The Haman mineralized area is located within the Cretaceous Gyeongsang Basin along the southeastern part of the Korean peninsula. Almost all occurrences in the Haman area are representative of copper-bearing polymetallic hydrothermal vein-type mineralization. Within the area are a number of fissure-filling hydrothermal veins which contain tourmaline, quartz and carbonates with Fe-oxide, base-metal sulfide and sulfosalt minerals. The Gunbuk, Jeilgunbuk and Haman mines are each located on such veins. The ore and gangue mineral paragenesis can be divided into three distinct stages: Stage I, tourmaline + quartz + Fe-Cu ore mineralization; Stage II, quartz + sulfides + sulfosalts + carbonates; Stage III, barren calcite. Equilibrium thermodynamic data combined with mineral paragenesis indicate that copper minerals precipitated mainly within a temperature range of $350^{\circ}C$ to $250^{\circ}C$. During early mineralization at $350^{\circ}C$, significant amounts of copper ($10^3$ to $10^2\;ppm$) could be dissolved in weakly acid NaCl solutions. For late mineralization at $250^{\circ}C$, about $10^0$ to $10^{-1}\;ppm$ copper could be dissolved. Equilibrium thermodynamic interpretation indicates that the copper in the Haman-Gunbuk systems could have been transported as a chloride complex and the copper precipitation occurred as a result of cooling accompanied by changes in the geochemical environments ($fs_2$, $fo_2$, pH, etc.) resulting in decrease of solubility of copper chloride complexes.
This study was carried out to investigate into the dyeability of ramie fabrics using the extract of native plant, red-dye madder (Rubia akane Nakai) in different conditions. Surface color of ramie fabrics dyed with extracts from red-dye madder plants showed an order of descent YR. However, it was changed by the different mordants. Surface color of ramie fabrics treated with FeSO$_4$, SnCl$_4$, and tartaric acid was an order of descent Y, and that treated with the ashes of common camellia, and bean straw was an order of descent R. At higher temperatures, surface color and coloring matter concentration of ramie fabrics were as follows that values of a increased, however, values of b decreased and values of L lowered. Coloring matter concentration increased in the order of 7$0^{\circ}C$, 9$0^{\circ}C$, and 6$0^{\circ}C$, and so on. Dyeing colors on the ramie fabrics showed an order of descent Y by pH 4 and 9 in dyestuffs solutions. Coloring matter concentration in terms of K/S values, more or less, was increased at strong acids. Surface color by the concentration of dyestuffs solutions showed an order of descent YR irrelevant to the concentration of dyestuffs solutions. Coloring matter concentration was increased at higher concentrations of dyestuffs solutions. Ten minutes was sufficient for the dyeing of ramie fabrics in terms of surface color and coloring matter concentration.
To chemically prepare polypyrrole(pPy) coated fabrics(silk, cotton and nylon fabrics), the fabrics were first soaked in 0.4M oxidant $FeCl_3$/0.06M dopant anthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid solution for 5min at room temperature, and subsequently soaked in a 0.4M monomer pyrrole aqueous solution for 5min at room temperature. The content(wt%) of coated pPy in the coated fabrics was controlled by the number of treatments(these two steps). This study examined the effect of the number of treatments/pPy content on the sheet resistance, mechanical/bending properties and color behaviors of pPy coated fabrics. The coated pPy content, sheet resistance(${\Omega}$/square) and color strength(K/S) of pPy coated fabrics increased sharply with increasing number of treatments up to 20 times, while the increase slowed down afterward. The tensile strength, elongation at break and lightness($L^*$) decreased with increasing number of treatments. The tensile modulus and bending rigidity of coated fabrics increased significantly with increasing number of treatments/coated pPy content. This indicated that the flexibility of coated fabrics decreased considerably.
Nitrogen (N)-doped ordered mesoporous carbons (OMCs) with a dual transition metal system were synthesized as non-Pt catalysts for the ORR. The highly nitrogen doped OMCs were prepared by the precursor of ionic liquid (3-methyl-1-butylpyridine dicyanamide) for N/C species and a mesoporous silica template for the physical structure. Mostly, N-doped carbons are promoted by a single transition metal to improve catalytic activity for ORR in PEMFCs. In this study, our N-doped mesoporous carbons were promoted by the dual transition metals of iron and cobalt (Fe, Co), which were incorporated into the N-doped carbons lattice by subsequently heat treatments. All the prepared carbons were characterized by via transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). To evaluate the activities of synthesized doped carbons, linear sweep was recorded in an acidic solution to compare the ORR catalytic activities values for the use in the PEMFC system. The dual transition metal promotion improved the ORR activity compared with the single transition metal promotion, due to the increase in the quaternary nitrogen species from the structural change by the dual metals. The effect of different ratio of the dual metals into the N doped carbon were examined to evaluate the activities of the oxygen reduction reaction.

This study was designed to investigate the antioxidant effects of dietary xanthophylls supplementation in broiler breast and thigh meat homogenates during incubation at 37$^{\circ}C$ for 0, 2, 4, 8, 16 hours respectively. Experimental treatments were divided into control, lutein, canthaxanthin, astaxanthin and capxanthin fed meats. The supplementation levels of to chicks were adjusted to 30 ppm in feeds. The 30 ${\mu}$M FeCl$_3$ and 100 ${\mu}$M ascorbic acid were added to meat homogenates in order to catalyze lipid oxidation. In breast meat homogenates, the TBARS(O.D) of all treatments at 2 hour was significantly(p〈0.05) increase. In thigh meat homogenates, the highest TBARS(O.D) value of all treatments appeared at 16 hour incubation and TBARS(O.D) value of all treatments was significantly(p〈0.05) lower than that control during incubation time. The TBARS(O.D) of lutein treatment in breast meat homogenate at 8 hour and 16 hour were significantly(p〈0.05) lower than those of treatments. Also, astaxanthin treated in thigh meat homogenate of the 2 hour and 4 hour and lutein treatment in thigh meat homogenate at 8 hour and 16 hour were significantly(p〈0.05) lower than other treatments. In conclusion, dietary xanthophyll treatments in breast and thigh meat homogenates showed more antioxidant effect to lipid oxidation than control. Especially, lipid oxidation inhibited significantly in lutein fed breast meat, and lutein and astaxanthin fed thigh meat homogenates.
Burkholderia anthina R-4183, Burkholderia diffusa R-15930 and Burkholderia stabilis LMG 14294 isolated from green house soils (Gongju-Gun area, South Korea) were characterized and their phosphate solubilizing ability was assessed. Under in vitro culture conditions, all three species were proved to be effective in solubilizing phosphates in varying degrees. Strain Burkholderia anthina exhibited the highest phosphate solubilization in NBRIP medium ($665{\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$) followed by Burkholderia diffusa ($630{\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$) and Burkholderia stabilis ($578{\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$). However, solubilization of $FePO_4$ and $AlPO_4$ was found to be poor in all the strains. Acidification by means of gluconic and oxalic acids accumulation in the culture medium could be the possible mechanism responsible for phosphate solubilization. Glucose at the rate of 3% was found be the best carbon source for Burkholderia anthina while other two Burkholderia species showed maximum phosphate solubilization at 2% of glucose. In the case of nitrogen sources, ammonium and nitrate were equally effective in solubilizing phosphates by Burkholderia species. Despite a slight decrease in phosphate solubilization observed at increasing temperature, all three Burkholderia species could withstand a temperature of $30-35^{\circ}C$, pH at the range of 7-9 and the presence of NaCl (up to 2.5%) without much compromising the phosphate solubilization. As shown with potted mung bean seedlings, all the three isolates could enhance soil fertility and plant growth indicating their great potential to be used as bio-inoculants.

A total of 328 ambient PM-10 samples was collected by a PM-10 high volume air sampler during the periods of February 1997 to February 1999 from Kyung Hee University at Suwon Campus. The samples were analyzed for their bulk chemical compositions(Cu, Fe, Pb, Zn, Al, $Na^{+}$, $NH_{4}^{+}$, $K^{+}$, $Ca^{2+]$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Cl^{-}$, $NO_{3}^{-}$, and $SO_{4}^{2-}$ by both an atomic absorption spectrophotometer and an ion chromatograph. The purpose of this study was t develop a receptor methodology for quantitative assessment of PM-10 sources. The data obtained from this study were ex-tensively examined using the target transformation factor analysis(TTFA) and the chemical mass balance (CMB). When TTFA was initially applied seasonal basis. five sources(such as automobile-related, sulfate-related, incine-ration, soil and combustion-related) were identified both during winter and fall. Since the total number and the type of sources were resolved by TTFA for the four seasons, CMB was employed to cross-check the results of TTEA. The total of six source categories identified by TTEA was intensively investigated on the basis of source profiles acquired from various source libraries established both in Korea and abroad. The results of this study showed the applicability of two popular receptor models as a new methdology for quantitative assessment PM-10 sources in Korea. Seasonally segmented data sets with the combined application of TTFA and CMB yielded a physically reasonable source apportionment result and provided a mean to increase the number of potential sources. Furthermore, this study suggested the possibility of the CMB application to ambi-ent data from Korea after identifying potential sources through traditional factor analysis.
$17{\alpha}$-Ethynylestradiol (EE2) has gotten growing concerns due to its widely detected in the environment and high estrogenic potency. However, the knowledge on the photochemical behaviors of EE2 in natural waters is still limited. Herein, the photodegradation and estrogenic potency variation of EE2 induced by nitrate were studied using a sunlight simulator consisted by a 300 W medium pressure mercury lamp and 290 nm cut-off filters. It was found that EE2 could be photodegraded at a rate of $0.0193h^{-1}$ in pure aqueous solutions, and the photodegradation of EE2 could be significantly promoted by nitrate. The photodegradation removal rate of EE2 was increased from 9% in Milli-Q water to 85% in 2.0 mM nitrate solutions. Reactive species scavenging experiments demonstrated that the photogenerated $HO{\bullet}$ contributed about 55% to EE2 degradation. Fe(III), Cl- and dissolved humic acid (DHA) could inhibit the photodegradation of EE2 by competing the incident light and photogenerated $HO{\bullet}$, while $HCO_3{^-}$ had no influence on EE2 photodegradation. EE2 was determined to be phototransformed into organic chemicals without estrogenic potency by GC-MS and MCF-7 cell proliferation toxicity tests. These findings could extend our knowledge on the photochemical behaviors of steroid estrogens and provide information for ecological risk assessment.
In this study, an empirical relationship between the energy band gap of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and synthesis parameters in a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) reactor using factorial design of experiment was established. A bimetallic (Fe-Ni) catalyst supported on $CaCO_3$ was synthesized via wet impregnation technique and used for MWCNT growth. The effects of synthesis parameters such as temperature, time, acetylene flow rate, and argon carrier gas flow rate on the MWCNTs energy gap, yield, and aspect ratio were investigated. The as-prepared supported bimetallic catalyst and the MWCNTs were characterized for their morphologies, microstructures, elemental composition, thermal profiles and surface areas by high-resolution scanning electron microscope, high resolution transmission electron microscope, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, thermal gravimetry analysis and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller. A regression model was developed to establish the relationship between band gap energy, MWCNTs yield and aspect ratio. The results revealed that the optimum conditions to obtain high yield and quality MWCNTs of 159.9% were: temperature ($700^{\circ}C$), time (55 min), argon flow rate ($230.37mL\;min^{-1}$) and acetylene flow rate ($150mL\;min^{-1}$) respectively. The developed regression models demonstrated that the estimated values for the three response variables; energy gap, yield and aspect ratio, were 0.246 eV, 557.64 and 0.82. The regression models showed that the energy band gap, yield, and aspect ratio of the MWCNTs were largely influenced by the synthesis parameters and can be controlled in a CVD reactor.
