  • This paper describes the electron transport characteristics in $SF_6$+He gas calculated for range of E/N values from $50{\sim}700[Td]$ by the Monte Carlo simulation and Boltzmann equation method using a set of electron collision cross sections determined by the authors and the values of electron swarm parameters are obtained by TOF method. The results gained that the values of the electron swarm parameters such as the electron drift velocity, the electron ionization or attachment coefficients, longitudinal and transverse diffusion coefficients agree with the experimental and theoretical for a range of E/N.

  • The electron transport coefficients in $SF_6+N_2$ gas is analysed in range of E/N values from 100~900(Td) by a Monte Carlo simulation and Boltzmann method, using a set of electron collision cross sections determined by the authors. The result of the Monte Carlo simulation such as electron drift velocity, ionization and electron attachment coefficients, longitudinal and transverse diffusion coefficients in nearly agreement with the respective experimental and theoretical for a range of E/N.

  • The electron transport coefficients in $SF_6$+$N_2$ gas is analyzed in range of E/P values from 70~240(V/cm $Torr^{-1}$) at 2$0^{\circ}C$ by Boltzmann method that using set of electron collision cross sections determined by authors. The result of this Boltzmann simulation such as ionisation coefficient, attachment coefficient, effective ionisation coefficient and breakdown voltage are in nearly agreement with the respective experimental and theoretical for a range of E/P.

  • In this paper the breakdown and dielectric characteristics of purified transformer oil dissolved with $SF_6$ Gas are investigated with a few decade MHz frequency voltage. The results are as follows. 1) High frequency current is a approximately proportional to the square root of high frequency voltage in purified transformer oil. 2) As frequency increase breakdown voltage decrease inversely proportional to the square root of frequency and the high frequency breakdown voltage is lower about 35 percentage than that of AC 3) The breakdown voltage of high frequency has a little increase with the pressure increase of dissolved $SF_6$, Air and Ar Gas. 4) As voltage freguency increases the value of the dielectric loss tangent has increased almost exponentially and the dielectric constant ($\varepsilon$) has tended to decrease with a slope[0.6% MHz]. 5) When dissolved with $SF_6$ Gas, oil electrical characteristics has more increased about 25% than in Air or Ar gas with high voltage frequency.

  • In this research the polyethersulfone hollow fiber membrane was used to separate Sulfur Hexafluoride ($SF_6$) which is the one of the six greenhouse gases from Air ($N_2$). The effects of the non-solvent (Acetone, Ethanol) type, air-gap and post-treatment (surface silicon coating) were investigated by the structure and performance of the membranes. The structure change of the membrane was examined by scanning electron microscope. The single gas permeation using $N_2$, $SF_6$ through the membrane surface coated with silicon showed maximum 7.64 perm-selectivity improved 3.4 times.

A Study on Plasma Etching Reaction of Cobalt for Metallic Surface Decontamination (금속 표면 제염을 위한 코발트의 플라즈마 식각 반응 연구)

  • In this study, plasma processing of metal surface is experimentally investigated to enhance the surface decontamination efficiency and to find out the reaction mechanism. Cobalt, the major contaminant in the nuclear facilities, and three fluorine-containing gases, $CF_4/O_2$, $SF_6/O_2$, and $NF_3$ are chosen for the investigation. Thin metallic disk specimens are prepared and their surface etching reactions with the three plasma gases are examined. Results show that the maximum etching rate of $17.2\;{\mu}m/min.$ is obtained with NF3 gas at $420^{\circ}C$, while with $CF_4/O_2$, $SF_6/O_2$ gas plasmas those of $2.56\;{\mu}m/min.$ and $1.14\;{\mu}m/min.$ are obtained, respectively. Along with etching experiments, constituent elements of the reaction products are identified to be cobalt, oxygen, and fluorine by AES (Auger Electron Spectroscopy) analysis. It turns out that the oxygen atoms are physically adsorbed ones to the surface from the ambient not participation ones during the analysis after reaction, which supports that the surface reaction of cobalt is mainly to be a fluorination reaction.

Permeation and Permselectivity variation of $O_2$, $CF_4$ and $SF_6$ through Polymeric Hollow Fiber Membranes (고분자 분리막 재질 변화에 따른 $O_2$, $CF_4$, $SF_6$ 투과도 및 투과선택도 특성 변화에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, we tried to observe the permeation on the single $O_2$, $CF_4$ and $SF_6$ gas using a PSF (polysulfone), PC (tetra-bromo polycarbonate) and PI (polyimide) hollow fiber membranes. We also observed the permselectivity on the $O_2/SF_6$ and $CF_4/SF_6$. According to the results of single gases permeation for different pressures, PSF membrane has the highest $O_2$ permeation of 37.5 GPU and PC membrane has the highest $SF_6$ permeation of 2.7 GPU and the highest $CF_4$ permeation of 2.5 GPU at 1.1 MPa. According to the results of single gases permeation for different temperatures, PSF membrane has the highest permeation of $O_2$ at $45^{\circ}C$ and PC membrane has the highest permeation of $SF_6$ and $CF_4$ at $25^{\circ}C$. From the result of $O_2/SF_6$ and $CF_4/SF_6$ permselectivity for different pressures and temperature, the highest permeation and the lowest permselectivity were observed in the PSF and PC membrane. On the contrary, the lowest permeation and the highest permselectivity was observed in the PI membrane.

  • A sub-cooled liquid nitrogen cooling system is known as a most promising method to develop large scale superconducting apparatuses such as superconducting fault current limiters and superconducting cables [1]. Gaseous helium (GHe), gaseous nitrogen ($GN_2$) and sulfur hexafluoride ($SF_6$) are commonly used for designing an high voltage applied superconducting device as an injection gaseous medium [2, 3]. In this paper, the analysis on the dielectric characteristics of GHe, $GN_2$ and $SF_6$ are conducted by designing and manufacturing sphere-to-plane electrode systems. The AC withstand voltage experiments on the various gaseous insulation media are carried out and the results are analyzed by using finite element method (FEM) considering field utilization factors (${\xi}$). It is found that the electric field intensity at sparkover ($E_{MAX}$) of insulation media exponentially decreases according to ${\xi}$ increases. Also, the empirical expressions of the functional relations between $E_{MAX}$ and ${\xi}$ of insulation media are deduced by dielectric experiments and computational analyses. It is expected that the electrical insulation design of applied superconducting devices could be performed by using the deduced empirical formulae without dielectric experiments.

Characteristics of lightning impulse preliminary breakdown discharge under non-uniform electric field in $SF_6/CO_2$ mixtures (불평등전장에서 $SF_6/CO_2$ 혼합기체의 뇌임펄스 전구방전특성)

  • This paper presents the experimental results on the preliminary breakdown characteristics under a highly non-uniform electric field in $SF_6/CO_2$ gas mixtures. The impulse preliminary breakdown developments are investigated by the measurements of corona current and light emission images. As a result, the preliminary breakdown development mechanisms for both positive and negative polarities are same. The first streamer corona is initiated at the tip of needle electrode, and the leaders develop with a stepwise propagation and bridge the test gap. The pause time of leader pulses in the positive polarity is significantly shorter than that in the negative polarity. Also, the time interval between the first streamer corona onset and breakdown in the negative polarity was much longer than that in the positive polarity The discharge channel paths in the positive polarity were zigzag. On the other hands, the leader channel in the negative polarity was thicker than that in the positive polarity.
