Study on the reducibility of substituted $LaMnO_3$ (치환된 $LaMnO_3$의 환원반응성에 대한 연구)

  • $LaMnO_3$ and A site substituted $La_{0.9}Sr_{0.1}MnO_3$(a=$5.33\AA$, c=$13.27\AA$), B site substituted $LaMn_{0.9}Cu_{0.1}O_3$(a=$5.52\AA$, c=$13.31\AA$) mixed oxides were prepared by Citrate sol-gel method. The powder X-ray diffraction patterns of these oxides were indexed with single phase hexagonal perovskite structures. According to the TRR result, oxygen stoichiometry of these oxides were oxidative nonstoichiometry as like $LaMnO_{3.16}$, $La_{0.9}Sr_{0.1}MnO_{3.10}$ and $LaMn_{0.9}Cu_{0.1}O_{3.14}$ Reduction reactions of un-substituted $LaMnO_3$ was two steps, but specific site(A site of B site) partially substituted $LaMnO_3$ oxides were procees to three reactions.

The Effect of $LaMnO_3$ Addition on Sintering Phenomena and Electro-mechanical Properties of PZT ($LaMnO_3$ 의 첨가가 PZT의 소결현상 및 전기적 기계적 성질에 미치는 영향)

  • The sintering phenomena and piezoelectric properties of PZT ceramics of composition $Pb(Zr_{0.54} Ti_{0.46})O_3$ were investigated when a small quantity of $La_2O_3$ , $LaMnO_3$, $LaCrO_3$ were added. The unwanted chemical composition change in PZT during sinterin porces du to PbO evaporation poses a severe problem in PZt manufacturinig. It is observed tat an addition of small amount of $LaMnO_3$ to PZT markedly decreases the evaporation of PbO during sintering . The green compact of (1-x) PZT.xLaMnO3(x=0.02~0.10) could be sintered of under O2 atmosphere alone with no significant loss of PbO. The planar coupling factor kp of the sintered $0.98Pb(Zr_{0.54} Ti_{0.46})O_{3.0.02}LaMnO}3$ is similar to that of commercial PZT 6A. Microstructure investigation shows that part of sintering process of $Pb(Zr, Ti)O_3$.$LaMnO_3$ system progresses via liquid phase sintering. It is believed that the evaporation of PbO in PZT sintering is restricted by the addition of $LaMnO_3$ due to the above phenomena. Furthermore the solid solution of $LaMnO_3$ in PZT causes diffuses phase transition.

Synthesis of $PbLaTiO_{3}$: Mn powders by hydrothermal method

  • Synthesis of $PbLaTiO_{3}$ : Mn powders containing La and Mn was carried out using $PbO,\;TiO_{2},\;La_{2}O_{3}\;and\;MnO_{2}$ as starting materials by hydrothermal method. In the synthesis of single phase $PbLaTiO_{3}$ : Mn powder containing La and Mn, the optimal x value corresponding to La substitution was 0.01 which corresponds to $0.99(Pb_{1-x}La_{2x/3}TiO_{3})+0.01MnO_{2}$. The optimal conditions for the preparation of the powder synthesis were 8 M-KOH solvent of hydrothermal solvent, $270^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature and 24 hrs of run time. It was found that the synthesized powders had spherical morphology with average particle size of 70 nm and specific surface area of $5.5\;m^{2}/g$.

Reactivity and Preparation of Perovskite-Type Mixed Oxides LaBO3(B = Mn, Fe, Co) by Citrate Sol-Gel Method (Citrate Sol-Gel법에 의한 Perovskite형 복합 산화물 LaBO3(B = Mn, Fe, Co)의 생성 및 환원 반응성)

  • Perovskite-type mixed oxides LaBO$_3$(B = Mn, Fe, Co) were prepared by citrate sol-gel method in $air(850^{\circ}C$, 24h). The oxygen stoichiometries and structures of these oxides were determined by XRD and TPR results as followings; LaMnO$_{3.16}$(a = 5.507, c = 13.329 $\AA$, hexagonal), LaFeO$_{3.17}$(a = 5.554, b = 5.555, c = 7.863 $\AA$, orthorhomibic), LaCoO$_{3.0}$(a = 5.436, c = 13.095 $\AA$, hexagonal). The temperature programmed reduction(TPR) experiments in static 300 torr H$_2$ atmosphere shows that the reduction reaction of LaBO$_3$(B = Mn, Fe, Co) proceeds into two stages, and thermal stabilities of these oxides decreased in the order of LaMnO$_3$ > LaFeO$_3$ > LaCoO$_3$. According to the kinetic analysis the lowest activation energy was obtained for LaCoO$_3$.

  • Effects of doping rare earth element on Ln site of $Ln_{0.7}Ca_{0.3}MnO_3$ (Ln=Nd, Sm and La) were examined from sintering behavior, structure and magnetic properties. Sintering reactions proceeded rapidly in order of $La_{0.7}Ca_{0.3}MnO_3>Nd_{0.7}Ca_{0.3}MnO_3>Sm_{0.7}Ca_{0.3}MnO_3$. This result can be explained by diffusivity of metal cation. Size of a-axis increased as following order of La$Nd_{0.7}Ca_{0.3}MnO_3$, 93K for $Sm_{0.7}Ca_{0.3}MnO_3$ and 225K for $La_{0.7}Ca_{0.3}MnO_3$ were obtained. This result coincides with change of Mn-O bond length causing by a-axis lattice constant.

  • We have measured the x-ray photoemission spectroscopy of cation deficient La0.970Mn0.970O3 as a function of temperature. Detailed results on the chemical shifts and changes in Mn 2p and Lp 3d core levels due to variation of temperature have been obtained. The Mn 2p 3/2 and 1/2 main peaks and La 3d core spectrum shift to lower binding energy levels with increasing temperature. This XPS behavior is correlated with the strength of localization of Mn3+. The Jahn-Teller effect due to Mn3+ besides the conventional random potential effects is likely to localize charge carriers in La-.970Mn0.970O3.

High Temperature Electrical Conductivity of Perovskite La0.98Sr0.02MnO3 (페로프스카이트 $La_{0.98}Sr_{0.02}MnO_3$의 고온전기특성)

  • High temperature electrical conductivity was measured for perovskite La0.98Sr0.02MnO3 at 200~130$0^{\circ}C$ as a function of Po2 and 1/T. Perovskite La1-xSrxMnO3 system is the typical oxygen electrode in solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC). Acetate precursors were used for the preparation of mixed water solution and the calcined powders were reacted with Na2CO3 flux in order to obtain highly reactive powders of perovskite La0.98Sr0.02MnO3. The relative density was greatly increased above 90% because of the homogeneous sintering. From the conductivity ($\sigma$)-temperature and conductivity-Po2 at constant temperature, the defect structure of La0.98Sr0.02MnO3 was discussed. From the slope of 1n($\sigma$) vs 1/T, the activation energy of 0.069 and 0.108eV were evaluated for above 40$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. From the relationship between $\sigma$ and Po2, it was found that the decomposition of La0.98Sr0.02MnO3 was occurred at 10-15.5 atm(97$0^{\circ}C$) and 10-11 atm(125$0^{\circ}C$). It is supposed that the improvement of p-type conductivity may be leaded by the increase of Mn4+ concentration through the substitution of divalent/monovalent cations for La site in LaMnO3.

  • $>LaMnO_3$$(La, Sr)MO_3$, and $(La, Sr)MO_3/YSZ$ gel films were deposited by spin-coating technique on scandium-doped zirconia (YSZ) substrate using the precursor solution prepared from $La(O-i-C_3H_7)_3$, $Co(CH_3COO)_2$or $Mn(O-i-C_3H_7)_2$,2-methoxyethanol, and polyethylene glycol. By heat-treating the gel films, the electrochemical cells, $(La, Sr)MnO_3{\mid}ScSZ{\mid}Pt$ were fabricated. The effect of polyethylene glycol on the microstructure evolution of $$LaCoO_3and $LaMnO_3$thin films was investigated, and NOx decomposition characteristics of the electrochemical cells were investigated at $500^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$. By applying a direct current to the $(La, Sr)MnO_3{\mid}ScSZ{\mid}Pt$ electrochemical cell, good NOx conversion rate could be obtained relatively at low current value even if excess oxygen is included in the reaction gas mixture.

Effect of Co Dopant on the (La, Sr)$MnO_3$ Cathode for Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (고체산화물 연료전지용 (La, Sr)$MnO_3$ 양극에 대한 Co 첨가효과)

  • The effect of Co dopant on the (La, Sr)MnO3 cathode was investigated. La2Zr2O7 and SrZrO3 were formed as the reaction products between YSZ and LSMC. The reactivity of LSMC with YSZ increased with increasing Co content. However, the cathodic polarization resistance decreased with increasing Co doping. Therefore, doping Co at Mn site in the (La, Sr)MnO3 cathode was effective on controlling the polarization resistance of the cathode. The polarization property of LSMC-YSZ composite(60 wt%: 40 wt%) cathode was better than that of LSMC single cathode.

Dielectric and Magnetic Properties of BaTiO3-LaMnO3 Composites

  • We have investigated the dielectric and magnetic properties of ferroelectric-antiferromagnetic $BaTiO_{3}-LaMnO_{3}$ composite with changing relative mole percents. Due to high sintering temperature, i.e. $1150^{\circ}C$, the Ba ion in $BaTiO_{3}$ seems to diffuse into $LaMnO_{3}$; resulting in $BaTiO_{3}-(La,Ba)MnO_{3}$ ferroelectric-ferromagnetic composite. At room temperature, $0.9BaTiO_{3}-0.1LaMnO_{3}$ composite exhibits considerable magnetization (${\sim}0.7\;emu/g\;at\;2000\;Oe$) and low coercive field (${\sim}5\;Oe$). Also it exhibits high dielectric constant (${\sim}560$) and low loss (${\sim}0.08$) at 10 kHz. This result may imply that $BaTiO_{3}-LaMnO_{3}$ could be suitable for a low leakage multiferroic composite.
