  • The purpose of this study was to compare the test methods for predicting field emergence of Lotus corniculatus and Trifolium pratense. Four seed lots of two herbage legumes were controlled deteriorated, accelerated aged before germination test and conductivity of each seed lot was determined. Those germination percent and conductivity of seed lots were compared with actual field emergence rate. Field emergence rate could be estimated by the controlled deterioration test ($R^2$=0.687), by the accelerated aging test ($R^2$=0.260), and by the conductivity test ($R^2$=0.238). A multiple regression equation for predicting field emergence rate(equation omitted) was estimated as (equation omitted)=-198.16 + 2.3493X$_1$-1.5564X$_2$ + 1.9812X$_3$where X$_1$, percent germination of controlled deterioration test ; X$_2$, percent germination of accelerated aging test; and X$_3$, conductivity of solute leakage in the conductivity test. Conclusively, unless multiple tests are not available, the controlled deterioration test was comparatively high efficient for predicting field emergence rate, however, the combined measurements of those three tests can enhance the efficiency.

  • Many epidemiological studies investigate whether an association exists between a binary risk factor X and a binary response variable Y. They analyse whether an observed association between X and Y persists when the level of another factor Z that might influence the association is controlled. This involves testing conditional independence of X and Y controlling for Z. The Mantel-Haenszel test is most widely used to test conditional independence for sparse tables. But if the association between X and Y varies along the levels of Z, Mantel-Haenszel test has a low power problem. In this study, we propose an alternative test procedure which overcomes the low power problem in that case. We find out the null distribution of the alternative test statistic and compare its performance with the Mantel-Haenszel test by simulation.

  • Modified Pearson $X^2$ statistic is concerned. Moreover the four statistics(Pearson, Wald, modified sample design effects and reduction factor) are compared in one-stage sampling situation. In case of categorical of fit and independence tests for sample data above, it is shown that there is a significant behavior between Pearson $X^2$ and Wald statistic, but minor difference in modified statistics by simulation methods.

  • In this paper, we obtain maximum likelihood estimators for $P(X_{1}\;<\;X_{2})$ in the Marshall and Olkin's bivariate exponential model with bivariate censored data. The asymptotic normality of the estimator is derived. Also we propose approximate testing for $P(X_{1}\;<\;X_{2})$ based on the M.L.E. We compare the test powers under vsrious conditions through Monte Carlo simulation.

  • In order to estimate field seedling emergence and grain yield by the information collected from various laboratory seed vigor tests, each two malting and naked barley cultivar seeds were artificially aged according to the standard aging treatment suggested by the Association of Official Seed Analysts. The seed vigor tests adopted were warm- and cold-germination test, tetrazolium vigor test and electrocon. ductivity test. Field emergence of malting barley (Y) was estimated by Y=-2.962+0.229X$_1$ (% warm germination) -0.001X$_2$ (vigor of warm germination test: WGT) +0.354X$_3$ (vigor of cold germination test: CT) -0.558X$_4$ (% cold germination). The multiple correlation coefficient indicated that % warm germination. was contributed 64 % of the variation in seedling emergence rate of malting barley. The vigor of warm and cold germination tests, and % cold germination contributed additional 4, 7, and 9%, respectively, upon addition of the variables into regression. For naked barley, the regression equation of emergence rate was less efficient(R$^2$=54%) than that of malting barley(R$^2$=84%). A model to predict grain yield by the results of various seed vigor tests was not evaluated for both malting and naked barlev.

  • X-ray images are wildly used in medical applications, and these can be more efficiently find scoliosis which is appearing during the growth of human skeleton than others. This research is focused on the calibration of X-ray image and three-dimensional coordinate determination of objects. Three-dimensional coordinate of objects taken by X-ray are determined by two step procedure. Firstly, interior and exterior orientation parameters are determined by camera calibration using Primary Calibration Object (PCO) which has two sides with embedded radiopaque steel ball. Secondly, calibration cage coordinates which is composed of two acrylic sheets that are perpendicular to X-ray source are determined by the parameters. Three-dimensional coordinates of calibration cage determined by photogrammetric technique are compared with that of Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). Though the accuracy analysis, X direction which is parallel to X-ray source error values are relatively higher than those of Y and Z directions. But, the accuracies of Y and Z axis are approximately -3 mm to 3 mm. From the research results, it is considered that photogrammetric technique is applied to determine three-dimensional coordinates of patients or assist to make medical devices.

  • The evalution of the cumulative distridution function of the noncentral $X^2$ distribution required in approxi-mate determination of the $X^2$ test. Many approximations to the cumulative distribution function of the noncentral $X^2$ distribution have been suggested. However, in selecting an approximations both simplicity and accuracy should be considered. In this note we compared various approximations in terms of accuracy and efficiency.

  • To elucidate the dependability of seed variability determination by tetrazolium, 15 tree species were checked. For the comparison of potential germinability for these tree seeds, x-ray photography and routine germination test in a incubator were implemented. Though there were considerable differences of seed variability in percentage between germination test and tetrazolium test, the judgement by tetrazolium test and x-ray test gave similar results. These findings indicated that tetrazolium test is a reliable method if treated and inferred properly. Solution of 0.25 percent tetrazolium could give a complete colour reaction as well as 0.50 percent solution.

  • Although there exist numerous measures of association, most of them are lacking in generality in that they do not intend to measure the association between heterogeneous type of random variables. On the other hand, many statistical analyzes dealing with complex data sets require a very sophisticate measure of association. In this note, the p-value of independence tests is utilized to obtain a measure of association. The proposed measure of association have some consistency in measuring association between various types of random variables.
