Formation used as trackbed foundation for providing vertical bearing capacity onto rail foundation are composed of crushed stones usually with certain type of grain size distribution. Permanent deformation in trackbed foundation can be generated by increasing number of load repetition due to train traffic increases, causing track irregularity. In this study, a specially prepared trackbed foundation materials (M-40) used in Korea has been tested using a large repetitive triaxial compression apparatus in order to understand resilient and permanent deformation characteristics of the material. From these test results, resilient and permanent deformation characteristic are analyzed so that a permanent deformation model is developed which can consider number of load repetition N, confining stress (${\sigma}_3$), shear stress ratio(${\tau}/{\tau}_f$) and stiffness of the material.

In this paper, we analyze transmission characteristics of ultrashort laser pulses using the property of high-order pulses which are systematically obtained following their orders. The high-order pulses are easily derived from a modified PRS system model. But we make clear they are very useful to cover wider area and more accurate transmission characteristics of ultrashort pulses than Gaussian or Sech pulse approximations used conventionally. This may be based on the fact that the spectra and bandwidths of the high-order pulses are beautifully related to their orders. first modifying the generalized PRS system model, we propose a new model for deriving any type of high-order pulse. And we offer a novel analysis method of ultrashort pulse transmission which has any shape and FWHM, using the proposed model. In addition, by fixing the pulse range $\tau$=1(ps) and varying the order of the pulse from n:1 to n=100, we obtain spectra of ultrashort pulses with 1(ps)-150(fs) FWHM's, which are widely used in fiber communications. As a one-step further, we derive PSD's of their pulse trains when they are applied to Unipolar signaling scheme. These PSD's are decided in the range of possible pulse intervals. All of these results are not only coincided with some conventional experimental works but also will be applied to any pioneering ultrashort pulse in the future.

A combined convective heat transfer study for non-Newtonian fluids was experimentally performed in uniformly heated horizontal tubes with laminar flow in the thermal entry region. Velocity profiles were fully developed at the entrance of the heated sections in the tubes. Aqueous solutions of sodium carboxymethylcellulose(CMC ) were used; their behavior showed a reasonably good fit into the power-law model, .tau.=K.gamma.$^{n}$ . The test sections were made of copper with inside diameters of 3.23 cm and 5.042 cm and lengths of approximately 300 cm. Most experimental runs displayed noticeable secondary flows caused by buoyancy ; when present, secondary flows caused significant increase in the rate of heat transfer over the purely forced-convection case. A correlation, which relates the rate of heat transfer for flows with temperature-dependent properties, free convection effects, and non-newtonian effects, was suggested.

Objective: To improve the N biomarker in the amyloid/tau/neurodegeneration system by radiomics and study its value for predicting cognitive progression in individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Materials and Methods: A group of 147 healthy controls (HCs) (72 male; mean age ± standard deviation, 73.7 ± 6.3 years), 197 patients with MCI (114 male; 72.2 ± 7.1 years), and 128 patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) (74 male; 73.7 ± 8.4 years) were included. Optimal A, T, and N biomarkers for discriminating HC and AD were selected using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. A radiomics model containing comprehensive information of the whole cerebral cortex and deep nuclei was established to create a new N biomarker. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers were evaluated to determine the optimal A or T biomarkers. All MCI patients were followed up until AD conversion or for at least 60 months. The predictive value of A, T, and the radiomics-based N biomarker for cognitive progression of MCI to AD were analyzed using Kaplan-Meier estimates and the log-rank test. Results: The radiomics-based N biomarker showed an ROC curve area of 0.998 for discriminating between AD and HC. CSF Aβ42 and p-tau proteins were identified as the optimal A and T biomarkers, respectively. For MCI patients on the Alzheimer's continuum, isolated A+ was an indicator of cognitive stability, while abnormalities of T and N, separately or simultaneously, indicated a high risk of progression. For MCI patients with suspected non-Alzheimer's disease pathophysiology, isolated T+ indicated cognitive stability, while the appearance of the radiomics-based N+ indicated a high risk of progression to AD. Conclusion: We proposed a new radiomics-based improved N biomarker that could help identify patients with MCI who are at a higher risk for cognitive progression. In addition, we clarified the value of a single A/T/N biomarker for predicting the cognitive progression of MCI.

A macrocyclic ligand, N,N',N'-tribenzyl-2,11,20-triaza[3,3,3](2,6)pyridinophane (BAPP), was used to prepare an iron(II) complex as a nonheme model complex, $[(BAPP)Fe]^{+2}$ (1). X-ray crystallography of a colorless crystal of 1 revealed that BAPP acted as a pentadentate ligand due to geometrical strain for the formation of a six-coordinate iron(II) complex by BAPP. As a result, the iron center revealed a significantly distorted square pyramidal geometry similar to that found in the active site of taurine dioxygenase (tauD). In the reaction of 1 with PhIO, no intermediate was observed in the UV-visible region of spectrometer at low temperatures. Catalytic oxidations of triphenyl phosphine with PhIO at ${-40^{\circ}C}$ revealed that 1 was able to convert triphenyl phosphine to triphenyl phosphine oxide.23; SSOCHKThioanisole was also oxidized to the corresponding methylphenyl sulfoxide under the same conditions.
$^1$H-detected $^{15}$N NMR was employed to investigated the effect of mutation (Y14F) on the dynamic properties of catalytic residues in ${\Delta}^5$-3- ketosteroid isomerase (KSI) from Conamonas testosteroni. In particular, the backbone dynamics of the catalytic residues have been studied in free enzyme and its complex with a steroid ligand, 19-nortestosterone hemisuccinate, by $^{15}$N relaxation measurements. The relaxation data were analyzed using the model-free formalism to extract the model-free parameters (S$^2$, ${\tau}_e$, and R$_{ex}$). The results show that the mutation causes a significant decrease in the order parameter (S$^2$) for the catalytic residues of free Y14F KSI, presumably due to breakdown of the hydrogen bond network by mutation. In addition, the order parameters of Phe-14 and Asp-99 increased slightly upon ligand binding, indicating a slight restriction of the high-frequency (pico- to nanosecond) internal motions of the residues in the complexed Y14F KSI, while the order parameter of Tyr-55 decreased significantly upon ligand binding.

The three force components of shear spinning are calculated by a newly proposed deformation model. The spinning process is understooed as shearing deformation arter uniaxial yuelding by ending, and shear stress .tau.$\sub$rz/ becomes .kappa. the yueld limit in pure shear, in the deformation zone. The tangential forces are calculated and then the feed forces and normal foeces are obtained by assuming a nuiform distribution of roller pressure on the contact surface. An optimum contact area is obtaned by minimizing the bending energy required to obtain the assumed deformation mechanism. The calculated forces are compared with experimental data form published literature and present experiments. Good agreement cetween calculated and experimental values for working forces is obtained over a wide range of process variables.

Nonlinear behaviors such as steep-fronted wave motions and a finite amplitude limit cycle often accompanying combustion instabilities have been numerically investigated using a characteristic-based approximate Riemann solver and the well-known ${\eta}-{\tau}$ model. A resonant pipe initially subjected to a harmonic pressure disturbance described the natural steepening process that leads to a shocked N-wave. For a linearly unstable regime, pressure oscillations reach a limit cycle which is independent of the characteristics of the initial disturbances and depends only on combustion parameters and operating conditions. For the 1.5 MW gas generator under development in KARI, the numerical results show good agreement with experimental data from hot-firing tests.

An analytical model is proposed for an optically controlled Metal Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor (MESFET), known as Optical Field Effect Transistor (OPFET) considering the diffusion fabrication process. The electrical parameters such as threshold voltage, drain-source current, gate capacitances and switching response have been determined for the dark and various illuminated conditions. The Photovoltaic effect due to photogenerated carriers under illumination is shown to modulate the channel cross-section, which in turn significantly changes the threshold voltage, drainsource current, the gate capacitances and the device switching speed. The threshold voltage $V_T$ is reduced under optical illumination condition, which leads the device to change the device property from enhancement mode to depletion mode depending on photon impurity flux density. The resulting I-V characteristics show that the drain-source current IDS for different gate-source voltage $V_{gs}$ is significantly increased with optical illumination for photon flux densities of ${\Phi}=10^{15}\;and\;10^{17}/cm^2s$ compared to the dark condition. Further more, the drain-source current as a function of drain-source voltage $V_{DS}$ is evaluated to find the I-V characteristics for various pinch-off voltages $V_P$ for optimization of impurity flux density $Q_{Diff}$ by diffusion process. The resulting I-V characteristics also show that the diffusion process introduces less process-induced damage compared to ion implantation, which suffers from current reduction due to a large number of defects introduced by the ion implantation process. Further the results show significant increase in gate-source capacitance $C_{gs}$ and gate-drain capacitance $C_{gd}$ for optical illuminations, where the photo-induced voltage has a significant role on gate capacitances. The switching time ${\tau}$ of the OPFET device is computed for dark and illumination conditions. The switching time ${\tau}$ is greatly reduced by optical illumination and is also a function of device active layer thickness and corresponding impurity flux density $Q_{Diff}$. Thus it is shown that the diffusion process shows great potential for improvement of optoelectronic devices in quantum efficiency and other performance areas.
This study analyzes a relationship between Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) efficiency scores and a normalization index in order to examine the validity of DEA models. A normalization index concerned in this study is 'sales per R&D project fund' which is regarded as a crucial R&D project performance evaluation index in practice. For this correlation analysis, three distinct DEA models are selected such as DEA basic model, DEA/AR-I revised model(i.e. DEA basic model with Acceptance Region Type I constraints) and Super-Efficiency(SE) model. Especially, SE model is adopted where efficient R&D projects(i.e. Decision Making Units, DMU's) with DEA efficiency score of unity from DEA basic model can be further differentiated in ranks. Considering the non-normality and outliers, two rank correlation coefficients such as Spearman's ${\rho}_s$ and Kendall's ${\tau}_B$ are investigated in addition to Pearson's ${\gamma}$. With an up-to-date empirical massive dataset of n = 482 R&D projects associated with R&D Loan Program of Korea Information Communication Promotion Fund in the year of 2011, statistically significant (+) correlations are verified between the normalization index and every model's DEA efficiency scores with all three correlation coefficients. Especially, the congruence verified in this empirical analysis can be a useful reference for enhancing the practitioner's acceptability onto DEA efficiency scores as a real-world R&D project performance evaluation index.
