  • Background: Helicobacter pylori is now recognized as a causative factor of chronic gastritis, gastroduodenal ulcers, gastric cancer and mucosa-associated lymphatic tissue lymphoma. Toll-like receptors are important bacterial receptors in gastric epithelial cell signaling transduction and play critical roles in gastric carcinogenesis. Materials and Methods: A total of 400 patients undergoing esophagogastroduodenoscopy for investigation of chronic abdominal pain were genotyped for single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in TLR1 (rs4833095) using TagMan SNPs genotyping assay by real-time PCR hybridization. Relationships with susceptibility to H. pylori infection and pre-malignant gastric mucosa morphological patterns, classified by magnifying NBI endoscopy, were investigated. Results: The percentages of TLR1 rs4833095, CC homozygous, CT heterozygous and TT homozygous cases were 34, 46.5 and 19%, respectively. CC showed statistical differences between H. pylori positive and negative cases (P<0.001). CT and TT correlated with type 1 and type 2 gastric mucosal morphological patterns (P <0.01) whereas CC correlated with types 3 and 4 (P<0.01). Conclusions: This study demonstrated good correlation of TLR1 rs4833095 genotype with severity of inflammation in H. pylori infected gastric mucosa according to gastric mucosal morphologic patterns with magnifying NBI endoscopy.

  • Hexagonal barium-ferrite ($BaFe_{12}O_{19}$, magnetoplumbite structure; BaM) film with perpendicularly c-axis orientation was successfully deposited on (100) silicon substrates with an MgO (111) underlayer by rf diode sputtering and in-situ heating at $920^{\circ}C$. The magnetic and structural properties of 0.27 ${\mu}m$ thick BaM films on MgO (111) underlayers were compared to films of the same thickness deposited onto single-crystal MgO (111) and c-plane ($000{\ell}$) sapphire ($Al_2O_3$) substrates by vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM), x-ray diffractometer (XRD), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The thickness dependence of MgO (111) underlayers on silicon wafer was found to have a large effect on both magnetic and structural properties of the BaM film. The thickness of 15 nm MgO (111) underlayers produced BaM films with almost identical magnetic and structural properties as the single-crystal substrates; this can be explained by the lower surface roughness for thinner underlayer thicknesses. The magnetization saturation ($M_s$) and the ratio $H_{cII}/H_{c{\bot}}$ for the BaM film with a 15 nm MgO (111) underlayer is 217 emu/cc and 0.24, respectively. This is similar to the results for the BaM films deposited on the single-crystal MgO (111) and sapphire substrates of 197 emu/cc and 0.10, 200 emu/cc and 0.12, respectively. Therefore, the proposed MgO (111) underlayer can be used in many applications to promote c-axis orientation without the cost of expensive substrates.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the effect of organic medicinal charcoal as a feed additive on aflatoxin absorption, odor emission, fecal microflora and in vitro digestibility in pig diet. A 10-day trial was conducted with 20 [(Yorkshire ${\times}$ Landrace) ${\times}$ Duroc] finishing pigs ($BW=81{\pm}3.3kg$) to investigate the population of Lactobacillus and E. coli in feces and fecal odor ($NH_3$, $H_2S$, total mercaptans, and Acetic acid) in vivo. The in vitro and in vivo treatments included: control (basal diet; CON); (basal diet + 0.25% Organic Medicinal Charcoal; OMC); (basal diet + 0.50% Pyroligneous Charcoal; PC); and (basal diet + 0.50% Coconut tree Charcoal; CC). The aflatoxin absorption capacity was 100, 10, and 20% in OMC, PC, and CC, respectively. The digestibility of dry matter in OMC was significantly higher than that of CON, PC, or CC in vitro (p < 0.05). The digestibility of organic matter in OMC was found to be significantly different from that of CON (p < 0.05). Fecal ammonia and $H_2S$ emissions of OMC were observed to be significantly lower than those of CON, PC, and CC (p < 0.05). Lactobacillus counts in feces of OMC and CC were significantly higher than those of CON and PC (p < 0.05). Fecal E. coli counts of OMC and CC were lower than those of CON and PC (p < 0.05). It was concluded that organic medicinal charcoal can be used as a feed additive in pig diets because it improves the digestibility of feed and fecal odor, and has positive effects on the population of microorganism in feces.

  • To investigate the surface state of $Mg_2Ni$ which was exposed to the air, a chemical treatment was undertaken with $H_2SO_4$ solution. During chemical treatment, the change of pH was measured continuously and the chemically treated specimen was hydrided to study the effect of chemical treatment on the hydrogenation. The pH changing behavior with the various $H_2SO_4$ concentration appeared very diffemrently. Especially in the solution including 3CC $H_2SO_4$, the behavior of pH change can be divided 3 steps. It is also shown that the $Mg_2Ni$ chemically treated with $H_2SO_4$ can be hydrided even under room temperature. By the SEM observation the was reasion that after chemical treatment the surface of a particle was covered with Ni layer.

  • The DFT and ab initio calculations have been performed to elucidate hydrogen interaction of hydrogen polyoxide dimers, $H_2O_n-H_2O_m$ (n=1-4, m=1-4). The optimized geometries, harmonic vibrational frequencies, and binding energies are predicted at various levels of theory. The harmonic vibrational frequencies of the molecules considered in this study show all real numbers implying true minima. The higher-order correlation effect were discussed to compare MP2 result with CCSD(T) single point energy. The binding energies were corrected for the zero-point vibrational energy (ZPVE) and basis set superposition errors (BSSE). The largest binding energy predicted at the CCSD(T)/cc-pVTZ level of theory is 8.18 kcal/mol for $H_2O_4-H_2O_3$ and the binding energy of water dimer is predicted to be 3.00 kcal/mol.

  • This study was intended to compare and evaluate the adhesion of High flowing Self-compacting Concrete (HSCC), Conventional Concrete (CC) and deformed bar based on concrete strength 3 (30, 50 and 70 MPa), among the factors affecting the bond strength between concrete and rebar, after fabricating the specimen by modifying the rebar position at Horizontal reinforcement at bottom position (HB), horizontal reinforcement at top position (HT) and vertical reinforcement type (V). As a result of measuring bond strength of HB/HT rebar to evaluate the factor of the rebar at top position, the bond strength of HB/HT rebar at 50 and 70 MPa was 1.3 or less and at 30 MPa, HSCC and CC appeared to be 1.2 and 2,1, respectively. Thus, when designing the anchorage length according to the concrete structure design standard (2007) at HSCC 30, 50 and 70 MPa, it would be desirable to reduce the correction factor of anchorage length of the horizontal reinforcement at top position, which is suggested for the reinforcement at top position, to less than 1.3 of CC.

  • Total body perfusion using Rygg-Kyvsgaard Heart-Lung-Machine, Mark IV, Polystan was attempted in the dogs by the hemodilution method with total prime of buffered Hartman's solution and under hypothermia. The first of all, the functions of Rygg--Kyvsgaard Heart-Lung-Machine and the effects of the hemodilution perfusion by buffered Hartman's solution was studied. At the same time the changes of blood pressure, oxygen consumption, and influence on the blood pictures were observed before, during, and in 1-3 days after perfusion. Hemodilution rates were the average 74. 22cc/Kg(the ranges of 67 to 81 cc/Kg) and perfusion flow rates were maintained in the mean 62. 6cc/Kg/min., Although it was possible to check up to 87 cc/ Kg/min. The total body perfusion continued for 60-80 minutes. Hypothermia was employed between $36^{\circ}C$ and $32^{\circ}C$ of the rectal temperature. Arterial pressure was ranged approximately between 68mmHg and 149mmHg, but generally, it was maintained over 80mmHg. Venous pressure was measured between 6.5cm $H_2O$and 11.5cm $H_2O$. Optimum oxygenation can be expected when oxygen flow into the disposable bubble oxygenator was maintained approximately at 3.5 L/min .. Inthis way, the oxygen contents were measured in the mean value of 13.11${\pm}$O.56 vol. % of arterial blood and 8.67+1.08 vol.% of venous blood(P${\pm}$0.86 vol.% in arteriovenous oxygen difference and 2. 97${\pm}$0.62cc/Kg in oxygen consumption were calculated. According to these dates, it is as plain as pikestaff that excellent oxygenation and good tissue perfusion was accomplished. Erythrocyte, hemoglobin and hematocrit were decreased about 38% during extracorporeal circulation and these were not recovered until 1-3 days after perfusion. These decrease was resulted from relatively high degree of hemodilution rate and no blood transfusion to compensate during these experimental studies. The platelets were also decreased about 76% during perfusion, but on the contrary, it was increased progressively after perfusion and in 1-3 days after perfusion was returned to the control level. Leucocyte were also decreased during perfusion, but it was increased progessively after perfusion and in 1-3 days after perfusion exceed the control level. This increase was resulted from postoperative infection of the wound, but its analysis were not changed significantly.
