  • The current efficiency of copper anode containing impurities in copper sulfate solution for electrorefining was studied at various current type such as direct current, variable current and periodic reverse current. The passivity behavior was investigated by galvanostatic technique. The results obtained were that current efficiency of variable current was higher than those of direct current and periodic reverse current. The increased current efficiency could be explained by the formation of slime structure with lower average resistance due to variable current. The frequency of various factors in variable current condition has a greatest effect on current efficiency. It appeared that frequency increased current efficiency when increased from 1 to 4, but further increases did not have an effect.

  • Voltage-current characteristics of High Temperature Superconductor(HTS) tapes after applying the current beyond their critical current was investigated. When over-current is applied, the current begins to flow through the metal sheath instead of superconductor. The HTS tapes quenched were analyzed using V-I curve with various magnitudes of current. Two kinds of tapes were compared with each other to examine the influence of critical current on quench development. As a result, it was found that the resistance of superconductors and joule heat due to the over-current affect current distribution in HTS tapes. Critical current of HTS tapes was considered as a main factor deciding over-current characteristics.

  • An on-chip current sensor with fast response time for the peak-current-mode buck regulator is proposed. The initial operating points of the peak current sensor are determined in advance by the valley current level, which is sensed by a valley current sensor. As a result, the proposed current sensor achieves a fast response time of less than 20 ns, and a sensing accuracy of over 90%. Applying the proposed current sensor, the peak-current-mode buck regulator for the mobile application is realized with an operating frequency of 2 MHz, an output voltage of 0.8 V, a maximum load current of 500 mA, and a peak efficiency of over 83%.

  • In a AC motor used by three phase inverter, the phase current must be measured to control instantaneous torque. It is expensive to use current sensor for measuring current in low cost motor. So, shunt resistor is used to measure current. But, the method sensing the phase current using shunt resistor cannot perform the vector control in high speed because of the area that impossible to restore three phase current. In this paper, predictive current is proposed for reconstructing the current in the impossible current sensing area that reduce the current ripple in TSSI(Three shunt sensing inverter) for PMSM.

  • A DC railway system has low feeder voltage, The remote fault current can be smaller than the current of load starting. So it is important to discriminate between the small fault current and the train starting current. The train starting current increases step by step but the fault current increases all at once. So the type of $\bigtriangleup I\;relay(50F)$ was developed using the different characteristics between the load starting current and the fault current. As for the train starting current, the time constant of train current at each step is much smaller than that of the fault current. To detect faults in U railway systems, an algorithm that is independent of train starting current. This algorithm use the time constant calculated by the method of least squares is presented in this paper.

  • The superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL) can be used to limit fault current level in electrical transmission line and power system. Up to now, there are several kinds of SFCL that have proposed and it is expects that they will be applied to appropriated position considering their own properties; initial fault current limiting instant and the current limiting characteristics. In this paper, we investigated the initial fault current limiting instant and the amplitude of initial fault current in the resistive type, the flux-lock type, the flux-coupling type and the transformer type SFCL. Experiment results show that the initial fault current limiting instant and the amplitude of initial fault current of the SFCLs are dependant on the ratio of inductance of primary and secondary coils.

  • To ensure a DC current path and avoid large voltage overshoot of the DC-link inductor, alternating PWM pulses in the current-source rectifier should be supplemented by overlap time, which generates an overlap current and causes input current distortion. In this study, the influence of overlap time is illustrated by comparing the AC-side current before and after overlap time is added. The overlap current distribution caused by overlap time is discussed under different modulation carriers, including triangle carrier, positive-going carrier, and negative-going carrier. The quantitative relationship between the extra harmonics of the AC-side current and overlap time is based on the Fourier analysis. Based on the commutation analysis, a new carrier modulation scheme that can restrain overlap current is proposed. A 3 kW prototype is established to verify the effectiveness of the influence of overlap time and the proposed restraining modulation scheme.

  • The influence of current distribution on the transport current loss in vertically stacked high-$T_c$ superconductor (HTS) tapes was evaluated. AC loss was analyzed as a function of current distribution by introducing a current distribution parameter through a numerical method (finite element analysis). AC loss under non-uniform current distribution is always higher than that for a uniformly distributed transport current in a conductor. Although the effect of non-uniformity is relatively insignificant in low transport current, AC loss increases substantially in high transport current regions as non-uniformity is enlarged. The results verify that non-uniform current distribution causes extra loss by examining the cross-sectional view of current densities in stacked conductor.
