  • In this study, the scattering of ultrasound by blood is theoretically studied. At first, the Chernow equation which represents acoustic propagation inside the region of inhomogenieties is modified to be fitted for blood. Then, scattering amplitude and scattering Cross-section at the far-field region are obtained from this equation. In this case, hemotocrit is assumed to be less than 26 per cent, and the red blood cell is modeled as independent scatterer. This study also develops a practical approximation for the backscattering of periodic sinewave bursts by a volume of randomly distributed scatterers, i.e., whole red blood cells. This expression for the received backscattering ultrasound pressure after the n-th burst of narrowband transducer is obtained from an ideal continuous wave transducer's response.

  • In this paper, we discuss a continuous self-map of an interval and the existence of an uncountable strongly chaotic set. It is proved that if a continuous self-map of an interval has positive topological entropy, then it has an uncountable strongly chaotic set in which each point is recurrent, but is not almost periodic.

  • There are many weld defects such as surface crack, lack of fusion, and incomplete penetration(IP) in the butt joint weld of the existing steel bridges. The crack-like defects may significantly reduce the life of the structure. This paper presents the procedure and the results of the fatigue life assessment of the butt joints with weld defects in the existing steel girder bridge. The butt joint welds with incomplete penetration were instrumented with strain gages to determine the stress histogram under normal traffic. Based on the measured stress histogram the crack propagation analysis were performed for the fatigue life assessment. By using the suggested procedure and methodology, one can decide the time of periodic inspection and the necessity of repair of the butt joint welds with serious weld defects in the existing steel bridge. • After anchoring 3-(2-aminoethylamino)propyltriethoxysilane (APTES) onto the surfaces of the channels within ordered mesoporous silica, SBA-15, we dispersed $Cu^{2+}$-perfluorophthalocyanine into the modified SBA-15 channels. From small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) patterns and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images, we confirmed that both the calcined and $Cu^{2+}$-perfluorophthalocyanine-incorporated SBA-15 samples possessed ordered periodic structures and hexagonal symmetry lattices (p6mm). The value of the $d_{100}$ spacing was decreased after the incorporation of $Cu^{2+}$-perfluorophthalocyanine into the modified SBA-15 channels. We used FTIR and UV-Vis spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) to characterize both the modified SBA-15 and the $Cu^{2+}$-perfluorophthalocyanine-incorporated SBA-15 samples. From scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images and $N_2$ sorption measurements, we found that the $Cu^{2+}$-perfluorophthalocyanine units were incorporated within the modified SBA-15 channels, rather than on the external surfaces of the modified SBA-15 channels.

  • Today, it is necessary to calculate orbits with high accuracy in space flight. The key words of Poincar$\acute{e}$ in celestial mechanics are periodic solutions, invariant integrals, asymptotic solutions, characteristic exponents and the non existence of new single-valued integrals. Poincar$\acute{e}$ define an invariant integral of the system as the form which maintains a constant value at all time $t$, where the integration is taken over the arc of a curve and $Y_i$ are some functions of $x$, and extend 2 dimension and 3 dimension. Eigenvalues are classified as the form of trajectories, as corresponding to nodes, foci, saddle points and center. In periodic solutions, the stability of periodic solutions is dependent on the properties of their characteristic exponents. Poincar$\acute{e}$ called bifurcation that is the possibility of existence of chaotic orbit in planetary motion. Existence of near exceptional trajectories as Hadamard's accounts, says that there are probabilistic orbits. In this context we study the eigenvalue problem in early 20th century in three body problem by analyzing the works of Darwin, Bruns, Gyld$\acute{e}$n, Sundman, Hill, Lyapunov, Birkhoff, Painlev$\acute{e}$ and Hadamard.

  • File I/O buffer cache plays an important role in narrowing the wide speed gap between the main memory and the secondary storage. However, data loss or inconsistencies may occur if the system crashes before the data that has been updated in the buffer cache is flushed to storage. Thus, most operating systems adopt a daemon that periodically flushes dirty data to the secondary storage. In this study, we show that periodic flushes account for 30-70% of the total write traffic to storage and remove this inefficiency by implementing a small, non-volatile buffer cache. Specifically, we present space-efficient management techniques, such as delta-write and fragment-grouping, and show that the storage write traffic and throughput can be improved by a margin of 44.2% and 23.6%, respectively, with only a small NVRAM.

  • This paper describes the design and analysis of vibration driven cylindric electromagnetic energy harvester. The proposed harvester consists with spring, coil and rear earth magnet. The design utilizes an electromagnetic transducer and its operating principle is based on the relative movement of a magnet pole with respect to a coil. In order to optimal design and analysis, ANSYS FEA (Finite Elements Analysis) and Matlab model were used to predict the magnetic filed density with vibration and the generated maximum output power with load resistance. The system was designed for 6 Hz of natural frequency and spring constant was 39.48 N/m between 2 mm and 6 mm of displacement in moving magnet. When moving magnet of system was oscillated, each model was obtained that induced voltage in the coil was generated 2.275 Vpp, 2.334 Vpp and 2.384 Vpp, respectively. Then maximum output powers of system at load resistance ($1303{\Omega}$) were generated $124.2{\sim}132.2\;{\mu}W$ during magnets input displacement of 3 mm and 6 Hz periodic oscillation.

  • The design and synthesis of protein-like polymers is a fundamental challenge in materials science. A biomimetic approach is to explore the impact of monomer sequence on non-natural polymer structure and function. We present the aqueous self-assembly of two peptoid polymers into extremely thin two-dimensional (2D) crystalline sheets directed by periodic amphiphilicity, electrostatic recognition and aromatic interactions. Peptoids are sequence-specific, oligo-N-substituted glycine polymers designed to mimic the structure and functionality of proteins. Mixing a 1:1 ratio of two oppositely charged peptoid 36 mers of a specific sequence in aqueous solution results in the formation of giant, free-floating sheets with only 2.7 nm thickness. Direct visualization of aligned individual peptoid chains in the sheet structure was achieved using aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopy. Specific binding of a protein to ligand-functionalized sheets was also demonstrated. The synthetic flexibility and biocompatibility of peptoids provide a flexible and robust platform for integrating functionality into defined 2D nanostructures. In the later part of my talk, we describe the use of metal ions to construct two-dimensional hybrid films that have the ability to self-heal. Incubation of biomimetic peptoid polymers with specific divalent metal ions results in the spontaneous formation of uniform multilayers at the air-water interface. We anticipate that ease of synthesis and transfer of these two-dimensional materials may have many potential applications in catalysis, gas storage and sensing, optics, nanomaterial synthesis, and environmentally responsive scaffolds.

  • The expediency of replacing cost prohibitive and often inaccessible traditional protein supplements prompted the monitoring of hematological parameters was carried out in female goats at 0, 30, 60 and 90 days post feeding. Rumen environment was (3), respectively fed supplements containing either a leaf meal mixture (LMTM) of Leucaena leucocephala-Morus alba-Tectona grandis (2:1:1) or traditional protein supplements groundnut cake (GNC) or soybean meal (SBM) and wheat straw as basal diet. The periodic monitoring of hematological parameters was carried out in female goats at 0, 30, 60 and 90 days post feeding. Rumen environment was studied in bucks in a $3{\times}3$ switch over design. Rumen liquor was collected at 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 h post feeding after 4 weeks of feeding. The goats fed on LMTM or GNC had similar dry matter intake (g/kg $W^{0.75}$), which was significantly (p<0.05) higher than SBM. Except for packed cell volume (PCV), none of the blood biochemical constituents (Hemoglobin, serum glucose, total protein, serum albumin (A) and globulin(G), A:G ratio, alkaline phosphatase, transaminases) varied significantly due to replacement of 50% dietary protein by LMTM throughout the experiment. GNC group had significantly higher level of PCV than other treatments. However, the level of serum total protein (p<0.01) tended to increase from 60th day onwards irrespective of dietary treatments. The average rumen pH was significantly higher (p<0.001) on SBM followed by LMTM and GNC, respectively. Total volatile fatty acid (TVFA) production was comparable in goats given LMTM or GNC supplements, the corresponding values were significantly different (p<0.001) when compared with SBM. The ammonical-N, total-N and TCA-precipitable-N (mg/100 ml SRL) did not differ significantly among dietary treatments. It may be concluded that supplementing wheat straw with LMTM based concentrate had no adverse effect on voluntary intake, blood biochemical profile and rumen fermentation pattern of the goats.

  • The seawater lift pump system is responsible for maintaining the open canal level to provide the suction flow of circulating water pump at the set point. The objective of this paper is to design a 2-stage mixed flow pump(for seawater lifting) by inverse design and to evaluate the overall performance and the local flow fields of the pump by using a commercial CFD code. Rotating speed of the impeller is 1,750 rpm with the flow rate of 2,700 $m^3/h$. Finite volume method with structured mesh and Realizable ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model is used to guaranty more accurate prediction of turbulent flow in the pump impeller. The numerical results such as static head brake horse power and efficiency of the mixed flow pump are compared with the reference data. Also, the periodic condition calculation method for the mixed flow pump was carried out in order to investigate the pump performance characteristics with the modification of impeller geometry.
