Based on surveys of 169 tea consumers, this study found that there were significant differences in consumer preferences for tea-related applications based on age and tea drinking amount. The applications of 'tea places,' 'entertainment,' and 'tea timer' were preferred by the consumers of 20's and 'etiquette,' 'tea ceremony,' 'teaware,'and 'tea information recording' were favored by the consumers of 30's and older. The consumers with higher drinking amount showed higher preferences for tea etiquette related applications. There were no significant differences for tea-related applications based on gender and tea drinking duration. The result of the study is expected to contribute to the development of tea related applications with higher appeals to consumers as well as traditional Korean drinks.

  • The influence of information on other's preference on one's attitude formation can vary with consumer's uniqueness motive and product attributes. When high-CNFU individuals are given the information on the preference of others toward an experience attribute, the uniqueness aspect of their self-identity is aroused. As conforming to others' preference causes concern that their uniqueness-related self-esteem is threatened, they contrast away from the majority. On the other hand, they form their attitude toward search attributes regardless of the preference of others. In contrast, for low-CNFU individuals, knowing the majority's choice of experience attributes does not arouse the uniqueness aspect of their self-identity and not threaten their self-esteem. Thus, they tend to conform to the majority regardless of the type of product attributes. This study suggests whether or not the attribute signals the identity of a person as another criterion that distinguishes experience and search attributes. The results imply that when targeting a consumer with a strong desire for uniqueness, it would be more effective for a company to develop features that are not popular.

  • With the maturity of department stores and discount stores, many Korean retail companies have an interest in developing outlet shopping centers such as Yeoju Premium Outlet so on. To develop a successful outlet shopping center, developers should understand consumer's preferences on many attributes of development alternatives. This study analyzes consumer's preferences on outlet shopping center and evaluates various development alternatives by using conjoint analysis. With empirical research for outlet shopping center development, this study can elicit potential shopper's preference for outlet shopping center. The empirical result shows discount rate is most important attribute to develop outlet shopping center. The potential shoppers have higher preference for higher discount rate. Location is the second important attribute. Brand is the least important attribute. By using utilities derived from analysis, this study performs various choice simulations. Through choice simulation analysis, this study tries to find the best development alternative for new outlet shopping center.

  • Most new products not only suddenly disappear in the market but also quickly cannibalize older products. Under such a circumstance, retailers may have too much stock, and customers may be faced with difficulties discovering products suitable to their preferences among short life cycle products. To address these problems, recommender systems are good solutions. However, most previous recommender systems had difficulty in reflecting changes in customer preferences because the systems employ static customer preferences. In this paper, we propose a recommendation methodology that considers dynamic customer preferences. The proposed methodology consists of dynamic customer profile creation, neighborhood formation, and recommendation list generation. For the experiments, we employ a mobile image transaction dataset that has a short product life cycle. Our experimental results demonstrate that the proposed methodology has a higher quality of recommendation than a typical collaborative filtering-based system. From these results, we conclude that the proposed methodology is effective under conditions where most new products have short life cycles. The proposed methodology need to be verified in the physical environment at a future time.

  • In marketing, the thematic conceptual study related to hedonic consumption with product symbolism contributed to symbolic consumerism and its hedonic experience. Researching how consumers deal with expectations for unexpected income or windfall gains helps understand what makes them enjoy experiences. This paper discusses the trade-off relationship between hedonic and utilitarian consumption. it aims to determine when and why people choose hedonic (pleasant) or utilitarian (material) products under windfall gains. We suggested five hypotheses, and through a series of experiments, respondents preferred hedonic to utilitarian goods when lottery amounts increased and the probabilities did not discriminate between two products. the preference order was not discriminated in the hedonic, utilitarian goods. the shape of preference revealed an opposite direction (U vs. invert-U)when the winfall amounts increased. and when the discounting rates varied, the consumers' preference order was expected to change. Subjects selected hedonic goods the most, utilitarian goods second, and cash rewards were the last choice. Therefore, stimulating consumers' hedonism and promoting hedonic experiences might be effective marketing tactics and strategies.

  • This study investigated consumer convergence preferences for healthcare information service in social media using the multi-attribute utility theory. The multi-attribute utility theory is an approach for compositional modeling attributes wherein researchers compute the overall service utility by aggregating the evaluation results for attribute values. We found that healthcare information service consumers in social media evaluate the service preference through the multi attributes - Update, Cost, Usefulness, Usability, Reliability. And the study shows that individual preference by estimating weight of each attribute in the services influences the service use intention. So we believe that estimating preferences with multi-attribute utility theory will predict business success of the services in a new media, and for a successful business of the social media services marketers should assess the consumer's preference using the multi-attributes.

  • Consumers' awareness of product value, and their product preferences, are becoming increasingly influential in product development, particularly in corporations' efforts in manufacturing products with a competitive edge. Corporations conduct surveys on consumers' product satisfaction and preferences and conduct in-depth studies on consumer needs. They then manufacture products in accordance with the results of these surveys and studies. With the necessity and demand for digital door lock products recently growing, this research sought to explore product competitiveness reinforcement factors that could facilitate market penetration, and to formulate corresponding design strategies. In-depth consumer interviews were also conducted to identify consumer lifestyles and needs. Furthermore, consumer preference images, purchase and use-related patterns, and the status of door lock markets were studied. In the past, to design and manufacture consumer-oriented products, corporations primarily resorted to the improvement of the products' technological features. At present, the users' product preferences and the ways that they use these products are the factors that determine product design. Consumers today tend to adjust their lifestyles according to available products, and prefer products that have greater value in terms of lifestyle and culture. Strategic points for reinforcing competitiveness were presented in this study: first, offering different values that will enhance consumer satisfaction, second, positively developing bio-recognizable methods that will boost consumer preference, third, meeting the consumers' expectations that door lock products should not be mere 'entrance and exit control' systems, but network security systems and fourth, adopting convenient authentication methods backed by advanced technologies.
