A Study on the conditions of the Environment-Conscious Logistics Activity (환경친화적 물류활동의 실태에 관한 연구)

  • With the effectuation of Kyoto Protocol, one of the important movement throughout the world is reducing the emission of greenhouse gas which is the main reason of making global warming. The actual factor of greenhouse gas is CO2, and in year of 2002 20% of total CO2 emission was produced only through transportation throughout the South Korea. In the contrary, the recycling of municipal wastes in South Korea was 44.0% in 2002, but it will be targeted upto 53.5% in 2011. All of these show environment-conscious logistics should be implemented together throughout the each stage of distribution with the development of product and service. This study applied survey research for the activities affecting to the emission of CO2 and packaging wastes produced from transportation and packaging stages in logistics area. For this, survey questionary was constructed with five specific areas - strategy, transportation & distribution, custody, packaging, and information. Based on the 148 returned survey questionaries, this study analyzed 52 categories and finally suggests necessary modal shift, collaboration & co-operation in logistics, LCA(life-cycle assessment), and other promoting policies for the environment-conscious logistics in effective way.

Degradation characteristics of 2G HTS tapes with respect to an electrical breakdown

  • The electrical insulation design for a superconducting coil system is important for developing high voltage superconducting apparatuses. Also, the degraded characteristics of superconducting tapes due to an electrical breakdown should be considered for superconducting coils design. In this study, the degradation characteristics of 2G high temperature superconducting (HTS) tapes were studied with respect to electrical breakdown tests. The degradation tests of 2G HTS tapes were performed with various stabilizer materials. The degradation characteristics of 2G HTS tapes such as critical current(Ic) and index number were observed by performing electrical breakdown tests. It was found that the characteristics such as Ic and index number can be degraded by an electrical breakdown. Moreover, it was concluded that the degradation characteristics of 2G HTS tapes were affected by a stabilizer material and applied breakdown voltage. The cross sectional view of 2G HTS tapes was observed by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). As results, it is found that the degradation characteristics of 2G HTS tapes are concerned with hardness and electrical resistivity of stabilizer layers.

Study on the reduction of $CO_2$ and NOx emission by coastal transport of import-export container cargo (수출입컨테이너화물의 연안운송에 의한 이산화탄소($CO_2$)와 질소산화물(NOx) 배출량 삭감에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, the reduction of CO₂ gas emission and exhaust gas emission by using the shift of coastal transport from land transport for import-export container cargo was proposed. At first, the domestic CO₂ gas emission, exhaust gas emission and the transportation of import-export container cargo are investigated. And also, we investigated the reduction of CO₂ gas emission and exhaust gas emission by the shift of coastal transport from land transport for the transportation of import-export container cargo between Kyongin area and Pusan Port. Finally, the change of NOx gas emission due to the change of the share of coastal transportation and using the 320TEU container ship are investigated. The research results show that the shift of coastal transport from land transport was effective to reduce the CO₂ gas emission and exhaust gas emission.

Temperature Dependency of Non-dispersive Infrared Carbon Dioxide Gas Sensor by Using White-Cell Structure (White-Cell 구조를 응용한 비분산 적외선 이산화탄소 센서의 온도특성)

  • NDIR $CO_2$ gas sensor was prototyped with ASIC implemented thermopile sensor which included temperature sensor and White-Cell structure in this paper. The temperature dependency of dual infrared sensors ($CO_2$ and reference IR sensors) has been characterized and their output voltage ratios according to the temperature and gas concentration were presented in this paper for achieving temperature compensation algorithm. The initial output voltages of NDIR $CO_2$ gas and reference IR sensors showed $3^{rd}$ order polynomial and linear output voltages according to the variation of ambient temperatures from 253 K to 333 K, respectively. The output voltages of temperature sensor presented a linear dependency according to the ambient temperature and could be described with V(T) = -3.0069+0.0145T(V). The characteristics of output voltage ratios could be modeled with five parameters which are dependent upon the ambient temperatures and gas concentration. The estimated $CO_2$ concentrations showed relatively high error below 300 ppm (maximum 572 % at 7 ppm $CO_2$ concentration), however, as the concentration increased from 500 ppm to 2,000 ppm, the overall estimated errors of $CO_2$ concentrations were less than ${\pm}10%$ in this research.

  • $CO_2$ is known as the major source of the green house effect and the volume produced from electricity generation and transportation sector in Korea constitutes the large portion. In order to reduce the green house effect, several treatment methods can be the major research topics such as the scheme to fundamentally restrict the production of $CO_2$ creation, to perfectly sequestrate the produced $CO_2$, to reuse the separated $CO_2$, or to permanently dispose $CO_2$ in an appropriate storage site. Among of them, R&D strategy and geotechnical research issues are explored in this paper in an effort to realize geological storage for the sequestrated $CO_2$ in local storage sites. $CO_2$ is known as the major source of the green house effect and the volume produced from electricity generation and transportation sector in Korea constitutes the large portion. Thermoelectric Properties of P-type (Ce1-zYbz)0.8Fe4-xCoxSb12 Skutterudites

  • P-type Ce/Yb-filled skutterudites were synthesized, and their charge transport and thermoelectric properties were investigated with partial double filling and charge compensation. In the case of $(Ce_{1-z}Yb_z)_{0.8}Fe_4Sb_{12}$ without Co substitution, the marcasite ($FeSb_2$) phase formed alongside the skutterudite phase, but the generation of the marcasite phase was inhibited by increasing Co concentration. The electrical conductivity decreased with increasing temperature, exhibiting degenerate semiconductor behavior. The Hall and Seebeck coefficients were positive, which confirmed that the specimens were p-type semiconductors with holes as the major carriers. The carrier concentration decreased as the concentration of Ce and Co increased, which led to decreased electrical conductivity and increased Seebeck coefficient. The thermal conductivity decreased due to a reduction in electronic thermal conductivity via Co substitution, and due to decreased lattice thermal conductivity via double filling of Ce and Yb. $(Ce_{0.25}Yb_{0.75})_{0.8}Fe_{3.5}Co_{0.5}Sb_{12}$ exhibited the greatest dimensionless figure of merit (ZT = 0.66 at 823 K).

Estimation of Greenhouse Gas Emission from Off-road Transportation (비도로 수송에 의한 온실 가스 배출량 추정)

  • Off-road transportation sector including construction equipment, ground support equipment in airport, cargo handling equipment and agroforestry machinery have not calculated as emission source classification in 1A3e2. In this study, the statistics of oil consumption for construction, aviation, shipping and agroforestry are separated for this sector by oil type. And the greenhouse gas emission by off-road transportation emission factor in 1996 & 2006 IPCC Guidelines are calculated and compared with each other. As a result, the nationwide $CO_2$ equivalent emission from off-road transportations by the emission factor of 1996 & 2006 IPCC Guidelines are calculated as 4,919 kton/yr and 5,530 kton/yr in 2007. The contribution ratio of off-road transportation emission by this study is estimated as 5.5% to the subtotal emission from on-road transport sector.

Evaluation of CO2 Reduction Effected by GHG Reduction Policy of Vehicle (자동차 온실가스 저감정책에 따른 이산화탄소 저감 효과 평가)

  • Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have given rise to climate change which is one of the most serious environmental challenges that the world faces today. In response, Republic of Korea has proposed "Low Carbon, Green Growth" as a new economic paradigm accompanying with the ultimate aim of building a sense of responsibility for the environment. Korean government has set the ambitious national GHG emission reduction target which aims 37% reduction in the business-as-usual (BAU) level of 2030. The transportation sector plays a key role in this target. In the transportation sector, the GHG reduction target of 34.3% in the BAU level by 2020 has been allocated in order to consider the industrial specificity. Furthermore, it is known that the GHG reduction in the transportation sector has relatively minimal side effects compared to those of other sectors. In order to meet this national GHG reduction target, Korean government has set $CO_2$ emission regulation of vehicle for 2020. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the reduction effects by the average GHG regulation of vehicles. $CO_2$ emissions, between 2009 and 2013 were analysed by reduction measure such as technology improvement, light-weight, segment shift, diesel vehicle sales. During this period, $CO_2$ of vehicle was reduced every year by 19.9 g/km (i.e., 3.3% reduction per year). $CO_2$ reduction of imported vehicle is greater than domestic vehicle because of segment shift toward small size vehicle and higher diesel vehicle sales.

Analysis of Output Voltage Properties of Non-dispersive Infrared Gas Sensors According to Ambient Temperatures (주변 온도 영향에 따른 비분산 적외선 가스센서의 출력 특성 해석)

  • This article describes the output properties of non-dispersive infrared carbon dioxide($CO_2$) sensors resulting from the changes in ambient temperatures. After the developed sensor module was installed inside the gas chamber, the temperature was set to 267 K, 277 K, 300 K, and 314 K, and the concentrations of $CO_2$ gas were increased from 0 to 5,000 ppm. Then, the output voltage at each concentration was obtained. Through these experimental results, two observations were made. First, both the $CO_2$ sensor and the reference sensor showed an increase in the output voltages as the temperature rose from 0 ppm, Second, the full scale outputs of the $CO_2$ sensor grew as the temperature increased. The output characteristics were analyzed based on two factors: change in the radiant energy of the infrared light source and change in the absorptivity of $CO_2$ gas according to the ambient temperature. Additionally, temperature compensation methods were discussed.

Exposure to PM10 and Carbon Monoxide (CO) Associated with Automobile Travels (자동차 운행과 관련한 PM10 및 일산화탄소 노출 평가)

  • This study included three experiments to evaluate in-vehicle exposures to PM10 and CO: 1) evaluation of in-passenger car exposures, 2) evaluation of in-public bus exposures, and 3) simultaneous evaluation of in-passenger car and in -university bus exposures. The tests of four factors (transportation mode, passenger-car type, commute period, and commute season were focused. A total of 40 actual passenger car commuters, 20 public bus commuters, and four university buses were recruited or surveyed. The same commuters ware participated in both the summer and winter studied. Two factory such as transportation mode and passenger-car type were found to have little effect on the in-vehicle levels of PM10 and CO. Commute period was found to have little effect on the in-vehicle CO levels. Conversely, the other factor, commuting season was found to influence on the in-vehicle levels of PM10 and CO. The present study also confirmed that under the Korean commute conditions, vehicle interiors are an important microenvironment for exposure to PM10 and CO. This was supported by finding that the in-vehicle Air levels were much higher than ambient air levels reported by several previous studies. The mean in -vehicle PM10 concentrations were 114 and 103$\mu\textrm{g}$/m$^3$for passenger cars and public buses, respectively. For CO, the mean in-vehicle concentrations were 2.9 and 2.6 ppm for passenger cars and public louses, respectively.
