Ultra fast Marx Generator of N2, SF6, N2-SF6 Mixture Gas based on Research Output Characteristics (초고속 Marx Generator의 N2, SF6, N2-SF6 혼합가스에 따른 출력 특성 연구)

  • The application field of the pulse power is very wide. Recently, Pulse power technologies take a large place in several applications. Then, many civil and military applications proceed. Marx generator is widely used in high voltage applications. Marx generator is widely used in high voltage applications, such as eletromagnetic wave and power lasers. This paper, we described about the high voltage pulse generator. A compact size high voltage pulse generator with nanosecnd rise time has been fabricated and investigated experimentally. The marx generator has 2 stages. Each stage was constructed one charging capacitor, two electrodes and one charging resistor. A inductance structure is used in order to improve the switching performances fo the whole generator. The experiments of rise time in pure gas and mixtures of gases were described. We tested the Marx generator at different insulation gas. the results show that the dielectric strength of the $N_2-SF_6$ mixture was significantly increased compared with pure nitrogen gas. The experimental results show that the rise time characteristics of the Marx generator can be controlled through varying insulation gas.

  • $SF_6$ 가스는 높은 절연 특성으로 인해 산업공정에서 순수 또는 $N_2$$CO_2$ 가스를 혼합시켜 광범위하게 사용되고 있다. 그러나 $SF_6$ 가스의 지구온난화지수는 $CO_2$ 대비 23,900배로 환경에 치명적인 영향을 줄 수 있으므로, $SF_6$ 가스에 대한 분리 및 처리에 관한 연구가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 조성에 따른 $SF_6-N_2$ 혼합기체의 3상평형(물-하이드레이트-기체)점을 측정하였다. 측정결과 $N_2$가 더 많이 첨가된 혼합기체일수록 순수 $SF_6$의 상평형 조건보다 더 높은 압력, 더 낮은 온도에서 형성됨을 알 수 있었고 라만분석으로 실제 만들어진 하이드레이트 내에 혼합기체를 확인하였다. 또한 하이드레이트 형성속도 및 회수기체의 조성을 측정하여 분리 및 회수의 효율을 살펴보았다. 본 실험에서 얻어진 결과는 $SF_6$ 혼합기체의 분리 및 처리에 관한 연구의 중요한 기초 자료가 될 것이다.

  • Sulfur hexafluoride is the most commly used insulation gas in electrical systems. Gas insulated systems are widely used in the electric power industry for transmission and distribution of electrical energy. When $SF_6$ was first discovered, the potential application was only considered for insulation because of good dielectric properties. But the widespread use of $SF_6$ gas by electric power and other industries has led to increase concentrations of $SF_6$ gas in the atmosphere. This concern as to possible effects on global warming because $SF_6$ is a potent greenhouse gas. That's why firstly we studied uniform and nonuniform field property by mixing $SF_6$ and N2 gas. This paper presents the dielectric strength and insulating property for particle contamination under $SF_6/N_2$ mixtures. Two types of mixed gases(50% $SF_6$_50%$N_2$, 20% $SF_6$_80%$N_2$) were applied. We performed tests for the length and shape of particle. Test gas pressure is from 0.3 to 0.7 Mpa. The study was conducted to develop environment-friendly insulating material for GIS that can reduce $SF_6$ gas and make a design criteria for mixtures.

  • 본 논문에서는 질소와 이산화탄소를 완충기체로 사용하는 경우의 혼합가스에 대해 가스절연설비 내부의 이물질에 의한 절연파괴특성을 모의하기 위한 침-평판 전극구조에서의 침전극 재질을 연철, 고탄소강, 스테인레스강 등으로 구성한 경우 혼합가스의 절연파괴 특성에서 나타나는 전극 재질에 의한 영향을 실험적으로 검토해 보았다. 실험 결과 연철제 전극과 고탄소강제 전극의경우에는 혼합가스의 절연파괴특성에서 유사한 N-특성이 나타남을 확인할 수 있었으나 스테인레스 강제 전극의 경우에는 다소 상이한 양상이 나타났다. $SF_6$계 혼합가스의 경우에는 순 $SF_6$의 경우와 동일하게 코로나 안정화작용에 의한 N-특성이 발현됨이 일반적인 특성으로 알려져 있으나 본 실험 결과에 의하면 침전극 재질에 따라 다소 상이한 양상이 나타날 수 있음을 관측하였다.

  • With the improvement of industrial society, the high quality electrical energy, simplification of operation and maintenance, ensuring reliability and safety are being required. This paper compares breakdown characteristics in $SF_6$ gas with $N_2/O_2$ Mixture gas($N_2:O_2=100$ : 0, 79 : 21, 60 : 40, 40 : 60) as using widely in High Voltage insulation equipment with the characteristics in different media which are focused on environmentally friendly gases. As an append result of research the results are fundamental data for electric insulation design of Distribution Power Facilities which will be studied and developed in the future. And we could make an environment friendly gas insulation material with mataining dielectric strength by $N_2/O_2$ Mixture gas which generates a lower lever of the global warming effect.

Research on Liquefaction Characteristics of SF6 Substitute Gases

  • $SF_6$ has been widely used in high voltage power equipment, such as gas insulated switchgear (GIS) and gas insulated transmission line (GIL), because of its excellent insulation and arc extinguishing performance. However, $SF_6$ faces two environmental problems: greenhouse effect and high liquefaction temperature. Therefore, to find the $SF_6$ substitute gases has become a research hotspot in recent years. In this paper, the liquefaction characteristics of $SF_6$ substitute gases were studied. Peng-Robinson equation of state with the van der Waals mixing rule (PR-vdW model) was used to calculate the dew point temperature of the binary gas mixtures, with $SF_6$, $C_3F_8$, $c-C_4F_8$, $CF_3I$ or $C_4F_7N$ as the insulating gas and $N_2$ or $CO_2$ as the buffer gas. The sequence of the dew point temperatures of the binary gas mixtures under the same pressure and composition ratio was obtained. $SF_6/N_2$ < $SF_6/CO_2$ < $C_3F_8/N_2$ < $C_3F_8/CO_2$ < $CF_3I/N_2$ < $CF_3I/CO_2$ < $c-C_4F_8/N_2$ < $C_4F_7N/N_2$ < $c-C_4F_8/CO_2$ < $C_4F_7N/CO_2$. $SF_6/N_2$ gas mixture showed the best temperature adaptability and $C_4F_7N/CO_2$ gas mixture showed the worst temperature adaptability. Furthermore, the dew point temperatures of the $SF_6$ substitute gases at different pressures and the upper limits of the insulating gas mole fraction at $-30^{\circ}C$, $-20^{\circ}C$ and $-10^{\circ}C$ were obtained. The results would supply sufficient data support for GIS/GIL operators and researchers.

A Study on Characteristics of Insulation Breakdown and Surface Discharge by the Mixing Ratio of Dry Air/O2 gas mixtures (Dry Air/O2 혼합가스의 혼합비에 따른 절연파괴 및 연면방전 특성 연구)

  • This paper presents the discharge characteristics and economic feasibility of a Dry $Air/O_2$ and a $N_2/O_2$ mixture gas in order to review $SF_6$ alternative. From AC discharge experiment in an quasi-uniform field, it was found that the optimal $N_2/O_2$ mixing ratio which breakdown voltage and surface flashover voltage were the highest was 70/30 and that the pressure dependence on the breakdown voltage was higher than that of the surface flashover voltage in the Dry $Air/O_2$ and the $N_2/O_2$ mixture gas. The mixing ratio (70/30) and the tendency of the pressure dependence were described in detail based on physical factors (impact ionization coefficient, electron attachment coefficient, secondary electron emission coefficient) involved in discharge mechanism and a electron source, respectively. In addition, the performance insulation and the economic feasibility of the Dry $Air/O_2$ and the $N_2/O_2$ mixture gas were discussed so that Dry $Air/O_2$ mixture gaswas more suitable than $N_2/O_2$ mixture gas to the $SF_6$ alternative.

Separation and Recovery of $SF_6$ Gas from $N_2/SF_6$ Gas Mixtures by using a Polymer Hollow Fiber Membranes (고분자 중공사 분리막을 이용한 $N_2/SF_6$ 혼합가스로부터 $SF_6$의 분리 및 회수)

  • $SF_6$ (Sulfur hexafluoride) possesses high GWP (Global Warming Potential) as sepcified by the IPCC (Intergonvernmental Panel of Climate Change). Recently, the recovery-separtion of $SF_6$ research area, including permeation properties studies using various membrane's materials and the practical operation of recovery-separtion using membrane of waste $SF_6$ gas is in the initial state. The separation efficiency of a single $SF_6$ and waste $SF_6$ mixture was evaluated using a PSF (polysulfone), PC (tetra-bromo polycarbonate) and PI (polyimide) hollow fiber membranes. According to the results of single gases permeation properties, PI membrane has the highest permselectivity of $N_2$ gas in $N_2/SF_6$ gas. Under the condition of P=0.5 MPa, the highest concentration of recovered $SF_6$ is 95.6 vol % in the separation experiment of $SF_6/N_2$ mixture gas by PC membrane. Under the operation pressure of P=0.3 MPa at a fixed retentate flow rate fixed of 150 cc/min, the maximum recovery efficiency of $SF_6$ is up to 97.8% by PSF membrane. From the results above, it is thought that the separation and recovery technique of $SF_6$ gas using membrane will be used as the representative eco-technology in the $SF_6$ gas treatment in the future.

  • This paper describes the effect of particles on insulation characteristics of $SF_6-N_2$ mixtures such as breakdown voltages, lift-off voltages and maximum discharge. As a result, the breakdown voltage was increased with the increment of $SF_6$ and the mixture containing 20[%] of $SF_6$ has a breakdown voltage ratio factor better than the other mixtures. The lift-off voltage was nearly constant with all mixtures. Discharge was decreased with the increment of $SF_6$.

  • In this work, experimental investigation was carried out for the breakdown characteristics of $SF_6$, $N_2$ and their mixtures under the uniform and non-uniform electric field, by use of HVAC and standard impulse testing voltages, as a function of different gas pressures from 1 atm to 5 atm. The results show that the dielectric strength of the $SF_6$ mixed in $N_2$ was significantly increased at its portion of 10%, which might imply that the optimum mixture of $SF_6$ for the HV switch gear could be proposed to be 10%.
