$\beta-SiC+39vol.%TiB_2$ 복합체의 전기저항률 (Electrical Resistivity of the $\beta-SiC+39vol.%TiB_2$ Composites)

  • The composites were fabricated 61 vol% $\beta$-SiC and $39vol%TiB_2$ powders with the liquid forming additives of 8, 12, 16wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ by hot pressing at $1730^{\circ}C$ and subsequent pressed annealing and pressureless annealing at $1750^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours to form YAG. The result of phase analysis of composites by XRD revealed $\alpha$-SiC(6H), $TiB_2$, and YAG($Al_5Y_3O_{12}$) crystal phase. The relative density of composites were increased with increasing $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ contents. The fracture toughness showed the highest value of $7.77MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$ for composites added with 12wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives at room temperature. The electrical resistivity and the resistance temperature coefficient showed the lowest of $7.3{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ and $3.8{\times}10^{-3}/^{\circ}C$, respectively, for composite added with 12wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives at room temperature. The electrical resistivity of the composites was all positive temperature coefficient resistance(PTCR) in the temperature range of $25^{\circ}C$ to $700^{\circ}C$.

  • 금속기지 복합물은 구조용 재료로서 매우 우수한 성질을 지니고 있어 광범위하게 연구되어져 왔다. $Al_2O_3$와 SiC는 그들의 우수한 기계적 특성 때문에 일반적인 보강재로서 사용되어져 왔다. 그러나 이들 세라믹 보강재는 비싼 재조 비용 때문에 특별한 목적을 위해서만 한정되어 사용되어져 왔다. 본 연구에서는 우리는 Al 합금기지 복합물에서 SHS법에 의해 합성된 $Al_2O_3$-SiC 분말의 보강재로서의 응용 가능성을 살펴보았다. 또한 $Al_2O_3$단섬유를 Al기지 하이브리드 복합물에 적용하기 위하여 합성된 분말과 함께 첨가하였다. 25vol% 강화재의 복합물을 제조하기 위하여 용탕단조법을 사용하였다. 미세구조와 결정구조는 SEM, OM 그리고 XRD로 관찰하였고 압축시험과 마모시험으로 기계적인 성질들을 조사하였다.

Al2O3-SiC 복합재료의 미세조직 및 기계적 물성에 미치는 SiC 원료분말의 크기 영향 (Effect of SiC Particle Size on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties Of Al2O3-SiC Composite)

  • 서로 다른 크기의 SiC 원료분말을 첨가한 A1$_2$O$_3$-SiC 복합재료의 미세조직과 그에 따른 기계적 물성의 변화를 관찰하였다. 0.15 $mu extrm{m}$의 SiC가 첨가된 복합재료의 경우 기지상의 입성장이 효과적으로 억제되었다 그러나, 소수의 비정상입자가 생성된 이후에는 이들 입자의 급격한 성장으로 불규칙한 형상의 커다란 입자로 구성된 미세조직을 보이며, 파괴강도값은 급격히 감소하였다. 3 $\mu\textrm{m}$의 SiC가 첨가된 경우에는 기지상의 입성장이 일어났으나, 소수의 비정상입자가 생성된 이후에는 과도한 입성장은 억제되고 일정한 크기의 비정상입자가 시편 전체에 균일하게 형성된 미세조직을 보였다. 한편, 0.15 $\mu\textrm{m}$와 3 $\mu\textrm{m}$의 SiC 입자를 동시에 첨가한 시편은 균일한 크기의 비정상입성장의 미세조직을 보였으나, 비정상입성장이 일어났음에도 불구하고 기계적 물성은 우수하게 유지되었다 즉, 비정상입성장에 의해 미세조직에는 큰 변화가 일어났으나, 파괴강도값에는 변화가 없었다.

분사주조한 Al기지 입자강화 복합재료의 마모특성 (Characterization of Wear Resistance of Particle Reinforced Al Matrix Composite Manufactured by Centrifugal Spray Casting)

  • $Al_2O_3$, SiC reinforced Al matrix composites were fabricated by centrifugal spray casting method and their wear resistance characteristics have been studied. Particles are generally uniformly distributed in the microstructure of as-cast specimens. In order to investigate the effect of secondary deformation, hot rolling was performed for each specimen of pure Al matrix composites with a reduction of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50% at $400{\sim}500^{\circ}C$, respectively. Microstructure of specimen showed that particle distribution density and hardness increased because of increasing of reduction ratio. Wear test with a various sliding velocity of 1.98, 2.38, 2.88 and 3.53m/sec showed that the wear resistance characterization of composite improved remarkably compared to the normal alloy and performs without reinforced particles. Microstructural observation for the worn surface of pure Al specimens without particles showed that a change in wear mechanism seemed to separate layer by surface fatigue. In other case of Al composite reinforced with $Al_2O_3$ and SiC, the grinder type of wear mechanism was shown.

  • In the present study, AZ91Mg/$\textrm{Al}_2\textrm{O}_3$ short fiber+SiC particulates hybrid metal matrix composites(MMCs) were fabricated by squeeze casting method. Different particulate sizes of 45, 29 and $9\mu\textrm{m}$ were hybridized with 5% volume fraction to investigate the effect of SiC particulates size on microstructure, mechanical and thermal properties such as hardness, flexural strength, wear resistance and thermal expansion. Results show that the microstructure of the hybrid composites were quite satisfactory, namely revealing relatively uniform distribution of reinforcements. Some aggregation of SiC particulates caused by particle pushing was observed especially in the hybrid composites containing in fine particulates($9\mu\textrm{m}$). The hardness and flexural strength were improved by decreasing particulates size, whereas wear resistance improved by increasing particulates size because of large particulates restricting matrix wear from contacted stress. Regardless of particulates size, thermal expansion of composites was the same. This may be because the content of particulates was in all cases 5 volume fraction.1

천이금속에 따른 SiC계 복합체의 전기적 특성 (Electrical Properties of SiC Composites by Transition Metal)

  • The composites were fabricated, respectively, using 61[vol.%]SiC-39[vol.%]$TiB_2$ and using 61[vol.%]SiC-39[vol.%]$ZrB_2$ powders with the liquid forming additives of 12[wt%] $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$ by hot pressing annealing at $1650[^{\circ}C]$ for 4 hours. Reactions between SiC and transition metal $TiB_2$, $ZrB_2$ were not observed in this microstructure. ${\beta}{\rightarrow}{\alpha}$-SiC phase transformation was occurred on the SiC-$TiB_2$ and SiC-$ZrB_2$ composite. The relative density, the flexural strength and Young's modulus showed the highest value of 98.57[%], 226.06[Mpa] and 86.38[Gpa] in SiC-$ZrB_2$ composite at room temperature respectively. The electrical resistivity showed the lowest value of $7.96{\times}10^{-4}[{\Omega}{\cdot}cm]$ for SiC-$ZrB_2$ composite at $25[^{\circ}C]$. The electrical resistivity of the SiC-$TiB_2$ and SiC-$ZrB_2$ composite was all positive temperature coefficient resistance (PTCR) in the temperature ranges from $25[^{\circ}C]$ to $700[^{\circ}C]$. The resistance temperature coefficient of composite showed the value of $6.88{\times}10^{-3}/[^{\circ}C]$ and $3.57{\times}10^{-3}/[^{\circ}C]$ for SiC-$ZrB_2$ and SiC-$TiB_2$ composite in the temperature ranges from $25[^{\circ}C]$ to $700[^{\circ}C]$.

카올린으로부터 Si-Al 탄화물의 합성 및 Si$_3$N$_4$ 결합 소결 특성 (Synthesis of Si-Al Carbonates from Kaolin and Sintering Characteristics by Reaction Bonding Si3N4)

  • In this study, Kaolin was carbonized at 1300~175$0^{\circ}C$ and its constituent mineral change was investigated. Carbonized kaolin at 1$650^{\circ}C$ was mixed with metallic silicon, formed and nitrified at 135$0^{\circ}C$ in N2-NH3 atmosphere. Properties of this product such as porosity, bulk density, MOR, nitrization rate and oxidation resistence were measured, and its mineralogical changes were investigated by XRD. The results were as follows; 1) $\beta$-SiC was initially synthesized at 150$0^{\circ}C$, and its amount was continuously increased with reaction temperature to 1$700^{\circ}C$. 2) At 1$600^{\circ}C$, mullite was rapidly decomposed and the amounts of $\beta$-SiC and $\alpha$-Al2O3 were increased simultaneously. 3) By adding alkali to kaolin, the decomposition temperature of mullite was dropped approximately 10$0^{\circ}C$, but the amount of $\alpha$-SiC was increased. 4) The highest values of their nitrization rate and MOR were obtained at the specimen of 35 wt% metallic silicon in nitrization reaction. 5) It seems that increment of $\alpha$-Si3N4 and $\alpha$-Al2O3 phase during nitrization was due to the decomposition of Al4SiC4 existed in carbonized kaolin. 6) Si3N4 bonded SiC-Al2O3 composite were fabricated from kaolin at relatively low temperature (135$0^{\circ}C$).

SiCf/SiC 복합체의 특성에 미치는 열간가압소결 조건의 영향 (Effects of Hot Pressing Condition on the Properties of SiCf/SiC Composites)

  • Continuous SiC fiber-reinforced SiC-matrix composites ($SiC_f$/SiC) had been fabricated by electrophoretic infiltration combined with ultrasonication. Nano-sized ${\beta}$-SiC added with 12 wt% of $Al_2O_3-Y_2O_3$ additive and Tyranno$^{TM}$-SA3 fabric were used as a matrix phase and fiber reinforcement, respectively. After hot pressing at 5 different conditions, the density, microstructure and mechanical properties of $SiC_f$/SiC were characterized. Hot pressing at relatively severe conditions, such as $1750^{\circ}C$ for 1 and 2 h, resulted in a brittle fracture behavior due to the strong fiber-matrix interface in spite of their high flexural strength. On the other hand, toughened $SiC_f$/SiC composite could be achieved by hot pressing at milder condition because of the formation of weak interface in spite of the decreased flexural strength. These results proposed the importance of weak fiber-matrix interface in the fabrication of ductile $SiC_f$/SiC composite.

The R & D of SiC Fiber Reinforced Composites for Energy and Transportation Applications

  • Based on the inventions of continuous ceramic fibers, such as C, SiC, $Al_2O_3$ etc., by polymer precursor driven methods, there have been many efforts to fabricate ceramic continuous fiber reinforced composite materials with metals and ceramics matrices. The main purpose of the R & D efforts has been to produce materials for severe environments, including advanced energy systems, advanced transportation systems. The efforts have been started from the R & D of metal matrix composite materials and now the strong emphasis on ceramic matrix composites R & D can be recognized. This paper provides a brief review about the national efforts to establish advanced composite materials for future industries starting from mid 70s. C/Al and SiC/Al are the typical examples to be applied transportation systems and energy systems. The excellences in specific strength and overall mechanical properties, the excellences in environmental resistance make those materials as potential materials for advanced ocean construction and marine transportation systems. About the recent progress in ceramic fiber reinforced ceramic composites, advanced SiC/SiC composites including NITE-SiC/SiC will be introduced and the present status will be introduced.

  • The mechanical and electrical properties of the hot-pressed and pressureless annealed SiC-Ti $B_2$electroconductive ceramic composites were investigated as functions of the liquid additives of $Al_2$ $O_3$+ $Y_2$ $O_3$. The result of phase analysis for the SiC-Ti $B_2$ composites by XRD revealed $\alpha$-SiC(6H), Ti $B_2$, and YAG(A $l_{5}$ $Y_3$ $O_{12}$ ) crystal phase. The relative density of SiC-Ti $B_2$ composites was increased with increased $Al_2$ $O_3$+ $Y_2$ $O_3$ contents. The electrical resistivity showed the lowest value of 6.2$\times$10$^{-3}$ $\Omega$ㆍcm for composite added with l6wt% $Al_2$ $O_3$+ $Y_2$ $O_3$ additives at room temperature. The electrical resistivity of the SiC-Ti $B_2$ composites was all positive temperature cofficient resistance(PTCR) in the temperature ranges from $25^{\circ}C$ to $700^{\circ}C$.
