  • Ternary Ti-B-C coatings were synthesized on WC-Co and Si wafers substrates by a PECVD technique using a gaseous mixture of $TiCl_4,\;BCl_3,\;CH_4,\;Ar,\;and\; H_2$. The effects of deposition variables such as substrate temperature, gas ratio, $R_x=[BCl_3/(CH_4+BCl_3)]$ on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti-B-C coatings were investigated. From our instrumental analyses, the synthesized Ti-B-C coatings was confirmed to be composites consisting of nanocrystallites TiC, quasi-amorphous TiB2, and amorphous carbon at low boron content, on the contrary, nanocrystallites $TiB_2$, quasi-amorphous TiC, and amorphous carbon at relatively high boron content. The microhardness of the Ti-B-C coatings increased from $\~23 GPa$ of TiC to $\~38 GPa$ of $Ti_{0.33}B_{0.55}C_{0.11}$ coatings with increasing the boron content. The $Ti_{0.33}B_{0.55}C_{0.11}$ coatings showed lower average friction coefficient of 0.45, in addition, it showed relatively better wear behavior compared to other binary coatings of $TiB_2$ and TiC. The microstruture and microhardness value of Ti-B-C coatings were largely depend on the deposition temperature.

  • The experiment was conducted for a period of 56 days with twelve Bangladeshi bull calves of average body weight of $127.20{\pm}11.34$ kg. The calves were divided into 3 groups having 4 animals in each. The animals were fed urea-treated rice straw designated as A) 4% urea-treated rice straw, B) 4% urea+4% soybean-treated rice straw and C) 4% urea+6% soybean-treated rice straw. In addition, all the animals were supplied 2 kg green grass, 350 g Til-oil-cake and 100 g common salt per 100 kg body weight of animals. Straw was treated with 4% urea solution and soybean meal at 4 and 6% were added to treated straw and kept for 48 h in double layer polythene bags under anaerobic condition. Urea treatment improved crude protein (CP) content of rice straw from 2.68 to 8.70% and it was further increased by 10.74 and 12.12% with the addition of 4 and 6% soybean meal. Dry matter (DM) intake (kg) was higher (p<0.05) in C (4.2) followed by B (4.1) and A (4.0). Crude protein intake was significantly higher (p<0.05) in group B and C than group A. Total live weight gains were 20.2, 24.8 and 25.6 kg for calves of group A, B and C respectively (p<0.01). The addition of soybean meal to treated rice straw did not affect the coefficients of digestibility of DM, OM, EE and NFE. However, CP and CF digestibility were significantly higher in group B and C (p<0.05). The values for digestible crude protein (DCP), digestible ether extract (DEE), digestible nitrogen free extract (DNFE) and total digestible nutrients (TDN) were significantly (p<0.05) higher in diet C and B in comparison to diet A, but there were no significant difference in digestible organic matter (DOM) and digestible crude fibre (DCF) value among the groups. It may be concluded that 4% urea treated rice straw can be fed to growing bull calves with 2 kg green grass and a small quantity of concentrate without any adverse effect on feed intake and growth. Moreover, soybean meal at 4 and 6% can be added to urea treated rice straw at the time of treatment for rapid hydrolyzing of urea, which resulted an improvement in nutrient digestibility and better utilization of rice straw for growth of growing bull calves.

  • The effect of pressureless-sintered temperature on the densification behavior, mechanical and electrical properties of the $SiC-ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites was investigated. The $SiC-ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites were pressureless-sintered for 2 hours at temperatures in the range of $1,750{\sim}1,900[^{\circ}C]$, with an addition of 12[wt%] of $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$(6:4 mixture of $Al_2O_3\;and\;Y_2O_3$) as a sintering aid. The relative density and mechanical properties are increased markedly at temperatures in the range of $1,850{\sim}1,900[{^\circ}C]$. The relative density, flexural strength, vicker's hardness and fracture toughness showed the highest value of 81.1[%], 230[MPa], 9.88[GPa] and $6.05[MPa\;m^{1/2}]$ for $SiC-ZrB_2$ composites of $1,900[{^\circ}C]$ sintering temperature at room temperature respectively. The electrical resistivity was measured by the Pauw method in the temperature ranges from $25[{^\circ}C]\;to\;700[{^\circ}C]$, The electrical resistivity showed the value of $1.36{\times}10^{-4},\;3.83{\times}10^{-4},\;3.51{\times}10^{-4}\;and\; 3.2{\times}10^{-4}[{\Omega}{\cdot}cm]$ for SZ1750, SZ1800, SZ1850 and SZ1900 respectively at room temperature. The electrical resistivity of the composites was all PTCR(Positive Temperature Coefficient Resistivity). The resistance temperature coefficient showed the value of $4.194{\times}10^{-3},\;3,740{\times}10^{-3},\;2,993{\times}10^{-3},\;3,472{\times}10^{-3}/[^{\circ}C}$ for SZ1750, SZ1800, SZ1850 and SZ1900 respectively in the temperature ranges from $25[{\circ}C]\;to\;700[{\circ}C]$, It is assumed that because polycrystallines such as recrystallized $SiC-ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites, contain of porosity and In Situ $YAG(Al_5Y_3O_{12})$ crystal grain boundaries, their electrical conduction mechanism are complicated. In addition, because the condition of such grain boundaries due to $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives widely varies with sintering temperature, electrical resistivity of the $SiC-ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites with sintering temperature also varies with sintering condition. It is convinced that ${\beta}-SiC$ based electroconductive ceramic composites for heaters or ignitors can be manufactured by pressureless sintering.

  • The microwave dielectric properties and the microstructures on B $i_{0.97}$T $m_{0.03}$Nb $O_4$ doped with $V_2$ $O_{5}$ were systematically investigated. B $i_{0.97}$T $m_{0.03}$Nb $O_4$ ceramics sintered at 920-96$0^{\circ}C$ were mainly consisted of orthorhombic and triclinic phases after addition of $V_2$ $O_{5}$. The apparent density increased slightly with increasing the $V_2$ $O_{5}$ addition. The dielectric constants($\varepsilon$$_{r}$) also increased with $V_2$ $O_{5}$ addition(30-45). The Q${\times}$ $f_{0}$ values measured on B $i_{0.97}$T $m_{0.03}$Nb $O_4$ ceramics doped with $V_2$ $O_{5}$ were between 2,000 and 12,000[GHz] when the sintering temperatures were in the range of 920-960[$^{\circ}C$]. It was confirmed that the temperature coefficient of the resonant frequency($\tau$$_{f}$) can be adjusted from a positive value of +10ppm/$^{\circ}C$ to a negative value of -15ppm/$^{\circ}C$ by increasing the amount of $V_2$ $O_{5}$ Based on our experimental results, the B $i_{0.97}$T $m_{0.03}$Nb $O_4$(added $V_2$ $O_{5}$) ceramics can be applied to multilayer microwave devices at low sintering temperatures.ng temperatures.emperatures.ratures.

  • In this paper, an efficient signal tracking method to simultaneously track both GPS L1 C/A and Galileo E1B CBOC(6,1,1/11) using a low cost GPU is proposed. In the existing method that each GNSS signal is processed within 1 ms, more than 2 ms processing time is required in GPU to process 4 ms CBOC signal. It means that real time operation is possible if only Galileo E1B CBOC signal is concerned. But when both GPS C/A and Galileo CBOC is required, it cannot process GPS C/A signal in real time. To process 1 ms GPS C/A and 4 ms Galileo CBOC signal in real time, 4 ms Galileo CBOC signal is divided into 4 by 1 ms signal block in the proposed method. Specially, a buffer that simultaneously manages 1 ms and 4 ms signals is designed. In addition, a module that accumulates the 1 ms correlation value of the Galileo CBOC by 4 ms and passes it to the PLL and DLL is implemented. The operation and performance are evaluated with real measurements in the GPU based SDR. The experimental results show that tracking of more than 16 satellites of GPS C/A and Galileo E1B is possible using the proposed method.

  • Ternary B-C-N coatings were deposited on Si(100) wafer substrate from $B_4C$ target by RF magnetron sputtering technique in $Ar+N_2+CH_4$ gas mixture. In this work, the effect of reactant gas ratio, $CH_4/(N_2+CH_4)$ on the composition, kinds and amounts of bonding states comprising B-C-N coatings were investigated using two different bias power sources of continuous and unipolar DCs. In addition, the tribological properties of coatings were studied with the composition and bonding state of coating. It was found that the substrate bias power had an effect on chemical composition, and all of the obtained coatings were nearly amorphous. Main bonding states of coatings were revealed from FTIR analyses to be h-BN, C-C, C-N, and B-C. The amount of C-C bonging mainly increased with increase of the reactant gas ratio. From our studies, both C-C and h-BN bonding states improved the tribological properties but B-C one was found to be harmful on those. The best coating from tribological points of view was found to be $BC_{1.9}N_{2.3}$ composition.

  • Effects of the additions of SiB4 as burnable poison to UO2 on the green density, densification, interdependence between density-grain growth and microstructure of sintered UO2 were studied. UO2 pellets were sintered in flowing hydrogen, at temperature 1200, 1350, 1500, and 168$0^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours and at 168$0^{\circ}C$ for 0, 1, 3, and 10 hours, respectively. Green densities were in the range of about 4.5~5.4 g/㎤, and decreased as the amount of SiB4 increased when green pellets were made by with use of a double action press at 1000 kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The density of sintered UO2 pellets was around 92~94% of the theoretical density and did not change significantly as the amount of SiB2 addition increased. However, the density of sintered pellets decreased with the increase in SiB4. The grain growth could be characterized in terms of two stages: Grain growth occurred with the increasing density in the first stage, whereas the second stage was characterized by the grain growth without increasing of density. A liquid phase was observed at grain boundaries and grain edges in the microstructure of sintered UO2 pellets with 5000 ppm and 10,000 ppm SiB4. This liquid, possible formed at about 168$0^{\circ}C$, did not enhance the shrinkage, but appeared to accelarate the grain growth. It seems that the second stage grain growth was due to the presence of pressurized insoluble trapped gas in isolated pores.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of addition of perilla leaf(PL) powder and carcass grade on the surface color, residual nitrite and shelf-life of pork sausage. Pork sausage was prepared by four type such as grade B pork sausage(A sausage), grade B pork sausage containing perilla leaf(B sausage), grade I pork sausage(C sausage) and grade I pork sausage containing perilla leaf(D sausage) and the surface color, residual nitrite, pH, volatile basic nitrogen(VBN), thiobarbituric acid reactive substances(TBARS) and total bacterial counts of the samples were determined during storage at 4$^{\circ}C$. $L^*$ value of pork sausage showed the highest early stage of storage, pork sausage containing PL was lower than pork sausage without PL. The $a^*$ value of A sausage had the lowest on the storage of 8th week, B sausage had the highest on the storage of 4th week, and the $a^*$ value of C and D sausage were not significantly different during storage. The$a^*$ value of pork sausage containing PL was lower than pork sausage without PL, the $b^*$ value was higher than pork sausage without PL. The residual nitrite of pork sausage containing PL highly decreased until storage for 2 weeks, pork sausage without PL highly decreased until storage for 4 weeks, therefore addition of PL was affected in the reduction of residual nitrite of pork sausage. The pH of A and B sausage decreased until storage at 4 weeks, but increased from 6 weeks. The VBN contents were 6.7~8.4 mg% in the early stage of storage, was 16.1~19.5 mg% on the storage of 8th weeks. The TBARS of pork sausage were increased gradually during storage. Pork sausage containing PL showed lower value than pork sausage non added PL during storage. The total bacterial counts of pork sausage were increased gradually during storage, pork sausage containing PL was lower than that of free PL during storage.
