  • Four turbulent $k-{varepsilon}$models(i.e standard model modified models with streamline curvature modification and/or preferential dissipation modification) are applied in order to analyze the tur-bulent flow of wall-attaching offset jet. The upwind numerical scheme was adopted in the present analyses. The streamline curvature modification results in slightly better prediction while the preferential dissipation modification does not. The obtained analytic results will be used as refer-ences for further study regarding Reynolds stress model. In addition this paper introduced a method of increasing nozzle outlet velocity gradually for numercal convergence. Even though the method was simple it was efficient in view of convergent speed CPU running time computer memory storage programming etc.

  • In active noise control (ANC) system, the convergence behavior of the Filtered- X Least Mean Square (FXLMS) algorithm may be affected by nonlinear distortion in the secondary path as in the power amplifiers (e.g., saturation), loudspeakers and transducers. This distortion may yields degrading the error reduction performance of the ANC systems. In this paper, the authors of this paper propose a more improved and stable FXLMS algorithm to compensate for the undesirable nonlinearity of the secondary-path, whereby the third-order Volterra model was employed for the identification of the nonlinear secondary-path. In particular, the proposed approach was based on the modification of the conventional FXLMS algorithm. Finally, the simulation results showed that the proposed approach yields better convergence property and more stable performance in the ANC systems.

  • Let E be a real q-uniformly smooth Banach space which admits a weakly sequentially continuous duality map, and K a nonempty closed convex subset of E. Let T : K -> K be a mapping such that $F(T)\;=\;{x\;{\in}\;K\;:\;Tx\;=\;x}\;{\neq}\;0$ and (I - T) satisfies the accretive-type condition: $\;{\geq}\;{\lambda}$\mid$$\mid$x-Tx$\mid$$\mid$^2$, for all $x\;{\in}\;K,\;x^*\;{\in}\;F(T)$ and for some ${\lambda}\;>\;0$. The weak and strong convergence of the Ishikawa iteration method to a fixed point of T are investigated. An application of our results to the approximation of a solution of a certain linear operator equation is also given. Our results extend several important known results from the Mann iteration method to the Ishikawa iteration method. In particular, our results resolve in the affirmative an open problem posed by Naimpally and Singh (J. Math. Anal. Appl. 96 (1983), 437-446).

  • In this study, experiments were carried out after fabricating and installing a physical model considering the size of the prototype. In the model test, the number of struts placed on the wall and the applied acceleration were selected as test variables. Two different types of waves, long-period and short-period, were applied with magnitudes of 0.05g, 0.1g, 0.2g, and 0.3g. Measured are displacements at specified points. As a result of the analysis, displacement exceeding the allowable displacement of the wall occurred at an acceleration greater than 0.05g to 0.1g depending on the seismic waves applied. Therefore guidelines have to be established through further studies for aseismic design of earth retaining walls.

  • Precipitation is a crucial component of water cycle and play a key role in hydrological processes. Traditionally, gauge-based precipitation is the main method to achieve high accuracy of rainfall estimation, but its distribution is sparsely in mountainous areas. Recently, satellite-based precipitation products (SPPs) provide grid-based precipitation with spatio-temporal variability, but SPPs contain a lot of uncertainty in estimated precipitation, and the spatial resolution quite coarse. To overcome these limitations, this study aims to generate new grid-based daily precipitation using Automatic weather system (AWS) in Korea and multiple SPPs(i.e. CHIRPSv2, CMORPH, GSMaP, TRMMv7) during the period of 2003-2017. And this study used a machine learning based Random Forest (RF) model for generating new merging precipitation. In addition, several statistical linear merging methods are used to compare with the results of the RF model. In order to investigate the efficiency of RF, observed data from 64 observed Automated Synoptic Observation System (ASOS) were collected to evaluate the accuracy of the products through Kling-Gupta efficiency (KGE), probability of detection (POD), false alarm rate (FAR), and critical success index (CSI). As a result, the new precipitation generated through the random forest model showed higher accuracy than each satellite rainfall product and spatio-temporal variability was better reflected than other statistical merging methods. Therefore, a random forest-based ensemble satellite precipitation product can be efficiently used for hydrological simulations in ungauged basins such as the Mekong River.

  • The corrosion behavior of high chromium white cast iron was studied in 0.5 mol dm-3 H2SO4 + 0.01 mol dm-3 HCl solution over time through electrochemical and immersion experiments. Potentiodynamic and potentiostatic polarizations revealed active-passivation transition behavior, with critical current densities observed at -0.27 VSSE and 0.00 VSSE, repectively. The former potential showed preferential dissolution of primary γ phases, while the latter one showed preferential dissolution of eutectic γ phases. Immersion tests showed an exponential increase in corrosion rate, with significant acceleration observed around 1000 seconds due to the onset of eutectic γ phase dissolution. Over a 24-hour immersion period, both γ phases exhibited extensive corrosion, leaving carbides largely intact. These findings elucidate distinct corrosion behaviors of high chromium white cast iron in acidic environments, providing critical insights into material performance evaluation. Understanding these mechanisms is essential for predicting the longevity and durability of materials in corrosive conditions, thereby informing better material design and application strategies.

  • A non-thermal plasma process combined with $Cr_2O_3/TiO_2$ catalyst was applied to the decomposition of trichloroethylene (TCE). A dielectric barrier discharge reactor operated with AC high voltage was used as the non-thermal plasma reactor. The effects of reaction temperature and input power on the decomposition of TCE and the formation of byproducts including HCl, $Cl_2$, CO, NO, $NO_2$ and $O_3$ were examined. At an identical input power, the increase in the reaction temperature from 373 K to 473 K decreased the decomposition of TCE in the plasma reactor. The presence of the catalyst downstream the plasma reactor not only enhanced the decomposition of TCE but also affected the distribution of byproducts, significantly. However, synergistic effect as a result of the combination of non-thermal plasma with catalyst was not observed, i.e., the TCE decomposition efficiency in this plasma-catalyst combination system was almost similar to the sum of those obtained with each process.

  • This study was carried out numerically to investigate the flow characteristics in the Venturi tube with $90^{\circ}$ T-branch tube and the inflow of condensed water into the Venturi tube from the branch tube. In this study, the diameter of the branch tube(1, 2, 3mm) and the neck diameter of the Venturi tube(0.3, 0.9, 1.5mm) were varied. The flow rate of the water at the Venturi tube inlet is 80cc/min and the water temperature is 288K. The condensed water temperature at the branch tube inlet is 355K. It was found that the velocity and pressure of the fluid near the branch point in the Venturi tube were more dependent on the diameter of the Venturi tube than the diameter of the branch tube. The temperature of the mixed water at the exit of the Venturi tube was the highest when the Venturi tube's neck diameter is 0.9mm and the branch tube diameter is 2mm. This means that the condensed water is flowing well through the branch tube.
