  • The heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of $CO_{2}$ are substantially different from those for CFC and HCFC refrigerants. In addition, geometric effects on two-phase flow patterns of $CO_{2}$ are also very significant in many respects. Therefore, two-phase flow patterns of $CO_{2}$ in a narrow rectangular channel or a small diameter tube whose gap size or hydraulic diameter is less than 2 mm are very important to understand heat transfer characteristics and to develop an appropriate heat transfer correlation. In the present study, the evaporation process of $CO_{2}$ in a narrow rectangular channel is visualized at various test conditions, and then the effects of operating conditions are analyzed.

  • The effect of $CO_2$ on the opening of stomata in the intact leaf of Commelina communis has been investigated. Full opening of stomatal apertures(around $18{\mu}m$) was achieved in the intact leaf by addition of $CO_2$($900{\mu}mol\;mol^{-1}$). At 90 minutes, the stomatal apertures of leaves treated with $CO_2$ free air were reduced. In contrast, stomata opened most widely with the treatment of $CO_2$ air at 90 minutes. The effects of light, $CO_2$ air and $CO_2$ free air on the change of membrane potential difference(PD) were measured. Fast hyperpolarization of guard cell membrane PD was recorded reaching up to -12 mV in response to light. If $CO_2$ free air was given firstly, there was no response. When light was given after $CO_2$ free air, the light effect was very clear. At the onset of $CO_2$ air, the PD showed a dramatic hyperpolarization to about -25 mV. Changes in the pH of apoplast in intact leaves in response to $CO_2$ air were observed. $CO_2$ air caused a change of 0.4 pH unit. Therefore, it can be hypothesized that $CO_2$ flowing could stimulate proton efflux which is a necessary precursor of stomatal opening.

  • This study wa s conducted a s pa rt of ma ximizing the use of ca rbon dioxide by a pplying CCU(Ca rbon Ca pture, Utiliza tion) a mong technologies for reducing CO2 in the cement industry. In a carbon dioxide curing environment, changes in carbonation depth and changes in basic physical properties by age due to the mixing of carbonation reaction accelerators were usually targeted at Portland cement paste. In addition, in order to check the fixed amount of CO2 in the concrete field, a thermal analysis method was applied to evaluate CaCO3 decarbonization at high temperatures. As a result of the evaluation, it was confirmed that the carbonation depth in the cured body significantly increased due to the incorporation of CRA in the carbonation depth diffusion performance. In addition, it was confirmed that the weight reduction rate increased by 23.8 % and 40.77 %, respectively, compared to Plain, in the order of curing conditions for constant temperature and humidity and curing conditions for carbonation chambers, so it was confirmed that the amount of excellent CaCO3 produced by the addition of CRA increased as the concentration of CO2 increased.

  • Unlike conventional building materials, the living building material (LBM) cube is composed of sand, gelatin, and cyanobacteria without cement. The surface of the LBM cube absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere by photosynthesis and is deposited in the form of CaCO3. In addition, the crystals generated in this process strengthened the gelatin-sand structure to enhance the compressive strength.

  • With vigorous development of petroleum and chemical industry, emission of carbon dioxide has attracted tremendous attention globally due to global warming problem and abnormal climate change. To address these problems, in this study, a PEGBEM-g-POEM graft copolymer with high $CO_2$ affinity was synthesized and $CaCO_3$ was incorporated to form mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) for enhancement of $CO_2$ permeance. By varying the addition weight of $CaCO_3$ in MMMs, high separation performance of $CO_2$ over $N_2$ was obtained. At 50 wt% loading of $CaCO_3$, the greatest separation performance was obtained with an enhanced $CO_2$ permeance from 22.5 to 28.16 GPU and slightly increased $CO_2/N_2$ selectivity from 44.7 to 45.42. It resulted from the increased $CO_2$ solubility of MMMs due to specific interaction between $CaCO_3$ and $CO_2$ molecules. Upon excess loading of $CaCO_3$, MMMs exhibited loss of $CO_2$ separation performance due to the formation of interfacial defects. Based on this result, it is considered that the proper addition of $CaCO_3$ is crucial for improvement of $CO_2$ separation performance.

  • Based on the differential electrode equilibria approach, potentiometric YSZ sensors with semiconducting oxide electrodes for CO detection are developed. To improve the selectivity, sensitivity and response-time of the sensor, our strategy includes (a) selection of an oxide with a semiconducting response to CO, (b) addition of other semiconducting materials, (c) addition of a catalyst (Pd), (d) utilization of combined p- and n-type electrodes in one sensor configuration, and (e) optimization of operating temperatures. Excellent sensing performance is obtained by a novel device structure incorporating $La_2CuO_4$ electrodes on one side and $TiO_2$-based electrodes on opposite substrate faces with Pt contacts. The resulting response produces additive effects for the individual $La_2CuO_4$ and $TiO_2$-based electrodes voltages, thereby realizing an even higher CO sensitivity. The device also is highly selective to CO versus NO with minor sensitivity for NO concentration, compared to a notably large CO sensitivity.

  • Dense $0.95(Na_{0.5}K_{0.5})NbO_3-0.05LiTaO_3$ (NKN-5LT) ceramics were developed by conventional sintering process. Sintering temperature was lowered by adding $Na_2CO_3$ as a sintering aid. The electrical properties of NKN-5LT ceramics were investigated as a function of $Na_2CO_3$ concentration. When the sample sintered at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 4 h with the addition of 1 mol% $Na_2CO_3$, electro-mechanical coupling factor $(k_p)$ and piezoelectric coefficient $(d_{33})$ of NKN-5LT ceramics were found to reach the highest values of 0.43 and 190 pC/N, respectively.

The Economic Impacts of CCS Marine Geological Storage Demonstration Project on the National Economy using Input-output Analysis (이산화탄소 해양지중저장사업의 경제적 파급효과 분석)

  • In this study, we attempt to examine the economic impacts of the CCS marine geological storage demonstration project in Korea using Input-Output analysis utilizing the inter-industry relation table issued in 2013. In particular, this study defines the $CO_2$ ocean storage industry and then added the inter-industry relation table and treated the $CO_2$ ocean storage industry as exogenous. In addition, this study assumed two scenarios based on the means of $CO_2$ transport, which are pipe and ship. After defining the industry and scenarios, this study investigates the production-inducing effect, value added inducing effect, and employment-inducing effect of the industries associated with the $CO_2$ ocean storage industry based on a demand-driven model. The results pertaining to the scenarios are estimated as follows: total production-inducing effects, value added inducing effects, and employment-inducing effects are calculated as 1.9044 won, 1.2487 won and 16.7224 people/billion won, respectively. In addition, compared to other industries, the indirect economic impacts of the $CO_2$ ocean storage industry are ranked high: the rankings of production-inducing effects, value added inducing effects, and employment-inducing effects are fourth, second, and fifth, respectively.

  • The catalytic performance of Co-Mn-Br system was performed in the 2,6-dimethylnaphthalene(DMN) oxidation at relatively mild reaction conditions such as $160^{\circ}C$ and $6kg/cm^2$. Experiments were conducted using a $2{\ell}$ batch reactor with varying the concentrations of catalysts. The reaction route of DMN oxidation was considered by measuring the concentration of intermediate species. As the intermediate species, 2-formyl-6-naphthoic acid, 2-methyl-6-naphthoic acid and 2-hydroxymethyl-6-methylnaphthalene are found. It was found that the yield of 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid(NDA) is largely dependent on the Co and Br concentrations. In addition, it was observed that color-b was closely related with Mn concentration in this experimental range. The burning loss of solvent could be reduced by controlling the concentration of Mn and Br. Addition of small amount of Ce and Cu compounds led to increase the NDA yields and decrease the burning amount of solvent.

Interaction Between Transparent Dielectric of Bi2O3-B2O3-BaO-ZnO Glass and Ag Electrode (Bi2O3-B2O3-BaO-ZnO계 투명유전체와 Ag 전극의 반응)

  • This study investigates $Bi_2O_3$-$B_2O_3$-BaO-ZnO glass with variations of the $Co_3O_4$ content (0.25, 0.5, 1, and 2 wt%) and the interaction between transparent dielectric and Ag electrodes heat-treated at $500-560^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. The glass transition temperature, softening temperature and thermal expansion coefficient were $432^{\circ}C$, $460^{\circ}C$ and $81.4{\times}10^{-7}/^{\circ}C$, respectively. The transmittance of 0.25 wt% $Co_3O_4$ to which dielectric was added was highest and was decreased due to coloration with the addition of more than 0.25 wt%. However, without $Co_3O_4$, the transmittance of the transparent layer was decreased due to the formation of $Ba_5Bi_3$; however, the occurrence of the crystal phase decreased as a result of the addition of $Co_3O_4$. The amount of $Co^{2+}$ ions increased as the $Co_3O_4$ increased. With a maximum of $Co^{3+}$ ions, the highest transmittance was observed.
