Although the previous researches evaluated the fatigue behavior of Al/GFRP laminates using the traditional fracture mechanism, their researches were not sufficient to do it : the damage zone of Al/GFRP laminates was occurred at the delamination zone instead of the crack-metallic damages. Thus, previous researches were not applicable to the fatigue behavior of Al/GFRP laminates. The major purpose of this study was to evaluate delamination behavior using the relationship between crack length (a) and delamination width (b) in Al/GFRP laminate. The details of investigation were as follows: 1) Relationship between the crack length (a) and the delamination width (b), 2) Relationship between the delamination aspect ratio (b/a) and the delamination area rate ((A$\_$D/)/subN// (A$\_$D/)$\_$All/), 3) The effect of delamination aspect ratio (b/a) on the delamination shape factor (f$\_$s/) and the delamination growth rate (dA$\_$D// da). As results, it was known that the delamination aspect ratio (b/a) was decreased and the delamination area rate ((A$\_$D/)$\_$N// (A$\_$D/)$\_$All/) was increased as the normalized crack size (a/W) was increased. And, the delamination shape factors (f$\_$s/) of the ellipse-II(f$\_$s3/) was greater than of the ellipse-I(f$\_$s2/) but that of the triangle (f$\_$s1/) was less than of the ellipse-I(f$\_$s2/).
This study planned to compare the effects of source and amount of dietary n-3 fatty acid, tuna oil and perilla oil, on lipid metabolism and eicosanoids production in Spargue-Dawley strain male rats. Weaning rats were fed 5 different experimantal diets for 4 weeks. (S : beef tallow 50%+sesame oil 50%, T1 : beef tallow 50%+sesame oil 40%+tuna oil 10%, T2 : beef tallow 50%+sesame oil 25%+tuna oil 25%, P1 : beef tallow 50%+sesame oil 40%+perilla oil 10%, P2 : beef tallow 50%+sesame oil 25%+perilla oil 25%) Food intake was higher in T2 group than in other groups, but body weight gain and food efficiency tate were not different among groups. Plasma total lipid and triglyceride were significantly lower in groups fed perilla oil as much as groups fed tuna oil than in S. But tuna oil reduced plasma cholesterol level more than perilla oil. Liver total lipid per unit, cholesterol and triglyceride were not affected by dietary fat sources. Peroxisomal $\beta$-oxidation was higher in T1 and T2 than in P1 and P2. Activities of glucose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase and malic enzyme were lower in T1 and T2 than in group fed sesame oil only. Plasma TXB2 was affected by n-3 fatty acid consumption, and it was lower in perilla oil groups as much as tuna oil groups than in S. But 6-keto PGF1$\alpha$ was not different among experimental groups. The results of this study indicated that tuna oil and perilla oil both decreased plasma lipids, however, the mechanism may be different. And tuna oil and perilla oil had a similar effects on eicosanoids production.
Depression is associated with a dysfunctional serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine; 5-HT) system. More recently, several lines of evidence suggest that an important factor in the development of depression may be a deficit in the function and expression of $5-HT_{1A}$ receptors. The present study assessed if Nelumbinis Semen (N. s.) had an anti-depression effect through reversing a decrease in $5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding in rats with depression-like symptoms induced by chronic mild stress. Using a $5-HT_{1A}$ receptor binding assay, with a specific $5-HT_{1A}$receptor agonist, 8- OH-DPAT (8-hydroxy-2-(di-n-propylamino) tetralin), the mechanism of the anti-depression effect of N. s. on rats was investigated, and the effects compared with two well-known antidepressants, Hyperium Perforatum (St. Johns Wort) and fluoxetine (Prozac). Animals were divided into five groups: the normal (N) group without chronic mild stress (CMS), the control (C) group under CMS for 8 weeks, the Nelumbinis Semen (N. s.) treatment group under CMS for 8 weeks, the Hyperium Perforatum (H. p.) treatment group under CMS for 8 weeks and finally, the fluoxetine (F) treatment group under CMS for 8 weeks. Each treatment was administered to rats during the last 4 weeks of the 8-week CMS. A sucrose intake test was performed to test the anti-depression effect of N. s. The N. s. treatment significantly reversed the decreased sucrose intake under CMS (P<0.05 compared to control group under CMS). In the CA2 and CA3 regions of the hippocampus, both N. s. and H. p. reversed the CMS-induced decrease in $5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding. In the I to II regions of the frontal cortex, N. s. and H. p. also reversed the CMS-induced decrease in$5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding, and even showed a significant increase in $5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding compared to the F treatment group (N. s. vs. P, p<0.05, H. p. vs. P, p<0.05). However, in the hypothalamus, all treatments reversed the CMSinduced decrease in $5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding. This reversal effect of N. s. on the decrease in $5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding in the frontal cortex, hippocampus and hypothalamus of rat brains was very similar to that of H. p, but different from that of F. It is concluded that N. s. presents an anti-depression effect through enhancing $5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding.
A Star and Pancake graph also have such a good property of a hypercube and have a low network cost than the hypercube. A Macro-star graph which has the star graph as a basic module has the node symmetry, the maximum fault tolerance, and the hierarchical decomposition property. And, it is an interconnection network which improves the network cost against the Star graph. In this paper, we propose a method to embed between Star graph, Pancake graph, and Macro-star graph using the edge definition of graphs. We prove that the Star graph $S_n$ can be embedded into Pancake graph $P_n$ with dilation 4, and Macro-star graph MS(2,n) can be embedded into Pancake graph $P_{2n+1}$ with dilation 4. Also, we have a result that the embedding cost, a Pancake graph can be embedded into Star and Macro-star graph, is O(n).
Phosphodiesterase (PDE) plays an important role in cAMP-mediated signaling within cells. We previously showed that the long-form of Aplysia PDE4 (ApPDE4) was localized in the plasma membrane and the presynaptic terminal in Aplysia sensory neurons, and the 16 N-terminal amino acid was sufficient for this targeting process. In this study, we characterized the cellular localization of various ApPDE4 mutants. We first identified the roles of each amino acid within the group of 16 N-terminal amino acids of long-form ApPDE4. As a result, we were able to identify various mutants that were localized to both the plasma membrane and the Golgi complex, Golgi only, or both the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and the Golgi complex. To examine the role of palmitoylation on the cellular localization of ApPDE4 mutants, 2-bromo palmitate (2-BR) was used as a treatment. As a result, in the presence of 2-BR, the plasma membrane targeting of many mutants was impaired, indicating that palmitoylation was involved in the plasma membrane targeting of the mutants. We also found that PI4P play crucial roles in the Golgi targeting of (N16,C3S/VV/G)-mRFP, L(N16,C3S/LFS/R)-mRFP, and L(N16,EPL/R)-mRFP.
Structural properties of rf sputtered boron nitride films were studied as a function of deposition parameters such as nitrogen pressure, substrate temperature and substrate bias using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Auger electron spectroscopy. Composition and information on chemical bonding of resultant films was determined by XPS. XPS core level spectra showed that ratio of boron to nitrogen varied from 3.11 to 1.45 with respect to partial nitrogen pressure. Curve fitting of XPS spectra revealed three kinds of bonding mechanism of boron in the films. XPS peak positions of both B 1s and N 1s shifted to higher energy with higher nitrogen pressure as well as increase in substrate bias voltage. AES was used to see possible contamination of films by carbon or oxygen as well.

The effects of N-acetylphytospingosine(NAPS), one of the phytospingosine derivatives, on melanogenesis of B 16F 1 0 mouse melanoma cell lines were investigated. We assessed the effect of NAPS on the depigmentation of B16F10 cells. The melanin content of cells was significantly reduced by NAPS. We examined the inhibitory effect of NAPS on tyrosinase activity using L-dopa as a substrate and the results showed that tyrosinase activity was inhibited in a does-dependent manner. The mRNA level of tyrosinase as well as that of tyrosinase related protein-l (TRP-l) and tyrosinase related protein-2 (TRP-2) genes were not affected by NAPS based on a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assay. We also performed a Western blotting analysis using anti-tyrosinase antibody. It showed that there is no change in tyrosinase protein level after treatment of NAPS. These results suggest that the depigmenting mechanism of NAPS in B16F10 melanoma cells involves inhibition of melanosomal tyrosinase activity, rather than the mRNA expression or protein level of tyrosinase.

A critical review on existing creep theories in calcium-silicate-hydrate (C-S-H) is presented with an emphasis on several fundamental questions (e.g. the roles of water, relative humidity, temperature, atomic ordering of C-S-H). A consensus on the rearrangement of nanostructures of C-S-H as a main consequence of creep, has almost been achieved. However, main disagreement still exists on two basic aspects regarding creep mechanisms: (1) at which site the creep occurs, like at interlayer, intergranular, or regions where C-S-H has a relatively higher solubility; (2) how the structural rearrangement evolutes, like in a manner of interlayer sliding, intra-transfer of water at various scales, recrystallization of gelled-like particles, or dissolution-diffusion-reprecipitation at inter-particle boundary. The further understanding of creep behavior of C-S-H relies heavily on the appropriate characterization of its nanostructure.
Almost half of primeval galaxies show P-Cygni type profiles in the Ly$\alpha$ emission line. The main underlying mechanism for the profile formation in these systems is thought to be the frequency re-distribution of the line photons in expanding scattering media surrounding the emission source. A Monte Carlo code is developed to investigate the Ly$\alpha$ line transfer in an optically thick and moving medium with a careful consideration of the scattering in the damping wings. Typical column densities and expansion velocities of neutral hydrogen investigated in this study are $N_{H1}{\~}10^{17-20}\;cm^{-2}$ and ${\Delta}V{\~} 100 km\;s^{-1}$. We investigate the dependence of the emergent profiles on the kinematics and on the column density. Our numerical results are applied to show that the damped Ly$\alpha$ absorbers may possess an expanding H I supershell with bulk flow of ${\~}200 km\;s^{-l}$ and H I column density $N_{H1}{\~}10^{19}\;cm^{-2}$. We briefly discuss the observational implications.
Thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) and nonsolvent induced phase separation (NIPS) were simultaneously induced for the preparation of flat PVDF membranes. N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) was used as a solvent and dibutyl-phthlate (DBP) was used as a diluent for PVDF. When PVDF was melt blended with NMP and DBP, crystallization temperature was lowered for TIPS and unstable region was expanded for NIPS. Ratio of solvent to diluent changed the phase separation mechanism to obtain the various membrane structures. Contact mode of dope solution with nonsolvent determined the dominant phase separation behavior. Since heat transfer rate was greater than mass transfer rate, surface structure was formed by NIPS and inner structure was by TIPS. Quenching temperature of dope solution also affected the phase separation mechanism and phase separation rate to result in the variation of structure.
