In order to purify diethylene glycol as main impurity included in p-dioxanone, SLE (solid-liquid equilibria) and mixture density on two components system of p-dioxanone and diethylene glycol were measured and a layered melt crystallization with seed has been applied. The SLE of p-dioxanone and diethylene glycol were a simple eutectic system and the temperature and PDX concentration at eutectic point were 0.08 and 246 K, respectively. Densities of their binary mixtures were well fitted by the best correlation equation, ${\rho}_l=0.405+1.361x+0.002T-0.004xT$. In the melt crystallization, the growth rate (G) was proportional to the 1.5th power of the subcooling degree. The effective distribution coefficient ($K_{eff}$) as the degree of impurity removal was observed to increase with increasing the growth rate and initial p-dioxanone concentration. And also, $K_{eff}$ was correlated with Z function using Wintermantel's model such as $K_{eef}=-0.0604+6.392{\times}Z$. Finally, PDX purity through the optimization of this process can be obtained over 99%.
In this research, an extractive production system for alkaloids, where production and some degree of separation occur simultaneously, was developed in a way that the fast removal of alkaloid produced from the suspension cultures was done by capturing alkaloid with cyclodextrins. The alkaloid production was substantially enhanced up to 40 fold when the solid cultures of E. califonica cells treated with ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin compared to the control. The enhancement of alkaloid production was also observed in the suspension cultures. Interestingly, the production pattern seemed to change when the cultures were treated with ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin so that the major part of the alkaloids in the treated cultures was present in the medium, while the non-treated cultures produced the alkaloids intracellularly. ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin was the most effective one in terms of the alkaloid production among the cyclodextrilns(${\alpha}$-cylodextrin, ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin and ${\gamma}$-cyclodextrin) tested in the suspension cultures. ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin showed no adverse effect on the cell growth. The most effective concentration of ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin was observed around 1.5% (w/v) in the suspension cultures. The formation of the inclusion complex of the alkaloids with ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin in the suspension cultures was confirmed by detecting the shift of UV absorbance from 274 nm to 282 nm with a UV spectrophotometer.

Numerical study on coastal water quality management was conducted to examine the response of summer water quality to the flow into the sea of land based pollution load in Ulsan Bay, Korea The abatement of pollution load. from point sources of land was estimated on the basis of Korean coastal water quality standard using an ecosystem model. The results of the ecological model simulation showed that COD values in the inner part of the bay were greater than 280mg/L, and exceeded the grade III limit of Korean coastal water quality standard 30% of all land based pollution loads or organic and inorganic material loads from point sources should be cut down to keep the COD levels below 2mg/L. As environmental carrying capacity was estimated to be 7,193kgCOD/day to keep the COD levels below 2mg/L in Ulsan Bay, 3,083kgCOD/day of land based organic loads should be reduced. The phytoplankton blooms have occurred in the Teahwa river mouth or estuary repetitively, so it is important to control land based nutrients loads for removal of autochthonous organic loads around Ulsan Bay.

In order to remediate soils contaminated with oxyanionic As and cationic Zn and Ni through the pilot-scale acid washing, the effectiveness of acid washing and the properties of contaminated soils, fine soil particle and dissolved contaminants were evaluated. $H_{2}SO_4\;and\;H_{3}PO_4$ washing at pH $2{\sim}3$ enhanced the removal of As by the presence of competitive oxyanions and HCl washing effectively removed simultaneously As, Zn and Ni. The effectiveness of soil washing was little enhanced above the critical reaction time, and the carbonate, Fe/Mn oxide and organic/sulfides associated fraction were dominantly removed. The washing of coarse soil particles was highly efficient, but that of fine soil particles($<74{\mu}m$) was recalcitrant due to the enrichment with contaminants. Moreover, the physical separation of fine particles($<149{\mu}m$) enhanced the overall efficiency of soil washing. Therefore, both chemical extraction and separation of fine soil particles showed the high effectiveness of soil washing in the intersection point to minimize the amount of fine soil particles and to maximize the chemical extraction of contaminants.

We performed the experimental study on the control of suspended dust in a cement packaging process for various ventilation systems. To effectively remove the dust generated in the cement packaging process, three different kinds of ventilation system, such as local exhaust ventilation, electrostatic scrubber, and local air supply system, were adopted. Dust concentrations in the packaging process were measured with the variation of the airflow rate of the ventilation systems and then their ventilation performance were evaluated. From the results, we knew that the ventilation performance was the best when the local exhaust ventilation and the electrostatic scrubber were simultaneously operated in the packaging process. In the electrostatic scrubber system, the effect of the airflow rate on the indoor dust removal efficiency was negligible so hat he system ust be operated at $2,700m^3/h$ for saving power consumption.
In this study, the radiation dose rate was measured by time and distance and evaluated whether radiation dose rate was suitable for domestic and international discharge criteria. In addition, the radiation dose emitted from the patient was measured with a glass dosimeter to evaluate the exposure dose if the caregiver stays in the isolated ward by placing a humanoid phantom instead of the caregiver at a distance of 1 m from the patient, on the second day of treatment. After 23 hours of isolation, the radiation dose rates at a distance of 1 m were 20.54 ± 6.21 µSv/h at 2.96 GBq administration and 27.94 ± 12.33 µSv/h at 3.70 GBq administration. The radiation dose rates at a distance of 1 m were 25.90 ± 2.21 µSv/h when 2.96 GBq was administered and 34.22 ± 10.06 µSv/h when 3.70 GBq was administered after 18 hours of isolation. However, if the isolation period is short may cause unnecessary radiation exposure to the third person. The reading of the attached dosimeter from the morning of the second day of treatment until removal was 0.01 to 0.95 mSv, which is a surface dose determined by the International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurements. And the depth dose was 0.01 to 0.99 mSv. On the second day of treatment, even if the patient caregivers stayed in the isolation ward, the exposure dose of the patient family did not exceed the effective dose limit of 5 mSv recommended by the ICRP and NCRP.
Seasonal and spatial variations in the concentrations of trace elements, pH and Eh were found in a creek watershed affected by mine drainage and leachate from several waste rock dumps within the As-Pb-rich Indae mine site. Because of mining activity dating back to about 40 years ago and rupture of the waste rock dumps, this creek was heavily contaminated. Due to the influx of leachate and mine drainage, the water quality of upstream reach in this creek was characterized by largest seasonal and spatial variations in concentrations of Zn(up to $5.830 mg/{\ell}$), Cu(up to $1.333 mg/{\ell}$), Cd(up to $0.031 mg/{\ell}$) and $SO_4^{2-}$(up to $173 mg/{\ell}$), relatively acidic pH values (3.8-5.1) and highly oxidized condition. The most abundant metals in the leachate samples were in order of Zn($0.045-13.909 mg/{\ell}$), Fe($0.017-8.730mg/{\ell}$), Cu($0.010-4.154mg/{\ell}$) and Cd($n.d.-0.077mg/{\ell}$), with low pH(3.1-6.1), and high $SO_4^{2-}$(up to $310 mg/{\ell}$). The mine drainage also contained high concentrations of Zn, Cu, Cd and $SO_4^{2-}$ and remained constantly near-neutral pH values(6.5-7.0) in all the year. While the leachate and mine drainage might not affect short-term fluctuations in flow, it may significantly influence the concentrations of chemicals in the stream. The abundance and chemistry of Fe-(oxy)hydroxide within this creek indicated that the Fe-(oxy)hydroxide formation could be responsible for some removal of trace elements from the creek waters. Spatial and seasonal variations along down-stream reach of this creek were caused largely by the influx of water from uncontaminated tributaries. In addition, the trace metal concentrations in this creek have been decreased nearly down to the background level at a short distance from the discharge points without any artificial treatments after hydrologic mixing in a tributary. The nonconservative(i.e. precipitation, adsorption, oxidation, dissolution etc.) and conservative(hydrologic mixing) reactions constituted an efficient mechanism of natural attenuation which reduces considerably the transference of trace elements to rivers.

Purpose: The incidence of nodal metastases is as low as 2 to $20\%$ in early gastric cancer, so there is a trend to lessen the extent of surgery. In addition, the adequate range for a lymphadenectomy is controversial, especially in early gastric cancer. In this study, we tried to find the minimal range for a lymphadenectomy by analyzing sentinel-node and solitary lymph-node metastases in gastric cancer. Materials and Methods: The total of 78 patients who underwent a curative gastrectomy with a D2 lymphadenectomy for early gastric cancer between 2000 and 2002 in the Department of Surgery, Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea, were included for the evaluation of sentinel-node metastases.. After a laparotomy, 25 mg of indocyanine green was mixed in 5 ml of normal saline, and all the dye was injected into the subserosal layer around the primary tumor. All nodes stained within 5 minutes were marked. In addition, a total of 141 patients, who underwent a curative gastrectomy between 1997 and 2001 at the Department of Surgery, Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea, were analyzed for solitary lymph- node metastases. Results: Among the 78 patients, sentinel nodes were detected in 69 patients ($88.5\%$). The sentinel nodes in 60 cases ($87.0\%$) were located in the perigastric area. However, 9 cases ($13.0\%$) had sentinel nodes in the N2 group. In the 141 cases that had a solitary metastatic node, 125 cases ($88.6\%$) demonstrated the metastatic lymph node in the perigastric area, and 16 cases ($11.4\%$) showed that the metastatic node in the N2 group. Conclusion: Taken together, removal of a perigastric lymph node could miss early metastases in gastric cancer, so a D1 lymphadenectomy should not be the minimal range of dissection if a lymphadenectomy is necessary. In this study, activated clay treated with H2SO4 (20% by weight) and heat at 90 ℃ for 8 h for acid white soil was used as an adsorbent for the removal of PO43--P in water. Prior to the adsorption experiment, the characteristics of activated clay was examined by X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry (XRF) and BET surface area analyser. The adsorption of PO43--P on activated clay was steeply increased within 0.25 h and reached equilibrium at 4 h. At 5 mg/L of low PO43--P concentration, roughly 98% of adsorption efficiency was accomplished by activated clay. The adsorption data of PO43--P were introduced to the adsorption isotherm and kinetic models. It was seen that both Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms were applied well to describe the adsorption behavior of PO43--P on activated clay. For adsorption PO43--P on activated clay, the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm coefficients, KF and Q, were found to be 8.3 and 20.0 mg/g, respectively. The pseudo-second-order kinetics model was more suitable for adsorption of PO43--P in water/activated clay system owing to the higher correlation coefficient R2 and the more proximity value of the experimental value qe,exp and the calculated value qe,cal than the pseudo-first-order kinetics model. The results of study indicate that activated clay could be used as an efficient adsorbent for the removal of PO43-P from water.
Lower leaves of aromatic tobacco are also much lower in Quality than upper leaves. So feasibility test of no harvesting and curing of lower leaves was conducted under high planting density and high nitrogen conditions with conventional cultural system. Effect of harvesting time on yield and Quality were investigated under 2 nitrogen levels. Among harvesting methods of conventional harvest with priming under high planting density, no-harvest of first priming, removal of lower leaves which relevant to first prime stalk before maturity, no-harvest of first and second priming. no-harvesting or pruning of first prime stalk before maturity was best in yield, price and in crude income. The shortor the harvest period became, the lower the yield, price and contents of reducing sugar and nicotine became, but reverse in this trends with total nitrogen and protein nitrogen. So 6 or 8 days interval of harvest is most recommendable.
