  • $KNbO_3$is one of the best materials for efficient nonlinear frequency conversion, due to its large nonlinear optical coefficient ($d_{33}$ = 20.6 pm/V), wide transparency range (0.4 ~ 5 $\mu$m) and freedom from photorefractive effects. Quasi-phase-matched second harmonic generation using periodically poled $KNbO_3$ (PPKN) crystals has been reported. Here we report on fabrication of PPKN and demonstration of a pulsed optical param etric oscillator (QPM OPO) pumped by an Nd:YAG laser. (omitted)

Effects of Hot Isostatic Pressing on Bond Strength and Elevated Temperature Characteristics of Plasma sprayed TBC (HIP처리가 플라즈마 용사된 열차폐 코팅층의 접착강도와 고온특성에 미치는 영향)

  • A study has been made to investigate the effects of hot isostatic pressing(HIP ping) on bond strength and elevated temperature characteristics of thermal barrier coating(TBC). The specimens were prepared by HIPping of TBC which is composed of the ceramic top coat(8wt%$Y_2$$O_3$-$ZrO_2$) and the metallic bond coat on the matrix of IN738LC superalloy. The results showed that the porosity and microcracks in the ceramic top coat of TBC were significantly decreased by HIP. As a result, the bond strength of the HIPped coating was increased above 48% compared to that of as-coated specimen and microstructure was homogenized. It was found that the thermal cycle resistance of HIPped coating was inferior to that of as-coated specimen. It was considered that this result was mainly caused by the reduction of internal defects in the top coat layer which could play a role in relaxing the thermal stress due to a large difference in thermal expansion between TBC and matrix.

Comparison of OH radical generation depending on anatase to rutile ratio of TiO2 nanotube Photocatalyst (Anatase와 Rutile 결정상 비율에 따른 TiO2 nanotube의 OH radical 생성량 비교 연구)

  • This study was carried out to improve the photocatalytic reaction of TiO2 photocatalyst. During the photocatalytic reaction, OH radicals are generated and they have an excellent oxidation capability for wastewater treatment. To evaluate the OH radicals generated according to crystallographic structure of TiO2 nanotubes photocatalyst, a probe compound, 4-Chlorobenzoic acid was monitored to evaluate OH radical. Ultraviolet light was applied for photocatalytic reaction of TiO2. The 4-Chlorobenzoic acid solution was prepared at laboratory. TiO2 nanotube was grown on titanium plate by using anodization method. The annealing temperature for TiO2 nanotube was varied from 400 to 900 ℃ and the crystal forms of the TiO2 nanotube was analyzed. Depending on annealing temperature, TiO2 nanotubes have shown different crystal forms; 100% anatase (0 % rutile), 18.4 % rutile (81.6 % anatase), 36.6 % rutile (63.4 % anatase) and 98.6% rutile (1.4% anatase). As the annealing temperature increases, the rutile ratio increases. OH radical generation from 18.4 % rutile TiO2 nanotube plate was about 3.8 times higher than before annealing and 1.4 times higher than only 100 % anatase-TiO2 nanotube. The efficiency of the 18.4% rutile TiO2 nanotube was the best in comparison to TiO2 nanotube with 18.4 %, 36.6 % and 98.6 % rutile. As a result, photocatalytic ability of 18.4 % rutile-TiO2 nanotube plate was higher than 100 % anatase-TiO2 nanotube plate.

Electrochemical Properties of Ti/IrO2/SnO2-Sb-Ni Electrode for Water Treatment (수처리용 Ti/IrO2/SnO2-Sb-Ni 전극의 전기화학적 특성평가)

  • In this work, we prepared a heterojunction anode with a surface layer of SnO2-Sb-Ni (SSN) on a Ti/IrO2 electrode by thermal decomposition to improve the electrochemical activity of the Ti/IrO2 electrode. The Ti/IrO2-SSN electrode showed significantly improved electrochemical activity compared with Ti/IrO2. For the 0.1 M NaCl and 0.1 M Na2SO4 electrolytes, the onset potential of the Ti/IrO2-SSN electrode shifted in the positive direction by 0.1 VSCE and 0.4 VSCE, respectively. In 2.0-2.5 V voltages, the concentration in Ti/IrO2-SSN was 2.59-214.6 mg/L Cl2, and Ti/IrO2 was 0.55-49.21 mg/L Cl2. Moreover, the generation of the reactive chlorine species and degradation of Eosin-Y increased by 3.79-7.60 times and 1.06-2.15 times compared with that of Ti/IrO2. Among these voltages, the generation of the reactive chlorine species and degradation of Eosin-Y were the most improved at 2.25 V. Accordingly, in the Ti/IrO2-SSN electrode, it can be assumed that the competitive reaction between chlorine ion oxidation and water oxidation is minimized at an applied voltage of 2.25V.

  • 광굴절률 현상은 optical signal processing과 홀로그램 기억소자로 널리 응용 될 수 있기 때문에 지금까지 광범위하게 연구되어져 왔다. 광굴절률 현상에서 중요한 변수는 빛이 있는 동안 drift, diffusion 과 photovoltaic current와 같은 전하 운반 메카니즘을 통해서 local charge의 재분포에 따른 공간전하장(Space-charge field, $E_{sc}$ )이다. 지금까지 single beam에 의한 공간전하장을 측정하는 방법으로 birefringenc $e^{1.2}$ 와 interference metho $d^{3}$을 이용하여 굴절률 변화를 측정함으로써 얻을 수 있었다. 그러나 이런 방법들은 공간전하장의 변화를 측정하기위해서 전기광학계수를 측정하여 얻는 간접적인 방법이고 또한 실험방법도 다소 복잡하다. 따라서 본 투고에서는 이미 발표된 광굴절률 현상시 제 2 고조파 세기(SHG)의 변화로부터 공간전하장을 간단하게 측정하는 방법을 이용하여 congruent, MgO가 4mole%, F $e_2$O가 0.1mole% 첨가된 LiNb $O_3$ 단결정의 공간전하장에 대해서 연구를 하였다. 이 방법은 전기광학물질인 LiNb $O_3$에서 SHG 위상정합조건이 dc 전기장에 의존하는 성질을 이용한 것이다. 그리고 온도가 일정할 경우 전기장의 변화에 따라 SHG의 크기가 변함을 이용하였다. Optical Properties of Y3Al5O12;Ce3+,Pr3+ Transparent Ceramic Phosphor for High Power White Lighting (고출력 백색 광원용 Y3Al5O12;Ce3+,Pr3+ 투명 세라믹 형광체의 광학특성)

  • We prepared $Y_3Al_5O_{12};Ce^{3+},Pr3^{+}$ transparent ceramic phosphor using a solid state reaction method. By XRD pattern analysis and SEM measurement, our phosphors reveal an Ia-3d(230) space group of cubic structure, and the transparent ceramic phosphor has a polycrystal state with some internal cracks and pores. In the Raman scattering measurement with an increasing temperature, lattice vibrations of the transparent ceramic phosphor decrease due to its more perfect crystal structure and symmetry. Thus, low phonon generation is possible at high temperature. Optical properties of the transparent ceramic phosphor have broader excitation spectra due to a large internal reflection. There is a wide emission band from the green to yellow region, and the red color emission between 610 nm and 640 nm is also observed. The red-yellow phosphor optical characteristics enable a high Color Rendering Index (CRI) in combination with blue emitting LED or LD. Due to its good thermal properties of low phonon generation at high temperature and a wide emission range for high CRI characteristics, the transparent ceramic phosphor is shown to be a good candidate for high power solid state white lighting.

  • $La_{1/3}NbO_3$ and $La_{1/3}TaO_3$ large single crystal was prepared by the infrared floating zone method and their crystal structure and dielectric properties were investigated from the viewpoint of A - site vacancy. In $La_{1/3}TaO_3$ crystal, the crystal symmetry and approximate lattice constants was tetragonal and a $\approx$ 0.397, b $\approx$ 0.397 and c $\approx$ 0.775 from the nonextinction and the reciprocal lattice point length seen on Weissenberg and Precession photographs. The jump of some $2/3La^{3+}$ ions leads to increase the moving paths due to the generation of new vacancies at middle empty sites and thus this result is confirmed to provoke the dielectric anomaly.

  • Recently the utilization of the ozone dissolved de-ionized water(DI-O3 water) in semiconductor wet cleaning process to replace the conventional RCA methods has been studied. In this paper, we propose the water-electrode type ozone generator which has the ozone gas characteristics of the high concentration and high purity to produce the high concentration DI-O3 water for the silicon wafer surface cleaning process. The ozone generator has the dual dielectric tube structure of silent discharge type and the water is both used to electrode and cooling water. We investigate the performance of the proposed ozone generator which has the design goal of the concentration of 7[wt%] and ozone generation quantity of 6[g/hr] at flow rate of 1[$\ell$/min). The experiment results show that the water electrode type ozone generator has the characteristics of 8.48[wt%] of concentration, 8.08[g/hr] of generation quantity and 76.2[g/kWh] of yield and it's possible to use the proposed ozone generator for the DI-O3 water cleaning process of silicon wafer surface.

Design and Control of 3 D.O.F. Spherical Actuator Using the Magnetic Force of the Electromagnets (전자석의 자기력 제어를 이용한 구형 3 자유도 액추에이터의 설계 및 제어)

  • In this paper, 3 D.O.F. actuator, which has three degrees of freedom in one joint, is proposed. The proposed 3 D.O.F. spherical actuator is composed of the rotor and atator. The upper plate of the stator supports the rotor and five electromagnets are located at the base of the stator. The rotor has two permanent magnets, and each rotational axis of the rotor gimbal system is supported by the bearing. To find out the governing equations for the torque generation, Coulombs law and Lorentz force with respect to magnetism is applied. As the experimental results, if the distance between electromagnet and permanent maget is far enough, the force between these magnets can be expressed from current of coils and z-axial distance. For the purpose of control 3 D.O.F. actuator, PID control law is applied. The experimental results are presented to show the validity of the proposed 3 D.O.F. actuator.

Estimation of Methane Generation Rate and Potential Methane Generation Capacity at Cheongju Megalo Landfill Site Based on LandGEM Model (LandGEM 모델을 이용한 청주권 생활폐기물 매립장의 매립지가스 발생상수 및 메탄 잠재발생량 산정)

  • Methane is a potent greenhouse gas and methane emissions from landfill sites have been linked to global warming. In this study, LandGEM (Landfill Gas Emission Model) was applied to predict landfill gas quantity over time, and then this result was compared with the data surveyed on the site, Cheongju Megalo Landfill. LandGEM allows the input of site-specific values for methane generation rate (k) and potential methane generation capacity $L_o$, but in this study, k value of 0.04/yr and $L_o$ value of $100\;m^3$/ton were considered to be most appropriate for reflecting non-arid temperate region conventional landfilling like Cheongju Megalo Landfill. Relatively high discrepancies between the surveyed data and the predicted data about landfill gas seems to be derived from insufficient compaction of daily soil-cover, inefficient recovery of landfill gas and banning of direct landfilling of food waste in 2005. This study can be used for dissemination of information and increasing awareness about the benefits of recovering and utilizing LFG (landfill gas) and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.
