$Ni_{1/3}Co_{1/3}Mn_{1/3}(OH)_2$ powders have been synthesized in a continuously stirred tank reactor via a co-precipitation reaction between aqueous metal sulfates and NaOH using $NH_4OH$ as a chelating agent. The co-precipitation temperature is varied in the range of $30-80^{\circ}C$. Calcination of the prepared precursors with $Li_2CO_3$ for 8 h at $1000^{\circ}C$ in air results in Li $Ni_{1/3}Co_{1/3}Mn_{1/3}O_2$ powders. Two kinds of obtained powders have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy, particle size analyzer, and tap density measurements. The co-precipitation temperature does not differentiate the XRD patterns of precursors as well as their final powders. Precursor powders are spherical and dense, consisting of numerous acicular or flaky primary particles. The precursors obtained at 70 and $80^{\circ}C$ possess bigger primary particles having more irregular shapes than those at lower temperatures. This is related to the lower tap density measured for the former. The final powders show a similar tendency in terms of primary particle shape and tap density. Electrochemical characterization shows that the initial charge/discharge capacities and cycle life of final powders from the precursors obtained at 70 and $80^{\circ}C$ are inferior to those at $50^{\circ}C$. It is concluded that the optimum co-precipitation temperature is around $50^{\circ}C$.
A marine microorganism, strain 96CJ10356 produced exopolysaccharide, designated as EPS-R. To optimize culmize culture conditions for the production of EPS-R, carbon and nitrogen sources, mineral salts, temperature, and pH were exmined. From this study, STN medium for the production of EPS-R was suggested as follows; sucrose 20g, typtone 10g, NaCl 10g, MgSO45g, CaCl21g, KH2PO4 76mg, K2HPO4 83mg, FeCl2 5mg, MnCl2 1mg, NaMoO4 1mg, and ZnCl2 1mg per liter at pH 7.0. About 9.23g/L of EPS-R was obtained from STN medium after cultivation for 120h at $25^{\circ}C$ in a 5-liter jar fermentor with an aearation rate of 0.17 vvm. Apparent viscosity and flocculation activity of the culture broth were increased with the production of EPS-R and the maximal values were 415 cP and 1400 unit/mL against 0.5% activated carbon, respectively.
Heavy metal ion immobilization properties of microporous ettringite (3Ca$O{\cdot}Al_2O_3{\cdot}3CaSO_4{\cdot}32H_2$) body were examined using standard solutions of typical heavy metals. Microporous Ettringite body with desirable shape for an ionic adsorbent was obtained by the self hardening of the paste prepared from the mixture of tricalcium aluminate($C_3$A) and gypsum(CaS$O_4{\cdot}2H_2$O). Crushed grains of ettringite were soaked in each standard solutions of Pb, Co, Cd, Mn and Cr concentrated at 200 ppm. In order to evaluate the ionexchange and immobilization ability, the ionic concentration of the filtrate solution as well as the solution obtained after leaching test was measured. As a result, for the heavy metal ions excepting Cr, porous ettringite body was revealed to be excellent in ionic exchange and immobilization properties though some ions eluted at the severe condition of pH 2. The adsorption and keeping capacity for four heavy metals showed the order of $Pb{>}Co{>}Cd{>}$Mn.
Layered $LiNi_{0.83}Co_{0.11}Mn_{0.06}O_2$ cathode materials single- and dual-doped by the rare-earth elements Ce and Nd are successfully fabricated by using a coprecipitation-assisted solid-phase method. For comparison purposes, non-doping pristine $LiNi_{0.83}Co_{0.11}Mn_{0.06}O_2$ cathode material is also prepared using the same method. The crystal structure, morphology, and electrochemical performances are characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) mapping, and electrochemical techniques. The XRD data demonstrates that all prepared samples maintain a typical ${\alpha}-NaFeO_2$-layered structure with the R-3m space group, and that the doped samples with Ce and/or Nd have lower cation mixing than that of pristine samples without doping. The results of SEM and EDS show that doped elements are uniformly distributed in all samples. The electrochemical performances of all doped samples are better than those of pristine samples without doping. In addition, the Ce/Nd dual-doped cathode material shows the best cycling performance and the least capacity loss. At a 10 C-rate, the electrodes of Ce/Nd dual-doped cathode material exhibit good capacity retention of 72.7, 58.5, and 45.2% after 100, 200, and 300 cycles, respectively, compared to those of pristine samples without doping (24.4, 11.1, and 8.0%).
A bacterial strain producing highly viscous polysaccharide(A29 POL) was isolated from soil and identified sa Bacillus sp. A29. The cultural conditions of the Bacillus sp. A29 for the polysaccharide prouction were dextrin 12%, soytone 0.2%, SnCl$_{2}$ $\cdot $2H$_{2}$O 0.02%, Na$_{2}$HPO$_{4}$ $\CDOT $12H$_{2}$O 0.36%, L-alanine 0.01%, initial pH6.8, and 30$\circ $C at pH 3 FOR 4 days. Final viscosity of the culture broth was 65, 000 cp and then the amount of produced polysaccharide was 8.3 g/l. A29 POL was composed of glucose and xylose. A29 POL showed high viscosity at low concentration(0.1%) and in the presence of the salts such as NaCl or CaCl$_{2}$. A29 POL showed high viscosity acid condition and at alkali condition and high pseudoplasticity in the presence of a NaCl or CaCl$_{2}$. It was shown that the viscosity at high temperature(80$\circ $C) was decreased but it was recovered at low temperature (20$\circ $C. A29 POL was able to from film and gel in the presence of MgSO$_{4}$ $\CDOT $7H$_{2}$O, Na$_{2}$CO$_{3}$ \CDOT $H$_{2}$O, MnSO$_{4}$ $\CDOT $ 7H$_{2}$O. A29 POL had anionic charge.
The peformence tests of zinc-based desulfurization sorbents using the yellow earth as support for the hot gas clean up were carried out. The zinc-based sorbent with 25 wt% yellow earth was prepared, and their properties such as the reaction rate, the sulfur capacity and the attrition resistance, were investigated. The reactivity tests for hot gas desulfurization was performed at middle temperatures (sulfidation/regeneration:480$^{\circ}C$/580$^{\circ}C$). During multi-cyclic desulfurization, the deactivation of zinc-based sorbent was decreased by the addition of yellow earth, and their efficiency was enhanced. The ZnO/yellow earth sorbent had high reactivity, good regenerability, long-term durability (about 19 gS/100 g sorbent for 10-cycles) and high attrition resistance (AI=19.1%). It was concluded that the peroperties of zinc-based sorbent were improved by metal oxides (Fe$_2$O$_3$, Na$_2$O, MnO$_2$, etc) in the yellow earth. From these results, it was confirmed that the desulfurization properties of zinc-based sorbents at middle temperatures could be improved by the yellow earth using as support.

In this work we have synthesized ZnS:Mn nanocrystals (NCs) using a simple one step thermochemical method. $Zn(NO_3)_2$ and $Na_2S_2O_3$ were used as the precursors and $Mn(NO_3)_2$ was the source of impurity. Thioglycolic acid (TGA) was used as the capping agent and the catalyst of the reaction. The structure and optical property of the NCs were characterized by means of X- ray diffraction (XRD), HRTEM, UV-visible optical spectroscopy and photoluminescence (PL). X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses demonstrated cubic phase ZnS:Mn NCs with an average size around 3 nm. Synthesized NCs exhibited band gap of about 4 eV. Photoluminescence spectra showed a yellow-orange emission with a peak located at 585 nm, demonstrating the Mn incorporation inside the ZnS particles.
Granitoids in the Younggwang-Kimje area can be divided into two types of granite. One is foliated granite (Cheongup and Kochang foliated granites) developed along the NE-SW direction kwangju fault system and the other is undeformed granite (Kimje and Younggwang granites) developed in the western part of the area. $SiO_2$ content of study area, Younggwang granite is 62.8-74.0%, Kochang foliated granite is 64.5-74.4%, Cheongup foliated granite is 64.5-70.2%, Kimje granite is 63.4-72.0%. The result indicated that these granitoids belong to the intermediate and acidic rock. In Harker's diagram, as $SiO_2$ increases, $Al_2O_3$, $Fe_2O_3$, MgO, CaO, $TiO_2$> $P_2O_{5}$s and MnO decrease, but $K_2O$ increases. In AFM diagram, Younggwang granite, Kochang foliated granite, Cheongup foliated granite and Kimje granite belong to calk-alkaline rock series. And in triangular diagrams of normative Qz-Or-Pl and An-Ab-Or, they are located in granodiorite and granite region. On the co-variation diagrams of trace elements with silica, Ba, Co, Li, Nb, An, Rb elements show increasing patterns. The diagrams of ACF and $Na_2O$ vs. $K_2O$ ratios indicate that granitoids of the study area belong to I-type.
Single crystals of Mn-Zn Ferrite were grown by slow cooling method using Na2B4O7 as flux agent. The effects of flux content and cooling rate on the types of crystals, and the relation between supersaturation and growth mechanism were studied. As a result, the types of grown crystals occurred as plate, hopper and octahedral crystals. The occurrence of these crystal types was dependent on flux content. The habit was found to correlate with the growth rate and supersaturation. The lateral growth of a dendritic crystal is related to the twin layer. The growth of crystals from borax melts mainly occurred by the layer-spreading growth following corner and edge nucleation caused by high supersaturation in the melt. Especially, the plate crystals were produced on top of the melts. The hopper and octahedral crystals occurred at lower supersaturation than the plate crystals.
