The temperature-corrected values of blood gas analysis were compared to uncorrected values in 40 cases of open heart surgery under moderate hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass. The results were as follows. 1. The corrected value of pH was significantly higher than uncorrected value, and it's relationship was ${\Delta}pH=-0.015$${\Delta}Temp+0.005$(r=0.81, P<(0.01). 2. The corrected value of $PCO_2$ was lower than uncorrected value, and it's relationship was ${\Delta}PCO_2=1.11$${\Delta}Temp+1.81$(r=0.50, P<0.01). 3. The corrected value of $PO_2$ was lower than uncorrected value, and it' s relationship was ${\Delta}PO_2=5.21$${\Delta}Temp-1.45$(r=0.32, P<0.01). But there was no clinical significance. 4. The corrected values of $HCO_{3^-}$, base excess, $CO_2$ content and oxygen saturation were similar with uncorrected values. In summery, the values of pH and $PCO_2$were significantly changed by temperature-correction. Because of the neutral point of water (pH=pOH) rises as temperature falls and it change in parallel with the changes in blood pH, a corrected pH of 7.4, $PaCO_2$ of 40mmHg during deep hypothermia would reflect a profound respiratory acidosis. Therefore, the use of the uncorrected value at $37^{\circ}C$ is more preferable and valid means of assessing acid-base management regardless of actual patient temperature.

Until now, the evaluation of prestressing force during the survice state has received limited attention. Only initial prestressing force is estimated by reading the pressure values of a hydraulic jack or by observing the initial elongation of tendons. In this study, the initial losses and time dependent losses of prestressing force have been monitored by installing 12 vibrating wire-type load cells at the part of P.C. box bridge of Gangbyun Riverside Highway. Also comparative study was made for measured prestressing losses and estimated values. 2-dimensional analysis was performed to see the trend of prestressing losses, and the results was compared with measured ones.

The dyeing properties of cotton fabric with Inonotus obliquus are studied by investigating the effect of dyeing conditions on dye uptakes such as, the concentration of Inonotus obliquus, dyeing temperature, time, and pH values. In addition, the effects of mordants on dye uptakes and antibacterial activities are also investigated. The results are summarized as follows: The dye uptakes of dyed fabrics were increased gradually with an increasing concentration of Inonotus obliquus. K/S values were the highest when the dyeing temperature and time were at $60^{\circ}C$ and 60 minutes, respectively. As for the changes of pH values of dyeing solution, K/S values recorded the highest at pH3-pH5. Antibacterial activities of Inonotus obliquus dyeing solution showed a significant effect in dyed cotton fabric with mordanting.
Characteristics of microstructures, mechanical properties and formability of two Al-20Si-5Fe-2Ni alloys produced by gas atomizing (P/M) and spray forming (S/F) respectively were compared at temperatures up to $560^{\circ}C$. Room temperature hardness values and tensile strengths of both alloys were increased in accordance with temperature after heat treatment above $300^{\circ}C$. The highest values of hardness and tensile strength of both alloys were obtained at $490^{\circ}C$. It was interpreted that increase in hardness and tensile strength according to heating temperature between $300{\sim}490^{\circ}C$ was mainly related to increase in internal stress between Al matrix and reprecipitated particles. S/F alloys showed better formability and wear property than P/M alloys due to the homogenity of microstructures above $300^{\circ}C$.
In this study, the effect of ambient temperature on the 45$^{\circ}$micro ESR/hr of cattle blood were observed, and a correction chart for correcting observed values at any ambient temperature to standard values at 20$^{\circ}C$ was plotted. Besides, the effect of storage temperature of blood on the 45$^{\circ}$micro ESR/hr was surveyed. The results were as follows: 1. The values of the 45$^{\circ}$micro ESR/hr were increased as the ambient temperature were elevated(P<0.01), and lower the value of PCV, higher the effect of temperature on the 45$^{\circ}$micro ESR/hr was observed(P<0.01). 2. Regression of values of 45$^{\circ}$micro ESR to ambient temperature in all the group of different level of blood PCV showed linear regression with the highly significant coefficient of correlation. With the results, correction chart was drawn as in Fig. 1. 3. In the purpose to verify the reliability of correction chart, observed values of 45$^{\circ}$micro ESR/hr in field(out door) were corrected to values at 20$^{\circ}C$ by the correction chart(Fig. 1), comparing with the observed values at 20$^{\circ}C$ of standard temperature. No significant differences were found between two groups mentioned above. 4. In the study on the effect of storage temperature of the blood on the 45$^{\circ}$micro ESR/hr, group of storage temperature at 5$^{\circ}C$ showed statistically no significant differences untill 24 hours in contrast with standard control group.

To investigate changes of multi-purpose solutions for soft contact lens(MPS) depending on using period or keeping temperature, we evaluate four brands of MPS. No significant difference was seen in protein deposit removing efficacy after samples had used for 24 weeks and kept at $4^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$ or $30^{\circ}C$. The pH values of the samples of 4 brands measured weekly over the 24 week testing period. The initial average pH value of samples were 7.0, 7.5, 7.6 or 8.2. One brand of MPS was in the range of the threshold for ocular awareness, which is outside the zone of 6.6 ~ 7.8. During the testing period, the pH value were decreased in using period-dependent manner. At the 24th week, the average pH values of samples turned to 6.6, 7.2, 7.2 or 7.7. However, the difference of keeping temperature was not associated with decreased levels of pH values. After 24 weeks, one of total 36 samples was contaminated by bacteria. Furthermore, the change of components was shown after 24 weeks in the analysis using thin layer chromatography and the analysis of UV absorption pattern. The results of our study provides that the keeping temperature of MPS is not the important factor of changes of MPS, but the using period of MPS can cause contact lens wearers discomfort.
To investigate the increased acid tolerance of a acid-resistant mutant Leuconostoc paramesenteroides P-100 improved as a kimchi starter, proton permeability, ATPase acitivity, glycolysis activity, $Mg^2$sup +/ releasement, and membrane fatty acid composition were studied and comprised with its wild type Leuconostoc paramesenteroides Pw. In the proton permeability experiment, the maximum values of the average half time (t$\_$1/2/) of pH equilibration through the cell membrane of the Pw and the P-100 were about 6.4 min and 7.8 min in 150 mM KCI solution, respectively. In the 3% NaCl solution, the t$\_$1/2/ values of the Pw and the P-100 were 5.5 min and 6.9 min, respectively. The values and pHs of maximal specific activities of ATPase originated from the Pw and the P-100 were 0.5 unit/mg protein and 0.78 unit/mg protein at pH 6.0, respectively. The result of pH dependence of glycolysis showed that the P-100 had higher activities than that of Pw except at pH 7.0. The releases of magnesium from the Pw and the P-100 were observed about 54.5% and 23.2% at pH 4.0 after 2 hours, respectively. The results of comparison of membrane fatty acid composition of the Pw with the P-100 showed that C$\_$8:0/, C$\_$9:0/, C$\_$10:0/, C$\_$11:0/, C$\_$18:0/, and C$\_$19:0,cyclo/ were major different fatty acids between two strains and the content of C$\_$18:1/, and C$\_$19:0,cyclo/ were 2.8%, N.D (not detected) in the Pw and 0.4%, 2.3% in the P-100. These results indicated that acid tolerance of the P-100 was significantly improved in comparison with its wild type Pw.
The effect of prostacyclin[PGI, ] on myocardial preservation during global ischemia was studied in the isolating working rabbit heart model. Forty hearts underwent a 15 minute period of retrograde nonworking perfusion with Krebs-Henseleit buffer solution [37*C] and were switched over to the working mode for 15 minutes. After baseline measurement of heart rate, peak aortic pressure, aortic flow, and coronary flow, all hearts were subjected to 60 minutes of ischemic arrest at 10*C induced with St. Thomas Hospital cardioplegic solution: Group I had single dose cardioplegia, Croup II double dose, Croup III oxygenated double dose, and Group IV single dose with PCI, infusion [10ng/min./gm heart weight]. Hearts were then revived with 15 minute period of nonworking reperfusion at normothermia, followed by 30 minutes of working perfusion. Repeat measurements of cardiac function were obtained and expressed as a percent of the preischemic baseline values. Oxygen content of arterial perfusate and coronary effluent was measured by designed time interval. Leakage of creatine kinase was determined during post-ischemic reperfusion period. Finally wet hearts were weighed and placed in 120*C oven for 36 hours for measurement of dry weight. In the PGI, treated group [IV], heart rate increased consistently throughout the period of reperfusion from 100*5.0% [p<0.001] to 107*6.2% [p<0.001]. The percent recovery of aortic flow showed 95*5.7% [p<0.001] at the first 3 minute and full recovery through the subsequent time. Coronary flow was augmented significantly in the 3 minute [96*6.2%, p<0.001] and then sustained above baseline values. Among the Croup I, II, and III, all hemodynamic values were significantly below preischemic levels. PGI2 relatively increased oxygen delivery [1.22*0.19ml/min, p<0.001] and myocardial oxygen consumption [0.90*0.13ml/min, p<0.001] during reperfusion period. Leakage of creatine kinase in the PGI2 group was 9.3*1.58IU/15min [p<0.001]. This was significantly lower than Group I [33.0*2.68 IU/15min]. The water content of PCI2 treated hearts [81*0.9%, p<0.001] was also lower than the other groups.
The [$^2H_5$]phenylalanine model was compared with the [1-$^{13}C$]leucine method to determine whole body protein synthesis (WBPS) and degradation (WBPD) in sheep fed at two levels. The animals were fed either 103 (M-diet) or 151 (H-diet) kcal $ME/kg^{0.75}/day$ once daily in a crossover design for 21 days each. The isotope dilutions were simultaneously conducted as a primed-continuous infusion of [$^2H_5$]phenylalanine, [$^2H_2$]tyrosine and [1-$^{13}C$]leucine on each dietary treatment. The WBPS and WBPD calculated from the [$^2H_5$]phenylalanine model were lower (p = 0.009 and p = 0.003, respectively) than those calculated from the [1-$^{13}C$]leucine method. The WBPS tended to be higher (p = 0.08) and WBPD was numerically higher (p = 0.33) for H-diet than M-diet in the [$^2H_5$]phenylalanine model, whereas the WBPS was numerically higher (p = 0.37) for H-diet and WBPS remained similar (p = 0.79) between diets in the [1-$^{13}C$]leucine method. However, the absolute values and the directions of WBPS as well as WBPD from M-diet to H-diet were comparable between the [$^2H_5$]phenylalanine model and [1-$^{13}C$]leucine method. Moreover, the values vary depending on the use of the respective amino acid contents in the carcass protein when calculating WBPS and WBPD. Therefore, it is concluded that the [$^2H_5$]phenylalanine model could be used as an alternative to the [1-$^{13}C$]leucine method for the determination of WBPS and WBPD in sheep.
Physicochemival properties of ginseng roasted at 170 to $250^{\circ}C$ were investigated. Soluble solid contents in roast ginseng increased until $200^{\circ}C$, but decreased at higher temperature than $200^{\circ}C$. Contents of reducing sugar and protein were decreased and pH values were dropped, while optical density, acidic polysaccharide contents, precursor of brown pigments and hydrogen donating activities by DPPH were increased according to increasing in roast temperatures. The color distribution of roast ginseng expressed as Hunter L, a and b values demonstrated that lower L values and higher a values were observed according to higher temperature, but b values were almost not changed.
