Short term Efficacy of C0-C1 Mobilization in the Cervical Neutral Position in Upper Cervical Hypomobility: A Randomized Controlled Trial

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of mobilization of C0-C1 and C7-T1 applied to asymptomatic individuals with reduced upper cervical rotation during the FRT. Design: parallel randomized controlled trial. 48 subjects(38.52 years${\pm}15.13$) with C1-C2 rotation hypomobility in TFR joined the study and were randomized into three groups(C0, C7, control group). FRT in both directions was measured before and after the intervention. C0 intervention consisted of a dorsal translatoric mobilization of C0-C1 in the cervical neutral position. C7 intervention consisted of a ventral cranial translatoric mobilization of C7-T1 in neutral position and the control group maintained a supine position. C0 group experienced a FRT ROM to the restricted side increase of $17.64^{\circ}$(SD=4.55), that was significantly greater (P<0.001) than $5.95^{\circ}$(SD=4.81) of the C7 group and $2.45^{\circ}$(SD=5.05) of the control group. The results showed that a dorsal translatoric mobilization of C0-C1 in neutral position restored the physiological FRT mobility in subjects with C1-C2 hypomobility and experienced statistical significant improvement in FRT as compared to a C7-T1 translatoric mobilization and a control group.   • In this paper we deal with the open problem posed by Lü, Li and Yang [10]. In fact, we prove the following result: Let f(z) be a transcendental meromorphic function of finite order having finitely many poles, c1, c2, …, cn ∈ ℂ\{0} and k, n ∈ ℕ. Suppose fn(z), f(z+c1)f(z+c2) ⋯ f(z+cn) share 0 CM and fn(z)-Q1(z), (f(z+c1)f(z+c2) ⋯ f(z+cn))(k) - Q2(z) share (0, 1), where Q1(z) and Q2(z) are non-zero polynomials. If n ≥ k+1, then $(f(z+c_1)f(z+c_2)\;{\cdots}\;f(z+c_n))^{(k)}\;{\equiv}\;{\frac{Q_2(z)}{Q_1(z)}}f^n(z)$. Furthermore, if Q1(z) ≡ Q2(z), then $f(z)=c\;e^{\frac{\lambda}{n}z}$, where c, λ ∈ ℂ \ {0} such that eλ(c1+c2+⋯+cn) = 1 and λk = 1. Also we exhibit some examples to show that the conditions of our result are the best possible.

CYP2E1 RsaI/PstI Polymorphism and Liver Cancer Risk among East Asians: a Huge Review and Meta-analysis

  • Published data on any association between the CYP2E1 RsaI/PstI (c1/c2) polymorphism and liver cancer risk among east Asians are inconclusive. The aim of this Human Genome Epidemiology (HuGE) review and meta-analysis was to derive a more precise estimation of the relationship. A literature search of Pubmed, Embase, Web of science and CBM databases from inception through July 2012 was conducted. Twelve case-control studies were included with a total of 1,552 liver cancer cases and 1,763 healthy controls. Crude odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to assess the strength of association under five genetic models. When all the eligible studies were pooled into the meta-analysis, the results showed that the c2 allele and the c2 carrier (c2/c2 + c2/c1) of RsaI/PstI polymorphism were associated with decreased risk of liver cancer among east Asians (c2 vs. c1: OR = 0.75, 95%CI: 0.59-0.95, P = 0.016; c2/c2 + c2/c1 vs. c1/c1: OR = 0.76, 95%CI: 0.58-1.00, P = 0.050). In the stratified analysis by country, significant associations were observed between RsaI/PstI polymorphism and decreased risk of liver cancer among the Chinese population (c2 vs. c1: OR = 0.70, 95%CI: 0.54-0.91, P = 0.007; c2/c2 + c2/c1 vs. c1/c1: OR = 0.72, 95%CI: 0.54-0.95, P = 0.020), but not among Japanese and Korean populations. Results from the current meta-analysis indicates that the c2 allele of CYP2E1 RsaI/PstI (c1/c2) polymorphism may be a protective factor for HCC among east Asians, especially among China populations.

Detection of Hydrocarbons to Determine Post-Irradiation of Dry Soup Base Ingredients in Instant Noodle (라면 건조 스프 재료의 방사선 조사 검지를 위한 Hydrocarbon류 검출)

  • Hydrocarbons in dry soup base and its ingredients in instant noodle were analyzed to determine whether the analysis of hydrocarbons is a potential method to detect post-irradiation of the soup base. Soup base ingredients were irradiated individually, irradiated before mixing, or mixed after irradiation. Lipids were extracted with hexane and hydrocarbons were separated from the lipids through Florisil column. The hydrocarbons were analyzed with GC. Hydrocarbons C17:2, C16:3, C17:1, and C16:2 were detected in palm oil, red pepper powder, and sesame seeds irradiated at 10 kGy, but not in unirradiated ones. C17:2, C16:3, C17:1, and C16:2 were not detected in the soup base mixture of unirradiated ingredients. The four hydrocarbons were detected in the soup base mixture using irradiated palm oil or sesame seeds. In the mixture using irradiated red pepper powder, C17:2 and C16:3 were detected. When the soup mixture was irradiated after mixing unirradiated ingredients, C17:2, C17:1, and C16:2 were detected in the sample irradiated at 1 kGy, and C17:2, C16:3, C17:1, and C16:2 were in large amounts at 5 and 10 kGy.

HCBP6 upregulates human SREBP1c expression by binding to C/EBPβ-binding site in the SREBP1c promoter

  • Sterol regulatory element-binding protein-1c (SREBP1c) plays an important role in triglyceride (TG) homeostasis. Although our previous study showed that hepatitis C virus core-binding protein 6 (HCBP6) regulates SREBP1c expression to maintain intracellular TG homeostasis, the mechanism underlying this regulation is unclear. In the present study, we found that HCBP6 increased intracellular TG levels by upregulating SREBP1c expression. HCBP6 increased SREBP1c transcription by directly binding to the SREBP1c promoter (at the -139- to +359-bp region). Moreover, we observed that HCBP6 interacted with $C/EBP{\beta}-binding$ site in the SREBP1c promoter both in vitro and in vivo. These results indicate that HCBP6 upregulates human SREBP1c expression by binding to the $C/EBP{\beta}-binding$ site in the SREBP1c promoter.

  • Eight-membered ring spiro orthocarbonate (C$_{25}H_{20}O_4$, M$_r$ = 384) is monoclinic, space group C2/c, with a = 15.319(4), b = 9.057(3), c = 13.168(3)${\AA}$, ${\beta}$ = 98.53(3)$^{\circ}$, Z = 4, F(000) = 808, T = 290 K, ${\mu}$(Mo-K${\alpha}$) = 0.55 cm$_1$, D$_c$ = 1.36 g/cm$^3$ and D$_m$ = 1.40 g/cm$^3$. The intensity data were collected with Mo-K${\alpha}$ radiation (${\lambda}$ = 0.7107 ${\AA}$) on an automatic four-circle diffractometer with a graphite monochromater. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined by full matrix least-squares methods. The final R value was 0.052 for 1412 observed reflections. The molecule has C$_2$point symmetry. The eight-membered ring has a chair conformation with pseudo-C$_s$ symmetry. The naphthyl ring is planar with the C-C bond lengths being in the range of 1.352∼1.444${\AA}$ and bond angles of 117.2∼123.5$^{\circ}$. The bond lengths of C(1)-C(9), C(8)-C(9) and C(9)-C(10) are somewhat longer than those of the other C-C bonds.

Comparison of Pepper Anthracnose Pathogens from Korea and China

  • Anthracnose of pepper casued by Colletotrichum spphas been a great problems for pepper production in Korea and China. Especially Colletotrichum gloeosporioides was found predominantly over cultivation areas during infection periods and caused severe rots on bath unripe and ripe fruits that resulted in major yield losses. In this study, comparison of Colletrichum spp.isolated from Korea and China in morphology and pathgenicity, and RAPD-PCR analysis were conducted. Based on morphological characteristics, the pathogen isolates, K1 and C1, K2 and C2, and K3 and C3 were identified as Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (G) type, C. gloeosporioides (R) type and C. coccodes, respectively. in pathogenicity test, K1 and C1, and K2 and C2 were found to attack mainly fruits and to be the most virulent among isolates. K3 and C3 were strongly virulent to leaves and seedling. Pathogenicity between Korean and Chinese isolates. K3 and C3 were strongly virulent to leaves and seedling. Pathogenicity between Korean and Chinese isolates did not show any difference. Results of the RAPD-PCR analyses indicate the varying levels of molecular diversity within and between Colletotrichum spp.of Korea and China. The similarities between K1 and C1, K2 and C2, and K3 and C3 were 85.71%, 71.43% and 50.0% respectively.

Triacylglycerol composition of dry peas (Pisum sativum L.) (완두의 트리아실글리세롤 조성)

  • Lipids in dry peas were extracted by the mixture of chloroform-methanol-water, and from the extracted lipids triacylglycerols(TG) were separated by thin layer chromatography. TG were separated into different fractions according to partition numbers by HPLC. Each of these collected fractions was analyzed on the basis of acyl carbon number by GLC, and their fatty acid compositions were also analyzed by GLC. From these results, the possible fatty acid combinations of TG in dry peas were estimated to be thirty three kinds and the major kinds were as follows $C_{16:0}C_{18:2}C_{18:2}(13.4%),\;C_{18:1}C_{18:2}C_{18:3}(9.3%),\;C_{18:1}C_{18:2}C_{18:2}(9.2%),\;C_{18:2}C_{18:2}C_{18:2}(8.1%),\;C_{18:2}C_{18:2}C_{18:3}(6.4%),\;and\;C_{18:0}C_{18:1}C_{18:2}(5.4%)$.

HOMOGENEOUS $C^*$-ALGEBRAS OVER A SPHERE

  • It is shown that for $A_{k, m}$ a k-homogeneous $C^*$-algebra over $S^{2n - 1} \times S^1$ such that no non-trivial matrix algebra can be factored out of $A_{k, m}$ and $A_{k, m} \otimes M_l(C)$ has a non-trivial bundle structure for any positive integer l, we construct an $A_{k, m^-} C(S^{2n - 1} \times S^1) \otimes M_k(C)$-equivalence bimodule to show that every k-homogeneous $C^*$-algebra over $S^{2n - 1} \times S^1)$. Moreover, we prove that the tensor product of the k-homogeneous $C^*$-algebra $A_{k, m}$ with a UHF-algebra of type $p^\infty$ has the tribial bundle structure if and only if the set of prime factors of k is a subset of the set of prime factors of pp.

Unilateral C1 Lateral Mass and C2 Pedicle Screw Fixation for Atlantoaxial Instability in Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients : Comparison with the Bilateral Method

  • Objective : Bilateral C1 lateral mass and C2 pedicle screw fixation (C1LM-C2P) is an ideal technique for correcting atlantoaxial instability (AAI). However, the inevitable situation of vertebral artery injury or unfavorable bone structure may necessitate the use of unilateral C1LM-C2P. This study compares the fusion rates of the C1 lateral mass and C2 pedicle screw in the unilateral and bilateral methods. Methods : Over five years, C1LM-C2P was performed in 25 patients with AAI in our institute. Preoperative studies including cervical X-ray, three-dimensional computed tomography (CT), CT angiogram, and magnetic resonance imaging were performed. To evaluate bony fusion, measurements of the atlanto-dental interval (ADI) and CT scans were performed in the preoperative period, immediate postoperative period, and postoperatively at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months. Results : Unilateral C1LM-C2P was performed in 11 patients (44%). The need to perform unilateral C1LM-C2P was due to anomalous course of the vertebral artery in eight patients (73%) and severe degenerative arthritis in three patients (27%). The mean ADI in the bilateral group was 2.09 mm in the immediate postoperative period and 1.75 mm in 12-months postoperatively. The mean ADI in the unilateral group was 1.82 mm in the immediate postoperative period and 1.91 mm in 12-months postoperatively. Comparison of ADI measurements showed no significant differences in either group (p=0.893), and the fusion rate was 100% in both groups. Conclusion : Although bilateral C1LM-C2P is effective for AAI from a biomechanical perspective, unilateral screw fixation is a useful alternative in patients with anatomical variations.
