  • Blending effects of hydrogen and water vapor on flame structure and NOx emission behavior are numerically studied with detailed chemistry in methane-air counterflow diffusion flames. The composition of fuel is systematically changed from pure methane and pure hydrogen to the blending fuels of methane-hydrogen-water vapor through the molar addition of $H_2O$. Flame structure is changed considerably for hydrogen-blending methane flames and hydrogen-blending methane flames diluted with water vapor in comparison to pure methane flame. These complicated changes of flame structures also affect NOx emission behavior considerably. The changes of thermal NO and Fenimore NO are analyzed for various combinations of the fuel composition. Importantly contributing reaction steps to thermal NO and Fenimore NO are addressed in pure methane, hydrogen-blending methane flames, and hydrogen-blending methane flames diluted with water vapor.

  • Hydrogen-blending effects in flame structure and NO emission behavior are numerically studied with detailed chemistry in methane-air counterflow diffusion flames. The composition of fuel is systematically changed from pure methane to the blending fuel of methane-hydrogen through $H_2$ molar addition up to 30%. Flame structure, which can be described representatively as a fuel consumption layer and a $H_2$-CO consumption layer, is shown to be changed considerably in hydrogen-blending methane flames, compared to pure methane flames. The differences are displayed through maximum flame temperature, the overlap of fuel and oxygen, and the behaviors of the production rates of major species. Hydrogen-blending into hydrocarbon fuel can be a promising technology to reduce both the CO and $CO_2$ emissions supposing that NOx emission should be reduced through some technologies in industrial burners. These drastic changes of flame structure affect NO emission behavior considerably. The changes of thermal NO and prompt NO are also provided according to hydrogen-blending. Importantly contributing reaction steps to prompt NO are addressed in pure methane and hydrogen-blending methane flames.

  • High strength cement composites (W/C=0.1) were prepared by using various blending materials such as SiC whisker and white carbon (hydrated silica: SiO2·nH2O). The effect of various blending materials on the microstructure and strength of the hardened cement paste were investigated in the view of fracture mechanics. The plain specimen showed 101 MPa of flexural strength, 81 GPa of Young's modulus and 1.32 MPam1/2 of fracture toughness. When the blending materials were added to the composites, their values were enhanced to about 110∼138 MPa, 95∼146 GPa and 1.32∼1.87MPam1/2 respectively. The improvement of the mechanical strength for the hardened cement paste may be due to the removal of macropores, the reduction of total porosity, pozzolanic reaction and the increase of various fracture toughening effect.

  • For fast and accurate motion of 6-axis articulated robot, more noble motion control strategy is needed. In general, the movement strategy of industrial robots can be divided into two kinds, PTP (Point to Point) and CP (Continuous Path). Recently, industrial robots which should be co-worked with machine tools are increasingly needed for performing various jobs, as well as simple handling or welding. Therefore, in order to cope with high-speed handling of the cooperation of industrial robots with machine tools or other devices, CP should be implemented so as to reduce vibration and noise, as well as decreasing operation time. This paper will realize CP motion (especially joint-linear) blending in 3-dimensional space for a 6-axis articulated (lab-manufactured) robot (called as "RS2") by using LabVIEW$^{(R)}$ (6) programming, based on a parametric interpolation. Another small contribution of this paper is the proposal of motion blending simulation technique based on Recurdyn$^{(R)}$ V7 and Solidworks$^{(R)}$, in order to figure out whether the joint-linear blending motion can generate the stable motion of robot in the sense of velocity magnitude at the end-effector of robot or not. In order to evaluate the performance of joint-linear motion blending, simple PTP (i.e., linear-linear) is also physically implemented on RS2. The implementation results of joint-linear motion blending and PTP are compared in terms of vibration magnitude and travel time by using the vibration testing equipment of Medallion of Zonic$^{(R)}$. It can be confirmed verified that the vibration peak of joint-linear motion blending has been reduced to 1/10, compared to that of PTP.

  • In this study, the effects of the relative humidity and storage time of blended tobaccos at total blending silo on cut tobacco equilibrium moisture contents, leaf moisture contents and migration of casing materials of tobacco types were investigated. To maintain the cutting moisture content(21 $\pm$ 1 %), it is necessary to keep 75 % relative humidity at 28 $^{\circ}C$ at total blending silo. The moisture content of reconstituted tobacco sheet was changed from $13{\sim}14$ % to $19{\sim}21$ % within 2 h after preblending. The contents of glycerin and fructose of tobacco types followed by storage time after preblending were not changed significantly. From these results, it is suggested that 2 h storage time after preblending was sufficient to maintain physical properties of cut tobaccos and tobacco taste and fragrance.

  • Seasoned laver Pyropia spp. is one of the most well-known Korean traditional seafoods, and is becoming more popular worldwide. Various mixed oils are used in the preparation of seasoned laver; however, there is no information available regarding the effects of the blending ratio of oils on the quality of seasoned laver. In this study, the effects of the blending ratio of corn, sesame, and perilla oils on the oxidation and sensory quality of seasoned laver were monitored and optimized using a response surface methodology. An increase in the proportion of corn and sesame oils resulted in an excellent oxidation induction time, whereas a high ratio of perilla oil reduced the thermal oxidative stability of the mixed oil. In the sensory test, the seasoned laver with the highest proportion of sesame oil was preferred. The optimal blending ratio (v/v) of corn, sesame, and perilla oils for both oxidation induction time ($Y_1$) and sensory score ($Y_2$) was 92.3, 6.0, and 1.7%. Under optimal conditions, the experimental values of $Y_1$ and $Y_2$ were $4.41{\pm}0.3h$ and $5.58{\pm}0.8$points, and were similar to the predicted values (4.34 h and 5.13 points). Our results for the monitoring and optimization of the blending ratio provide useful information for seasoned laver processing companies.

  • PLA/LPCL/HPCL blend fibers composed of poly (lactic acid) (PLA), low molecular weight poly ($\varepsilon$-caprolactone) (LPCL), and high molecular weight poly ($\varepsilon$-caprolactone) (HPCL) were prepared by melt blending and spinning for bioabsorbable filament sutures. The effects of blending time and blend composition on the X-ray diffraction patterns and tensile properties of PLA/LPCL/HPCL blend fibers were characterized by WAXD and UTM. In addition, the effect of in vitro degradation on the weight loss and tensile properties of the blend fibers hydrolyzed during immersion in a phosphate buffer solution at pH 7.4 and 37$^{\circ}C$ for 1-8 weeks was investigated. The peak intensities of PLA/LPCL/HPCL blend fibers in X-ray diffraction patterns decreased with an increase of blending time and LPCL contents in the blend fibers. The weight loss of PLA/LPCL/HPCL blend fibers increased with an increase of blending time, LPCL contents, and hydrolysis time while the tensile strength and modulus of the blend fibers decreased. The tensile strength and modulus of the blend fibers were also found to be increased with an increase of HPCL contents in the blend fibers. The optimum conditions to prepare PLA/LPCL/HPCL blend fibers for bioabsorbable sutures are LPCL contents of $5 wt\%, HPCL contents of $35 wt\%, and blending time of 30 min. The strength retention of the PLA/LPCL/HPCL blend fiber prepared under optimum conditions was about $93.5\% even at hydrolysis time of 2 weeks.
