  • A new method for HRV(heart rate variability} detection from the R-wave signal, based on the IPFM (integral pulse frequency modulation) model and its similarity to pulse position modulation, is presented. The proposed method exert lowpass filtering with a Kaiser window. In this paper, The proposed method presents a powerful, but simple, tool for investigation of HRV. It also guarantees real-time behavior, simplicity in design, and phase linearity. Even without the basic assumption of IPFM model, the new algorithm can still be used on-line and with higher performance. It is thoroughly proved that lowpass filtering is an ideal method for PSD (Power Spectrum Density) analysis of HRV.

  • This paper compiles solutions of plastic $\eta$ factors and crack tip stress triaxialites for standard and nonstandard fracture toughness testing specimens, via detailed three-dimensional (3-D) finite element (FE) analyses. Fracture toughness testing specimens include a middle cracked tension (M(T)) specimen, SE(B), single-edge cracked bar in tension (SE(T)) and C(T) specimen. The ligament-to-thickness ratio of the specimen is systematically varied. It is found that the use of the CMOD overall provides more robust experimental J estimation than that of the LLD, for all cases considered in the present work. Moreover, the J estimation based on the load-CMOD record is shown to be insensitive to the specimen thickness, and thus can be used for testing specimen with any thickness. The effects of in-plane and out-of-plane constraint on the crack tip stress triaxiality are also quantified, so that when experimental J value is estimated according to the procedure recommended in this paper, the corresponding crack tip stress triaxiality can be estimated. Moreover, it is found that the out-of-plane constraint effect is related to the in-plane constraint effect.

  • Energy group structure has a significant effect on the results of multigroup transport calculations. It is known that $UO_2-PuO_2$ (MOX) is a recently developed fuel which consumes recycled plutonium. For such fuel which contains various resonant nuclides, the selection of energy group structure is more crucial comparing to the $UO_2$ fuels. In this paper, in order to improve the accuracy of the integral results in MOX thermal lattices calculated by WIMSD-5B code, a swarm intelligence method is employed to optimize the energy group structure of WIMS library. In this process, the NJOY code system is used to generate the 69 group cross sections of WIMS code for the specified energy structure. In addition, the multiplication factor and spectral indices are compared against the results of continuous energy MCNP-4C code for evaluating the energy group structure. Calculations performed in four different types of $H_2O$ moderated $UO_2-PuO_2$ (MOX) lattices show that the optimized energy structure obtains more accurate results in comparison with the WIMS original structure.

  • As the huge economical loss and function paralysis of information technology-based systems can be caused by the misoperation of residual current devices(RCDs) due to surge voltages and currents, RCDs shall not operate by surge currents. In this paper, in order to evaluate the reliability of residual current operated circuit-breakers with integral overcurrent protection for household and similar uses((RCBOs) stressed by surges, the unintended trip characteristics of RCBOs under surge currents were experimentally investigated using the combination wave generator. Seven different types of single-phase RCBOs being present on the domestic market were investigated according to KS C IEC 61009-1 standard. As a result, all kinds of specimens were satisfied the requirements for 0.5 [${\mu}s$]/100[kHz] ring wave impulse currents. Most of specimens stressed by the 8/20[${\mu}s$] impulse current tripped at least one or more, and some of them were broken down during consecutive tests. It was found that only one type of specimens meets the L-N mode immunity to the combination wave of 1.2/50[${\mu}s$] impulse voltage and 8/20[${\mu}s$] impulse current.

  • An improved version of current-regulated delta modulator (CRDM) is investigated for the output cunent control of v voltage-source inverters that have transformer-coupled series resonant load and are operated at the resonant frequency. Conventional CRDM has not only CUlTent offset problem but also transformer flux saturation problem when i it is applied to induction heating systems that have transformel-coupled loads. To cope with these problems, the effect of flux saturation is analysed, and simple method to av이d the problem is proposed. And integral type of CRDM is a adopted to remove the cunent offset. The boundaries of integrator gain for stable operation is calculated using the c concept of sliding mode controL The validity of proposed strategy is vel퍼ed through simulations and prototype e experiments.

  • A novel inverter fault-tolerant control scheme is proposed to drive brushless DC motor. A fault-tolerant inverter and its three fault-tolerant schemes (i.e., phase A fault-tolerant, phase B fault-tolerant, and phase C fault-tolerant) are analyzed. Eight voltage vectors are summarized and a voltage vector selection table is used in the control scheme to improve the midpoint current of the split capacitors. A stator flux observer is proposed. The observer can improve flux estimation, which does not require any speed adaptation mechanism and is immune to speed estimation error. Global stability of the flux observer is guaranteed by the Lyapunov stability analysis. A novel stator resistance estimator is incorporated into the sensorless drive to compensate for the effects of stator resistance variation. DC offset effects are mitigated by introducing an integral component in the observer gains. Finally, a control system based on the control scheme is established. Simulation and experiment results show that the method is correct and feasible.

  • A novel fully passive small modular superheated water reactor (SWR) for underwater deployment is designed to produce 160 MWe with steam at $500^{\circ}C$ to increase the thermodynamic efficiency compared with standard light water reactors. The SWR design is based on a conceptual 400-MWe integral SWR using the internally and externally cooled annular fuel (IXAF). The coolant boils in the external channels throughout the core to approximately the same quality as a conventional boiling water reactor and then the steam, instead of exiting the reactor pressure vessel, turns around and flows downward in the central channel of some IXAF fuel rods within each assembly and then flows upward through the rest of the IXAF pins in the assembly and exits the reactor pressure vessel as superheated steam. In this study, new cladding material to withstand high temperature steam in addition to the fuel mechanical and safety behavior is investigated. The steam temperature was found to depend on the thermal and mechanical characteristics of the fuel. The SWR showed a very different transient behavior compared with a boiling water reactor. The inter-play between the inner and outer channels of the IXAF was mainly beneficial except in the case of sudden reactivity insertion transients where additional control consideration is required.

  • Clutches are an integral part of the automatic transmission for changing gears. Modern automatic transmissions make extensive use of wet multiple-disc clutches employing hydraulic actuation mechanism with electronic control. Although nowadays, highly advanced shifting algorithm implements the superior shift quality and transmission efficiency, its performance should be based on smooth, reliable engagement with a reasonably durable friction material as well as stable clutch piston dynamics. Particularly, clutch filling control is the crucial part of shifting process because only the open-loop control is available due to the lack of measurement. In this paper, the effect of clutch-fill control parameters on clutch piston dynamics is experimentally investigated by using clutch piston test equipment which enables the clutch piston to actuate similar to real shifting conditions. The experimental analysis results can be expected to be utilized for the calibration of proportional solenoid valve as reference current profile data in vehicle test.

  • Elevated linear parks have the potential to support the ecological stability, city amenity, cultural opportunity, and health benefits of urban dwellers; these are increasingly becoming an integral part of the urban infrastructure. Due to structural limitations in space, linear parks need to be planned to increase the value of green space. This study was aimed at advancing urban planning techniques for increasing the value of elevated linear parks, by comparing the Seoullo7017 with the Promenade $plant{\acute{e}}e$ and the Highline. Planning characteristics of these green spaces were analyzed from the perspectives of physical planning factors, amenity values for users, and management systems. Field surveys and virtual tools were used to investigate the current characteristics of these parks, in addition to the literature survey. From the analysis of planning factors, amenity values, and management in the three linear parks, following important recommendations were made in order to promote the values of these parks: (a) diversify planting design for increasing the diversity of green space in a narrow area; (b) bring in various forms of amenities to promote the quality of users' experience; and (c) establish community-based management systems for enhancing regional competitiveness and profit sharing in urban regeneration projects.

  • As the number of electric vehicles (EVs) in Jejudo Island increases, the secondary use of EV batteries is becoming increasingly mandatory not only in reducing greenhouse gas emissions but also in promoting resource conservation. For the secondary use of EV batteries, their capacity and performance at the end of automotive service should be evaluated properly. In this study, the battery state information from the on-board diagnostics or OBD2 port was acquired in real time while driving three distinct routes in Jejudo Island, and then the battery operating characteristics were assessed with the driving routes. The route with higher altitude led to higher current output, i.e., higher C-rate, which would reportedly deteriorate state of health (SOH) faster. In addition, the SOH obtained from the battery management system (BMS) of a 2017 Kia Soul EV with a mileage of 55,000 km was 100.2%, which was unexpectedly high. This finding was confirmed by the SOH estimation based on the ratio of the current integral to the change in state of charge. The SOH larger than 100% can be attributed to the rated capacity that was lower than the nominal capacity in EV application. Therefore, considering the driving environment and understanding the SOH estimation process will be beneficial and necessary in evaluating the capacity and performance of retired batteries for post-vehicle applications.
