Motukoreaite and Quintinite-3T from Sinyangri Formation, Jeju Island, Korea (제주도 신양리층에서 산출하는 Motukoreaite와 Quintinite)

  • Motukoreaite and quintinite-3T, Mg-Al layered double hydroxides, were found in the Sinyangri Formation of Jeju Island. They fill the pores of basaltic volcaniclastic sediments in globular and botryoidal aggregates of fine platy particles. Globular aggregates of quintinite-3T were crusted with the parallel overgrowth of motukoreaite plates. X-ray diffraction data and chemical composition are consistent with those reported in literature, while the Mg/Al ratio of motukoreaite is higher. Structural formula of motukoreaite and quintinite-3T derived from electron microprobe analysis are $Na_{1.6}Ca_{0.1}Mg_{40.7}Al_{20.7}Si_{0.9}(CO_3)_{13.6}(SO_4)_{7.4}(OH)_{108}56H_2O$, and $Mg_{3.7}Al_{1.9}Si_{0.2}(OH)_{12}(CO_3)_{0.8}(SO_4)_{0.2}3H_2O$, respectively. Motukoreaite and quintinite-3T were formed by reaction between seawater and basaltic glass, and contributed to the cementation and lithification of the volcaniclastic sediments.

Preparation and Electrical Conductivity of CuO-Bi2O3-V2O5 Glass for Solid State Batteries

  • The crystallization behavior and electrical conductivity of the $CuO-Bi_2O_3-V_2O_5$ glasses with various CuO content were investigated. The glass formation regin was 0~20 mol% Bi2O3, 5~55 mol% CuO, and 30~90 mol% $V_2O_5$ with Tg=$275^{\circ}C$~$290^{\circ}C$. Among glasses with various compositions, the 31CuO-$14Bi_2O_3-55V_2O_5$ (mol%) glass heat-treated at $358^{\circ}C$ for 8 h showed the highest conductivity of ~ at room temperature. The heat-treated glasses increased in electrical conductivity by the order of 104 compared to non heat-treated glass. The linear relationship between 1n($\sigma$T)and $T^{-1}$ indicated that electrical conduction in the 31CuO-$14Bi_2O_3-55V_2O_5$ (mol%) glass occurred by a small polaron hopping.

Heterostructured Nanophotocatalysts for Degradation of Organophosphate Pesticides from Aqueous Streams

  • The present paper focuses on the synthesis, characterization and application of nanophotocatalyst for degradation of quinalphos and monocrotophos. Novel heterostructured ZnO/$TiO_2$ photocatalyst ($Z_9T$) was prepared and characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), SEM and UV-vis diffuses reflectance spectroscopy. The average crystalline size of synthesized $Z_9T$ was found to be 21.48 nm. The pesticides were degraded in the presence of nanophotocatalysts i.e., $TiO_2$, ZnO, $TiO_2$/ZnO mixed in various proportions and heterostructured nanophotocatalyst synthesized by Sol-Gel method. The batch experiments were performed by adding photocatalyst to 100 ml of pesticide solution and suspension was subjected to irradiation under UV light. In case of mixed catalyst, the maximum degradation of monocrotophos and quinalphos has been observed when ZnO and $TiO_2$ were in the ratio of 7:3 and 8:2 respectively. The degradation efficiency with synthesized heterostructured nanophotocatalyst ($Z_9T$) was found to be comparable with $TiO_2$.

Synthesis and Crystal Chemistry of New Actinide Pyrochlores (새로운 파이로클로어의 합성 및 결정화학적 특징)

  • New pyrochlore-type phases($A_2$$B_2$$O_{7}$) were synthesized in the systems: CaO-C$eO_2$-T$iO_2$, CaO-$UO_2$(T$hO_2$)-Z$rO_2$, CaO-$UO_2$(T$hO_2$)-$Gd_2$$O_3$-T$iO_2$-Z$rO_2$, 및 CaO-T$hO_2$-S$nO_2$. The starting materials were pressed with the pressure of 200~400 MPa and sintered at 1500~ 155$0^{\circ}C$ for 4~8 hours in air and at 1300~ 135$0^{\circ}C$ for 5 ~50 hours under oxygen atmosphere. The products were characterized using XRD, SEM/EDS and TEM. In the bulk compositions of CaCe$Ti_2$$O_{7}$, CaTh$Zr_2$$O_{7}$,($Ca_{0.5}$ Gd$Th_{0.5}$)(ZrTi)$O_{7}$) ($Ca_{0.5}$Gd$Th_{0.5}$)(ZrTi)$O_{7}$, ($Ca_{0.5}$G$dU_{0.5}$)(ZrTi)$O_{7}$ and CaTh$Sn_2$$O_{7}$ , pyrochlore was the major phase, together with other oxide phase $of_2$$O_{7}$ fluorite structure. In the samples with target compositions CaU$Zr_2$$O_2$$Ca_{0.5}$ G$dU_{0.5}$)$Zr_2$T$iO_{7}$ pyrochlore was not identified, but a fluorite-structured phase was detected. The formation factor as the stable phase depended on crystal chemical characteristics of the actinide and lanthanide elements of the system concerned.

Dielectric and Piezoelectric Characteristics of PSS-PZT Piezoelectric Ceramics with CrS12TOS13t Addition (Cr2O3 첨가에 따른 PSS-PZT 압전 세라믹스의 유전 및 압전 특성)

  • To improve dielectric, piezoelectric and temperature stability in 0.50Pb(SnS11/2TSbS11/2T)OS13T - 0.35PbTiOS13T - 0.60PbZrOS13T + 0.4[wt%]MnOS12T piezoelectric ceramics which is used for surface acoustic wave devices, CrS12TOS13T was added and the specimens were fabricated by Hot Press method, and their characteristics were measured with CrS12TOS13T addition. From the results, in the specimen added by 0.2[wt%]CrS12TOS13T, dielectric constant and mechanical quality factor were 380 and 2307, respectively, and it was suited for surface acoustic wave device and the temperature coefficient of the resonant frequency in the specimen added by 0.4[wt%]CrS12TOS13T was the least value of 74.96[ppm/$^{\circ}C$].

Antioxidant Activity and Differentiation Effect of Taraxacum mongolicum Extracts against Hydrogen Peroxide-induced Oxidative Damage of MC3T3-E1 Osteoblast Cells (민들레 추출물의 항산화 활성 및 H2O2로 산화적 스트레스를 유도한 조골세포의 활성과 분화에 미치는 영향)

  • The correlation between osteoporosis and reactive oxygen species (ROS)-induced oxidative stress was investigated. Thus, interest in food and plants with antioxidant effects that can reduce damage caused by ROS during bone metabolism is heightening. In this study, the antioxidant effect of Taraxacum mongolicum on proliferation and differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells under H2O2-induced oxidative stress was studied to investigate its protective effect against oxidative stress and its availability as an antioxidant material related to bone diseases. As a result, total polyphenol and total flavonoid contents of T. mongolicum were 33.65 mg/g and 4.45 mg/g, respectively. The T. mongolicum extract increased proliferation of both MC3T3-E1 cells and differentiated osteoblasts under $H_2O_2$-induced oxidative stress conditions. In addition, two differentiation markers, alkaline phosphatase activity and mineralization level in the T. mongolicum extract, tended to increase. These results indicate that T. mongolicum extract suppressed the damage to osteoblasts under oxidative stress and that it is potential antioxidant materials for preventing bone diseases.

Changes in the Structural and Electrical Properties of Ti3C2Tx MXene Depending on Heat Treatment (Ti3C2Tx MXene의 열처리에 따른 구조적, 전기적 특성 변화)

  • Ti3C2Tx MXene, which is a representative of the two-dimensional MXene family, is attracting considerable attention due to its remarkable physicochemical and mechanical properties. Despite its strengths, however, it is known to be vulnerable to oxidation. Many researchers have investigated the oxidation behaviors of the material, but most researches were conducted at high temperatures above 500 ℃ in an oxidation-retarding environment. In this research, we studied changes in the structural and electrical properties of Ti3C2Tx MXene induced by low-temperature heat treatments in ambient conditions. It was found that a number of TiO2 particles were formed on the MXene surface when it was mildly heated to 200 ℃. Heating the material to higher temperatures, up to 400 ℃, the phase transformation of Ti3C2Tx MXene to TiO2 was accelerated, resulting in a TiO2/Ti3C2Tx hybrid. Consequently, the metallic nature of pure Ti3C2Tx MXene was transformed to semiconductive behavior upon heat-treating at ≥ 200 ℃. The results of this research clearly demonstrate that Ti3C2Tx MXene may be easily oxidized even at low temperatures once it is exposed to air.

High-Temperature Degradation of Hot-Pressed $t-ZrO_2$ Co-doped with $Y_2O_3$ and $Nb_2O_5$ (Hot-press법으로 제조된 $Y_2O_3$$Nb_2O_5$가 첨가된 정방정 ZrO2의 고온열화)

  • Tetragonal ZrO2 polycrystal (TZP), consisted of 90.24 mol% ZrO2-5.31 mol% Y2O3-4.45 mol% Nb2O5, were prepared using hot-press and mechanical properties and high-temperature degradation were investigated. The specimen, hot-pressed for 1 h at 140$0^{\circ}C$ in Ar atmosphere, exhibited flexural strength of 1010 MPa and fracture toughness of 7.5 MPam1/2 and experienced no low-temperature degradation below 40$0^{\circ}C$. However, as aged for 100h at temperatures higher than 40$0^{\circ}C$, TZP was suffered by high-temperature degradation due to an extensive cavitation caused by the oxidation of carbon. XPS observation revealed that the carbon incorporated in TZPs during hot-pressing exists as either an ether-type CO or a carbonyl-type C=O. Despite of the high-temperature degradation of t-ZrO2 co-doped with Y2O3 and Nb2O5, its flexural strength and fracture toughness were superior to those of the commercial 3 mol% Y2O3-TZP hot-pressed under the identical condition as determined before and after the aging treatments.

  • PTC Thermistors specimens were fabricated by added $MnO_2$ as donors, and $Nb_2O_5$ as acceptors and sintered $1250^{\circ}C$/2hrs. Average grain size decreased with increased in added $MnO_2$, and increased with added in $Nb_2O_5$. But, appeared liquid phase as $Bi_2O_3$ and $TiO_2$, affect to grain growth. XRD result, peak strength waslowed then crystallization not well, but, secondary phase were not showed all specimens. All specimens resistance were so high, about $40M\Omega$ over, couldn't measured to those resistance and doesn't appear PTCR effect.

A Facile Synthesis of Disacharides Containing $\alpha$ -Altropyranosidic Linkage by 1, 2-trans Glycosidation of D-allal Derivatives (D-알알 유도체의 1, 2-trans 글리코시드 형성 반응을 이용한 $\alpha$ -알트로피라노시드 결합을 갖는 이당류의 효과적 합성법의 개발)

  • It's necessary to develope a facile methodology forming ${\alpha}$-altropyranosidic linkage, for the synthesis of trisaccharide repeating unit of O-antigenic part of Campylobacter jejuni gram negative bacteria. In this paper, the effective synthesis of disaccharides containing ${\alpha}$-altropyranosidic linkage by 1,2-trans glycosidation of allal derivatives was discussed. 4, 6-O-Benzylidene-3-O-(t-butyldimethylsilyl)-D-allal was treated with DMDO (3,3-dimethy ldioxirane) to yield 1,2-anhydro-4, 6-O-benzylidene-3-O-(t-butyldimethylsilyl)-${\beta}$-D-altropyranose. The reaction of 1,2-anhydro-4, 6-O-benzylidene-3-O-(t-butyldimethylsilyl)-${\beta}$-D-altropyranose with allyl alcohol gave allyl 4, 6-O-benzylidene-3-(t-butyldimethylsilyl)-${\alpha}$-D-altropyranoside quantitatively, and reactions with glucals were also successful to prepare ${\alpha}$-altropyranosodic disaccharides. It is convinced that 1,2-trans glycosidation of allal derivatives should be an attractive choice for preparing oligosaccharides containing ${\alpha}$-altropyranosidic linkages.
