Metals in Coastal Sediments Adjacent to the Youngkwang Nuclear Power Plant, West Coast of Korea

  • Coastal sediments collected near the Youngkwang Nuclear Power Plant were analysed for major(Al$_2$O$^_3$, Fe$^_2$O$^_3$, MgO, CaO, Na$^_2$O, K$^_2$O, TiO$^_2$, MnO), trace (Ba, Sr, V, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Zn, Pb) metal, and P$^_2$O$^_5$ contents. The composition of bulk metals from most stations fits within the range as those in the average crustal and sedimentary rocks, suggesting that the anthropogenic perturbation of these components is insignificant. The abundance and distribution of total contents for the majority of metals in the surface sediment could be explained by the grain size and were associated with mud (<63 ${\mu}$m) contents. However, distributions of Ca, K, Sr and Ba did not have any significant association with the sediment grain size. This may be due to the geochemical coherence among these metals in certain minerals abundant in coarse grained fractions. The distribution of Pb appears to be partly affected by the contribution from aerosol fallout. Using the R'-mode factor analysis, we show that the variance of the metal contents could be explained by four factors which account for 93.7% of the total variance. It appears that texturally controlled and/or sorting factors influenced by fine fraction are the most dominant factors which determine the relative abundance and distribution of metals in the study area.

몽골산 크롬철광 중의 금속성분 분석 (Determination of Metal Elements in Mongolian Chromite)

  • 유도결합 플라스마 원자방출분광법(ICP-AES)을 이용하여 몽골산 크롬철광의 성분을 분석하였다. 크롬철광을 용해시키기 위하여 과염소산-인산의 흔합산과 융제로서 $Na_2O_2$의 적용성을 검토한 결과 최적의 용해방법은 용융법이었다. 크롬광의 주성분과 미량성분을 ICP-AES로 정량할 때 과량의 Na가 측정파장에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. Al, Cr, Fe 및 Mg과 같은 주성분원소의 경우 Na가 250 mg/L까지 영향을 받지 않았으나, Co, Ni, Ti, V 및 Zn과 같은 미량성분들은 Na가 1,250 mg/L인 경우 측정원소와 파장에 따라 방출선의 세기는 1-5% 정도 감소하였다. 본 방법의 정확도를 확인하기 위하여 중성자방사화분석으로 얻은 결과와 상대편차를 비교하였다. $Al_2O_3$, $Cr_2O_3$, FeO 및 MgO의 경우에는 FeO를 제외하고 상대편차가 5% 이내이며, Co, Mn, V 및 Zn의 경우에는 ~20-8% 범위였다.

$SiO_2$ 함량에 따른 $BaTiO_3$계 써미스터의 PTC 특성 변화 (Effects of Si doping on PTC Properties in $BaTiO_3$ thermistor sintered in reduced atmosphere and reoxididation)

  • $BaTiO_3$를 기본조성으로 하는 PTC 써미스터는 Curie 온도이상에서 저항이 급격히 상승하는 반도성 전자세라믹스로서 degaussing 소자, 정온 발열체, 온도센서, 전류 제한 소자 등 상업적으로 폭넓게 사용되고 있다. 본 소자는 소결온도, 소결 및 열처리 분위기, 불순물, 첨가제 등의 제조공정상의 인자들과 기공률, 결정립 크기 등이 복합적으로 작용하여 PTCR 특성이 크게 영향을 받기 때문에 제조하기에 무척 까다로운 소자로 알려져 있다. 특히 과전류 보호 소자용으로 사용하기 위해서는 상온 비저항을 크게 낮추어야 하며 이에 대한 연구가 계속 진행되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 SiO2을 0.5~10 at%로 달리한 조성으로 환원 분위기에서 소결하고 공기 중에서 재산화 처리하여 재료의 PTC 특성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 분석하였다. 소정의 조성을 선택하여 $1180^{\circ}C{\sim}1240^{\circ}C$에서 2시간 동안 환원분위기에서 소결하고, $800^{\circ}C$에서 1 시간 공기 중에서 재산화 처리한 후 R-T 특성을 측정하여 SiO2 함량에 따른 PTC 특성을 분석하였다. 그 결과 SiO2의 함량이 증가할수록 상온 저항은 낮아지다가 3.0 at% 이상으로 첨가할 경우 급격히 상승하는 경향을 나타내었다. 특히 SiO2를 1.0~3.0 at% 일 때 우수한 PTC 특성을 가졌다. $1180^{\circ}C$에서는 소결 밀도가 낮아 상온 비저항이 크게 높았지만, $1200^{\circ}C{\sim}1220^{\circ}C$에서는 정상 입성장이 나타나면서 일반적인 PTC 특성을 가졌지만, $1240^{\circ}C$ 이상에서는 공정 액상이 형성되어 비정상 입성장이 일어나 상온 비저항이 크게 낮아졌다. 한편 점핑비-log(Rmax/Rmin)는 SiO2 함량이 증가할수록 높아지다가 3.0 at% 이상에서는 낮아짐을 확인하였다.

Electric Field-Induced Phase Transition Behavior in Tetragonal Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 Single Crystals

  • Electric field-induced phase transition from the tetragonal to rhombohedral phase was investigated for the <111> direction in tetragonal PZN-PT single crystals, which have spontaneous polarization along the <001> direction. From the strain and dielectric data, it was confirmed that the samples followed a tetragonal-orthorhombic-rhombohedral phase transition sequence with application of an electric field. This transition is different from the rhombohedral-tetragonal phase transition of <001> rhombohedral composition single crystals, in which a phase transition occurred without showing the intermediate orthorhombic phase.

  • In this paper, xPb(Zn$\_$1/3/Nb$\_$2/3/)O$_3$-yPbTiO$_3$-zPbZrO$_3$-zPbZrO$_3$ (0.5wt%)MnO$_2$ ceramics were fabricated by the mixed oxide method sintered at 1250$^{\circ}C$ for 2[hrs] and then the dielectric and pyroelectric properties were investigated. In 0.10PZN-0.45PT-0.47PZ sample, dielectric constant was 829 and in the case of 01.5PZN-0.45PT-0.40PZ sample, pyroelectric current and pyroelectric coefficient were 0.95 x 10$\^$-7/ [A] and 7.6 x 10$\^$-1/ [C/$\textrm{cm}^2$$.$$^{\circ}C$]. Figure of merits of pyroelectric current and voltage and detectivity, in same sample, has shown good properties, that were 2.4 x 10$\^$-8/[C$.$cm/J], 5.5 x 10$\^$-11/[C$.$cm/J], 1.6 x 10$\^$-8/ [C$.$cm/J].

삼광 금-은광산 일대의 하상퇴적물과 토양내 함유된 독성원소의 지구화학적 부화와 이동 (Geochemical Enrichment and Migration of Environmental Toxic Elements in Stream Sediments and Soils from the Samkwang Au-Ag Mine Area, Korea)

  • Dispersion, migration and enrichment of environmental toxic elements from the Samkwang Au-Ag mine area were investigated based upon major, minor and rare earth element geochemistry. The Samkwang mine area composed mainly of Precambrian granitic gneiss. The mine had been mined for gold and silver, but closed in 1996. According to the X-ray powder diffraction, mineral composition of stream sediments and soils were partly variable mineralogy, which are composed of quartz, orthoclase, plagioclase, amphibole, muscovite, biotite and chlorite, respectively. Major element variations of the host granitic gneiss, stream sediments and soils of mining and non-mining drainage, indicate that those compositions are decrese $Al_2O_3$, $Fe_2O_3$, MgO, $TiO_2$, $P_2O_5$ and LOI with increasing $SiO_2$ respectively. Average compositional ranges (ppm) of minor and/or environmental toxic elements within those samples are revealed as As=<2-4500, Cd=<1-24, Cu=6-117, Sb=1-29, Pb=17-1377 and Zn=32-938, which are extremely high concentrations of sediments from the mining drainage (As=2006, Cd=l1, Cu=71, Pb=587 and Zn=481 ppm, respectively) than concentrations of the other samples and host granitic gneiss. Major elements (average enrichment index=6.53) in all samples are mostly enriched, excepting $SiO_2$, $Na_2O$ and $K_2O$, normalized by composition of host granitic gneiss. Rare earth element (average enrichment index=2.34) are enriched with the sediments from the mining drainage. Minor and/or environmental toxic elements within all samples on the basis of host rock were strongly enriched of all elements (especially As, Br, Cu, Pb and Zn), excepting Ba, Cr, Rb and Sr. Average enrichment index of trace elements in all samples is 15.55 (sediments of mining drainage=37.33). Potentially toxic elements (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn) of the samples revealed that average enrichment index is 46.10 (sediments of mining drainage=80.20, sediments of nonmining drainage=5.35, sediments of confluent drainage=20.22, subsurface soils of mining drainage=7.97 and subsurface soils of non-mining drainage=4.15). Sediments and soils of highly concentrated toxic elements are contained some pyrite, arsenopyrite, sphalerite, galena and goethite.

연료가스의 고온 탈황에 사용된 Zinc Titanate의 재생 (Regeneration of Zinc Titanate Used for High Temperature Desulfurization of Fuel Gases)

  • Zinc titanate 탈황제를 제조하여 연료가스의 고온탈황에 사용된 탈황제의 재생에 대해서 연구하였다. 준비된 탈황제의 Zn/Ti 몰비는 1.5이고 반응기는 내경 1 cm와 3 cm의 석영관 고정층반응기들을 사용하였다. 고온에서 zinc titanate 탈황제의 재생은 발열반응을 수반하여 탈황제의 물성을 저하시킨다. 따라서 zinc titanate 탈황제의 가장 적합한 재생조건을 선정하기 위해서 반응온도, 산소함량, 유량변화, steam 함량 등을 변화시키면서 재생반응을 실험하였다. 탈황-재생의 실험동안 H2S와 SO2의 파과곡선을 구하였다. 또한 반응실험 전후의 탈황제의 물성을 SEM, XRD, Hg-porosimetry 및 BET로 분석하였다. 이런 결과들로부터 zinc titanate 탈황제에 가장 적합한 재생조건은 $650^{\circ}C$, O2 함? 5%, steam 함량 10% 이상이라는 결론을 얻었다.

Characterization and Potent Application of Pleurotus floridanus Trypsin Inhibitor (PfTI)

  • Characterization and in vitro inhibition studies of protease inhibitor from the mushroom Pleurotus floridanus (PfTI) towards the pest Papilio demoleus is studied. The addition of 1 mM Mn2+, Na2+, Ba2+ and Ni 2+ enhanced the PfTI activity. The ICP-atomic emission spectrum showed the presence of Ca2+, Mg2+ and Zn2+ in the PfTI. Surfactants SDS and CTAB at a concentration of 1% reduced the PfTI activity whereas, the nonionic detergents Triton X and Tween 80 increased the activity. The inhibitory activity gradually decreased with increase in concentration of DMSO and H2O2. The activity was increased by dithiothreitol up to a concentration of 80 μM and inactivated at 140 μM. The activity of PMSF modified PfTI was drastically reduced to 0.234 U/mL at 4 mM concentration and similar results were obtained for modification of cysteine by N-Ethylmaleimide at slightly higher concentrations. The complex of trypsin and PfTI showed complete loss in fluorescence intensity at 343 nm compared with control. In vitro inhibition studies of PfTI with midgut proteases isolated from citrus pest P. demoleus with protease activity of 1.236 U was decreased to 0.613 U by 50 μL (0.1 mg/mL) of the inhibitor. Inhibitor was stable up to 0.04 M concentration of HCl.

  • In this paper, the Flexible information display was implemented uing AC powder electroluminescent device. ZnS:Cu and $BaTiO_3$ were used as a phosphor and dielectric respectively. The growth of phosphor and dielectric layer was performed with screen printing. The flexible information display in this paper was categorized as following; EL display, driving circuit, software for driving. EL spectrum and brightness was measured as the device properties.

  • Among many problems that need to be solved in the process of preparing multilayer chip LC filters, we studied the control of shrinkage in order to prevent the crack, warpage, and/or delamination which occurs at the interface between the inductance (L part) and the capacitance (C part). Shrinkage was controlled by compositions, powder size, calcining temperature and amount of organic binder. Capacitance sheet was prepared by mixing 65 wt% binder with the composition of 96 wt% TiO2 having an average particle size of 0.5 $\mu\textrm{m}$, 3 wt% CuO. After small amount of MnO2 and SiO2 added, it was calcined at 750$^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr. Inductance sheet was prepared by mixing 60 wt% binder with the composition of 49.5% mol% Fe2O3, 20.5 mol% ZnO, 20 mol% NiO and 10 mol% CuO which was calcined at 775$^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr. These sheets was laminated at 250 kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, and cofired at 900$^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr to give rise to a multilayer chip LC filter without any warpage.
