  • Carbon dioxide ocean disposal is one of the promising options to reduce carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere because the ocean has vast capacity for carbon dioxide sequestration. However, the dissolution rate of liquid carbon dioxide in seawater must be known in advance in order to estimate the amount of carbon dioxide sequestration in the ocean. Therefore, in the present study, calculations of the solubility, the surface concentration and the dissolution behavior of carbon dioxide when liquid carbon dioxide is released at 1,000m and 1,500m in depth are peformed. The results show that the droplet is completely dissolved below 500 m in depth if the carbon dioxide droplet is released both at 1,000m in depth with the initial droplet diameter of 0.011m or less and at 1,500m in depth with the diameter of 0.016 or less. Also, the surface concentration of carbon dioxide droplet with the hydrate film is about 50% of carbon dioxide solubility at 1,500 m in depth and about 60% of carbon dioxide solubility at 1,000 m in depth.

  • This study aimed to develop a solid self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system (solid-SNEDDS) to enhance the formulation of ketoconazole (KTZ), a BCS Class II drug with poor solubility. Ketoconazole, which is insoluble above pH 3, requires solubilization for effective delivery. This SNEDDS comprises oil, surfactant, and co-surfactant, which spontaneously emulsify in the gastrointestinal tract environment to form nanoemulsions with droplet sizes less than 100 nm. The optimal SNE-vehicle composition of oleic acid, TPGS, and PEG 400 at a 10:80:10 weight ratio was determined based on the smallest droplet size achieved. This composition was used to prepare liquid SNEDDS containing ketoconazole. The droplet size and polydispersity index (PDI) of the resulting liquid SNEDDS were analyzed. Subsequently, solid-SNEDDS was fabricated using a spray-drying method with solidifying carriers such as silicon dioxide, crospovidone, and magnesium alumetasilicate. The physicochemical properties of the solid-SNEDDS were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and powder X-ray diffraction, and its solubility, droplet size, and PDI were evaluated. In particular, the solid-SNEDDS containing ketoconazole and crospovidone in a 2:1 weight ratio exhibited significantly enhanced solubility, highlighting its potential for improved medication adherence and dissolution rates.

  • The theory of solubility proposed by Jhon and Kihara has been tested and applied to various systems. In the present paper, the systems are the solubilities of gases such as $Ar,\;H_2,\;N_2,\;O_2,\;CO_2,\;CH_4,\;and\;C_2H_6$ in liquid benzene and carbon disulfide, those of solids iodine and naphthalene in the nonaqueous solvents, and those of gases $H_2,\;N_2,\;O_2,\;Ar,\;CH_4,\;and\;C_2H_4$ in the electrolyte solutions. The theoretical values of solubilities are in good agreement with the experimental data in the literature.

  • Poly(ether-block-amide) 1657 (PEBAX 1657) blended membranes with molecular weight 400 poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG 400) were prepared and their permeability was tested for the gases $N_2$, $O_2$, $CH_4$, $CO_2$, and $SO_2$ by the time-lag method. The permeation characteristics were investigated in terms of diffusivity and solubility, which are dominant factors for gas transport. With the addition of PEG 400, the permeability of all the gases increased and also the ideal selectivity for several pair gases was enhanced. In particular, selectivity for $CO_2/N_2$ ranged from 53.2 (pristine PEBAX 1657 membrane) to 84.1 (50% PEG 400 added), for $SO_2/CO_2$ from 38.9 to 50.7, and for $CO_2/CH_4$ from 17.7 to 31.4. The increase of both permeability and selectivity is mainly because of the increase of solubility of the gases, especially $CO_2$ and $SO_2$. To obtain durability against water vapor, glutaraldehyde (GA) was added to the PEBAX 1657/PEG 400 blended membranes. As a result, permeability decreased owing to a reduction of the free volume and ether oxide units, which are the main factors in elevating the permeability for the blended membranes, and selectivity decrease however; we believe that the durability of the resulting membranes would be increased.

  • For estblishing the best technique for the micronization of Ibuprofen using supercritical fluids, the solubility should be known. The solubility of Ibuprofen in supercritical carbon dioxide was measured by observing the cloud point. The cloud point was observed using high pressure equipment equipped a variable volume view cell between temperature of 35, 40 and $45^{\circ}C$. The solubility data was correlated by the Peng-Robinson equation of state Solute physical properties, such as critical temperature (Tc), critical pressure (Pc) and acentric factor (${\omega}$) were estimated by the some group contribution method. As pressure was increased, the solubility increased at constant temperature. The retrograde phenomenon by a solute vapor pressure and a density of solvent was observed at the pressure of around 150bar. It was found that $CO_2$ can be used as a supercritical solvent in micronization of ibuprofen by RESS.

  • In this study, the removal of $Si_3N_4$ particles from the surface of a silicon wafer was investigated by using supercritical carbon dioxide, the IPA co-solvent and cleaning additive chemicals. First, the solubility of several surfactants and binders in supercritical carbon dioxide solubility and particle dispersibility in the binders were evaluated in order to confirm their suitability for the supercritical cleaning process. Particle removal experiments were carried out with adjusting various process parameters and reaction conditions. The surfactants used in the experiment showed little particle removal effect, producing secondary contamination on the surface of wafers. On the other hand, 5 wt% (with respect to $scCO_2$) of the cleaning additive mixture of trimethyl phosphate, IPA, and trace HF resulted in 85% of particle removal efficiency after $scCO_2$ flowing for 4 minutes at $50^{\circ}C$, 2000 psi, and the flow rate of $15mL\;min^{-1}$.

  • Over the past years, a large number of acrylate polymers have been developed and the overcoat thin layer containing acrylate polymers have been used for TFT-LCD color filter. As forming thin layer using acrylate polymers, the existing acrylate polymers have some problems such as low hardness by low Tg temperature, coating uniformity and solubility in organic solvent. To solve these problems, we synthesized new polymer(Scheme.), containing olefin monomer, which has high Tg temperature, good coating uniformity and good solubility in organic solvent. The overcoat thin layer containing new polymer resulted in good coating uniformity, stain, spot, scratch, heat resistance, DOP(Degree Of Planarization) on RGB glass, transparency, hardness, adhesion, anti-chemicals(anti-acid, anti-base, anti-organic solvent), insulation and anti-humidity. Scheme. The structure of new polymer X = Olefin monomer contains ketone, ester, hydroxy, ether, halogen, nitrile, alkoxy, phenyl functional group $R_1$ and $R_2$= H or $CH_3$. • Recent popularity in mobile electronics requires higher standard on the mechanical strength of electronic packaging. Thus, the method of soldering between chip and substrate in electronic packaging process is changing from conventional method using intermetallic compound to a new method using organic solderability preservatives (OSP) in order to improve the stability and the reliability of final product. Since current OSPs have several serious problems like thermo-stability during packaging process, however, it is necessary to develop new OSPs having thermo-stability. The main purpose of this study is to develop various thermo-stable OSPs based upon poly(vinyl pyridine-co- methylmethacrylate) and to evaluate their anti-oxidation property protecting Cu pad, thermo-stability and solubility to acid- or alcohol-containing aqueous solution during pos-fluxing. All OSPs showed not only good anti-oxidation property, thermo-stability and solubility but also more advantages like low cost, less odor, and less hygroscopic.

  • Polymeric membranes have been widely used to separate gas mixtures, such as $O_2/N_2,\;CO_2/CH_4,\;CO_2/N_2$, and olefin/paraffin. The permeation selectivity is the ratio between composition ratio at the permeate side and composition ratio at the feed side. In addition, the permeation selectivity is a product of solubility selectivity and diffusivity selectivity. We present a novel idea and describe its experimental result, which was achieved by preparing polymer gel films that included a room temperature ionic liquid (RTIL) in a polymer matrix. It is known that $CO_2$ can dissolve easily in imidazolium-based RTILs. We prepared polymer-ionic liquid gel films using an ionic liquid, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate ([emim] acetate, C-tri) and a host polymer, poly (vinyl acetate) (PVAc, Aldrich).
