EuGa2S4와 Eu2Ga2S5 형광체의 발광 특성 (Photoluminescent Properties of EuGa2S4 and Eu2Ga2S5 Phosphors)

  • Eu2+ 활성제 이온의 농도가 100% 이므로 농도 소광 효과가 없는 EuGa2S4와 Eu2Ga2S5 형광체를 800~1050 ℃의 온도 범위에서 고상법으로 합성하였다. EuGa2S4와 Eu2Ga2S5 형광체의 최대 발광 세기의 파장(λmax)은 각각 546과 581 nm이다. X-선 회절 패턴 및 발광 특성을 조사한 결과 EuGa2S4와 Eu2Ga2S5 형광체는 각각 낮은 온도 범위(800~900 ℃)와 높은 온도 범위(1000~1050 ℃)에서 형성됨을 확인하였다.

  • $SrGa_2S_4$:Eu는 녹색을 발광하는 형광체로 전계 방출 디스플레이, 음극선 발광 분야에 널리 응용되고 있다. 일반적으로 $SrGa_2S_4$:Eu의 합성은 $SrCO_3$,$Ga_2O_3$, 그리고 $Eu_2O_3$$H_2S$ 와 Ar 가스를 흘려주면서 고온에서 소송하는 고상반응법으로 합성하였다. 본 연구에서는 SrS, Eu 착물, 그리고 Ga 착물의 분해 반응을 통해서 $SrGa_2S_4$:Eu 형광체를 합성하였다. 이 방법의 장점은 Ar 가스 뿐 만 아니라 독성의 $H_2S$를 사용하지 않는 것이다. $SrGa_2S_4$:Eu 형광체의 합성 조건과 발광 특성을 검토하였다.

  • The luminescence intensity of calcium sulfide codoped with $Eu^{2+},\;Si^{4+}\;and\;Ga^{3+}$ was investigated as a function of the dopant concentration. An enhancement of the red luminescence resulted from the incorporation of $Si^{4+}\;and\;Ga^{3+}\;into\;CaS:Eu^{2+}.\;The\;non-codoped\;CaS:Eu^{2+}$ converted only 3.0% of the absorbed blue light into luminescence. As the $Si^{4+}\;and\;Ga^{3+}$ were embedded into the host lattice, the luminescence intensity increased and reached a maximum of Q = 10.0% at optimized concentrations of the codopants in CaS. Optimized CaS:$Eu^{2+},Si^{4+},Ga^{3+}$ phosphors were fabricated with blue GaN LED and the chromaticity index of the phosphor-formulated GaN LED was investigated as a function of the wt% of the optimized phosphor.

Cathodoluminescence and Longevity Properties of Potential Sr1-xMxGa2S4:Eu (M = Ba or Ca) Green Phosphors for Field Emission Displays

  • We report the cathodoluminescence and aging properties of a series of green phosphors of formula $Sr_{1-x}M_xGa_2S_4$:Eu (x = 0.0-1.0, M = Ba or Ca) that have potential applications in field emission displays (FEDs). The series of phosphors was synthesized via NaBr-aided solid-state reactions in a flowing $H_2S$ stream. A low level ($\sim$20%) of Ba or Ca substitution for Sr in $SrGa_2S_4$:Eu maintains the orthorhombic phase of pure $SrGa_2S_4$:Eu phosphors. Further, a low level ($\sim$20%) of Ba or Ca substitution for Sr in $SrGa_2S_4$:Eu provides various green colors and sufficient brightness for FED applications. Substitution of Ba or Ca for Sr in $SrGa_2S_4$:Eu also improved the stability of the phosphor when it was operated under electron-beam irradiation of 5 kV.

  • [ $II-III_2-(S,Se)_4$ ] structured of phosphor has been used at various field because those have high luminescent efficiency and broad emission band. Among these phosphors, the europium doped $BaGa_2S_4$ was prepared by solid-state method and had high potential application due to an emissive property of UV region. Also, the common sulfide phosphors were synthesized by using injurious $H_2S\;or\;CS_2$ gas. However, in this study $BaGa_2S_4:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor in addition to excess sulfur was prepared under at 5% $H_2/95%\;N_2$ reduction atmosphere. Thus, this process could be considered as large scale synthesis because of non-harmfulness and simplification. The photoluminescence efficiency of the prepared $BaGa_2S_4:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor increased 20% than that of commercial $SrGa_2S_4:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor. The prepared $BaGa_2S_4:Eu^{2+}$ could be applied to green phosphor for white LED of three wavelengths.

  • 기존의 $SrGa_2S_4:Eu^{2+}$ 녹색 발광 형광체는 주로 CRT (Cathode Ray Tube)용이나 FED (Field Emission Display), 그리고 EL (Electroluminescence)용 발광소자로 많이 연구되어졌다. 현재는 장파장 영역의 여기 특성을 이용한 LED (Light Emitting Diode)용 형광체로 주목 되어지고 있다. $SrGa_2S_4:Eu^{2+}$ 형광체의 일반적 합성 방법은 Flux를 이용하여 인체에 유해한 $H_2S$$CS_2$ 기체를 사용할 뿐만 아니라 높은 합성온도, 긴 반응시간 및 공정이 복잡한 단점을 지니고 있다. 따라서 본 실험은 황화물계 원료인 SrS, $Ga_2S_3$ 그리고 EuS를 출발 물질로 하여 $H_2S$ 기체를 사용하지 않고 혼합 기체$(5% H_2/95% N_2)$를 사용해 환원 분위기 하에서 $SrGa_2S_4:Eu^{2+}$을 합성하였다. 그리고 다양한 합성 조건과 LED용으로 사용되기 위해 수세처리와 Sieving 과정을 거친 형광체의 발광특성을 검토하였다.

사파장 백색 발광 다이오드의 발광 특성 (Luminescent Properties of Four-Band White Light Emitting Diodes)

  • 보라색 발광 다이오드에 의해 여기되어 청색, 녹색, 적색을 발광하는 형광체로 각각 $BaMg_2Al_16O_27:Eu,\SrGa_2S_4:Eu$, ZnCdS:Ag,Cl 형광체를 선택하였다. 보라색 발광 다이오드의 발광에서 형광체에 의해서 완전히 흡수되지 않고 나오는 보라색 발광과 $BaMg_2Al_16O_27:Eu,\SrGa_2S_4:Eu$, ZnCdS:Ag,Cl 형광체에서 나오는 청색, 녹색, 적색 발광을 조합하여 사파장 백색 발광 다이오드를 만들었다. 사파장 백색 발광 다이오드의 발광 특성을 확인하였다.

  • The photoluminescence and cathodoluminescence of $SrGa_2S_4:EU$ phosphor were optimized with the process and chemical variables (activators, fluxes and reaction temperature) used in solid state reaction. Firing the powder with flux at $800^{\circ}C$ for 2hr gave the highest photoluminescence efficiency under near-UV excitation and the highest cathodoluminescence efficiency of 20.1 lm/W at 2 kV and 33.3 lm/W at 10 kV. The suitability of $SrGa_2S_4:EU$ for application as a phosphor in LCDs and FEDs is discussed.
