Design of Low-Pass Type Inverter: UWB Band-Pass Filter with Low Spurious Characteristics

  • In this paper, we present the design method for a low-pass type inverter, which can effectively suppress the spurious response associated with band-pass filters. The inverter has a length of ${\lambda}/4$ and employs not only a stepped-impedance configuration but also asymmetrical and bending structures in order to improve frequency selectivity and compactness. The inverter is applied as an impedance/admittance inverter to the ultra-wideband (UWB) band-pass filter. The UWB band-pass filter configuration is based on a stub band-pass filter consisting of quarter-wavelength impedance inverters and shunt short-circuited stubs ${\lambda}/4$ in length. The asymmetrical stepped-impedance low-pass type inverter improves not only the spurious responses, but also the return loss characteristics associated with a UWB band-pass filter, while a compact size is maintained. The UWB band-pass filter using the proposed inverters is fabricated and tested. The measured results show excellent attenuation characteristics at out-band frequencies, which exceed 18 dB up to 39 GHz. The insertion loss within the pass-band (from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz) is below 1.7 dB, the return loss is below 10 dB, and the group delay is below 1 ns.

  • In this paper, pure $I_{ph}$ and hybrid carbon nanotube reinforced $I_{ph}$ were sintered using the SPS(spark plasma sintering) method for high densification. A nanosecond laser (${\lambda}=1063nm$, ${\tau}P=10ns$) and a femtosecond laser (${\lambda}=1027nm$, ${\tau}P=380fs$) were installed on an optical system for the micromachining test. The ablation characteristics of the pure $I_{ph}$ and CNT/$I_{ph}$ composites, such as thermal effect and ablation depth, were investigated using FE-SEM and a confocal microscope device. Laser machining results for the two mating materials showed improved performances: CNT/$I_{ph}$ composites showed good surface morphology of hole drilling without a melting zone due to the composites' high thermal properties; also, the ablated depth of CNT/$I_{ph}$ was higher than that of pure $I_{ph}$.

  • In this paper, an embedded Kalman filter for a time-delayed controller is designed on an FPGA to estimate accelerations of the robot arm. When the time-delayed controller is used as a controller, the inertia estimation along with accelerations is needed to form the control law. Although the time-delayed controller is known to be robust to cancel out uncertainties in the nonlinear systems, performances are very much dependent upon estimating the acceleration term ${\ddot{q}}(t-{\lambda})$ along with inertia estimation ${\hat{D}}(t-{\lambda})$. Estimating accelerations using the finite difference method is quite simple, but the accuracy of estimation is poor specially when the robot moves slowly. To estimate accelerations more accurately, various filters such as the least square fit filter and the Kalman filter are introduced and implemented on an FPGA chip. Experimental studies of following the desired trajectory are conducted to show the performance of the controller. Performances of different filters are investigated experimentally and compared.

  • This study proposes ZnO thin film as a piezoelectric material for SAW (surface acoustic wave) filter. The ZnO thin film with thickness $2.6{\mu}m$ was deposited (0001)-oriented sapphire by RF magnetron sputtering technique. IDTs (inter-digital transducers) electrodes were patterned upon SAW filter mask with solid finger structure unapodized using lift-off method on ZnO piezoelectric thin film. SAW propagation velocity was measured with the center frequency by HP 8753C network analyzer. A fabricated ZnO SAW filter exhibited a high propagation velocity of 5433 $^m/s$ and relatively insertion loss of -53.391dB at $\lambda=80{\mu}m$. The side-lobe attenuation of the center frequency was about 17dB. When the wavelength was $80{\mu}m$ $(\lambda/4=20{\mu}m)$, the center frequency was 67.907 MHz. $k^2$ (electromechanical coupling coefficient) was 15.84 %.

  • Photochromic lens의 광감성 평가 방법을 만들고, 이를 적용시키기 위하여 Photochromic lens에 UV light source을 조사하였다. UV light 광원을 조사 전과 후의 darkening과 fading 상태의 transmittance(T%)의 파장 의존성을 spectrophotometer, light source, power meter, detecter로 구성된 광학적 장치로 측정한다. 조사 직전의 최대 $T%{\times}{\lambda}$ 면적과 saturated state면적의 상대적 비율을 이용한다. Photochromic lens에서 조사시간 의존성의 평가는 darkening 효율도 ($K_d$)값 ($(1-C_1/A_1)/t_{on}$과 fading 효율도($K_f$)값 ($(C_2/A_2)/t_{on}$을 도입하였다. Darkening과 fading 상태에서 transmittance(T%)의 파장의존성은 $T_m+T_1{\exp}[-(x_0-t)/a]$의 형태를 갖는다. Photochromic lens에서 광감성의 평가 parameter Z, $K_d$, $K_f$를 적용한 결과 각 평가 지수 값을 얻을 수 있다.

  • 본 논문(論文)에서는 경위도(經緯度) 좌표(座標)(${\varphi}$, ${\lambda}$)에 의해 측지망(測地網)을 동시조정(同時調整)하는 컴퓨터 프로그램을 작성하고, 1점(點) 1방향(方向) 고정(固定)인 경우와 자유망(自由網)조정의 두 경우를 검토하였다. 구성과(舊成果)를 초기치(初期値)로 이용하고 Hubeny 에 의해 확장된 Gauss 의 평균위도식(平均緯度式)을 사용하였으며, 좌표조정법(座標調整法)에 의해 조정계산(調整計算)을 실시하였다. 기준타원체(基準楕圓體)로는 Bessel 치를 사용하고, 관측(觀測)에 대한 중량(重量)을 1로 가정하였다. 우리 나라 일부지역의 실측(實測)데이타를 적용한 결과 평균위치오차(平均位置誤差)가 1점 1방향 고정의 경우 6.2cm, 자유망(自由網)의 경우는 2.4cm로 나타났다. 적용된 삼변망(三邊網)의 단위중량(單位重量)에 대한 표준오차(標準誤差)는 $1.66{\times}10^{-6}$ 라디안 (0.3")이고, 오차타원(誤差楕圓)을 분석한 결과 자유망(自由網)이 오차분배면에서 효과적임을 보여 주고 있다.

Smoothing Parameter Selection Using Multifold Cross-Validation in Smoothing Spline Regressions

  • The smoothing parameter $\lambda$ in smoothing spline regression is usually selected by minimizing cross-validation (CV) or generalized cross-validation (GCV). But, simple CV or GCV is poor candidate for estimating prediction error. We defined MGCV (Multifold Generalized Cross-validation) as a criterion for selecting smoothing parameter in smoothing spline regression. This is a version of cross-validation using $leave-\kappa-out$ method. Some numerical results comparing MGCV and GCV are done.

  • We present and study the stability and convergence of a deflation-preconditioned conjugate gradient(PCG) scheme for the interior generalized eigenvalue problem $Ax = {\lambda}Bx$, where A and B are large sparse symmetric positive definite matrices. Numerical experiments are also presented to support our theoretical results.

  • 본 연구에서는 트롤그물의 유수저항 특성 및 그 저항을 그물의 구조, 규격 등으로 정도 높게 표현해내는 방법을 얻어내는 것을 목약으로 하여, 벽 면적이 $S(m^2)$되는 트롤그물이 유속 $\nu\;(m/sec)$에서 받는 유수저항 R(kg)을 $R=kSv^2$으로 표시하고, 지금까지 행해진 저항실험 결과들을 수집하여 윗 식의 형태로 정리하였으며, 저항계수 $k(kg{\cdot}sec^2/m^4)$를 전보 에서 구한 저항식에 의해 해석하였다. 그 결과, k는 그물 입구의 단면 을 $S_m\;(m^2)$, 흐름에 수직인 평면에 대한 그물의 총 투영면적을 $S_n\;(m^2)$, 그물감의 대표치수를 $\lambda$($={\pi}d^2/2lsin2\varphi;\;d$ : 그물실의 지름, 2l : 그물코의 크기, $2\varphi$ 그물코의 전개각)라 할때, 저층 트롤과 중층 트롤에서 각각 $$k=4.5(\frac{S_n}{S_m})^{1.2}v^{-0.2}$$ in case of bottom trawl nets and as $$k=5.1\lambda^{-0.1}(\frac{S_n}{S_m})^{1.2}v^{-0.2}$$$$k=5.1\lambda^{-0.1}(\frac{S_n}{S_m})^{1.2}v^{-0.2}$$ 으로 표시할 수 있었고, 이들에서 $S_n/S_m$의 값은 각각의 그물과 벽 면적이 같은 원추형 자루그물로부터 구해도 된다는 것을 알 수 있었으며, 설계 방식이 일반화 되어 있는 그물들의 경우는 유수저항 R(kg)을 저층 트롤과 중층 트롤에서 각각 $$R=1.5\;S\;v^{1.8}$$$$R=0.7\;S\;v^{1.8}$$으로 표시해도 좋다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

  • The operation and management of a plant require proper accounting for the constraints coming from reliability requirements as well as from budget and resource considerations. Most of the mathematical methods to decide the inspection time interval for plant maintenance by reliability theory are too complicated to be solved. Moreover, the mathematical and theoretical models are not usually cases in the practical applications. In order to overcome these problems, we propose a new the decision-making method of optimal inspection interval to minimize the maintenance cost by reliability theory and genetic algorithm (GA). The most merit of the proposed method is to decide the inspection interval for a plant machine of which failure rate $\lambda$(t) conforms to any probability distribution. Therefore, this method is more practical. The efficiency of the proposed method is verified by comparing the results obtained by GA-based method with the inspection model haying regular time interval.
