원전 밸브용 경면처리 합금의 캐비테이션 에로젼 (cavitation erosion) 거동에 관한 연구 (The Study on the Cavitation Erosion Behavior of Hardfacing Alloys for Nuclear Power Plants)

  • The cavitation erosion behavior of wear-resistant hardfacing alloys such as Co-base Stellite 6, Fe-base Norem 02 and new Fe-base alloy were investigated up to 50 hours by using a 20kHz vibratory cavitation erosion test equipment. The crack, initiated easily at the interfaces between matrix and hard second phase, was repressed effectively in Stellite 6 because the matrix was hardened by phase transformation. For this reason, Stellite 6 showed an excellent cavitation erosion resistance compared to Norem 02. The phase transformation also occurred in Norem 02, but the increase of volume fraction of the interfaces caused the crack to be initiated frequently, thus resulting in a 1arge material loss. The matrix of NewAlloy was hardened effectively by vlongrightarrow$\alpha$' phase transformation and the volume fraction of the interfaces was very small compared to Norem 02. This caused the propagation of crack to the matrix to be repressed effectively. Therefore, NewAlloy showed a very excellent cavitation erosion resistance. It wasn't considered that the cavitation erosion resistance of NewAlloy was influenced the temperature of the bath filled with a distilled water up to $80^{\circ}C$.

Hypoxia Inducible Factor-1α Directly Induces the Expression of Receptor Activator of Nuclear Factor-κB Ligand in Chondrocytes

  • Receptor activator of nuclear factor-${\kappa}B$ ligand (RANKL) is an osteoblast/stromal cell-derived essential factor for osteoclastogenesis. During endochondral bone formation, hypertrophic chondrocytes calcify cartilage matrix that is subsequently resorbed by osteoclasts in order to be replaced by new bone. Hypoxia-induced upregulation of RANKL expression has been previously demonstrated in an in vitro system using osteoblasts; however, the involved mechanism remains unclear in chondrocytes. In the present study, we investigated whether hypoxia regulates RANKL expression in ATDC5 cells, a murine chondrogenic cell line, and hypoxia-inducible factor-$1{\alpha}$ (HIF-$1{\alpha}$) mediates hypoxia-induced RANKL expression by transactivating the RANKL promoter. The expression levels of RANKL mRNA and protein, as well as HIF-$1{\alpha}$ protein, were significantly increased in ATDC5 cells under hypoxic condition. Constitutively active HIF-$1{\alpha}$ alone significantly increased the levels of RANKL expression under normoxic conditions, whereas dominant negative HIF-$1{\alpha}$ reduced hypoxia-induced RANKL expression. HIF-$1{\alpha}$ increased RANKL promoter reporter activity in a HIF-$1{\alpha}$ binding element-dependent manner in ATDC5 cells. Hypoxia-induced RANKL levels were much higher in differentiated ATDC5 cells, as compared to proliferating ATDC5 cells. These results suggested that under hypoxic conditions, HIF-$1{\alpha}$ mediates induction of RANKL expression in chondrocytes; in addition, hypoxia plays a role in osteoclastogenesis during endochondral bone formation, at least in part, through the induction of RANKL expression in hypertrophic chondrocytes.

Effects of Interleukin-1${\beta}$ and Tumor Necrosis $Factor-{\alpha}$ on the Release of Collagenase and Gelatinase from Osteoblasts

  • A large number of factors such as osteotropic hormones, cytokines, or growth factors are related to the bone remodeling which is characterized by the coupling of osteoclast-mediated bone resorption and osteoblast-mediated bone formation. Recent investigations have indicated that cytokines such as $interleukin-1{\beta}\;(IL-1{\beta})$ and tumor necrosis $factor-{\alpha}\;(TNF-{\alpha})$ play a potential role in the bone resorption associated with a variety of pathological conditions such as inflammatory osteolytic disease. Collagen is the most abundant protein of the extracellular matrix of bone, and the participation of collagenase in bone resorption has been widely investigated. In this study, effects of $IL-1{\beta}$ and $TNF-{\alpha}$ on the release of collagenase from osteoblastic cells were measured. The gelatinase activity was also measured by gel substrate analysis (zymography) after electrophoresis of conditioned media of osteoblastic cell culture. $IL-1{\beta}$ increased the collagenase activity in ROS17/2.8 and HOS cell culture. $TNF-{\alpha}$ also increased the collagenase activity of osteoblastic cells. When two kinds of cytokines were treated simultaneously in the culture of osteoblastic cells, synergistic increase of collagenase activity was seen in ROS17/2.8 cells. $IL-1{\beta}$ and $TNF-{\alpha}$ significantly increased the collagenase activity after 6 hour treatment in the osteoblastic cell culture, and there was no additional increase according to the culture period. Osteoblastic cells released the gelatinase and molecular weight of this enzyme was measured about 70 KDa as assessed by zymogram. $IL-1{\beta}$ and $TNF-{\alpha}$ showed increase of the gelatinase activity produced by ROS17/2.8 and HOS cells. Taken together, this study suggested that $IL-1{\beta}$ and $TNF-{\alpha}$ can modulate bone metabolism, at least in part, by increased release of collagenase and gelatinase from osteoblasts.

  • Let K be a algebraically closed field of characteristic 0 and G be abelian group $Z_2{\times}Z_2{\times}Z_2$ or $Z_2{\times}Z_4$. We find the conditions which the elements of the group ring KG are unit and idempotent respecting using the basic table matrix of G. We can see that if ${\alpha}={\sum}r(g)g$ is an idempotent element of KG, then $r(1)=0,\;\frac{1}{{\mid}G{\mid}},\;\frac{2}{{\mid}G{\mid}},\;{\cdots},\frac{{\mid}G{\mid}-1}{{\mid}G{\mid}},\;1$.

Matrix Metalloproteinases, New Insights into the Understanding of Neurodegenerative Disorders

  • Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a subfamily of zinc-dependent proteases that are re-sponsible for degradation and remodeling of extracellular matrix proteins. The activity of MMPs is tightly regulated at several levels including cleavage of prodomain, allosteric activation, com-partmentalization and complex formation with tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases (TIMPs). In the central nervous system (CNS), MMPs play a wide variety of roles ranging from brain devel-opment, synaptic plasticity and repair after injury to the pathogenesis of various brain disorders. Following general discussion on the domain structure and the regulation of activity of MMPs, we emphasize their implication in various brain disorder conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, ischemia/reperfusion and Parkinson's disease. We further highlight accumu-lating evidence that MMPs might be the culprit in Parkinson's disease (PD). Among them, MMP-3 appears to be involved in a range of pathogenesis processes in PD including neuroinflamma-tion, apoptosis and degradation of ${\alpha}$-synuclein and DJ-1. MMP inhibitors could represent poten-tial novel therapeutic strategies for treatments of neurodegenerative diseases.

2.22-inch qVGA ${\alpha}$-Si TFT-LCD Using a 2.5 um Fine-Patterning Technology by Wet Etch Process

  • 2.22-inch qVGA $(240{\times}320)$ amorphous silicon thin film transistor liquid active matrix crystal display (${\alpha}$- Si TFT-AMLCD) panel has been successfully demonstrated employing a 2.5 um fine-patterning technology by a wet etch process. Higher resolution 2.22-inch qVGA LCD panel with an aperture ratio of 58% can be fabricated because the 2.5 um fine pattern formation technique is combined with high thermal photo-resist (PR) development. In addition, a novel concept of unique ${\alpha}$-Si TFT process architecture, which is advantageous in terms of reliability, was proposed in the fabrication of 2.22-inch qVGA LCD panel. Overall results show that the 2.5 um finepatterning is a considerably significant technology to obtain higher aperture ratio for higher resolution ${\alpha}$-Si TFT-LCD panel realization.

3차원적 타원 형태의 충전제를 함유하는 복합체의 열팽창 계수 연구 (Study on the Coefficient of Thermal Expansion for Composites Containing 3-Dimensional Ellipsoidal Inclusions)

  • 3차원적 타원체 형태 ($a_1>a_2>a_3$)를 사용하여, 2가지의 종횡비 (1차 종횡비 $\rho_{\alpha}$와 2차 종횡비 $\rho_{\beta}$)를 갖는 배열된 3차원 형태의 충전제를 포함하는 복합체의 열팽창 변화를 이론적으로 예측하는 모델을 연구하였다. Eshelby의 등가 텐서를 이용하여 배열된 타원형 충전제를 기지재의 이론에 의해 열팽창 계수를 예측할 수 있었다. 종단방향 열팽창 계수 ${\alpha}_{11}$는 두 가지 종횡비 모두 증가하면, 감소하여 충전제의 열팽창에 접근한다. 수직방향 열팽창 계수 ${\alpha}_{33}$는 충전제 함유량에 따라 초기에는 증가하여 최대값을 갖는 경향을 보인다. 1차 종횡비 $\rho_{\alpha}$가 증가하면, 횡단방향 열팽창 계수는 감소하나, 2차 종횡비 $\rho_{\beta}$가 증가하면, 같이 증가한다. 또한, 수직방향 열팽창 계수 ${\alpha}_{33}$$\rho_{\alpha}$가 증가하면 증가하나, $\rho_{\beta}$가 증가하면, ${\alpha}_{33}$는 반대로 감소한다.

  • 조사후핵연료의 연소도측정에 1-octanesulfonate 를 양이온 교환체로 사용하고 $\alpha$-hydroxyisobutyric acid를 용리액으로 사용하는 동적계의 이온크로마토그래피를 적용하였다 Pu, U 및 Nd의 최적 분리조건을 찾기위해 분리조건들을 변화하였다. 이들 원소들을 $\alpha$-hydroxyisobutyric acid 용리액을 0.05 M과 0.40 M을 혼합시키는 기울기용리법으로 개별 분리한후 분취하여 동위원소희석 질량분석법으로 각각 정량하였다. 본 방법에 의래 구한 연소도 값을 기존의 음이온교환수지법에 의한 값과 비교한 결과 3.5 %차이 이내에서 두 값이 서로 일치하였다.

  • 불균형 자료 분석에 대해서는 일찍이 Brown(1932)과 Yates(1934)의 연구 이에 Finney(1948), Stevens(1948), Henderson(1953), Kramer(1955)등 많은 사람들이 관심을 가지고 연구하였고 Searle(1971, 1977, 1981)은 R(v) 표기법으로 모형식의 상수적합에 의한 변동을 나타내었으며 Hocking과 Speed(1975), Speed와 Hocking (1976)이 사용한 제한들을 $\Sigma$ -, W-, O-restrictions라고 하였다. 또한 Speed등(1978)은 비가중평균법(method of unweighted means), 평균의 가중제곱법(method of weighted squares of means), 상수적합법 (method of fitting constants), Overall- Spiegel법, Henderson방법 등을 비교설명하고 Burdick 등(1974)은 각 변동을 기하학적으로 해석하려 하였다. 백(1987a,1987b)은 SAS 팩키지에 의한 변동을 설명하였고 장(1988)도 Searle(1977, 1981)의 방법을 이용하여 가설검정과 변동을 검토한바 있다. 본 연구에서는 여러 가지 모형에 대하여 $n_{ij} > 0, 또는 n_{ij} \geq 0$ 인 경우에 변동계산과 W-, $\Sigma$-, O- 제한 조건하에서의 변동과 가설을 재조명해 보고져 한다.

측방 유입수량 고려한 자연하도의 Muskingum 홍수추적 (A Channel Flood Routing by Muskingum Method Incorporating Lateral Inflows.)

  • 측방유입수가 고려되는 3변수 Muskingum하도추적모형을 낙동강수계중 왜관에서 적포교구간의 12개 홍수사상에 대하여 적용하였고, 기존방법인 2변수 Muskingum방법의 저류상수 K와 가중계수 x에 추가된 $\alpha$는 측방유입수를 고려해주는 변수이다. 3변수모형의 추적방정식은 유한차분 방정식으로 표현되며, 추적상수 결정은 Matrix Inversion에 의하여 직접 계산가능하며, 이로부터 각홍수사상의 K x $\alpha$값을 구할수 있다. 본 연구를 실유역에 적용하여 실측치와 비교하여본 결과 비교적 잘 맞음을 알 수 있었으며, K와 x값은 하도특성인자로서 홍수규모와 관계되고 측방유입인자 $\alpha$는 항특성에 의하여 지배되는 변수로 측방유입량이 클수록 값이 커지는 성향으로 나타났다.
