Magnetic properties of $(Nd_{1-x}R_x)_2Fe_{14}B$ (R=Y, Pr) ($(Nd_{1-x}R_x)_2Fe_{14}B$ (R=Y, Pr)의 자기특성)

  • Spin reorientation and magnetocrystalline anisotropy of magnetically aligned $(Nd_{1-x}R_x)_2Fe_{14}B$ (R=Y, Pr) power were studied. The spin reorientation temperature $(T_{SR})$ of $(Nd_{1-x}R_x)_2Fe_{14}B$ decreases linearly by increasing Pr-substitution with the ratio of ${\Delta}T_{SR}=-1.35$ K/Pr at.% in composition range of 0$\leq$x$\leq$0.75. The spin reorientation temperature of $(Nd_{1-x}R_x)_2Fe_{14}B$ decreases by increasing Pr-substitution to 118 K (x=0.5) then increases to 122 K (x=0.75). The spin reorientation angle at 4.2 K decreases by increasing rare earth substitution with the ratio of $\Delta$SRA=-0.073$^{\circ}$/Y at.% and $\Delta$SRA=-0.258$^{\circ}$/Pr at.% in composition range of 0$\leq$x$\leq$0.5. The spin reorientation is expected to disappear at x$\geq$0.9 in case of $(Nd_{1-x}R_x)_2Fe_{14}B$ and at x$\geq$0.8 in case of $(Nd_{1-x}R_x)_2Fe_{14}B$.

Metal Reduction and Mineral formation by fe(III)-Reducing Bacteria Isolated from Extreme Environments (철환원 박테리아에 의한 금속 환원 및 광물형성)

  • Microbial metal reduction influences the biogeochemical cycles of carbon and metals as well as plays an important role in the bioremediation of metals, radionuclides, and organic contaminants. The use of bacteria to facilitate the production of magnetite nanoparticles and the formation of carbonate minerals may provide new biotechnological processes for material synthesis and carbon sequestration. Metal-reducing bacteria were isolated from a variety of extreme environments, such as deep terrestrial subsurface, deep marine sediments, water near Hydrothemal vents, and alkaline ponds. Metal-reducing bacteria isolated from diverse extreme environments were able to reduce Fe(III), Mn(IV), Cr(VI), Co(III), and U(VI) using short chain fatty acids and/or hydrogen as the electron donors. These bacteria exhibited diverse mineral precipitation capabilities including the formation of magnetite ($Fe_3$$O_4$), siderite ($FeCO_3$), calcite ($CaCO_3$), rhodochrosite ($MnCO_3$), vivianite [$Fe_3$($PO_4$)$_2$ .$8H_2$O], and uraninite ($UO_2$). Geochemical and environmental factors such as atmospheres, chemical milieu, and species of bacteria affected the extent of Fe(III)-reduction as well as the mineralogy and morphology of the crystalline iron mineral phases. Thermophilic bacteria use amorphous Fe(III)-oxyhydroxide plus metals (Co, Cr, Ni) as an electron acceptor and organic carbon as an electron donor to synthesize metal-substituted magnetite. Metal reducing bacteria were capable of $CO_2$conversion Into sparingly soluble carbonate minerals, such as siderite and calcite using amorphous Fe(III)-oxyhydroxide or metal-rich fly ash. These results indicate that microbial Fe(III)-reduction may not only play important roles in iron and carbon biogeochemistry in natural environments, but also be potentially useful f3r the synthesis of submicron-sized ferromagnetic materials.

Phase transformation and magnetic properties of NiFe thin films on Si(100) wafer and SiO2/Si(100) substrate by co-sputtering (Si(100) wafer와 SiO2/Si(100) 기판에 동시 스퍼터링법으로 증착된 NiFe 합금 박막의 상변화 및 자기적 특성)

  • Ni-Fe alloys have various applications such as thin film inductor, thin film transformer, magnetic head's shield case, etc. Magnetic properties of Ni-Fe thin films depend on the process parameters such as thickness, contents, deposition rate, substrates, etc. In this study, NiFe films with a thickness of about 150nm were deposited on Si(100) wafer and $SiO_2$/Si(100) substrate at room temperature by a DC magnetron co-sputtering using Fe and Ni targets. Their phase formation and magnetic properties as a function of annealing temperature were investigated with XRD, FE-SEM and VSM. The assputtered films have BCC structure. With increasing annealing temperature, NiFe thin film for $SiO_2$/Si(100) substrate transformed completely from BCC to FCC phase above $500^{\circ}C$, but some BCC phase remained above $500^{\circ}C$ on Si(100) wafer. For samples annealed at $450^{\circ}C$, squareness ratio of NiFe thin film shows peak value and its saturation magnetization is around 0.0118 emu, which means that the optimum annealing temperature of NiFe thin film seems to be $450^{\circ}C$. The saturation magnetization of films decreased rapidly above the annealing temperature of $500^{\circ}C$ due to phase transformation from BCC to FCC phase.

Effects of Composition on Soft Magnetic Properties and Microstructures of Fe-Hf-O Thin Films (Fe - Hf - O계 박막에서 조성이 미세구조 및 연자기 특성에 미치는 효과)

  • The microstructure and soft magnetic properties of as-deposited Fe-Hf-O thin film alloys, which are produced at $P_{O2}=10%$ by rf magnetron sputtering method in $Ar+O_2$ mixed gas atmosphere, is investigated. Newly developed $Fe_{82}Hf_{3.4}O_{14.6}$ film exhibits good soft magnetic properties with $4{\pi}M_s=17.7$ kG, $H_c=0.7$ Oe and ${\mu}_{eff}$(0.5~100MHz)=2,500, respectively. The Fe-Hf-O films are composed of $\alpha$-Fe nanograins and amorphous phase with larger amounts of Hf and O elements which chemically combine each other. With increasing Hf area fraction, Hf and O contents increased proportionally. It was considered that O content in films was determined by Hf contents, because O was chemically combined with Hf. It results from decreasing the $\alpha$-Fe grain size by precipitates (Hf and O), high electrical resistivity. The $Fe_{82}Hf_{3.4}O_{14.6}$ film exhibits the quality factor (Q=$\mu$'/$\mu$") of 25 at 20 MHz. These good frequency characteristics are considered to be superior to other films already reported.o other films already reported.

Effects of Iron from an Amino Acid Complex on the Iron Status of Neonatal and Suckling Piglets

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of iron from an amino acid complex (Availa-$Fe^{\circledR}$) on the iron status of neonatal and suckling piglets. A total of 24 gestating sows (Landrace${\times}$Large White) were randomly allocated to three dietary treatments. The control diet contained 80 mg $kg^{-1}$ Fe from ferrous sulfate heptahydrate ($FeSO_4$.$7H_2O$), while the two experimental diets were supplemented with an additional 120 mg $kg^{-1}$ Fe from Availa-$Fe^{(R)}$ or $FeSO_4$.$7H_2O$, respectively. The lactating sows remained the same iron treatments as gestating sows, while neonatal piglets of 24 litters born from the above sows were allotted to another three treatments. Piglets from the sows of the control treatment were fed basal diet with no supplemental Fe as control treatment, but were injected with 100 mg Fe as Fe dextran at birth. Piglets from the sows of Availa-$Fe^{(R)}$ or $FeSO_4$.$7H_2O$ treatments were supplemented with 120 mg $kg^{-1}$ iron from Availa-$Fe^{(R)}$ or $FeSO_4$.$7H_2O$, respectively. The total born alive and weaned, and the average piglets weight at birth and at weaning were not significantly affected by the sow' dietary treatments (p>0.05). Iron from Availa-$Fe^{(R)}$ did not demonstrate a statistically significant improvement in hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit and plasma iron of sows on day 90 and 105 of pregnancy and the milk iron of sows during lactation (p>0.05). Neonatal piglets in the Availa-$Fe^{(R)}$ treatment had a significantly higher hemoglobin concentration (p<0.05) and higher hematocrit and plasma iron (p>0.05) than those in the other two treatments, respectively. The hemoglobin of suckling piglets in the Availa-$Fe^{(R)}$ treatment was higher than that of piglets in $FeSO_4$.$7H_2O$ treatment on day 28 (p<0.05). The total iron binding capacity of piglets in Availa-$Fe^{(R)}$ treatment was lower than that of piglets in the control and $FeSO_4$.$7H_2O$ treatment on day 14 (p<0.05), but there was not a statistically significant difference among three treatments on day 28 (p>0.05). However, the hemoglobin and hematocrit of suckling piglets injected with Fe were higher than those of piglets in the other two treatments (p<0.05). This study indicated that the addition of 120 mg $kg^{-1}$ iron from amino acid complex into the diets improved iron status of neonatal and nursing piglets more effectively than the addition of 120 mg $kg^{-1}$ iron from $FeSO_4$.$7H_2O$, however, this improvement of the organic Fe was not sufficient to replace the Fe injection for prevention of iron-deficiency anemia.

  • thermochemical methane reforming consisting of two steps on Cu/Fe/Zr mixed oxide media was carried out using a fixed bed infrared reactor. In the first step, the metal oxide was reduced with methane to produce CO, $H_2$ and the reduced metal oxide in the temperature of 1173 K. In the second step, the reduced metal oxide was re-oxidized with steam to produce $H_2$ and the metal oxide in the temperature of 973 K. The reaction characteristics on the added amounts of Cu in Cu/Fe/Zr mixed oxide media and the cyclic tests were evaluated. With the increase of the added amount of Cu in Cu/Fe/Zr mixed oxide media, the conversion of $CH_4$, the selectivity of $CO_2$ and the $H_2/CO$ molar ratio were increased, while the selectivity of CO was decreased in the first step. On the other hand, the evolved amount of $H_2$ was decreased with increasing the added amount of Cu in the second step. The $Cu_xFe_{3-x}O_4/ZrO_2$ medium added with Cu of x = 0.7 showed good regeneration properties in the 10th cyclic tests indicating that the medium had high durability. In addition, the gasification of the deposited carbon in the water splitting step was promoted with the addition of Cu in the media.

A Study on the Magnetic Anisotrpy and Magnetoresistive Characteristics of NiFe/Cu/Co Trilayers (NiFe/Cu/Co 삼층막의 자기이방성과 자기저항 특성에 관한 연구)

  • NiFe($60\;{\AA}$)/Cu($60\;{\AA}$)/Co($30\;{\AA}$) trilayers were formed on the $4^{\circ}$ tilt-cut Si(111) substrate by rf magnetron sputtering method. With a Cu($50\;{\AA}$) underlayer, NiFe($60\;{\AA}$)/Cu($60\;{\AA}$)/Co($30\;{\AA}$) trilayers developed in-plane magnebc anisotropy and in-plane perpendicular alignment of easy axes in two magnetic components of NiFe($60\;{\AA}$)/Cu($60\;{\AA}$)/Co($30\;{\AA}$) trilayers has been found. The easy axis of Co layer consisbng of NiFe($60\;{\AA}$)/Cu($60\;{\AA}$)/Co($30\;{\AA}$) trilayers turned out to be along $4^{\circ}$ tilt Si <112> direcbon and that of NiFe layer along Si <110> direction. [NiFe($60\;{\AA}$)/Cu($60\;{\AA}$)/Co($30\;{\AA}$)]/Cu($50\;{\AA}$)/Si(111, $4^{\circ}$ tiIt-cut) trilayers showed about 2.2 % MR ratio at room temperature and large plateau in MR curves, which are more improved MR characteristics than those in [NiFe($60\;{\AA}$)/Cu($60\;{\AA}$)/Co($30\;{\AA}$)]/Cu($50\;{\AA}$)/glass trilayers with no appreciable magnetic anisotropy.

Effect of Strip-cast Conditions on the Formation of Microstructures in Nd-Fe-B alloys (Strip-cast 조건이 Nd-Fe-B 합금의 미세조직 형성에 미치는 영향)

  • In order to improve the microstructure of the strip cast Nd-Fe-B alloys that are frequently used for production of high energy sintered magnets, influence of various strip casting conditions on the microstructure and phase formation and distribution were investigated. Nd-Fe-B strips consisting of microstructures suitable for preparation of high energy sintered magnets could be obtained when the wheel speed was below 5 m/s. The compositional limit that can avoid the crystallization of free iron in the as-cast state was estimated to be Nd$\_$14/Fe$\_$79/B$\_$7/. Regardless of the compositional variation, <001> preferred orientation of Nd$_2$Fe$\_$14/B normal to the strip surface was always occurred below 5 m/s, which would eventually enhance the grain alignment during pressing the powder under a magnetic field. While the coercivity of the strip cast alloys increased with the increase of the wheel speed, mainly due to the refinement of Nd$_2$Fe$\_$14/B grains, it decreased with the reduction of Nd content in the alloy composition as the formation of free iron increased.

  • The ferroelectric RAM (FeRAM) has a great advantage for a system on a chip (SOC) and mobile product memory, since FeRAM not only supports non-volatility but also delivers a fast memory access similar to that of DRAM and SRAM. This work develops at three levels: 1) low voltage operation with boost voltage control of bitline and plateline, 2) reducing bitline capacitance with multiple divided sub cell array, and 3) increasing chip performance with write operation sharing both active and precharge time period. The key techniques are implemented on the proposed hierarchy bitline scheme with proposed hybrid-bitline and high voltage boost control. The test chip and simulation results show the performance of sub-1.5 voltage operation with single step pumping voltage and self-boost control in a cell array block of 1024 ($64{\;}{\times}{\;}16$) rows and 64 columns.
