Recent research indicates that the n-3 fatty acid , docosahexaenoic acid(22 : 6n 3, DHA) plays an essential role in infant brain development . DHA is highly concentrated in brain and retinal tissues and accumulates during late fetal and early neonatal life. Diets deficient in DHA are associated with reduced levels of DHA in brain and retinal tissues. The purpose of this study is to investigate the long term effects of DHA supplementation on the growth and mental development of full-term infants. THirty four healty infants were recruited from those who were delivered at Kyung Hee Medical Center. The experimental groups were the breast milk+DHA(-) group who were fed human milk for 20 weeks after birth and thereafter were fed placebo formula for 28 weeks, the breast milk+DHA(+) group who were fed human milk for 20 weeks after birth and thereafter were fed DHA supplemented formula for 28 weeks, DHA(-) group who were fed placebo formula for 48 weeks, and DHA(+) group who were fed DHA supplemented formula for 48 weeks. The daily average intake of DHA for the breast milk+DHA(-) , breast milk+DHA(+), DHA(-) and DHA(+) groups were 39.1mg, 89.9mg, 17.7mg, and 160.224mg, respectively. The results showed that measurements of infant weight, length, head, and chest circumferncewere all in normal range and they were not influenced by the DHA supplements in their diets. There was a significant correlation between dietary DHA intake and erythrocyte DHA level. The results of flash visual evoke potential (VEP) test were not correlated with eerythrocyte DHA and dietary DHA levels at 48 weeks of age. No differences were found in Bayley mental and Psychomotor Development lndex scores among the four experimental groups at 48 weeks of age. Unlike the short-term effects there was no long-term effect of relatively small amounts of dietary DHA supplements on the scores for flash VEP and Bayley test, even thour호 there was an elevated DHA supplements on the scores for flash VEP and Bayley test, even through there was an elevated DHA content in the infants erythrocytes.

Indium-Tin Oxide (ITO) films were prepared on the commercial glass substrate by the Magnetron Sputtering method. The target was a 90wt.% $In_2O_3$-10wt.% $SnO_2$with 99.99% purity. The ITO films deposited by changing the partial pressure of oxygen gas ($O_2$/(Ar+$O_2$)) of 2, 3 and 5% as well as by changing the substrate temperature of $300^{\circ}C$ or $500^{\circ}C$. The influence of substrate pre-annealing and pre-cleaning on the quality of ITO film were examined, in which the substrate temperature was $500^{\circ}C$ and oxygen partial pressure was 3%. The characteristics of films were examined by the 4-point probe, Hall effect measurement system, SEM, AFM, Spectrophotometer, and X-ray diffraction. The optimum ITO films have been obtained when the substrate temperature is $500^{\circ}C$ and oxygen partial pressure is 3%. At optimum condition, the film showed transmittance of 81%, sheet resistivity of $226\Omegatextrm{cm}^2$, resistivity($\rho$) of $5.4\times10^{-3}\Omega$cm, carrier concentration of $1.0\times10^{19}cm^{-3}$, and carrier mobility of $150textrm{cm}^2$Vsec. From XRD spectrum, c(222) plane was dominant in the case of substrate temperature at $300^{\circ}C$, without regarding to oxygen partial pressure. However, in the case of substrate temperature at $500^{\circ}C$, c(400) plane was grown together with c(222) plane, only for oxygen partial pressure of 2 and 3%. In both case of chemical and ultrasonic cleaning without pre-annealing the substrate, it showed much almost same sheet resistivity, resistivity($\rho$), transmittance, carrier concentration, and carrier mobility. In case of $500^{\circ}C$/60min pre-annealing before ITO film deposited, both transimittance and carrier mobility are better than no pre-annealing, because pre-annealing is supposed to remove alkari ions diffusion from substrate. ITO film deposited on the Corning 0080 sybstrate showed a little bit better sheet resistivity, resistivity($\rho$), transimittance, carrier concentration than the film deposited on commercial glass. But no differences between Corning substrate and pre-annealed commercial glass substrate are found.
This study was conducted to investigate the developmental ability of caprine embryos after somatic cell interspecies nuclear transfer. Donor cells were obtained from an ear-skin biopsy of a caprine, digested with 0.25% trypsin-EDTA in PBS, and primary fibroblast cultures were established in TCM-199 with 10% FBS. After maturation, expanded cumulus cells were removed by vigorous pipetting in the presence of 0.3% hyaluronidase. The matured oocytes were dipped in D-PBS plus 10% FBS+7.5 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml cytochalasin B and 0.05 M sucrose. The reconstructed oocytes were electrically fused with donor cells in 0.3 M mannitol fusion medium. After the electofusion, embryos were activated by electric stimulation. Interspecies nuclear transfer embryos with bovine cytoplasts were cultured in TCM-199 medium supplemented with 10% FBS including bovine oviduct epithelial cells for 7∼9 day. On the other hand, the NT embryos with porcine cytoplasts were cultured in NCSU-23 medium supplemented with 10% FBS for 6∼8 day at $39^{\circ}C, 5% CO_2$ in air. In caprine-bovine NT embryos, the cleavage(2-cell) rate was 36.8% in confluence and 43.8% in serum starvation. The developmental rate of morula- and blastocyst-stage embryos was 0.0% in confluence and 18.8% in serum starvation. In caprine-porcine NT embryos, the cleavage(2-cell) rate was 76.7% in confluence and 66.7% in serum starvation. The developmental rate of morula and blastocyst stage embryos was 3.3% in confluence and 3.0% in serum starvation, and no significant difference was observed in synchronization treatment between donor cells. In caprine-bovine NT embryos, the cleavage(2-cell) rate of cultured donor cells was 30.8% and 17.6% in 5∼9 and 10∼14 passage(P<0.05). The developmental rate of morula and blastocyst stage embryos were significantly higher(P<0.05) in 5∼9 passage(23.1%) than in 10∼14 passage(0.0%) of cultured donor cells. In caprine-porcine NT embryos, the cleavage rate was significantly higher(P<0.05) in 5∼9 passage(86.7%) than in 10∼14 passage(50.0%) of cultured donor cells. The developmental rate of morula and blastocyst stage embryos were 3.3 and 0.0% in 5∼9 and 10∼14와 passage of cultured donor cells. In caprine-bovine NT embryos, the developmental rate of morula and blastocyst stage embryos were 22.6% in interspecies nuclear transfer, 33.9% in in vitro fertilization and 28.1% in parthenotes, which was no significant differed. The developmental rate of morula and blastocyst stage embryos with caprine-porcine NT embryos were lower(P<0.05) in interspecies nuclear transfer(5.1%) than in vitro fertiltzation(26.9%) and parthenotes(37.4%).

An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) was developed for the detection of residual gentamicin(GM) in edible animal products. The immunogen(GM-KLH conjugate) and coating antigen(GM-BSA conjugate) were prepared by coupling GM sulfate to keyhole limpet hemocyanin(KLH) and bovine serum albumin(BSA) in the presence of 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)carbodiimide hydrochloride, respectively. Polyclonal antibody to GM was produced in rabbits(New Zealand White, female) by using the immunogen and the antibody titer was measured by indirect ELISA. A competitive ELISA was developed using GM-bovine serum albumin conjugate as a coating antigen, GM(as standards or sample), polyclonal antibody to GM, secondary antibody conjugated with horseradish peroxidase as an enzyme, and H2O2 and o-phenylenediamine dihydrochloride as a substrate and a chromophore, respectively. The detection limit of GM was 10 ng/ml and the standard curve of GM(n=26) was linear up to 10 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml in this competitive ELISA system. There were no cross-reactivities of the partially purified antibody between GM and the various antibiotice such as amikacin, benzyl-penicillin, chloramphenicol, erythromycin, furazlidone, kanamycin, neomycin, oleandomycin, streptomycin, sulfathiazole and thiamphenicol(CR50<0.05%)
From Zr(O-nC3H7)4-H2O-C2H5OH-HNO3 starting solutions, MgO-doped stabilized zirconia fibers with varying content of MgO (10~18 mol%) from different MgO sources were fabricated by sol-gel method. The MgO sources used are magnesium nitrate hexahydrate, magnesium acetate tetrahydrate, and magnesium ethylate. The phase transformation studies of a drawn MgO-ZrO2 fiber were carried out using X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. The microstructure, tensile strength, and microporosity of fibers were investigated using SEM, tensile strength test, and microporosimeter. Although various MgO sources such as magnesium nitrate, acetate, and ethylate were used, the crystallization behavior of MgO-ZrO2 fibers at different temperatures could be summarized as follows: CubiclongrightarrowMetastable TetragonallongrightarrowMonocliniclongrightarrowCoexistence of Monoclinic and CubiclongrightarrowCubic(trace of monoclinic). At 150$0^{\circ}C$, the phase transformation of MgO-ZrO2 fibers shows the following change depending on the amount of MgO[Mg(NO3)2.6H2O]: At 10 mol%, both monoclinic and cubic phase coexist, at 12 mol%, monoclinic phase decreases rapidly, and then at 14 mol%, only cubic phase remains. When the MgO-ZrO2 fibers containing 12 mol% magnesium nitrate were heated at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 1hr, average tensile strength of fibers is 4.0 GPa at diameters of 20 to 30 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. As the heat-treatment temperatures increase to 100$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr, tensile strength of MgO-ZrO2 fibers decreases rapidly to 0.7 GPa.
Reactively sputtered $Pb(Zr,Ti)O_3$(PZT) films on $IrO_2$and Ir were evaluated with particular consideration on interface properties. The $IrO_2$and Ir were previously annealed at $650^{\circ}C$ in $O_2$or $N_2$atmosphere, respectively. There was no appreciable roughening in the interface of the $PZT/IrO_2$respective to that of the PZT/Ir; the rms roughness of $IrO_2$and Ir was about 3nm and 10nm, respectively. The ferroelectric properties of the $PZT/IrO_2$were found to be better than that of the PZT/Ir; however, the leakage current of the $PZT/IrO_2$was slightly larger than that of the PZT/Ir. The $PZT/IrO_2$thin films did not exhibit any fatigue up to $10^{11}$ cycles; the $P^*\;_r-P^r$ value decreased only from 16.6 to 14$\mu$C/$\textrm{cm}^2$ until $10^{12}$ polarization reversals. On the other hand, although thin $IrO_2$layer was formed between PZT and Ir, the PZT/Ir thin films began to undergo fatigue after $10^9$ polarization reversals.
We examined to develop the enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for determination of zearalenone in animal feeds. Zearalenone was first converted to 6'-(carboxymethyl) zearalenone oxime(zearalenone oxime) to get a coupling site and then conjugated to bovine serum albumin(BSA) for use as immunogen and to horseradish peroxidase(HRP) for use as enzyme marker. Antibody against zearalenone was obtained after 11 weeks of immunization of rabbit with zearalenone oxime-BSA. Cross reactivity of the antibody with ${\alpha}-zearalanol,\;{\beta}-zearalenol,\;{\alpha}-zearalanol\;and\;{\beta}-zearalanol$ were 168, 46, 26 and 20% respectiviely. A simple procedure was devised for the screening of zearalenone in feeds using ELISA. Feeds samples(5g) were extracted by blending with 25 ml of methanol-phospate butTered saline-dimethylformate(70 : 29 : 1) and the extract was filtered and aqueous filterate analyzed. It took only 1 hours to do whole procedure for the analysis of zearalenone in feeds by the direct competitive ELISA, and detectable limit was 1-100 ppb. Using this procedure, only 4 of 24 feed samples showed positive results with 3.93-7.43 ppb levels.
The ferroelectric SBT films were deposited on Pt/Ti/SiO$_2$/Si substrates by liquid injection metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) with single-mixture solution of Sr[Ta(OEt)$_5$(dmae)]$_2$and Bi(C$_6$ 6/H$_5$)$_3$. The Sr/Ta and Bi/Ta ratio in SBT films depended on deposition temperature and mol ratio of precursor in the single-mixture solution. At the substrate temperature of 40$0^{\circ}C$, Sr/Ta and Bi/Ta ratio were close to 0.4 and 1 at precursor mol ratio of 0.5~1.0, respectively. As-deposited film was amorphous. However, after annealing at 75$0^{\circ}C$ for 30 min in oxygen atmosphere, the diffraction patterns indicated polycrystalline SBT phase. The remanent polarization (Pr) and coercive field (Ec) of SBT film annealed at 75$0^{\circ}C$ were 4.7$\mu$C/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 115.7kV/cm at an applied voltage of 5V, respectively. The SBT films annealed at 75$0^{\circ}C$ showed practically no polarization fatigue up to 10$^10$ switching cycles.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the etching effects and bond strength of total etching and self-etching adhesive system on unground enamel using scanning electron microscopy and microtensile bond strength test. The buccal coronal unground enamel from human extracted molars were prepared using low-speed diamond saw. Scotchbond Multi-Purpose (group SM). Clearfil SE Bond (group SE), or Adper Prompt L-Pop (group LP) were applied to the prepared teeth. and the blocks of resin composite (Filtek Z250) were built up incrementally. Resin tag formation was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy. after removal of enamel surface by acid dissolution and dehydration. For microtensile bond strength test. resin-bonded teeth were sectioned to give a bonded surface area of $1\textrm{mm}^2$. Microtensile bond strength test was perfomed. The results of this study were as follows. 1. A definite etching pattern was observed in Scotchbond Multi-Purpose group. 2. Self-etching groups were characterized as shallow and irregular etching patterns. 3. The results (mean) of microtensile bond strength were SM: 26.55 MPa, SE: 18.15 MPa, LP: 15.57 MPa. SM had significantly higher microtensile bond strength than 8E and PL (p < 0.05). but there was no significant differance between SE and PL.
