방전 플라즈마 소결법을 이용한 CoSb3계 열전재료의 전극 접합 및 특성 (Joining and properties of electrode for CoSb3 thermoelectric materials prepared by a spark plasma sintering method)

  • 중고온용 열전 소재로 우수한 특성을 나타내는 $CoSb_3$계 소재의 열전 소자 제조를 위해 방전플라즈마 소결법을 이용하여 소결 및 Cu-Mo 전극 소재와의 접합을 동시에 실시하였다. $CoSb_3$ 내부로의 Cu 확산을 방지하기 위해 Ti을 중간층으로 삽입하였으며 열팽창계수의 조절을 위해 Cu : Mo = 3 : 7 부피비 조성을 선택하였다. 삽입된 Ti과 $CoSb_3$$TiSb_2$ 이 차상을 형성하면서 접합이 진행되었지만 접합 온도 및 접합 시간의 증가에 따라 TiSb 및 TiCoSb 등의 상의 형성에 의해 접합 계면에서 균열이 발생되어 접합 특성을 악화시키는 것으로 밝혀졌다.

  • [ $Co_{1-x}Fe_xSb_3$ ] skutterudites were synthesized by encapsulated induction melting and their thermoelectric properties were investigated. Single phase ${\delta}-CoSb_3$ was successfully obtained by the subsequent heat treatment at 773 K for 24 hours in vacuum. However, ${\delta}-CoSb_3$ was decomposed to FeSb2 and Sb when $x{\leq}0.3$, which means that the solubility limit of Fe to Co is x<0.3. The positive signs of Seebeck coefficients for all Fe-doped specimens revealed that Fe atoms acted as p-type dopants by substituting Co atoms. Thermoelectric properties were remarkably enhanced by Fe doping and optimum composition was found to be $Co_{0.7}Fe_{0.3}Sb_3$ in this study.

  • $CoSb_3$-based skutterudite compounds are candidate materials for thermoelectric power generation in the mid-temperature range (600 - 900 K) because their thermoelectric properties can be enhanced by doping and filling. The joining property of thermoelectric module electrodes containing thermoelectric materials is of great importance because it can dominate the efficiency of the thermoelectric module. This study examined the properties of $CoSb_3$/Al/Ti/CuMo joined by the spark plasma sintering technique. Titanium thin foil was used to prevent the diffusion of copper into $CoSb_3$ and Aluminum thin foil was used to improve the adhesion between $CoSb_3$ and Ti. The insertion of an Aluminum interlayer between the Ti and $CoSb_3$ was effective for joining $CoSb_3$ to Ti by forming an intermediate layer at the Al-$CoSb_3$ boundary without any micro cracks. Specifically, the adhesion strength of the Ti/Al/$CoSb_3$ joining interface showed a remarkable improvement compared with our previous results, without deterioration of electrical property in the interface.

  • 본 연구는 ZnO-Bi2O3-Co3O4-MnCo3-Cr2O3-Sb2O3를 기본 조성으로 하여 Sb2O3 첨가량(0-0.09mol%) 변화에 따른 grain size와 미세구조 특성을 고찰하고자 하였다. Sb2O3가 첨가되지 않은 조성은 이상 입자 성장에 의해 거대한 ZnO grain이 생성되었으며, Sb2O3를 첨가한 조성은 Zn7Sb2O12 spinel상 생성으로 입자 성장이 억제되어 이상입자 성장이 관찰되지 않았다. Sb2O3 첨가량 증가에 따라 ZnO grain size가 현격하게 감소하였으며 그 미세구조는 조밀하고 균일한 크기의 grain분포를 나타내었다.

  • SB31, an extract of Pulsatilla koreana, has been tried as an antitumor agent by traditional medicine pratitioner in Korea for the past 30 years, SB31 was evaluated for cytotoxic and antitumor activity against a variety of cancer cell lines. The SB31 exhibited 5-6 fold less cytotoxic activity against normal mononuclear cells (ED$\sub$50/. 1.1 mg/$m\ell$) than against cancer cell lines (ED$\sub$50/ 0.14-0.19mg/$m\ell$). (omitted)

  • Effects of 1.0 mol% CoO addition on sintering and the electrical properties of ZnO-Bi2O3-Sb2O3(ZBS) varistor system with 3.0 mol% co-addition of Sb2O3 and Bi2O3 at various Sb/Bi ratio (0.5, 1.0, and 2.0) were investigated. Cobalt had little influence on the liquid-phase formation and the pyrochlore decomposition temepratures of ZBS, while densification was mainly dependent on Sb/Bi ratio: when Sb/Bi=0.5, excess Bi2O3 irrelevant to the formation of pyrochore(Zn2Sb3Bi3O14) forms eutectic liquid at ~75$0^{\circ}C$ which promotes densification and grain growth; with Sb/Bi=2.0, the second phase Zn7Sb2O12 formed by excess Sb2O3 irrelevant to the formation of the pyrochlore retards densification up to ~100$0^{\circ}C$. These phases caused the coarsening and uneven distribution of the second phase particles on the grain boundaries of ZnO above the pyrochlore decomposition temperature(~105$0^{\circ}C$), which led to broad size dist-ribution of ZnO; the specimen with Sb/Bi=1.0 showed homogeneous microstructure compared with the others, which enabled improved varistor characteristics. Doping of Co increased the nonlinearity and the potential barrier height of ZBS, which is thought to stem from improved sintering behavior such as homogenized microstructure due to size reduction and even distribution of the second phase and suppressed volatility of Bi2O3, as well as the improvement in the potential barrier structure via increased donor and interface electron trap densities.

소결온도와 Sb/Bi 비가 ZnO-Bi2O3-Sb2O3-Co3O4 바리스터의 미세구조와 입계 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Sintering Temperature and Sb/Bi Ratio on Microstructure and Grain Boundary Properties of ZnO-Bi2O3-Sb2O3-Co3O4 Varistor)

  • In this study we aims to evaluate the effects of 1/3 mol% $Co_3O_4$ addition on the reaction, microstructure development, resultant electrical properties, and especially the bulk trap and grain boundary properties of $ZnO-Bi_2O_3-Sb_2O_3$ (Sb/Bi=2.0, 1.0, and 0.5) system (ZBS). The samples were prepared by conventional ceramic process, and characterized by XRD, density, SEM, I-V, impedance and modulus spectroscopy (IS & MS) measurement. In addition of $Co_3O_4$ in $ZnO-Bi_2O_3-Sb_2O_3$ (ZBSCo), the phase development, density, and microstructure were controlled by Sb/Bi ratio. Pyrochlore on cooling was reproduced in all systems. The more homogeneous microstructure was obtained in ZBSCo (Sb/Bi=1.0) system. In ZBSCo, the varistor characteristics were improved drastically (non-linear coefficient ${\alpha}$=23~50) compared to ZBS. Doping of $Co_3O_4$ to ZBS seemed to form $V^{\cdot}_o$(0.33 eV) as dominant defect. From IS & MS, especially the grain boundary of Sb/Bi=0.5 system is composed of electrically single barrier (0.93 eV) and somewhat sensitive to ambient oxygen with temperature.

  • $ZnO-Bi_2O_3-CoO-Sb_2O_3$$ZnO-Bi_2O_3-CoO-Sb_2O_3-Cr_2O_3$계에서 미세구조 변화 및 전기적 특성에 미치는 개재물의 영향을 조사하였다. 소결동안에 ZnO입자 성장은 스피넬 입자들에 의해 제어되었으며, 스피넬 입자들의 양의 증가에 의해 입자성장은 감소하였다. $Cr_2O_3(0.5mol\%)$의 첨가는 비직선성지수에는 큰 영향을 미치지 못하였으며 임계전압(breakdown voltage)을 증가시켰다. 계산에 의해 구한 장벽전압은 $ZnO-Bi_2O_3-CoO-Sb_2O_3$$ZnO-Bi_2O_3-CoO-Sb_2O_3-Cr_2O_3$ 계에서 각각 3.1V와 2.9V이었다.

  • Sintering behavior, distribution of dopant oxides and electrical properties in the ZnO-Bi2O3-CoO-Sb2O3 and ZnO-Bi2O3-CoO-Sb2O3-Cr2O3 systems were studied. The linear shrinkage of ZnO varistors from 850 to 950$^{\circ}C$ was related to the decomposition reaction (py\longrightarrowsp+Bi2O3) of the pyrochlore phase. In the distribution of the dopant oxides (CoO, Sb2O3, Cr2O3), Co distribute uniformly throughout the sample, the distribution of Sb coincided with small particles (spinel phase, Zn7Sb2O12), and Cr distributed very consistently with Sb. The increase in breakdown voltage, due to the addition of Cr2O3, was not only attributed to the decrease in the ZnO grain size but also to the solution of Cr2O3 in the spinel phase. The leakage current (80% V60 ${\mu}\textrm{A}$) was increased by the addition of Cr2O3.
