This paper presents the results of laboratory experimentals to remove $SO_2$ and $NO_x$ by a pulsed corona discharge in the wire-plate reactor. A rotating spark gap switch was used to generate the pulse by chewing the dc high voltage. Repetition frequency of the pulse was 60Hz and rising time of 50ns. The photo pictures of positive streamer corona taken by ICCD camera, pulse voltage and current were measured using a digital oscilloscope. Simultaneous effects of $C_{2}H_{4}$ injection and heterogeneous chemical reactions on nonthermal plasma process to remove $SO_2$ and $NO_x$ from flue gas were investigated in the present study

Single and few-layer graphene nanosheets (GNs) have successfully synthesized by a modified Hummer's method followed by chemical reduction of exfoliated graphene oxide (GO) in the presence of hydrazine monohydrate. GO and GNs were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffractions (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Atomic force microscopy (AFM), Optical microscopy (OM) and by electrical conductivity measurements. The result showed that electrical conductivity of GNs was significantly improved, from $4.2{\times}10^{-4}$ S/m for GO to 12 S/m for GNs, possibly due to the removal of oxygen-containing functional group during chemical reduction. In addition, the $NO_2$ gas sensing characteristics of GNs are also discussed.
Removal of Cr, Ni and Cu impurities on Si surfaces using remote plasma-excited hydrogen was investigated. Si surfaces were contaminated intentionally by acetone with low purity. To determine the optimum process condition, remote plasma-excited hydrogen cleaning was conducted for various rf-powers and plasma exposure times. After remote plasma-excited hydrogen cleaning, Si surfaces were analyzed by Total X-ray Reflection Fluorescence(TXRF), Surface Photovoltage(SPV) and Atomic Forece Microscope(AFM). The concentrations of Cr, Ni and Cu impurities were reduced and the minority carrier lifetime increased after remote plasma-excited hydrogen. Also RMS roughness decreased by more than 30% after remote plasma-excited hydrogen cleaning. AFM analysis results also show that remote plasma-excited hydrogen cleaning causes no damage to the Si surface. TXRF analysis results show that remote plasma-excited hydrogen cleaning is effective in eliminating metallic impurities from Si surface only if it is performed under an optimum process conditions. The removal mechanism of the Cr, Ni and Cu impurities using remote plasma-excited hydrogen treatments is proposed to be the lift-off during removal of underlying chemical oxides.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate adaptability of external carbon source using GPS-X program in pilot plant composed with 2-stage denitrification process. The result from analysis of pilot plant operation and GPS-X simulation showed that effluent concentration could be simulated similarly by modifying operation conditions, such as DO concentration, C/N ratio and other calibrated parameter. In order to satisfy the standard of the effluent water quality on T-N of 20mg/L, it required approximately 3.1 of C/N ratio and 50% of nitrogen removal efficiency when influent T-N is 36.9mg/L. To maintain the stable water quality of the receiving water, the effluent T-N concentration should be less than 10-15mg/L and the appropriate C/N ratio to remove nitrogen was 4.27-6.82. The analysis of sensitivity to kinetic coefficient and reaction constant showed that $Y_H$ and ${\mu}_{mAUT}$ were most sensitive to nitrate and ammonia nitrogen, relatively and sensitivity coefficient of their were 1.32, 1.98. It was concluded that as $Y_H$ decreased and ${\mu}_{mAUT}$ increased, the reaction rates of denitrification and nitrification increased and the removal efficiencies of $NO_3{^-}-N$ and $NH_4{^+}-N$ improved.
CuCl2-loaded V2O5-WO3/TiO2 catalyst showed excellent activity in the catalytic oxidation of elemental mercury to oxidized mercury even under SCR condition in the presence of NH3, which is well known to significantly inhibit the oxidation activity of elemental mercury by HCl. Moreover, it was confirmed that, when SO2 was present in the reaction gas together with HCl, excellent elemental mercury oxidation activity was maintained even though CuCl2 supported on the catalyst surface was converted to CuSO4. This is thought to be because not only HCl but also the SO4 component generated on the catalyst surface promotes the oxidation of elemental mercury. However, in the presence of SO2, the total mercury balance before and after the catalytic reaction was not matched, especially as the concentration of SO2 increased. In order to understand the cause of this, further studies are needed to investigate the effect of SO2 in the SnCl2 aqueous solution employed for mercury species analysis and the effect of sulfate ions generated on elemental mercury oxidation. It was confirmed that SO2 also promotes NOx removal activity, which is thought to be because the increase in acid sites by SO4 generated on the catalyst surface by SO2 facilitates NH3 adsorption. The composition change and structure of the components present on the catalyst surface under various reaction conditions were measured by XRD and XRF. These measurement results were presented as a rational explanation for the results that SO2 enhances the oxidation activity of elemental mercury and the NOx removal activity in this catalyst system.
Design data for COD and nitrogen removal from wastewater were collected from Pilot's Multi-stage Bio-reactor. Hyraulic conditions and pollutant loadings were varied in order to optimize the biological and operational parameters. Pilot's experimental results summarize as followings. 1. T-N removal efficiency in the organic volumetric loading 0.2 kgCOD/m$^{3}$·d was obtained as maxium of 85% at internal recycle ratio 2.5 and in more ratio than this it was decreased. Organic removal efficiency was about 91% under the overall experimental conditions and not influenced by recycle ratio.. 2. Nitrification reaction was shown as maxium in the SCOD$_{cr}$/NH$^{+}$-N ratio of 6.5 and in more ratio than this it was decreased. Denitrification rate was the maxium as 85% in more than 7.5 of SCOD$_{cr}$/NO$_{x}$-N ratio and in the ratio over this ratio it becomes constant. 3. By utilizing an applied new model of Stover-Kincannon from Monod's kinetic model, concentration of T-N in the effluent according to flow quanity in the influent was estimated as 8.74 and -67.5 respectively. The formula for estimating T-N concentration of effluent was obtained like this: N$_e$=N$_0$(1- $\frac{8.74}{(QN$_0$/A)-67.05}$)

Photochemical characteristics of ozone ($O_3$) and its precursors such as $O_3$ budget and $O_3-NO_x$-VOC sensitivity were analyzed in different physico-chemical properties of air masses around the Mexico City Metropolitan Area (MCMA) using aircraft observations during March 2006. The physico-chemical properties of air masses were categorized into 5 groups: boundary layer (BL), biomass burning (BB), free tropospheric continent (FTCO) and marine (FTMA), and Tula industrial complex (TIC). Results from the $O_3$ budget analysis indicated that $O_3$ production for BL, FTCO, and FTMA (for BB and TIC) was mainly controlled by a photochemical production pathway, a reaction of NO with $HO_2$ (with $RO_2$), while the main pathway of photochemical $O_3$ destruction for BL, FTCO, and FTMA (for BB and TIC) was a reaction of $HO_2$ with $O_3$ (of $H_2$ with $O^1$(D)). In addition, most of air mass categories (especially FTCO) were estimated to be $NO_x$-sensitive for $O_3$ production with lower $NO_y$, higher ratios of the other indicator species (e.g., $O_3/(NO_y-NO_x$), $H_2O_2/HNO_3$, etc.), and the lower removal rate of radicals ($\leq$0.5) by the reaction of OH with $NO_2$ than those of the VOC-sensitive condition.
Two catalyst systems with different content of precious metal coated on DOC are carefully tested in a diesel engine to investigate the emission characteristics of $NO_2$. Three types of experiment methods ($NO_2$ conversion test, ETC mode test, and BPT test) are applied to compare the performance of the two catalyst systems. All the experimental results consistently indicate that it is possible to satisfy $NO_x$ regulation by properly lowering the content of precious metal without the loss of PM removal performance.

The effects of intake mixture temperature on performance and exhaust emissions under four kinds of engine loads were experimentally investigated by using a four-cycle, four-cylinder, swirl chamber type, water-cooled diesel engine with scrubber EGR system operating at three kinds of engine speeds. The purpose of this study is to develop the scrubber exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) control system for reducing $NO_x$ and soot emissions simultaneously in diesel engines. The EGR system is used to reduce $NO_x$ emissions. And a novel diesel soot-removal device of cylinder-type scrubber with five water injection nozzles is specially designed and manufactured to reduce soot contents in the recirculated exhaust gas to the intake system of the engine. The influences of cooled EGR and water injection, however, would be included within those of scrubber EGR system. In order to survey the effect of intake mixture temperature on performance and exhaust emissions, the intake mixtures of fresh air and recirculated exhaust gas are heated by a heating device with five heating coils made of a steel drum. It is found that the specific fuel consumption rate is considerably elevated by the increase of intake mixture temperature, and that $NO_x$ emissions are markedly decreased as EGR rates are increased and intake mixture temperature is dropped, while soot emissions are increased with increasing EGR rates and intake mixture temperature. Thus one can conclude that the performance and exhaust emissions are considerably influenced by the cooled EGR.

Conventional deodorization filters using soil and compost reach the capacity limitation of deodorization in short period, because its removal mechanism primarily depends on adsorption. Therefore, in this study the experiment was performed on the removal of ammonia which is a strong inorganic malodor, frequently emitted from night soil treatment plants and sewage treatment plants, by seeding activated sludges on the bio-peat containing higher organic contents, water conservation capacity, permeability and lower pressure drop. As a result, in raw peat filter natural ammonia outlet was observed in consequence of pH increase resulted from ammonia ionizing in liquid phase. Ammonia removal mechanism primarily depended on the adsorption onto the anion colloidal substances in peat. In peat bio-filter, theoretical ammonium salts ratio was higher than that of raw peat, resulted from slight pH increase by microorganism activity, however, the experimetal value of ammonia-nitrogen accumulated in bio-peat was lower than that of raw peat because of nitrification by nitrifying bacteria. In the initial reaction period, adsorption was predominant in the ammonia removal mechanism, but nitrification was conspicuous after the middle period. Mass balance of nitrogen was established using experimental data of input $NH_3$ loading, output $NH_3$ loading, $NH_4{^+}$-N, $NO_x$-N, and Org-N. The critical time of unsteady state, which is the maximum activating point of microorganism in bio-filter, was determined using experimental data, and the ammonia adsorption curve was computed using regression analysis. On the basis of the results obtained by above analysis, the delay days for the saturation of adsoption capacity in peat bio-filter was calculated.
