Effect of Conductive Additives on the Structural and Electrochemical Properties of Li4Ti5O12 Spinel

  • The effect of a conductive agent on the structural and electrochemical properties of $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$(LTO) spinel was investigated through neutron diffraction during Li intercalation and electrochemical measurements. The charging process of LTO is known as transformation of the white $(Li_3)_{8a}[LiTi_5]_{16d}O_{12}$ into a dark-colored $(Li_{3-X})_{8a}[Li_{X+Y}]_{16c}[LiTi_5]_{16d}O_{12}$ by incorporating the inserted Li into octahedral 16c sites, and the Li in tetrahedral 8a sites shifted to 16c sites. The occupancy of the tetrahedral 8a site varied with the existence of carbon in the electrode. Without carbon, the lattice parameter and cell volume of LTO decreased more notably than in the carbon-containing LTO electrode during Li insertion process. These phenomena might be attributed that the Li occupancy of the tetrahedral 8a of the LTO electrode without carbon was less than that of the carbon-containing LTO electrode.

  • 인산염계 Li$_2$O.CaO.Ti $O_2$.P$_2$ $O_{5}$ 조성을 기본으로 하여 다공성 글래스 세라믹스를 제조하였으며, 제조된 모유리는 최적 핵 형성을 위해 61$0^{\circ}C$, 최고 결정성장을 위해 78$0^{\circ}C$에서 열처리하였다. 연속적으로 1N-HCl에 3일간 담지함으로써 $\beta$-Ca$_3$(PO)$_4$결정상만을 선택적으로 용출하였으며 Li $Ti_2$(P $O_4$)$_3$골격구조를 갖는 다공성 glass ceramics를 제조하였다. 1M-농도의 AgN $O_3$수용액에 2일간 담지함으로써 Li$^{+}$ 이온을 Ag$^{+}$ 이온으로 이온교환 하였으며, 그에 따른 항균효과 및 특성을 평가하였다. 항균 특성평가를 위해서는 staphylococus aureus와 salmonella typhi균을 사용하였으며, 시편 첨가 후 staphylococcus aureus 균주에 대해서는 6시간 이후에 salmonella typhi 균주에 대해서는 3시간 이후에 모든 균이 소멸되는 것으로 관찰되었다.

The Structure Determination of La2/3-xLi3x1/3-2xTiO3 by the Powder Neutron and X-ray Diffraction

  • La/sub 2/3-x/Li/sub 3x/□/sub 1/3-2x/TiO₃ compounds with x=0.13 and 0.12 were prepared by slow cooling (x=0.13) and rapid quenching (x=0.12) into the liquid nitrogen after sintering at 1350℃ for 6 h. Their crystal structure has been determined by Rietveld refinement of both the powder neutron and X-ray diffraction data. From neutron diffraction data, we found that the main phase was not tetragonal (P4/mmm), but trigonal (R3cH). The refinement of neutron diffraction for the slow cooled samples were in a good agreement with a new model; a mixture of trigonal (R3cH, 45.7 wt%), tetragonal (p4/mmm, 37.0 wt%), and Li/sub 0.57/Ti/sub 0.86/O₂(pbnm, 17.2 wt%), but the quenched sample was found not to contain tetragonal (p4/mmm). X-ray diffraction data couldn't be well fitted because of the Poor scattering factor of lithium ions and the similar reflection patterns among trigonal (R3cH), tetragonal (p4/mmm), and cubic (Pm3m). We also knew that one transport bottlenecks is destroyed by one La vacancy in the case of trigonal (R3cH).

박막 고체전지 개발에 관한 연구 (A study on the development of thin solid state batteries)

  • This research is aimed at developing(110) preferred TiS2 cathode films and glass typed solid electro-lytes which have high ionic migrations and low electron conductivities for thin secondary solid batteries. To obtain preferred oriented TiS2 thin films on a substrate by CVD method using TiCl4 and H2S gases three factors of heating temperature, inner pressure of furnace and TiCl4/H2S gas mole fraction were ex-amined systematically. To obtain solid films of Li2O-B2O3-SiO2 electrolytes by r.f. sputtering for thin proto-type batteries of Li/Li2O-B2O3-SiO2TiS2, sputtering conditions were examined. TiS2 cathode films showed columnar structure, namely c axis oriented parallely. At low pressure of reaction chamber and low heating temperature, surface of smooth TiS2 films couldd be obtained. Ionic conductivity of Li2O-B2O3-SiO2 films manufactured by r.f. magnetron sputtering were 3$\times$10-7$\Omega$-1cm-1 and electron conductivities were 10-11$\Omega$-1cm-1. Open cell voltage of thin lithium batteries were 2.32V with a designed prototype cell.

  • We have investigated the guided optical properties of a Ti:LiNbO$_3$optical waveguide which was fabricated by Ti-diffusion in an air atmosphere and proposed an effective polishing method of waveguide endfaces. And the results of guided optical mode and fabrication condition were obtained as follows; \circled1 propagation loss : 0.53 dB/cm \circled2 mode size : horizontal/vertical=12.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ \circled3 mode mismatch : 1.7 dB \circled4 diffusion temperature : 105$0^{\circ}C$, time : 8 hours \circled5 atmosphere : air

  • Ti:LiNbO$_3$ 광도파로위에 CPW 전극 구조를한 광변조기 내부칩을 제작한 후 일련공정에 따라 패키징 작업을 하였고 소자의 전기적특성과 광학적특성을 측정하였다. 광변조기 패키징을 위하여 페룰, 보조용 LN블럭 및 글래스, 진동 및 흡수용패드, 알루미나피더의 부분품을 사용하였으며 피그테일링, Au 와이어본딩, 에폭싱, SMA커넥팅, 실링 작업을 수행하였다. 전기적 특성에서 S/sub 21/은 -3 dB 점에서 9.8GHz의 값을, S/sub 11/은 14.4 GHz 대에서 -8.9 dB 값을 나타내었다. 광학적 특성은 제작된 광도파로가 1550nm 파장대에서 단일모드를 만족하였고, 패키지후 소자의 삽입손실은 실온에서 4.3 dB 이였으며, 소자를 온도감압챔버에 넣은후 5∼45℃까지 온도변화를 주었을 때 4.3∼6.4 dB의 삽입손실을 보였다. E-O bandwidth 응답은 3dB점에서 7.8GHz를 나타내어 10Gbps급 광통신시스템에 응용할수 있음을 확인하였다.

  • Glass ceramics composed of (5-X)$Li_2O$$XAg_2O$ㆍ36CaOㆍ$20TiO_2$.27$P_2O_5$(X=1 to 5) were prepared by melting process and 2 step heat treatment for nucleation at$610^{\circ}C$ and crystallization at $730^{\circ}C$, Fabricated crystal phases were $LiTi_2(PO_4)_3$(LTP),$AgTi_2(PO_4)_3$(AgTP)와 $\beta-Ca_3(PO_4)$. Antibacterial effects and characterizations of the glass ceramics as $Ag_2$O content were investigated. Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhi were used in this study. Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhi bacteria were removed 5 hours added after glass ceramics.

  • This study introduces a systematic approach to selecting the internal parameters applied to the equivalent electrical-circuit model (EECM) of a lithium titanium oxide ($Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$; LTO) rechargeable cell. Based on the dynamic characteristic of the cell, a simplified EECM consisting of an open-circuit voltage (OCV), an ohmic resistance, and an RC ladder is fabricated. To select the internal parameters of a simplified EECM, experiments on discharge capacity, OCV, and discharge/charge resistances are performed using hybrid pulse power characterization and direct current internal resistance (DCIR) measurements over the full state-of-charge (SOC) range. The experimental results of the LTO rechargeable cell highlight the importance of correct selection of internal parameters that can reduce EECM errors. This study clearly provides experimental procedures, internal parameters results, and EECM guidelines for adaptive control-based SOC estimation for LTO rechargeable cells.

TiCl4를 출발원료로한 구형 Li4Ti5O12 분말합성 및 리튬이차 전지특성 (Electrochemical Properties of Lithium Secondary Battery and the Synthesis of Spherical Li4Ti5O12 Powder by Using TiCl4 As a Starting Material)

  • One of the greatest challenges for our society is providing powerful electrochemical energy conversion and storage devices. Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries and fuel cells are among the most promising candidates in terms of energy and power density. As the starting material, $TiCl_4{\cdot}YCl_3$ solution and dispersing agent (HCP) were mixed and synthesized using ammonia as the precipitation agent, in order to prepare the nano size Y doped spherical $TiO_2$ precursor. Then, the $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ was synthesized using solid state reaction method through the stoichiometric mixture of Y doped spherical $TiO_2$ precursor and LiOH. The Ti mole increased the concentration of the spherical particle size due to the addition of HPC with a similar particle size distribution in a well in which $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ spherical particles could be obtained. The optimal synthesis conditions and the molar ratio of the Ti 0.05 mol reaction at $50^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes and at $850^{\circ}C$ for 6 hours heat treatment time were optimized. $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ was prepared by the above conditions as a working electrode after generating the Coin cell; then, electrochemical properties were evaluated when the voltage range of 1.5V was flat, the initial capacity was 141 mAh/g, and cycle retention rate was 86%; also, redox reactions between 1.5 and 1.7V, which arose from the insertion and deintercalation of 0.005 mole of Y doping is not a case of doping because the C-rate characteristics were significantly better.

  • The preparation of mach-zehnder inteferometric optical modulator and the properties of electrode and modulation bandwidth for high speed optical communications were described. The results of fabricated optical modulator was that optical 3-dB bandwidth 4.7GHz, driving voltage 6V and fiber-waveguide-fiber insertion loss 4.5dB for TM mode respectively.
