In the FMAS system the effect of iron on alumina solubility in orthopyroxene has been determined by experiments with crystalline starting mixtures of garnet and orthopyroxene of known initial compositions at 20 kb, 975$^{\circ}C$ and 25 kb, 1,200$^{\circ}C$. These data have been modeled to develop a thermodynamic method for the calculation of Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$ in orthopyroxene as a function of P, T and composition. The direct application of the alumina solubility data in the MAS system to natural assemblages could lead to significant overestimation of pressure, probably by about 5kb for the relatively common garnet-lherzolites with abot 25 mol per cent Ca + Fe$^{2+}$ in garnet and about 1 wt. per cent Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$ in orthopyroxene since the effect of Fe is similar to that of Ca and Cr$^{3+}$in reducing the alumina solubility in orthopyroxene in equilibrum with garnet relative to that in the MAS system.
Tunnel junctions with AI-N barriers fabricated by microwave-excited plasma were studied. When the Al thickness, nitridation time, and annealing temperature were 1 nm (0.8 nm), 50 s (35 s), and $280^{\circ}C$ ($300^{\circ}C$), TMR ratio and resistance-area product (RA) were 49% (34%) and $3 ${\times}$ 10^4$$\Omega$$\mu\m^2$ ($1.5 ${\times}$ 10^4$$\Omega$$\mu\m^2$), respectively. In order to clarify the annealing temperature dependence of TMR ratio, the local transport properties were measured for Ta 5 nm/Cu 20 nm/Ta 5 nm$29_{76}$$Fe_{24}$ 2 nm/Cu 5 nm/M $n_{75}$$Ir_{25}$ 10 nm/ $Co_{71}$$Co_{29}$ 4nm/Al-N junction with Al thickness of 0.8 nm and nitridation time of 35s at various temperatures. The increase of TMR ratio after annealing at $300^{\circ}C$, where the TMR ratio of the corresponding MTJ had the maximum value of 34%, can be well explained by the enhancement of the average barrier height ($\Phi_{ave}$) and the reduction of its fluctuation. After further annealing at $340^{\circ}C$, the leakage current was observed and the TMR ratio decreaseded
Effects of coagulation types on flocculation were investigated by using a photometric dispersion analyzer (PDA) as an on-line monitoring technique in this study. Nakdong River water were used and alum and ferric chloride were used as coagulants. The aim of this study is to compare the coagulation characteristics of alum and ferric chloride by a photometric dispersion analyzer (PDA). Floc growing rates ($R_v$) in three different water temperatures ($4^{\circ}C$, $16^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$) and coagulants doses (0.15 mM, 0.20 mM and 0.25 mM as Al, Fe) were measured. The floc growing rate ($R_v$) by alum was 1.8~2.8 times higher than that of ferric chloride during rapid mixing period, however, for 0.15 mM~0.25 mM coagulant doses the floc growing rate ($R_v$) by ferric chloride was 1.1~2.3 times higher than that of alum in the slow mixing period at $16^{\circ}C$ water temperature. Reasonable coagulant doses of alum and ferric chloride for turbidity removal were 0.1 mM (as Al) and 0.2 mM (as Fe), respectively, and the removal efficiency of those coagulant doses showed 94% for alum and 97% for ferric chloride. The appropriate coagulant dose of alum and ferric chloride for removing dissolved organic carbon (DOC) showed about 0.3 mM (as Al, Fe) and at this dosage, DOC removal efficiencies were 36% and 44%, and ferric chloride was superior to the alum for removal of the DOC in water.

It is well known that Fe3Al intermetallic compound shows an anomalous peak of the yield strength at about 50$0^{\circ}C$ and then decrease at higher temperatures The dislocation structure was examined by transmission electron microscopy and high temperatures. The dislocation structure was examined by transmission electron microscopy and high temperature mechanical properties were examined by tensile and load relaxation tests. The flow stress curves obtained from load relaxation tests were then analyzed in terms of internal variable deformation theory. it was found that the flow curves consisted of three micro-deformation mechanisms -i. e inelastic deformation mode plastic deformation mode and dislocation creep deformation mode depending on both dislocation structure and deformation temperature. The flow curves could be well described by the constitutive equations of these three micro-deformation mechanisms based on the internal variable deformation theory.
Equilibrium relations between garnet and orthopyroxene have been investigated by reversal experiments in the range of 20-45Kb and $975-1400^{\circ}C$ in the $FeO-MgO-Al_2O_3-SiO_2$(FMAS) system. A mixture of PbO with about 55 mol per cent $PbF_2$ was used as a flux and proved very effective. The Fe-Mg exchange reaction seems to have little or no compositional dependence at these conditions. Combination of the experimental results with the garnet mixing model of Ganguly and Saxena(1984) yields the following geothermometric expression for the common natural assemblages that can be represented essentially within the system $FeO-MgO-CaO-MnO-Al_2O_3-SiO_2$. $$T^{\circ}C=(1971+11.91P(Kb)+1510(X_{Ca}+X_{Mn})^{Gt}/(lnK_D+0.96)-273$$.
For the separation of aluminum and iron from platinum mixtures, extraction resins were synthesized and separation efficiencies were compared with those by commercial one, $P_{204}$. During synthesis, the suspension polymerization method was adopted with D2EHPA as an extractant. Also, benzoyl peroxide as a starter was divided into 3parts and injected for the uniform size and dispersion of resin particles. Comparison tests resulted in 100% separation of Fe and Pt for both synthetic and $P_{204}$ resins. In case of Al and Pt, synthetic and $P_{204}$ resin gave extraction efficiencies of 99.9% and 98.9%, respectively. Difference in extractant contents of synthetic resin(61.8%) and $P_{204}$(60%) was considered to give differences in separation efficiencies of aluminum and iron elements. For both resins, separation efficiencies of Al and Fe increased up to $55^{\circ}C$. According to FT-IR analyses of both resins, specific peaks of D2EHPA and crosslinked polystyrene were identified at the wavenumber of $1000cm^{-1}$ and $2900cm^{-1}$ respectively.
Hot dip aluminizing (HDA) is widely used in industry for improving corrosion resistance of material. The formation of intermetallic compound layers during the contact between dissimilar materials at high temperature is common phenomenon. Generally, intermetallic compound layers of $Fe_2Al_5$ and $FeAl_3$ are formed at the Al alloy and Fe substrate interface. In case of cast iron, high contact angle of graphite existed in the matrix inhibits the formation of intermetallic compound layer, which carry with it the disadvantage of a reduced reaction area and mechanical properties. In present work, the process for the removal of graphite existed on the surface of specimen has been investigated. And also HDA was proceeded at $800^{\circ}C$ for 3 minutes in aluminum alloy melt. The efficiency of graphite removal was increased with the reduction of particle size in sanding process. Graphite appears to be present both in the region of melting followed by re-solidification and in the intermetallic compound layer, which could be attributed to the fact that the surface of cast iron is melted down by the formation of low melting point phase with the diffusion of Al and Si to the cast iron. Intermetallic compound layer consisted of $Fe(Al,Si)_3$ and $Fe_2Al_5Si$, the layer formed at cast iron side contained lower amount of Si.
Microstructure of aluminum alloys produced by the different mixing ratio of secondary ingot made by aluminum UBC (used beverage can) and virgin aluminum was investigated. The phase transitions of casted ingot by heat treatment were also studied. The alloys were melted at the electric resistance furnace, then casted using ceramic filter. Homogenization heat treatment was conducted at $615^{\circ}C$ for 10hrs to control cast microstructure. There were several kinds of phases, in as-cast condition, such as $\alpha$($Al_{12}$$((Fe,Mn)_3$Si), $\beta$($Al_{6}$ (Fe,Mn)), and fine $Mg_2$Si phases. Especially, the amount of $\beta$-phase which was harmful in forming process was large. The $\beta$-Phase formed was transformed to u-phase by heat treatment. The fine $Mg_2$Si in the aluminum matix was also transformed to $\alpha$-phase by this heat treatment. Impurities filtered during casting process were identified as intermetallic compounds of Fe, Cu, Si.
High purity Al2O3 has been extracted from serlcite of clayminerals, selicite was treated by H2SO4(2N∼18N) solution, NH4OH treatment(PH8.5∼10.0) and metallic impurities such as Fe were removed by NaOH treatment. The tendency of extraction yield of ${\alpha}$-Al2O3 have been investigated by relating reaction time, acid concentration. Reaction products were analyzed by DT-TGA, chemical analysis and X-ray diffractometer. Prepared ${\alpha}$-Al2O3 power is fired in air at 1400$^{\circ}C$, 1600$^{\circ}C$ 2hr. The results are as follows; 1. The most suitable extracting conditions of ${\alpha}$-Al2O3 from Selicite were N-H2SO4, 120 min acidtreating time. 2. The optimum pH condition was 9.0. 3. Physical properties of sintered Al2O3 bodies were as follows. Relative density is 99%. Water absorption is 0.26%. Rock well hardness is 89.
