Genetic variation of two Juniperus chinensis var. sargentii populations in Mt. Seorak and Mt. Halla was investigated by isozyme analysis at reproducible 11 loci of 7 isozyme systems(Aat-1, Aat-2, Gdh, Idh, Lap, Mdh-1, Mdh-2, Mdh-3, 6Pgd, Pgi-1, and Pgi-2), of which 7 loci were polymorphic. The levels of genetic diversity of two populations were A=2.2, $A_e=1.61,\;P_{95}=54.5,\;H_{o}=0.179,\;H_e=0.287$(Mt. Seorak population) and A=2.1, $A_e=1.48,\;P_{95}=63.6,\;H_{o}=0.270,\;H_e=0.250$(Mt. Halla population), respectively. These values were similar to and/or somewhat higher than those observed in other Korean native conifers. Moderately low degree of genetic differentiation was observed between 2 analyzed populations ($F_{ST}=0.039$). Heterozygosity of the population in Mt. Seorak was significantly lower than expected, and much high level of inbreeding coefficient(F=0.376) was observed. Considering the limited population size and distribution range of the population, the population seemed to be influenced by inbreeding and/or random genetic drift, Consequently, Mt. Seorak population should be considered to be a more important candidate for the conservation of J. chinensis var. sargentii.

We studied the genetic impact of natural regeneration practices, such as Single seed tree, Group seed tree, Patch clear cutting and Alternate strip clear cutting systems, by comparing the nuclear microsatellite(nSSR) variation of post-practice natural regeneration one-year old seedlings of Pinus densiflora to that of pre-practice mature trees. The levels of genetic diversity of seedlings (A=13.6, $A_e$=4.3, $H_o$=0.571, $H_e$=0.597) were similar to those of mature trees (A=13.4, $A_e$=4.3, $H_o$=0.596, $H_e$=0.598) and the differences in the level of genetic diversity between seedlings and mature trees for each of the practices were not statistically significant. The degree of genetic differentiation between seedlings and mature trees was very low ($F_{ST}$=0.002) and the pairwise $F_{ST}$ values between seedlings and mature trees for all practices were less than 0.01. Overall, the natural regeneration practices appeared to have only minor impacts on the genetic diversity and the genetic composition in the studied P. densiflora stands. For a better understanding of the genetic effects of natural regeneration practices, subsequent studies such as temporal genetic variation of seedlings formed by crossing among post-practice mature trees should be considered.
To certify predictability for the times of phenological stages from cumulative air temperature in springtime, the first times of budding, leafing, flower budding, flowering and deflowering for 14 woody plants were monitored and air temperature was measured from 2005 to 2006 at Namsan. Year day index (YDI) and Nuttonson's Index (Tn) were calculated from daily mean air temperature. Of the 14 woody species, mean coefficient of variation was 0.04 in Robinia pseudo-acacia and 0.09 in Alnus hirsuta. However, mean coefficient of variation was 0.30 in Forsythia koreana and Stephanandra incisa and 0.32 in Zanthoxylum schinifolium. Therefore, the times of each phenological stage could be predicted in the former two species but not in latter three species by two indices. Of the five phenological stages, mean coefficient of variation was the smallest at deflowering time and the largest at budding time. In five phenological stages, mean coefficient of variation of YDI was in the range of $0.11{\sim}0.21$ but that of Tn was in the range of $0.15{\sim}0.26$. Therefore, the former was a better index than the latter. Of the species-phenological stage pair, coefficient of variation of YDI was 0.01 in Acer pseudo-sieboldianum - flower budding and below 0.05 in 11 pairs, whereas the YDIs over 0.40 were 4 pairs comprising of Prunus leveilleana - budding (0.51). Coefficient of variation of Tn was 0.01 in A. hirsuta - budding and below 0.05 in 8 pairs. The Tns over 0.40 were 5 pairs comprising of F. koreana - flower budding (0.66).
Ten days and monthly mean temperatures were analysed daily data observed during July, 1916 to March, 1970 statistically. Periodic characters were calculated by Δn, new method of approximate solution of Schuster Method. According to ten days mean temperatures, annual variation function is F($\theta_d$)=16.29-5.27 cos $\theta_d$+0.75 cos2 $\theta_d$-3.14 sin $\theta_d$+1.16 sin2 $\theta_d$-0.63 sin $\3{theta}_d$, where $\theta_d$=$-\frac{\pi}{18}$(d-3), d is the order of ten days period, 1 to 36. Annual mean water temperature is 16.3$^{\circ}C$, minimum in the last ten days of February 10.9$^{\circ}C$, maximum in the last ten days of August 24.5$^{\circ}C$. Periodic character of secular variation shows 11 year and its curve is F($\theta_y$)=16.29+0.53 cos $\theta_y$ -0.16cos $2{\theta}_y$+0.10 cos$3{\theta}_y$-0.10 sin $\theta_y$, where $\theta_y$=2$-\frac{2\pi}{11}$(y-1920), y is calendar year. And the relation between air temperature x and water temprature y is following. y=9.67 1.035$\^x$
This study was investigated genetic variation in 24 Taraxacum accessions from various regions in South Korea based on the sequences of two chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) regions (trnL-trnF and rps16-trnK). T. mongolicum, T. officinale, and T. laevigatum were triploid, and T. coreanum and T. coreanum var. flavescens were tetraploid. The trnL-trnF region in native Korean dandelions (T. mongolicum, T. coreanum, and T. coreanum var. flavescens) were ranged from 931 to 935 bp in length, and that of naturalized dandelions were ranged from 910 bp (T. officinale) to 975 bp (T. laevigatum) in length. The rps16-trnK region in T. mongolicum, T. coreanum, T. coreanum var. flavescens, T. officinale, and T. laevigatum was 882-883 bp, 875-881 bp, 878-883 bp, 874-876 bp, and 847-876 bp, respectively, in length. The sequence similarity matrix of the trnL-trnF region ranged from 0.860 to 1.00 with an average of 0.949, and that of the rps16-trnK region ranged from 0.919 to 1.000 with an average of 0.967. According to the phylogenetic analysis, the Korean native taxa and naturalized taxa were divided independent clade in two cpDNA region. T. coreanum var. flavescens clustered only with T. coreanum, and there were no significant differences in their nucleotide sequences. The finding that two accessions (T. coreanum; Jogesan, T. mongolicum; Gangyang) had a high level of genetic variation suggests their utility for breeding materials.

In automotive industries, one of major issues is the shifting shock, which is brought out when two clutches are engaged in an automatic transmission. The engagement and disengagement if two clutches means the variation of the D.O.F(degree of freedom) of system. Therefore to analyze the shifting performance, the variation of D.O.F should be considered in detail. Generally, the programs for analyzing the shifting transients have been developed as the problem-dependent codes because the artificial maris were usually used to indicate the change of shifting phase. To develop a software applicable to a general mechanism of transmissions, a self-determining algorithm of D.O.F must be applied. Through the experiences for the last several years, a generalized analysis software of shifting mechanism(so called by POTAS-MSM Version 2.0) has been developed. In this study, some major ideas of the software and the concept for the analysis of shifting characteristics are presented. In addition to that, this paper shows how to self -determine D.O.F of he multi-slipping systems using the stick-slip criterion on a single slipping mechanism. By using this software, the shifting characteristics of a vehicle are analyzed and compared with the experimental results.
It's not easy to produce very high tones during singing for not only untrained ordinary people but also even trained singers. To get high singing tones from the low tones, some trained singers used to use a distinguished singing technique, Passaggio (vocal register transition). The purpose of this study is to compare several voice parameters variation between when to sing with using the passaggio technique and to sing without using it. We selected 18 male singers (tenor 8, baritone 10), who had more than 7 years of experience and were well trained in passaggio technique. Simultaneous measurements of fundamental frequency (F0), mean flow rate (MFR), intensity (I), and subglottal pressure (Psub) were performed using the phonatory function analyzer (Nagashima). For the tenor, target tones /a/ were presented: 1) easy phonation: $B_{2}$, 2) high tone without passaggio: F$#_{3}$ 3) high tone with passaggio: F$#_{3}$. For the baritone, target tones /a/ were presented: 1) easy phonation: G$#_{3}$, 2) high tone without passaggio: D$#_{3}$, 3) high tone with passaggio: D$#_{3}$. F0 of the target tones between non-passaggio group and passaggio group was almost the same in both tenor and baritone groups. Intensity of the non-passaggio and passaggio vocalization was much louder than that of easy phonation and pasaggio was louder than non-passaggio vocalization (especially statistically significant in baritone singers). MFR of the passaggio vocalization was greater than non-passaggio vocalization in both tenor and baritone group, but statistically significant only in baritone. Psub of the passaggio vocalization was greater than that of the non-passaggio vocalization in both tenor and baritone group, but statistically not significant in tenor.
This paper describes the effect of ultrasonic frequency(f) on the atomization and deformation characteristics of single water droplet in an acoustic levitation field. To achieve this, the ultrasonic levitator that can control sound pressure and velocity amplitude by changing frequency was installed, and visualization of single water droplet was conducted with high resolution ICCD and CCD camera. At the same time, atomization and deformation characteristics of single water droplet was studied in terms of normalized droplet diameter($d/d_0$), droplet diameter(d) variation and droplet volume(V) variation under different ultrasonic frequency(f) conditions. It was revealed that increase of ultrasonic frequency reduces the droplet diameter. Therefore, it is able to levitate with low sound pressure level. It also induces the wide oscillation range, large diameter and volume variation of water droplet. In conclusion, the increase of ultrasonic frequency(f) can enhance the atomization performance of single water droplet.

This paper presents a mathematical model derived from the upper-bound theorem of concrete plasticity to rationally evaluate the shear friction strength of concrete interfaces with a construction joint. The upper limit of the shear friction strength was formulated from the limit state of concrete crushing failure on the strut-and-tie action along the construction joints to avoid overestimating the shear transfer capacity of a transverse reinforcement with a high clamping force. The present model approach proposed that the cohesion and coefficient of friction of concrete can be set to be $0.27(f_{ck})^{0.65}$ and 0.95, respectively, for rough construction joints and $0.11(f_{ck})^{0.65}$ and 0.64, respectively, for smooth ones, where $f_{ck}$ is the compressive strength of concrete. From the comparisons with 155 data compiled from the available literature, the proposed model gave lower values of standard deviation and coefficient of variation of the ratios between predictions and experiments than AASHTO and fib 2010 equations, indicating that the proposed model has consistent trends with test results, unlike the significant underestimation results of such code equations in evaluating the shear friction strength.
Using starch gel electrophoresis, ten isozyme loci were examined in nine populations of Euphorbia ebracteolata in Korea. Populations of E. ebracteolata tend to have higher within-population levels of genetic variation (A = 2.2, P = 61.1, He = 0.165) along with low levels of genetic differentiation ($F_{ST}$ = 0.075) compared to previously reported Euphorbia species. The relatively high genetic variation in E. ebracteolata may be due to its long-lived regional distribution and to the outcrossed nature of the species. Low levels of genetic differentiation and the absence of unique alleles in E. ebracteolata populations suggest that Korean populations diverged recently. This study does not support the recognition of var. coreana and for. magna as separate taxa, and suggests that they should be combined with E. ebracteolata.
