$SnO_2$-mixed and Sn-doped $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were synthesized via a hydrothermal process. $SnO_2$-mixed $TiO_2$ nanoparticles prepared in a neutral condition consisted of anatase $TiO_2$ nanoparticles(diamond shape, ~25 nm) and cassiterite $SnO_2$ nanoparticles(spherical shape, ~10 nm). On the other hand, Sn-doped $TiO_2$ nanoparticles obtained under a high acidic condition showed a crystalline phase corresponding to rutile $TiO_2$. As the Sn content increased, the particle shape changed from rod-like(d~40 nm, 1~200 nm) to spherical(18 nm) with a decrease in the particle size. The peak shift in the XRD results and a change of the c-axis lattice parameter with the Sn content demonstrate that the $TiO_2$ in the rutile phase was doped with Sn. The photocatalytic activity of the $SnO_2$-mixed $TiO_2$ nanoparticles dramatically increased and then decreased when the $SnO_2$ content exceeded 4%. The increased photocatalytic activity is mainly attributed to the improved charge separation of the $TiO_2$ nanoparticles with the $SnO_2$. In the case of Sn-doped $TiO_2$ nanoparticles, the photocatalytic activity increased slightly with the Sn content due most likely to the larger energy bandgap caused by Sn-doping and the decrease in the particle size. The $SnO_2$-mixed $TiO_2$ nanoparticles generally exhibited higher photocatalytic activity than the Sn-doped $TiO_2$ nanoparticles. This was caused by the phase difference of $TiO_2$.
The $SnO_2$, Sn-doped $In_2O+3\; and \;Ce-doped\; TiO_2$ films have been prepared by RF sputtering method, and their opto-electrochemical properties were investigated in view of the applicability as counter electrodes in the electrochromic window system. These oxide films could reversibly intercalate $Li^+$ ions owing to the nanocrystalline texture, but remained colorless and transparent. The high transmittance of the lithiated films could be attributed to the prevalence of the $Sn^{4+}/Sn^{2+}\; and\; Ce^{4+}/Ce^{3+}$ redox couples having 5s and 6s character conduction bands, respectively. For the Ce-doped $TiO_2$ film, $(TiO_2)_{1-x}(CeO_2)_x$, an optimized electrochemical reversibility was found in the film with the composition of x = 0.1.
[ $SnO_2$ ]-doped $TiO_2$ thin films were prepared from tin (IV) bis (acetylacetonate) dichloride and titanium diisopropoxide bis (acetylacetonate) with pluronic P123 or degussa P25 as a structural-directing agent. These hydrolyzed sol were spin coated onto Si(100) wafer substrate. The microstructure, morphology and bonding states of thin films were studied by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The photocatalytic activity of these films was investigated by using indigo carmine solution.
$SnO_2$-doped $TiO_2$ powder was obtained from tin (IV) bis(acetylacetonate) dichloride and titanium diisopropoxide bis(acetylacetonate) with quinacridone as the dye sensitizer molecule. The structural changes of the reaction mixture were monitored by fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The morphology and microstructure of gel powder were studied by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and X-ray diffractometry (XRD). The photocatalytic activity of these powders with the anatase structure was investigated by using indigo carmine solution as a test dye

An electronic nose system is an instrument designed far mimicking human olfactory system. It consists generally of gas (odor) sensor array corresponding to olfactory receptors of human nose and artificial neural network pattern recognition technique based on human biological odor sensing mechanism. Considerable attempts to develop the electronic nose system have been made far applications in the fields of floods, drinks, cosmetics, environment monitoring, etc. A portable electronic nose system has been fabricated by using oxide semiconductor gas sensor array and pattern recognition technique such as principal component analysis (PCA) and back propagation artificial neural network The sensor array consists of six thick film gas sensors whose sensing layers are Pd-doped WO$_3$ Pt-doped SnO$_2$ TiO$_2$-Sb$_2$O$_3$-Pd-doped SnO$_2$ TiO$_2$-Sb$_2$O$_{5}$-Pd-doped SnO$_2$+Pd filter layer, A1$_2$O$_3$-doped ZnO and PdCl$_2$-doped SnO$_2$. As an application the system has been used to identify CO/HC car exhausting gases and the identification has been successfully demonstrated.d.
$SnO_{2}$-doped anatase type $TiO_{2}$ powder was prepared by the polymerization complex route from tin(IV) bis (acetylacetonate) dichloride, titanium diisopropoxide bis (acetylacetonate) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) as a complexing agent. The structural changes of reaction mixture were monitored by fourier transform infarared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The microstructure and morphology of gel powder were studied by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and X-ray diffractometry (XRD). The photocatalytic activity of these powders with the anatase structure was investigated by using indigo carmine solution.
A portable electronic nose system has been fabricated and characterized using an oxide semiconductor gas sensor array and pattern recognition techniques such as principal component analysis and back-propagation artificial neural network. The sensor array consists of six thick-film gas sensors whose sensing layers are Pd-doped $WO_{3}$, Pt-doped $SnO_{2}$, $TiO_{2}-Sb_{2}O_{5}-Pd$-doped $SnO_{2}$, $TiO_{2}-Sb_{2}O_{5}-Pd$-doped $SnO_{2}$ + Pd coated layer, $Al_{2}O_{3}$-doped ZnO and $PdCl_{2}$-doped $SnO_{2}$. The portable electronic nose system consists of an 16bit Intel 80c196kc as CPU, an EPROM for storing system main program, an EEPROM for containing optimized connection weights of artificial neural network, an LCD for displaying gas concentrations. As an application the system has been used to identify 26 carbon monoxide/hydrocarbon (CO/HC) car exhausting gases in the concentration range of CO 0%/HC 0 ppm to CO 7.6%/HC 400 ppm and the identification has been successfully demonstrated.
$Ba(Ti,Sn)O_3$ thin films, for use as dielectrics for MLCCs, were grown from Sn doped BaTiO3 sources by e-beam evaporation. The crystalline phase, microstructure, dielectric and electrical properties of films were investigated as a function of the (Ti+Sn)/Ba ratio. When $BaTiO_3$ sources doped with $20{\sim}50\;mol%$ of Sn were evaporated, $BaSnO_3$films were grown due to the higher vapor pressure of Ba and Sn than of Ti. However, it was possible to grow the $Ba(Ti,Sn)O_3$ thin films with {\leq}\;15\;mol%$ of Sn by co-evaporation of BTS and Ti metal sources. The (Ti+Sn)/Ba and Sn/Ti ratio affected the microstructure and surface roughness of films and the dielectric constant increased with increasing Sn content. The dielectric constant and dissipation factor of $Ba(Ti,Sn)O_3$ thin films with {\leq}\;15\;mol%$ of Sn showed the range of 120 to 160 and $2.5{\sim}5.5%$ at 1 KHz, respectively. The leakage current density of films was order of the $10^{-9}{\sim}10^{-8}A/cm^2$ at 300 KV/cm. The research results showed that it was feasible to grow the $Ba(Ti,Sn)O_3$ thin films as dielectrics for MLCCs by an e-beam evaporation technique.

Five mol % tungsten-doped tin oxide ($W_{0.05}Sn_{0.95}O_2$, TTO5) was prepared by co-precipitation of $SnCl_4{\cdot}5H_2O$ and $WCl_4$, followed by calcination at $1000^{\circ}C$. The as-prepared TTO5 was in the pure cassiterite phase with a particle size of ~50 nm and optical bandgap of 2.51 eV. Herein it was applied for the formation of TTO5/$TiO_2$ heterojunctions by covering the TTO5 surface with $TiO_2$ by sol-gel method. Under visible-light irradiation (${\lambda}{\geq}420$ nm), TTO5/$TiO_2$ showed a significantly high photocatalytic activity in removing gaseous 2-propanol (IP) and evolving $CO_2$. It is deduced that its high visible-light activity is caused by inter-semiconductor holetransfer between the valence band (VB) of TTO5 and $TiO_2$, since the TTO5 nanoparticle (NP) exhibits the absorption edge at ~450 nm and its VB level is located more positive side than that of $TiO_2$. The evidence for the hole-transport mechanism between TTO5 and $TiO_2$ was also investigated by monitoring the holescavenging reaction with 1,4-terephthalic acid (TA).
This study investigated sensitivity of the gas sensor to chemical weapons with the sensor material doped with catalysts. The nano-sized SnO2 powder mixed with metal oxides (TiO2) was doped with transition metals(Pt, Pd and In). Thick film of nano-sized SnO2 powder with TiO2 was prepared by screen-printing method onto Al2O3 substrates with platinum electrode and chemical precipitation method. The physical and chemical properties of sensor material were investigated by SEM/EDS, XRD and BET analyzers. The measured sensitivity to simulant toxic gas is defined as the percentage of resistance of value equation, [(Ra-Rg)/$Ra\;{\times}100$)], that of the resistance(Ra) of SnO2 film in air and the resistance(Rg) of SnO2 film in acetonitrile gas. The best sensitivity and selectivity of these thick film were shown with 1wt.% Pd and 1wt.% TiO2 for acetonitile gas at the operating temperature of $250^{\circ}C$.
