Production of calcium lactate very useful for medical supplies of Ca-therapy was obtained by lactic acid fermentation of lactobacillus sporogenes, a spore forming lactic acid bacterium. Corn steep liquor 1%, soybean enzyme hydrolysate 3%, yeast extract powder 2% can substitute for yeast extract and peptone as nutrient sort traces in fermentation medium using 10% glucose concentration. In the calcium lactate production medium containing yeast extract powder 2%, glucose 18%, CaCO3 12%, the lactic acid fermentation was carried out at 45$^{\circ}C$ for 4days with continuous agitation of 100 rpm. As results, fermentation yield was 97.5%. The five steps such as protein coagulation, decolorizing evaporating, crystallizing, and drying were carried out to harvest calcium lactate from 10l of supernatant of fermented medium to be removed cell and CaCO3. As results, 2065.0g of white crystal calcium lactate dihyrate was recovered and a yield of 84.9% was obtained.
Main compositions of powder paint based on thermoset type epoxy resin consist of epoxy resin for powder coating, curing agent, filler and pigment. The curing system used in this study was based on diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) and dicyan diamide (DICY). The curing behavior and rheological properties of powder coating material were investigated using DSC and rheometer, respectively. And the adhesion strength between steel and powder coating material was measured using lap shear geometry. The optimum formulation of epoxy powder paint obtained from this study was base resin of 100 phr, DICY of 6 phr, $CaCO_3$ of 20 phr, and $TiO_2$ of 10 phr.
Composites of ceramic powders and an elastomer-based matrix were prepared by mixing $CaCO_3$ powders with polyethylene and polypropylene elastomers, and their mechanical and sound insulation properties were measured. $CaCO_3$ powders with 0.7 ${\mu}m$ and 35 ${\mu}m$ particle size were added to elastomers up to 80 wt%. Scanning electron microscopy photographs showed uniform distribution of the $CaCO_3$ powders in the matrix. While density and surface hardness increased, melt index, tensile strength and elongation of the composites decreased as the amount of added $CaCO_3$ powders increased. As more $CaCO_3$ powders were added sound transmission loss of the composites increased owing to the increase of density. Addition of 0.7 ${\mu}m$ sized $CaCO_3$ powders resulted in a slightly higher transmission loss than the addition of 35 ${\mu}m$ sized powders because of the increased interface area between the elastomer matrix and the $CaCO_3$ powders. Composites with a polyethylene matrix showed higher transmission loss than those with a polypropylene matrix because the tensile strength and hardness of the polyethylene-based composites were low and their elongation was high.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of various types of calcium sources on calcium metabolism. Sprague-Dawley male rate weighing approximately 82g were divided into 6 groups and fed experimental diets containing about 0.2% calcium for 4 weeks. Perilla leaves, dried sea mustard, mulberry leaves, loach, skim milk powder, and CaCO3 were used as calcium sources for this study. Food intake of experimental groups showed no significant difference from that of control group, but food efficiency ratio were higher in group fed loach as a calcium source. Apparent calcium absorption from perilla leaves, and skim milk powder groups as good as that in CaCO group. Femur length showed no significant difference among exjerimental groups with different calcium sources. The breaking force of bone was higher in loach and dried sea mustard groups. Weight, ash weight, and calcium content of the femur were higher in the loach diet group than in the others. Thus, calcium from not only skim milk powder but also perilla leaves, dried sea mustard, mulberry leaves, and loach appears readily available and all of these can be recommended as calcium sources.

Recently, needs for utilization of recycled aggregate have been increasing. However, its utilization has been limited due to its high alkalinity, which mostly came from the unremoved cement paste particles that were attached at the surface of recycled aggregate. Various efforts has been made to reduce its alkalinity by using $CO_2$, but currently available methods that uses $CO_2$ generate the problem with pH recovery. Considering the fact that supercritical $CO_2$ ($scCO_2$) can provide more rapid carbonation of cement paste than by normal $CO_2$, $scCO_2$ was utilized in this work. The reaction between $scCO_2$ and hydrated cement paste has been systematically evaluated. According to the results, it was found that powder type showed higher carbonation compared to that of cube specimens. It seems the carbonation by $scCO_2$ has occurred only at the surface of the specimen, and therefore still showed some amount of $Ca(OH)_2$ calcium aluminates after reaction with $scCO_2$. With powder type specimen, all $Ca(OH)_2$ was converted into $CaCO_3$. Moreover, additional calcium that came from both calcium aluminate hydrates and calcium silicate hydrates reacted with $scCO_2$ to form $CaCO_3$. After carbonation with $scCO_2$, the powder type specimen did not show pH recovery, but cube specimens did show due to the presence of portlandite.
Effect of Ca/P mole ratio on the precipitates and powder properties of hydroxyapatite was investigated. Powder and precipitates of hydroxyapatite were synthesized by the reaction of Ca(NO3)2.4H2O and (NH4)2 HPO4 solutions at room temperature. The pH value and compositions (Ca/P mole ratio) in starting solutions were 11 and 1.64-1.79(or 1.85), respectively. Rodlike hydroxyapatite precipitates were agglomerated together. The average agglomerated particle size was ranged from 2-8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Among compositions, the minimum agglomerated particle size was shown at the Ca/P mole ratio 1.75. CO2 was contained in hydroxyapatite powders and these ultrafine powders had poor crystallinity. The specific surface area and specific total pore volume of hydroxyapatite powders were 104-137$m^2$/g and 0.396-0.467cc/g, respectively. When the Ca/P mole ratio was 1.75, these values were the maximum. And water content increased with the Ca/P mole ratio(Ca/P mole ratio>1.67). In most cases, hydroxyapaite was stable to 130$0^{\circ}C$. However, in the case of Ca/P mole ratio 1.64, hydroxyapatite was changed to $\alpha$-whitlockite at 120$0^{\circ}C$.
Preparation and heavy metal ion adsorption of sumicron hydroxy apatite were studied in this experiment. Submicron HAP was synthesized with Ca(OH)2 solution and H3PO4.Ca(OH)2 solution was made from water-quenching of CaCO3 heated at 1, 00$0^{\circ}C$ and 20%-H3PO4 was dropped into this Ca(OH)2 solution heated at 8$0^{\circ}C$. XRD pattern of prepared powder showed HAP crystal. The average particle size and sahpe of HAP were 0.25${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and sphere type. As a adsorbent, 1.0g of the prepared HAP powder in 1 liter of artifical 5ppm heavy matal waste water was sufficient, and more effective at pH7-9.
Various kinds of Mg-Zn-Ca base alloys were rapidly quenched via melt spinning process. The meltspun ternary and quaternary alloy ribbons were heat-treated, and then the effects of additional elements on age hardening behavior and phase change of precipitates were investigated using Vickers hardness tester, XRD, and TEM equipped with EDS system. In ternary alloys, age hardening was mostly due to the distribution of $Mg_6Ca_2Zn_3$ and $Mg_2Ca$. The stable phases of precipitates were varied according to the aging temperature and the alloy composition. With the increase of Ca content, $Mg_2Ca$ precipitates were detected more than $Mg_6Ca_2Zn_3$ precipitates. In quaternary alloys, the precipitates taken from Mg-Zn-Ca-Co were identified as new quaternary phase, whereas those taken from Mg-Zn-Ca-Zr as MgZnCa containing Zr. In general, the ternary alloy showed higher peak hardness and thermal stability than the quaternary considering the total amounts of the solutes. It implies that the structure of precipitate should be controlled to have the coherent interface with the Mg matrix.
In order to elucidate the possibility of artificial production of p. ferulae by solid-state culture, the optimization of culture conditions was carried out. When $NH_4H_2PO_4$ and $CaCO_3$ were used in the cultures using test tube with 30 g of Populus sawdust at $25^{\circ}C{\pm}1$ in the dark, the favored mycelial growth was observed with $1\%$ of $NH_4H_2PO_4$ and the production of polysaccharide was 7.85 mg/100 mg of mycelium with $1\%$ of $CaCO_3$. The mixtures of $80\%$ of Populus Sawdust and $20\%$ of rice bran at $60\%$ of water content were determined to be optimal for the production of fruiting bodies in the sawdust culture. When three treatments containing various ratios of garlic powder were conducted, yields of fruiting bodies were drasti[ally higher than those of Synthetic mixture without garlic powder The highest yield (143 g/bag) was obtained with $7\%$ garlic powder. The yield of synthetic mixture containing $7\%$ of garlic powder was $83\%$ higher than that of Sawdust culture. The reason why garlic powder did support growth was not clear but it is possible that garlic powder might contain effective components for the formation of fruiting body. The optimal synthetic mixture composition consisted of cotton seed $77\%$, lime $6.4\%,\;K_2HPO_4\;0.2\%,\;KH_2PO_4\;0.2\%,\;CaHPO_4\;0.2\%$, corn flour $4\%$, wheat flour $5\%$, and garlic pow-der $7\%$.
${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ spherical particles having an average diameter of ca. 420 nm and ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ fine particles (< 10 ${\mu}m$ particle size) were prepared to examine as catalysts for CO oxidation. Kinetic studies on the catalytic reactions were performed in a flow reactor using an on-line gas chromatography system operated at 1 atm. The apparent activation energies and the partial orders with respect to CO and $O_2$ were determined from the rates of CO disappearance in the reaction stage showing a constant catalytic activity. In the temperature range of $150-275^{\circ}C$, the apparent activation energies were calculated to be 13.7 kcal/mol on the ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ spherical submicron clusters and 15.0 kcal/mol on the ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ fine powder. The Pco and $Po_2$ dependencies of rate were investigated at various partial pressures of CO and $O_2$ at $250^{\circ}C$. Zero-order kinetics were observed for $O_2$ on both the catalysts, but the reaction order for CO was observed as first-order on the ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ fine powder and 0.75-order on the ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ spherical submicron clusters. The catalytic processes including the inhibition process by $CO_2$ on the ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ spherical submicron powder are discussed according to the kinetic results. The catalysts were characterized using XRD (X-ray powder diffraction), FE-SEM (field emission-scanning electron microscopy), HR-TEM (high resolution-transmission electron microscopy), and $N_2$ sorption measurements.
