Performance of Carbon Dioxide System for Freezing and Refrigeration (이산화탄소를 이용한 냉동·냉장 시스템의 성능연구)

  • Performance of freezing and refrigeration systems in supermarket, which utilized $CO_2$ as a refrigerant, was investigated by using the Pack Calculation II. The configuration of simulated systems was basic parallel refrigeration system, cascade system, and two-stage system. The $CO_2$ cascade system showed higher COP than basic parallel R404A system by 13% for MT and 62% for LT, respectively. Among the $CO_2$ cascade systems, R717(MT)-$CO_2$(LT) showed the highest performance. Open-type intercooler method showed higher performance than liquid injection for the two-stage $CO_2$ systems.

  • In this paper, cycle performance analysis of $CO_2-C_3H_8$ (R744-R290) cascade refrigeration system with internal heat exchanger is presented to offer the basic design data for the operating parameters of the system. The operating parameters considered in this study include subcooling and superheating degree and gas cooling pressure and evaporating temperature in the propane (R290) low temperature cycle and the carbon dioxide (R744) high temperature cycle. The main results were summarized as follows : The COP of cascade refrigeration system of $CO_2-C_3H_8$ (R744-R290) increases with the increasing subcooling degree, but decreases with the increasing superheating degree. The COP of cascade refrigeration system increases with the increasing evaporating temperature, but decreases with the increasing gas cooling pressure. Therefore, superheating and subcooling degree, compressor efficiency, evaporating temperature and gas cooling pressure of $CO_2-C_3H_8$ (R744-R290) cascade refrigeration system have an effect on the COP of this system.

Effect on Heat Exchangers Efficiency on Performance of Cryogenic Refrigeration Cycles (열교환기 효율이 초저온 냉동사이클 성능에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper presents the new cascade liquefaction cycles using $CO_2-C_2H_6-N_2$ and $CO_2-N_2O-N_2$. The performance of the cascade liquefaction cycles with respect to temperature differences in the LNG heat exchangers is analyzed using HYSYS software and then compared the performance of these cycles with phillips optimized cascade liquefaction cycle. The coefficient of performance of the new liquefaction cycles considered in this study decreases with the temperature differences in the LNG heat exchangers, but the compressor work, expander work and heat capacity in the LNG heat exchanger increases, respectively. From the comparison of performance of three cycles, the cascade liquefaction cycles using $CO_2-C_2H_6-N_2$ showed the highest COP. And the cycles using $CO_2-C_2H_6-N_2$ and $CO_2-N_2O-N_2$ presented the second and third highest COP, respectively. In the view of performance, the optimized cascade liquefaction cycle using $C_3H_8-C_2H_4-C_1H_4$ yields much better COP. But, in the environment view, it is found that the cascade liquefaction cycle using $CO_2-C_2H_6-N_2$ shows favorable characteristics.

  • In this paper, the performance of the $CO_2-C_2H_6-N_2$ cascade liquefaction cycle with respect to temperature differences in the LNG heat exchangers is analyzed theoretically using HYSYS software and then compared the COP(coefficient of performance) of the cascade liquefaction cycles using $C_3H_8-C_2H_4-C_1H_4$ and $CO_2-N_2O-N_2$. In comparison of COP of three cycles, the cascade liquefaction cycles using $C_3H_8-C_2H_4-C_1H_4$ showed the highest COP. And the liquefaction cycle using $CO_2-C_2H_6-N_2$ and $CO_2-N_2O-N_2$ presented the second and third highest COP, respectively. In case of COP, the $C_3H_8-C_2H_4-C_1H_4$ cascade liquefaction cycle yields better COP. But, in terms of the environment and maintain, it is confirmed that the cascade liquefaction cycle using $CO_2-C_2H_6-N_2$ provides favorable characteristics.

  • Owing to the harmful environmental effects of HCFC and CFC refrigerants discovered in the late 20th century, the need for environmentally friendly refrigerants such as $CO_2$ in cooling systems has increased. Air-source $CO_2$ heat pumps that utilize ambient heat in cold winter are less efficient because of a higher evaporation temperature, and it is difficult to manufacture the components of the heat pump owing to a super critical pressure of over 130 bar. This research aims to overcome these disadvantages and improve energy efficiency by introducing a new lower-pressure $CO_2$ auto-cascade heat pump system. $CO_2$-R32 zeotropic refrigerants were considered for two-stage expansion and effective cooling heat exchanging system configurations of the new auto-cascade heat pump. The results indicated that the efficiency of the two-stage expansion system was higher than that of the original one-stage expansion system. Furthermore, the two-stage expansion system showed significant performance improvements when the two-stage expansion stage from highest pressure of 70bar, intermediate expansion pressure of 25bar, and final low pressure of 10bar is applied. The COP of the new two-stage auto-cascade system (2.332) was 43.15% higher than that of the present simple auto-cascade system (1.629). Refrigerants having an evaporation temperature of $-10^{\circ}C$ or lower can be obtained that can be easily evaporated in an evaporator even at a low temperature.

The operating parameters considered in this study include subcooling and superheating degree, compressor efficiency, and condensing and evaporating temperature in the ammonia(R717) high temperature cycle and the carbon dioxide low temperature cycle. The main results were summarized as follows : The COP of two-stage cascade refrigeration system increases with the increasing subcooling degree, but decreases with the increasing superheating degree. The COP of two-stage cascade refrigeration system decreases with the increasing condensing temperature, but increases with the increasing evaporating temperature. And the COP of two-stage cascade refrigeration system increases with increasing the compressor efficiency. Therefore, superheating and subcoolng degree, compressor efficiency, and evaporating and condensing temperature of $NH_3-CO_2$(R717-R744) two-stage cascade refrigeration system have an effect on the COP of this system.

Therefore, superheating and subcoolng degree, evaporating and condensing temperature of cascade refrigeration system using $NH_3-CO_2$ have an effect on the COP of this system. A multilinear regression analysis was employed in terms of subcooling, superheating, evaporating, condensing, and cascade heat exchanger temperature difference in order to develop mathematical expressions for maximum COP and an optimum evaporating temperature.

A Cascade Control Algorithm for the CO Level Control of a Long Road Tunnel (터널 일산화탄소 농도 제어를 위한 직렬 제어 알고리즘)

  • For a long road tunnel, a tunnel ventilation system may be used in order to reduce the pollution level below the required level. To control the tunnel pollution level, a closed loop control algorithm may be used. The cascade control algorithm, which composed of a jet fan control algorithm and an air velocity setpoint algorithm, was developed to regulate the CO level in a tunnel. The verification of control algorithms was carried out by dynamic models developed from real tunnel data sets. The simulation results showed that control algorithms developed for this study were effective to control the tunnel ventilation system.

  • This paper focuses on a horizontal waypoint tracking and a speed control of large diameter unmanned underwater vehicles (LDUUVs) with X-stern configuration plane. The concerned design problem is converted into an asymptotic stabilization of the error dynamics with respect to the desired yaw angle and surge speed. It is proved that the error dynamics under the proposed control scheme based on the linear control and the feedback linearization can be considered as a cascade system; the cascade system is asymptotically stable if its nominal systems are so. This stability connection enables to separately deal with the waypoint tracking problem and the speed control one. By using the sector nonlinearity, the nominal system with nonlinearities is modeled as a polytopic linear parameter varying (LPV) system with parametric uncertainties. Then, sufficient linear matrix inequality (LMI) conditions for its asymptotic stabilizability are derived in the sense of Lyapunov stability criterion. An example is given to show the validity of the proposed methodology.

  • Generally, fuel cell has characteristics of low voltage, large current and voltage variation under load change. Therefore, DC output voltage of fuel cell is too low to convert into AC with high efficiency and good performance. For this reason, fuel cell generating system is composed of DC-DC converter and inverter in cascade. This paper used 2-phase boost DC-DC converter to obtain low distortion waveform and reduce input-output current ripple, and discussed inverter which can be operated in independent drive mode and utility line interface drive mode. Then, the change of modes can be achived smoothly.
