A Study on the Blue Emitting SrAl12O19: Cex3+, Eu0.012+ Using Time-resolved Photoluminescence (SrAl12O19: Cex3+, Eu0.012+에서 시간분해 Photoluminescence을 이용한 청색발광에 관한 연구)

  • $SrAl_{12}O_{19}:Ce_x{^{3+}}$,$Eu_{0.01}{^{2+}}$ phosphors were synthesized through a combustion process and their optical properties were investigated using time-resolved photoluminescence. A PL spectrum showed two dominant peaks which appeared at 300 and 410 nm. It is seen that, as the $Ce^{3+}$ concentration increases, the intensity of 300 nm decreases and the intensity of 410 nm increases. This behavior has been explained by two independent energy transfer mechanism. The first energy transfer occurs from $Ce^{3+}$ ion to $Eu^{3+}$ ion. The second energy transfer takes place from $Ce^{3+}$ ion to $Ce^{3+}-O_{ME}$ complex created in the magnetoplumbite structural host materials. The blue emitting 410 nm peak has been explained by both energy transfer mechanisms.

Crystal Structure Refinement and Persistent Luminescence Properties of Lu3Al5-xGaxO12:Ce3+,Cr3+ Phosphors (Lu3Al5-xGaxO12:Ce3+,Cr3+ 형광체의 결정구조 분석 및 잔광성 발광 특성)

  • Lu3Al5-xGaxO12:Ce3+,Cr3+ powders are prepared using a solid-state reaction method. To determine the crystal structure, Rietveld refinement is performed. The results indicate that Ga3+ ions preferentially occupied tetrahedral rather than octahedral sites. The lattice constant linearly increases, obeying Vegard's law, despite the strong preference of Ga3+ for the tetrahedral sites. Increasing x led to a blue-shift of the Ce3+ emission band in the green region and a change in the emission intensity. Persistent luminescence is observed from the powders prepared with x = 2-3, occurring through a trapping and detrapping process between Ce3+ and Cr3+ ions. The longest persistent luminescence is achieved for x = 2; its lifetime is at least 30 min. The findings are explained using crystal structure refinement, crystal field splitting, optical band gap, and electron trapping mechanism.

  • A novel $Ce^{3+}$ doped $(Ce_xLu_{1-x})_3MgAl_3SiO_{12}$ phosphor was successfully synthesized by a conventional solid-state reaction. Heat-treatment temperature was controlled from 1250 to $1550^{\circ}C$ for 5 h. XRD and PL properties were analyzed for the optimum heat-treatment condition. Ce doping concentration was varied from 2.0 to 10.0 mol% for the optimum Ce doping concentration. The PL intensity, peak wavelength and FWHM were calculated with the Ce doping concentration, and evaluated for the application to LED packaging. Particle size and morphology were also characterized for synthesized phosphor sample at optimum heat-temperature and Ce doping concentration.

Toluene Catalytic Oxidation by Manganese-Cerium Bimetallic Catalysts (Mn-Ce 복합 산화물에 의한 톨루엔 촉매 산화)

  • Activity of manganese oxide supported on ${\nu}-Al_2O_3$ was increased when cerium was added. Also, cerium-added manganese oxide on ${\nu}-Al_2O_3$ was more effective in oxidation of toluene than that without cerium. XRD result, it was observed that $MnO_2+CeO_2$ crystalline phases were present in the samples. For the used catalyst, a prominent feature has increased by XPS. TPR/TPO profiles of cerium-added manganese oxide on ${\nu}-Al_2O_3$ changed significantly increased at a lower temperature. The activity of $18.2 wt{\%}\;Mn+ 10.0 wt{\%}\;Ce/{\nu}-Al_2O_3$ increased at a lower temperature. The cerium added on the manganese catalysts has effects on the oxidation of toluene.

  • RF 마크네트론 스퍼터법으로 Ce의 일부를 희토류 원소로 치환한 Ce$_{1-x}$RE$_{x}$O$_{2-y}$(0.1$\leq$x$\leq$0.4, RE=Y, Nd) 박막을 Si(111), $Al_2$O$_3$(1012) 기판 위에 1450~1$600^{\circ}C$로 소결한 target을 이용하여 성장시켰다. Ce$_{1-x}$RE$_{x}$O$_{2-y}$ 박막의 성장시 기판온도 및 증착시간 등을 변화시켜 성장시켰으며, 성장된 박막의 특성분석은 XRD, SEM, TEM으로 행하였다. 증착된 박막의 방향성 및 결정성장 거동은 증착온도 및 시간에 따라 차이를 보였다. Si(111) 기판 위에 증착된 Ce$_{1-x}$Y$_{x}$O$_{2-y}$(x=0.3) 박막의 경우, 80$0^{\circ}C$에 비해 7$50^{\circ}C$에서 증착 시간에 따른 (111) 우선배향성의 정도가 나은 결과를 보였으며, $Al_2$O$_3$(1012) 기판 위에 증착한 Ce$_{1-x}$Nd$_{x}$O$_{2-y}$(x=0.3) 박막 또는 (111) 우선배향성을 나타내었다.을 나타내었다.

  • Due to environmental pollution, hazards of the human body, and global warning, changes in the power train of automobiles are intensifying, and the market forelectronic vehicles is rising. Also, in order to meet the stricter emission regulations forautomobiles with internal combustion engines based on fossil fuel, the proportion of after-treatments for vehicles and vessels is increasing gradually. The objective of this study is to investigate the effectsfrom additive ceric oxide ($CeO_2$) loading amounts to improve the methane ($CH_4$) and nitric oxide (NOx) abatement ability of the natural gas oxidation catalysts(NGOC) reducing toxic gases emitted from compressed natural gas (CNG) buses. Three kinds of NGOC were prepared under the following conditions: fresh and $700^{\circ}C$ for 12hr thermal aging, and the reduction performance of toxic gases was evaluated. Fresh $1Pt-3Pd-1Rh-3MgO-6CeO_2/(Al+Z)$ NGOC containing 6wt% $CeO_2$ had the highest dispersivity of palladium (Pd) with high selectivity to $CH_4$ and improved harmful gas reduction performance. The NGOC with 6wt% $CeO_2$ loaded the least decreased in the dispersivity of the noble metal, and showed the highest reduction of harmful gases due to the thermal durability of $CeO_2$.

Study on the Reaction between $BaTiO_3$ Ceramics and Oxide Setters ($BaTiO_3$ 세라믹스와 Oxide Setter의 반응성에 관한 연구)

  • BaTiO3 ceramics were sintered on Al2O3, MgAl2O4, MgO and Mg-, Ca-, Y-stabilized zirconia setters. Then the influence of setters on the microstructure of BaTiO3 ceramics and the stability of setters were investigated by SEM, EDAX and XRD analyses. The microstructure of BaTiO3 ceramics sintered on Al2O3, MgAl2O4, MgO and Mg-PSZ showed large grain growth, but little grain growth on Ce-TZP(Tetragonal Zirconia Policrystal). Mg-PSZ(Partially Stabilized Zirconia), Ca-PSZ, Ce-TZP setters showed extensive phase transformation. Y-TZP and fused Y-SZ (Stabilized Zirconia) setters were stable. The liquid sintering aids of BaTiO3 ceramics accelerate mass transport. The reaction of SrTiO3 in BaTiO3 with ZrO2 resulted in the formation of SrZrO3.

Catalytic Gasification of Mandarin Waste Residue using Ni/CeO2-ZrO2

  • Catalytic gasification of mandarin waste residue was carried out using direct and indirect catalyst-contact methods for the first time. In the indirect method, non-catalytic reaction in a reactor was followed by catalytic upgrading of vapor product in another reactor. Two different catalysts, $Ni/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ and $Ni/CeO_2-ZrO_2$, were employed. $CeO_2-ZrO_2$ support was prepared using hydrothermal synthesis in supercritical water. The catalysts were characterized by $H_2$-temperature programmed reduction and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analyses. Under the condition of equivalent ratio (ER) = 0, the indirect catalyst-contact method led to a higher gas yield than the direct method. Under ER = 0.2, the yield of biogas obtained over $Ni/CeO_2-ZrO_2$ was higher than that obtained over $Ni/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$. Also, the coke formation of $Ni/CeO_2-ZrO_2$ was lower than that of $Ni/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$. Such results were attributed to the higher reducibility and better lattice oxygen mobility of $Ni/CeO_2-ZrO_2$, which were advantageous for partial oxidation reaction.
