$TiO_2$ 첨가에 따른 $Mg_4Ta_2O_9$ 세라믹스의 마이크로파 유전특성과 유전체 공진기 거동에 관한 연구 (Study on the Microwave Dielectric Properties and Dielectric Resonator Performance of the $Mg_4Ta_2O_9$ Ceramics with $TiO_2$ Addition)

  • The $(1-x)Mg_4Ta_2O_9-xwt%TiO_2\;(x=5\sim20)$ microwave dielectric ceramics were prepared by solid-state reaction method and sintered at $1450^{\circ}C$. According to the X-ray diffraction data, the $Mg_4Ta_2O_9-xwt%TiO_2$ ceramics had main phase of $Mg_4Ta_2O_9$ and $MgTi_2O_5$ peaks were added by increasing of $TiO_2$ addition. Microwave dielectric properties of the $Mg_4Ta_2O_9-xwt%TiO_2$ ceramics were influenced by $MgTi_2O_5$ phase and properties of $TiO_2$. There was a little decrement of the quality factor from 116,800GHz of pure $Mg_4Ta_2O_9$ to 100,100GHz of 15wt% $TiO_2$ added one. But there was excellent improvement in temperature coefficient of the resonant frequency (TCRF) by addition of 15wt% $TiO_2$. The dielectric constant quality factor and TCRF of the $Mg_4Ta_2O_9-xwt%TiO_2$ ceramics sintered at $1450^{\circ}C$ were $13.08\sim16.41,\;45,000\sim165,410GHz,\;-24.82\sim+3.88ppm/^{\circ}C$, respectively, depending on the value of x. Simulated dielectric resonator (DR) with $Mg_4Ta_2O_9-15wt%TiO_2$ ceramics had the operating frequency of 11.97GHz and $S_{2,1}$ of -35.034dB.

  • The microwave dielectric properties of $0.6Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.4TiO_2$ ceramics were investigated. All sample of $0.6Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.4TiO_2$ ceramics were prepared by the conventional mixed oxide method, and sintered in the temperature of $1350^{\circ}C{\sim}1450^{\circ}C$. The structural properties of $0.6Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.4TiO_2$ ceramics were investigated by the X-ray diffraction meter. According to the X-ray diffraction patterns of $0.6Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.4TiO_2$ ceramics, the major phase of the hexagonal $0.6Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.4TiO_2$ were presented, In the case of $0.6Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.4TiO_2$ ceramics sintered at $1400^{\circ}C$ for 5hr., the dielectric constant, quality factor and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency were 12.19, 109.411GHz, -17.21ppm/$^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • The microwave dielectric properties and microstructure of the (1-x)$Mg_4Ta_2O_{9-x}TiO_2$(X=0, 0.3, 0.4) ceramic were, investigated. The specimens were prepared by the conventional mixed oxide method with sintering temperature of $1350^{\circ}C$$1425^{\circ}C$. According to the XRD patterns, the (1-x)$Mg_4Ta_2O_{9-x}TiO_2$(X=0, 0.3, 0.4) ceramics have the $Mg_4Ta_2O_{9}$ phase(hexagonal). The dielectric constant($\varepsilon$$_{\gamma}$) and density increased with sintering temperature and mole fraction of x. To improve the quality factor and the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency, TiO$_2$($\varepsilon_{r}$=100, $Q{\times}f_{r}$=40,000GHz, $\tau$$_{f}$=+450 ppm/$^{\circ}C$) was added in $Mg_4Ta_2O_{9}$ ceramics. In the case of the $0.7Mg_4Ta_2O_{9}$-$0.3TiO_2$ and the $0.6Mg_4Ta_2O_{9}$-$0.4TiO_2$ceramics sintered at $1400^{\circ}C$ for 5hr., the microwave dielectric properties were $\varepsilon$$_{\gamma}$=11.72, $Q{\times}f_{r}$=126,419GHz, $\tau_{f}$=-31.82 ppm/$^{\circ}C$ and $\varepsilon_{r}$=12.19, $Q{\times}f_{r}$=109,411GHZ, $\tau$$_{f}$= -17.21 ppm/$^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • The microstructure and microwave dielectric properties of $(1-x){Mg}_4{Ta}_2{O}_9-xTi{O}_2(x=0\sim0.9)$ ceramics were investigated. The specimens were prepared by the conventional mixed oxide method with sintering temperature of 140$0^{\circ}C$∼150$0^{\circ}C$. To improve the quality factor and the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency,$ Ti{O}_2(\varepsilon\Gamma=100, Q\times f_\Gamma=40,000 GHz,\ta_f= +450 ppm\diagup^{\circ}C $ was added in ${Mg}_4{Ta}_2{O}_9$ceramics. The dielectric and structural properties were investigated. According to the XRD patterns, $(1-x){Mg}_4{Ta}_2{O}_9-xTi{O}_2(x=0\sim0.9)$ ceramics had the ${Mg}_4{Ta}_2{O}_9$ phase(hexagonal) and ${MgTi}_2{O}_5$phase(orthorhombic). The dielectric constant($\varepsilon_r$). quality($Qtimes{f}_r$${\tau}_f$) of the $(1-x){Mg}_4{Ta}_2{O}_9-xTi{O}_2(x=0\sim0.9)$ ceramics were 8.12∼18.59, 18,750∼186,410 GHz and -36.02∼+3.46 ppm/$^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • The microwave dielectric properties of the $0.8Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.2CaTiO_3$ ceramics with sintering temperature were investigated. All the sample of the $0.8Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.2CaTiO_3$ ceramics prepared by conventional mixed oxide method and sintered at $1400^{\circ}C-1450^{\circ}C$. According to X-ray diffraction patterns of the $0.8Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.2CaTiO_3$ ceramics, major phase of the hexagonal $Mg_4Ta_2O_9$ phase were showed. Porosity of the $0.8Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.2CaTiO_3$ ceramics were reduced with increasing sintering temperature, but the bulk density was increased. In the case of $0.8Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.2CaTiO_3$ ceramics sintered at $1425^{\circ}C$, dielectric constant, quality factor and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency(TCRF) were 13.69, 63,754GHz and -29.37 $ppm/^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • The microwave dielectric properties of $0.7Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.3TiO_2$ ceramics were investigated. All samples were prepared by the conventional mixed oxide method. The structural properties were investigated with sintering temperature by X-ray Diffractor meter. According to. the X-ray diffraction patterns of the $0.7Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.3TiO_2$ ceramics, major phase of the hexagonal $Mg_4Ta_2O_9$ were appeared. In the case of $0.7Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.3TiO_2$ ceramics sintered at $1400^{\circ}C$, dielectric constant, quality factor and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency were 11.72, 126,419GHz, $-31.82ppm/^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • The structural and microwave dielectric properties of $0.7Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.3SrTiO_3$ ceramics with sintering temperature were investigated. All the sample of the $0.7Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.3SrTiO_3$ ceramics were prepared by conventional miked oxide method and the sintering temperature was $1425\~1500^{\circ}C$. The hexagonal phase of $Mg_4Ta_2O_9$ and the cubic phase of $SrTiO_3$ were coexisted. The porosity of $0.7Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.3SrTiO_3$ ceramics were reduced with increasing sintering temperature. In the case of $0.7Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.3SrTiO_3$ ceramics sintered at $1475^{\circ}C$, dielectric constant, quality factor and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency were 14.51, 82,596 GHz and $-3.14\;ppm/^{\circ}C$, respectively.

Formation Mechanism of Intermediate Phase in $Ba(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$ Microwave Dielectrics

  • Kinetics and mechanisms of intermediate phases formation in $Ba(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$, obtained by a solid state reaction were studied. $Ba{Ta_2}{O_6}$ and ${Ba_4}{Ta_2}{O_9}$ as intermediate products were first formed at $700^{\circ}C$. $Ba(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$ was appeared at $800^{\circ}C$. Several reactions take place on heating process. $Ba{Ta_2}{O_6}$ is found at the first stage of the reaction, and then $Ba{Ta_2}{O_6}$ or ${Ba_4}{Ta_2}{O_9}$ react with MgO to form $Ba(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$. The reaction of $Ba(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$ formation does not complete until fired at $1350^{\circ}C$ for 60 min. The kinetics of solid-state reaction between powdered reactants was controlled by diffusion mechanism, and can be explained by the Jander's model for three-dimensional diffusion.

  • The effect of x on microwave dielectric properties of the $(1-x)Mg_4Ta_2O_9-x(TiO_2,\;CaTiO_3,\;SrTiO_3)$ ceramics for microwave components were investigated. All spcecimens prepared by the conventional mixed oxied method and sintered at $1450^{\circ}C$. Microwave dielectric properties of the $(1-x)Mg_4Ta_2O_9-xTiO_2$ ceramics were influenced by $MgTi_2O_5$ phase. Also the microwave dielectric properties of the $(1-x)Mg_4Ta_2O_9-x(TiO_2,\;CaTiO_3,\;SrTiO_3)$ ceramics were dominated with an addition of $CaTiO_3\;and\;SrTiO_3$. The dielectric constant $(\varepsilon_r)$, quality factor $(Q{\times}f_r)$ and temperature coefficient of the resonant frequency $(TCRF,\;\tau_f)$ of the $(1-x)Mg_4Ta_2O_9-x(TiO_2,\;CaTiO_3,\;SrTiO_3)$ ceramics were $12.96\sim70.98,\;5,132\sim186,410GHZ$ and $-35.82\sim+75.96ppm/^{\circ}C$, respectively, and depend on x and addition materials.
