NiO supported on zirconia modified with $MoO_3$ for acid catalysis was prepared by drying powdered $Ni(OH)_2-Zr(OH)_4$ with ammonium heptamolybdate aqueous solution, followed by calcining in air at high temperature. The characterization of prepared catalysts was performed using FTIR, Raman, XRD, and DSC. $MoO_3$ equal to or less than 15 wt% was dispersed on the surface of catalyst as two-dimensional polymolybdate or monomolybdate, while for $MoO_3$ above 15 wt%, crystalline orthorhombic phase of $MoO_3$ was formed, showing that the critical dispersion capacity of $MoO_3$ on the surface of catalyst is 0.18 g/g NiO-$ZrO_2$ on the basis of XRD analysis. Acidity and catalytic activities for acid catalysis increased with the amount of dispersed $MoO_3$. The high acid strength and acidity was responsible for the Mo=O bond nature of the complex formed by the interaction between $MoO_3$ and $ZrO_2$. The catalytic activity for acid catalysis was correlated with the acidity of the catalysts measured by the ammonia chemisorption method.

A series of $MoO_3/CeO_2-ZrO_2$ catalysts with different Mo content (8 - 20 wt %) were prepared by simple co-precipitation followed by impregnation method and were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopic (EDS) techniques. The prepared materials were tested for catalytic activity by the synthesis of benzimidazole derivatives using condensation of aromatic aldehydes and o-phenylenediamine by conventional and microwave method. Obtained results reveal that the catalytic activity increases with increase in Mo wt % loading. The best catalytic activity was obtained with 20 wt % $MoO_3/CeO_2-ZrO_2$. The particle size or crystallite size was estimated using Debye-Scherrer equation. After completion of reaction, the catalyst can be recovered efficiently and reused with consistent activity.
Zirconia modified with $MoO_3$ was prepared by impregnation of powdered $Zr(OH)_4$ with ammonium heptamolybdate aqueous solution followed by calcining in air at high temperature. Spectroscopic studies on prepared catalysts were performed by using FTIR, Raman, XRD, and DSC and by measuring surface area. Upon the addition of molybdenum oxide to zirconia up to 15 wt%, the specific surface area increased in proportion to the molybdate oxide content, while acidity measured by irreversible chemisorption of ammonia exhibited a maximum value at 3 wt% of $MoO_3$. Since the $ZrO_2$ stabilizes the molybdenum oxide species, for the samples equal to or less than 30 wt%, molybdenum oxide was well dispersed on the surface of zirconia and no phase of crystalline $MoO_3$ was observed at any calcination temperature above $400^{\circ}C$. The catalytic activities for cumene dealkylation were roughly correlated with the acidity of catalysts measured by ammonia chemisorption method, while the catalytic activities for 2-propanol dehydration were not correlated with the acidity because weak acid sites are necessary for the reaction.
Solid acid Mo(VI)/$ZrO_2$ with 2-10% Mo(VI) was coated on honeycomb monoliths by impregnation method. These catalytic materials were characterized by BET, $NH_3$-TPD/n-butylamine back titration, PXRD and SEM techniques. Phenyl salicylate (Salol) was synthesized via transesterification of methyl salicylate and phenol over these catalytic materials. An excellent yield (91.0%) of salol was obtained under specific reaction conditions. The effect of poisoning of acid sites of the catalytic material by adsorbing different bases and its effect on total surface acidity, powder XRD phases and catalytic activity was studied. A triangular correlation between the surface acidity, powder XRD phases and catalytic activity of Mo(VI)/$ZrO_2$ was observed. The thermally regenerated catalytic material was reused repeatedly with a consistent high yield of salol.
Performance tests on $Ni/Ce-ZrO_2/Al_2O_3$ catalysts with additives (MgO, $La_2O_3$) were investigated in the combined reforming processes (SCR, ATR, TRM) in order to produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide (it is called "syngas".). The catalyst characterization was conducted using the BET surface analyzer, X-ray diffraction (XRD), SEM, TPR and TGA. The combined reforming process was developed to adjust the syngas ratio depending on the synthetic fuel (methanol, DME and GTL) manufacturing processes. Ni-based catalysts supported on alumina has been generally recommended as a combined reforming reaction catalyst. It was found that both free NiO and complexed NiO species were responsible for the catalytic activity in the combined reforming of methane conversion, and the $Ce-ZrO_2$ binary support employed had improved the oxygen storage capacity and thermal stability. The additives, MgO and $La_2O_3$, also seemed to play an important role to prevent the formation of the carbon deposition over the catalysts. The experimental results were compared with the equilibrium data using a commercial simulation tool (PRO/II).

In this study the effects of adding alkaline-earth (IIA) metal oxides to NiZr-loaded Zeolite Y catalysts were investigated on hydrogen rich production by ethanol steam reforming (ESR). Four kinds of alkaline-earth metal (Mg, Ca, Sr, or Ba) oxides of 3.0% by weight were loaded between the $Ni_6Zr_4O_{14}$ main catalytic species and the microporous Zeolite Y support. The characterizations of these catalysts were examined by XRD, TEM, $H_2$-TPR, $NH_3$-TPD, and XPS. Catalytic performances during ESR were found to depend on the basicity of the added alkaline-earth metal oxides and $H_2$ production and ethanol conversion were maximized to 82% and 98% respectively in 27($Ni_6Zr_4O_{14}$)3MgO/70Zeolite Y catalyst at $600^{\circ}C$. Many carbon deposits and carbon nano fibers were seen on the surface of $30Ni_6Zr_4O_{14}$/70Zeolite Y catalyst but lesser amounts were observed on alkaline-earth metal oxide-loaded 27($Ni_6Zr_4O_{14}$)3MO/70Zeolite Y catalysts in TEM photos after ESR. This study demonstrates that hydrogen yields from ESR are closely related to the acidities of catalysts and that alkaline-earth metal oxides reduce the acidities of 27($Ni_6Zr_4O_{14}$)3MO/70Zeolite Y catalysts and promote hydrogen evolution by preventing progression to hydrocarbons.
The methane reforming with $CO_2$ and steam for manufacture of synthesis gas over $Ni/ZrO_2$ catalyst was investigated. Mixed reforming carried out $CO_2$ dry reforming with $O_2$ and steam for development of DME process in pilot plant. To improve a catalyst deactivation by coke formation, the mixed reforming added carbon dioxide and steam as a oxidizer of the methane reforming was suggested. The result of experiments over commercial catalyst in $CO_2$ dry reforming has shown that the catalyst activity decrease rapidly after 20 hours. In case of $NiO-MgO/Al_2O_3$ catalyst, the deactivation of 20 percent after 30 hours was occurred. The activity of Ni/C catalyst still was not decreased dramatically after 100 hours. The effect of $H_2$ reforming with steam over $Ni/CO_2$ catalyst obtained the optimal conversion of methane and carbon dioxide, and could be produced synthesis gas at ratio of $H_2/CO$ under 1.5.
This work reviews the effects of catalyst formulation and exhaust gas composition on soot oxidation in CDPF (Catalytic Diesel Particulate Filter). DOC's (Diesel Oxidation Catalysts) have been loaded with Pt catalyst (Pt/$Al_{2}O_3$) for reduction of HC and CO. Recent CDPF's are coated with the Pt catalyst as well as additives like Mo, V, Ce, Co, Fe, La, Au, or Zr for the promotion of soot oxidation. Alkali (K, Na, Cs, Li) doping of metal catalyst tends to increase the activity of the catalysts in soot combustion. Effects of coexistence components are very important in the catalytic reaction of the soot. The soot oxidation rate of a few catalysts are improved by water vapor and NOx in the ambient. There are only a few reports available on the mechanism of the PM (particulate matter) oxidation on the catalysts. The mechanism of PM oxidation in the catalytic systems that meet new emission regulations of diesel engines has yet to be investigated. Future research will focus on catalysts that can not only oxidize PM at low temperature, but also reduce NOx, continuously self-cleaning diesel particulate filters, and selective catalysts for NOx reduction.
