Objective: An experiment was conducted to study the effect of a blend of essential oils (BEO) on enteric methane emission and growth performance of buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis). Methods: Twenty one growing male buffaloes (average body weight of $279{\pm}9.3kg$) were divided in to three groups. The animals of all the three groups were fed on a ration consisting of wheat straw and concentrate mixture targeting 500 g daily live weight gain. The three dietary groups were; Group 1, control without additive; Group 2 and 3, supplemented with BEO at 0.15 and 0.30 mL/kg of dry matter intake (DMI), respectively. Results: During six months feeding trial, the intake and digestibility of dry matter and nutrients (organic matter, crude protein, ether extract, neutral detergent fibre, and acid detergent fibre) were similar in all the groups. The average body weight gain was tended to improve (p = 0.084) in Group 2 and Group 3 as compared to control animals. Feeding of BEO did not affect feed conversion efficiency of the animals. The calves of all the three groups were in positive nitrogen balance with no difference in nitrogen metabolism. During respiration chamber studies the methane production (L/kg DMI and L/kg digestible dry matter intake was significantly (p<0.001) lower in Group 2 and Group 3 as compared to control animals. Conclusion: The results indicated that the BEO tested in the present study have shown potential to reduce enteric methane production without compromising the nutrient utilization and animal performance and could be further explored for its use as feed additive to mitigate enteric methane production in livestock.
Objectives This experimental study was designed to investigate the effects of Mulberry leaves contained herbal mixture (MLHM) on body weight, serum lipid level and adipocyte differentiation in high fat diet-fed obese mice. Methods Four-week old mice (wild-type C57/BL6) were used for all experiments. Cells were incubated with MLHM at the indicated concentration (0.04-4mg/ml) for 24h, and growth rate was assessed by MTT ((3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay. 3T3-L1 preadipocytes were incubated in DMEM for 2 days with the indicated concentrations of MLHM, and on Day 6, the cells were fixed and the cellular lipid contents were assessed by Oil-Red-O staining. The expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor ${\gamma}$ (PPAR ${\gamma}$) and cytidine-cytidine-adenosine-adenosine-thymine (CCAAT)/enhancer-binding proteins ${\alpha}$ (C/EBP ${\alpha}$) as adipocyte-specific proteins were determined by real time RT-PCR and western blotting. In addition, body weight gain and serum lipid levels were measured in the mice with obesity induced by the high fat-diet for four weeks. Results Though MLHM did not show toxicity even at the concentration of 4mg/ml, MLHM significantly inhibited the differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocites in a dose-dependent manner. Also, MLHM significantly reduced the expressions of PPAR ${\gamma}$ and C/EBP ${\alpha}$ in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, MLHM significantly reduced body weight gain and LDL-cholesterol contents in high fat diet-fed obese mice. Conclusions These results demonstrate that MLHM exerts anti-obesity effect in 3T3-L1 cells and mice with obesity by high-fat diet.

In this paper, we propose and analyze a concatenated coding scheme for DS/CDMA systems in asynchronous channels. In the concatenated coding, bandwidth efficient $2^{2L-2}$-state ${\frac{L}{L+1}}$-rate 2-MTCM with biorthogonal signal constellation is used for the inner code, and $(2^{L-1},\;{\lceil}\frac{2^{L-1}}{L/2}{\rceil})$ RS code is use for the outer code. It is shown that we can get considerable performance gain over the uncoded system without sacrificing the data transmission rate. The proposed system can be used as a coding scheme for reliable and high speed integrated information services of mobile communication systems.
The effect of Glutamate to myocardial toxicity induced by doxorubicin was studied with 20 male rats. 20 rats divided into 4 subgroups, 1st group was taken for normal control group without any treatment, 2nd group was injected with only doxorubicin, 3rd group was injected with L-glutamate and doxorubicin, and 4thd group was injected with only L-glutamate [all injections were done intraperitoneally]. Observations were made to each group on their gross findings, body weight, and electrocardiography, complete blood count and serum level of creatine phosphokinase. The results were as follows; l. In 1st group, we found no changes. 2. In 2nd group, there were many changes which were loss of body weight, dehydration, loss of body hair, diarrhea and death, in addition, elevation of CPK-MB isoenzyme and changes in EKG due to myocardial damage, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia were also found. 3. In 3rd group, there were more toxic effects containing 2 death cases, compared to 2nd group. 4. In 4th group, we found no specific changes except weight gain. These results suggest that L-glutamate which is intermediate of Krebs cycle may worsen the doxorubicin-induced myocardial toxicity.

In this paper, we have designed a multi-band single layer microstrip patch antenna with slots for GPS L2/L1, GLONASS receivers. The antenna has dual feed structure and consists of single layer microstrip patch with slots and impedance matching circuit. The antenna specifications are a VSWR(Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) of less than 2.0, RHCP(Right-Hand Circular Polarization) characteristics over the operating frequency bands of GPS L2(1,227.6 MHz)/L1(1,575.42 MHz) and GLONASS(1,602 MHz), the maximum active antenna gain of more than 30 dB and the axial ratio of less than 3 dB. The antenna has been successfully evaluated by various tests.
In this paper, we designed the bluetooth receiver using the microstrip bandpass filter and the high gain low noise amplifier with the 0.2$\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS technology. A cascode inverter is adopted to implement the low noise amplifier and is one stage amplifier with a voltage reference and without the choke inductor. The designed 2.4GHz LNA was achieved a power gain of 18dB, a noise figure of 2.8dB, and the power consumption of 255mW at 2.5V power supply. Also, the microstrip receiver bandpass filter was designed that the center frequency was 2.45GHz, the bandwidth was 4% and the insert attenuation was -1.9dB. When the microstrip bandpass filter and LNA was simulated together the power gain was 16.3dB.

We investigated the in vitro and in vivo anti-obesity effects of extracts from young Akebia quinata D. leaves, including hot water (AQH) and 80% ethanol (AQE) extracts. The inhibitory effects of AQH and AQE on lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1 cells were examined by Oil Red O staining. Compared to control, lipid accumulation was significantly reduced by 18.3% with the treatment upon AQE at a concentration of $5{\mu}g/mL$. The levels of intracellular triglycerides and free glycerol were also reduced by 52.8% and 9.1% at the same concentration of AQE. The in vivo anti-obesity effect of AQE was evaluated in terms of body and white adipose tissue weights in ICR mice. Experimental groups were divided into the following five groups: normal diet (ND), high fat diet (HFD), high fat diet with 60 mg/kg/day of Orlistat (HFD-RF), high fat diet with 200 mg/kg/day of AQE (HFD-AL), and high fat diet with 600 mg/kg/day of AQE (HFD-AH). Feeding of HFD for eight weeks resulted in significant increases in body weight as well as weight gain compared to the ND group. HFD-AH group showed reduced body weight, weight gain, epididymal white adipose tissue weight, and perirenal white adipose weight as compared to the HFD group. These results indicate that AQE supplementation might have beneficial effects on anti-obesity by inhibiting lipid accumulation.
The effect of hemicellulose extracted from Shiitake mushroom(Lentinus edodes) on the level of blood sugar and cholesterol in the diabetes-induced rat by streptozotocin(STZ) was investigated. The yield of hemicellulose by extraction process of 5% salt extraction, preparation of alcohol insoluble substance, IN KOH extraction, acid precipitation(pH 3.0), and dialysis was 9.24%. The experimental plots divided to 1% cellulose group(control), 0.5% hemicellulose group(H-l) and 1% hemicellulose group(H-2). The groups were fed for 6 weeks, then continuously fed for 1 week after induction of diabetes by STZ. Feed intakes, weight gain and feed efficiency of the each groups were not significantly different, while water intakes and liver weight of H-2 group were lower than those of control and H-l group. Weight of liver in the H-2 group was significantly lower than those of control and H-l groups. The amounts of feces were 0.32 g/day in the control group, 0.43∼0.44 g/day in the H-l and H-2 groups, while the amounts of urine were 15.28 mL/day in the control group, 10.83∼11.20 mL/day in the H-l and H-2 groups. The content of blood glucose before diabetes induction(fed for 3∼5 weeks) was 111.2-132.6 mg/dL in the control group, not significantly different from others; After diabetes induction, however, the contents were 212.8 mg/dL in the control group, 140.0-144.0 mg/dL in the H-l and H-2 groups, which showed significant difference. Urine glucose contents of H-2 group before and after diabetes induction were lower than those of control and H-l groups. There was no significant difference in the content of neutral lipid between each groups. Total cholesterol contents were 101.6 mg/dL in the control group, 56.∼64.0 mg/dL in the hemicellulose groups. HDL-cholesterol content and atherogenic index of hemicellulose groups were lower than those of control group, respectively. In conclusion, the hemicellulose extracted from Shiitake mushroom represented improving and preventing effects for diabetes.
Objectives This experimental study was designed to investigate the effects of Dai-saiko-to (DSH) on differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes and body weight, serum lipid levels in high-fat diet-induced obese mice. Materials and Methods Cells were incubated with DSH at an indicated concentration (0.01-1 mg/ml) for 24h, then the growth rate was assessed by MTS assay. 3T3-L1 preadipocytes were incubated in DMEM for 2 days with the indicated concentrations of DSH. On Day 6, the cells were fixed and the cellular lipid contents were assessed by Oil-Red-O staining. The expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor ${\gamma}$ ($PPAR{\gamma}$) and cytidine-cytidine-adenosine-adenosine-thymine (CCAAT)/enhancer-binding proteins ${\alpha}$ ($C/EBP{\alpha}$) as adipocyte-specific proteins were determined by real time RT-PCR and western blotting. Four-weeks old mice (wild-type C57BL/6) were used for all experiments. Body weight gain and serum lipid levels were measured in the obesity-induced mice. Results DSH did not show toxicity even at the concentration of 1 mg/ml and DSH significantly inhibited the differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes in a dose-dependent manner. Also, DSH significantly reduced the expressions of $PPAR{\gamma}$ and $C/EBP{\alpha}$ in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, DSH significantly reduced body weight gain, serum glucose, total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol contents in obesity-induced mice. Conclusions These results demonstrated that DSH inhibited 3T3-L1 preadipocyte differentiations and high-fat diet-induced obesity in mice.
This study was conducted to investigate the influence of dietary mugwort (0, 1, 2, 4%) and sardline oil(1%) on weight gain, pH, volatile basic nitrogen (VBN), thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS), and meat color in meat-type chickens. Birds were randomly assigned to the four dietary treatments: control (commercial feed), control plus 1% mugwort and sardine oil (T1), 2% mugwort and 1% sardine oil(T2), or 4% mugwort and 1% sardine oil (T3). Birds were sacrificed and meat samples were taken and stored for either 0, 3, 7 or 10 days at $4^{\circ}C$. Weight gain in T3 was lowest than other treatment groups (P<0.05). pH of dietary mugwort and sardine oil treatments increased significantly compared to that of control during storage periods (P<0.05). VBN and TBARS of all treatment groups were significantly increased as storage period extended (P<0.05). Meat color $(L^*,\;b^*)$ significantly increased during storage periods. $L^*\;and\;b^*$ values were higher in treatment groups than in control (P<0.05). These results indicate that the mugwort and fish oil may improve quality and self-life of meat-type chickens during storage.
