Effect of Ammonium Concentration on the Emission of $N_2O$ Under Oxygen-Limited Autotrophic Wastewater Nitrification

  • A significant amount of nitrous oxide ($N_2O$), which is one of the serious greenhouse gases, is emitted from nitrification and denitrification of wastewater. Batch wastewater nitrifications with enriched nitrifiers were carried out under oxygen-limited condition with synthetic (without organic carbon) and real wastewater (with organic carbon) in order to find out the effect of ammonium concentration on $N_2O$ emission. Cumulated $N_2O$-N emission reached 3.0, 5.7, 6.2, and 13.5 mg from 0.4 l of the synthetic wastewater with 50, 100, 200, and 500 mg/l ${NH_4}^+$-N, respectively, and 1.0 mg from the real wastewater with 125 mg/l ${NH_4}^+$-N. The results indicate that $N_2O$ emission increased with ammonium concentration and the load. The ammonium removal rate and nitrite concentration also increased $N_2O$ emission. Comparative analysis of $N_2O$ emission from synthetic and real wastewaters revealed that wastewater nitrification under oxygen-limited condition emitted more $N_2O$ than that of heterotrophic denitrification. Summarizing the results, it can be concluded that denitrification by autotrophic nitrifiers contributes significantly to the $N_2O$ emission from wastewater nitrification.

가축분 퇴.액비 시용에 따른 암모니아 휘산량 평가 (Evaluation of Ammonia Emission from Arable Soil applied Liquid Manure and Compost)

  • 대기 중으로 휘산 되는 대부분의 암모니아는 농경지에 시용하는 가축분뇨, 퇴비 및 질소비료에서 유래하며, 휘산된 암모니아는 강하 (Deposition)를 통해서 자연생태계의 산성화를 초래하고 수계의 부영양화를 유발하는 원인물질로 작용한다. 본 연구에서는 돈분뇨 및 퇴비 시용방법에 따른 암모니아 휘산량을 정량적으로 평가하였다. 돈분퇴비 표층살포 (SA), 표층살포 후 즉시 경운(IRA), 표층살포 3일후 경운 (RA-3d) 처리구의 13일동안 암모니아 휘산량은 각각, 28.7, 8.7, 24.3 kg N/ha 로 IRA 처리구는 SA 처리구에 비해 약 70% 저감효과를 가져왔다. 돈분 액비 표층 살포 후 즉시 경운은 무경에 비해 봄과 가을 각각 26, 50% 의 암모니아 휘산량 저감 효과가 있었다. 그리고 수분 함량에 따른 암모니아 휘산량은 수분 함량이 높을수록 건조 토양에 비해 증가 하였다. 돈분 액비 시용 전후 담수 조건에 따른 암모니아 휘산량은 담수 상태에서 액비를 시용하는 것이 건토에 액비 살포 1일 후 담수 보다 약 4.7배의 암모니아 휘산량 증가가 있었다.

  • Crystal structure of two inclusion compounds Cd(pn)Ni(CN)4·0.25G (G=toluene and p-xylene, pn=1,2-diaminopropane) have been determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data; toluene clathrate: monoclinic P21/n, a=13.838(6), b=26.893(5), c= 7.543(5) Å, γ=90.92(3)°, Z=4, R=0.0616; p-xylene clathrate: monoclinic P21/n, a=13.895(2), b=26.900(3), c=7.613(1) Å, γ=91.06(1)°, Z=4, R=0.0486. The host structures determined for toluene- and pxylene-guest clathrates are substantially identical to the U-type structures observed for the straight chain aliphatic-guest clathrates. However, the alternating arrangement of occupied channels with the guest molecules and vacant channels appears in the host structure. The non-centrosymmetric toluene molecules are distributed about the inversion center to give an image like p-xylene molecule. The guests, toluene and p-xylene, prefer the U-type channel, favoring the interaction between the π-electrons of the aromatic ring and the pn-amino groups to hold the aromatic ring vertical to the cyanometallate meshes.

Environmental Factors Affecting on Shrimp Cultivation and Bacterial Examination in Shrimp Aquaculture

  • 충남 태안소재 순천향대학교 해양연구소의 해양수산연구소에서 probiotics 개발을 궁극적인 목표로 하여 대하양식장에서 대하의 효율적 생산을 위한 생육환경을 조사하였다. 대하의 생장에 영향을 미치는 용존산소, 수체온도, pH, 염도, $NH_4-N$, $NO_2-N$, $NO_3-N$, 클로로필 a를 포함하는 몇가지 환경요인들을 조사하였다. 수 표본에 용존되어 있는 $NH_4-N$, $NO_2-N$, 그리고 $NO_3-N$의 농도는 각각 0.024-0.034 mg/L, 0.03-0.02, 0.004-0.009 mg/L였다. 클로로필 a는 0.002-0.018 $ug/m^3$ 범위에 있었다. 양식장에서 채취한 수 표본에서 다른 세균들의 분포를 알아보기 위하여 marine agar plates에서 분리 계수하였다. 총세균수는 대략 $6.5\;{\times}\;10^4$까지 증가하였다. BIOLOG 시험들 통하여 13가지의 분리 세균들은 Corynebacterium nirilophilus, Clavibacter agropyri, Sphingomonas adhaesiva, Brevundimonas vesicularis, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Pseudomonas bathycetes, Vibrio tubiashii, Sphingomonas macrogoltabidus, Rhodococcus, rhodochrous, Burkholderia glumae, Corynebacterium urealyticus, Rhodococcus fascians, Psychrobacter immobilis로 각각 동정되었다. 향후 연구는 대하의 효율적인 생산을 위한 정보를 제공하기 위한 병독성이나 환경과 probiotics의 연관성을 규명에 집중 될 것이다.

강변 대수층 매질 시료의 오염물질 지연능 평가 (Evaluation of Contaminant Retardation Capacities of Bank Aquifer Materials)

  • The containment retardation capacities of four different aquifers were evaluated in a preliminary study for development of bank filtration in the Young San river area. $NO_3-N$, $NO_2-N$, $NH_4^+-N$, Fe, Mn, phenol, and chloride were selected as the target contaminants and a nonreactive tracer, respectively. Batch isotherm tests were conducted to measure the partition coefficients of the target contaminants. The mass transport parameters of nonreactive tracer were estimated from column tests. From the results of bath isotherm tests, it was shown that lower stream aquifer materials have greater partition coefficients of $NO_3-N$, $NH_4^+-N$, Mn, and phenol than the upper stream aquifer materials; however, there was no significant position-dependent trend for Fe. All aquifer materials tested have the same range of partition coefficients for $NO_2-N$. Column tests showed that the molecular diffusion of Cl- was much less than the mechanical dispersion; and there was no significant difference between the estimated dispersivities of tested aquifer materials. Consequently, it seems that the difference in the containment retardation capacities between four aquifers tested in this study would primarily result not from hydrodynamic dispersion but from partitioning.

Synthesis and Characterization of Group 13 Compounds of 2-Acetylpyridine Thiosemicarbazone. Single-Crystal Structure of $(iC_4H_9)-2Al(NC_5H_4C(CH_3)$NNC(S)NHPh)

  • Novel mononuclear group 13 metal complexes with the formula (R2M){NC5H4C(CH3)NNC(S)NH(C6H5)} (M=Al, R=iC4H9 (1); M=Ga, R=iC4H9 (2); M=Al, R=CH2SiMe3 (3); M=Ga, R=CH2SiMe3 (4)) result when 2-acetyl pyridine 4-phenyl-thiosemicarbazone ligand is mixed with trialkyl aluminum or trialkylgallium. These compounds 1-4 are characterized by microanalysis, NMR (1H, 13C) spectroscopy, mass spectra, and singlecrystal X-ray diffraction. X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis reveals that 1 is mononuclear metal compound with coordination number of 5 and N, N, S-coordination mode.

북한강 율문천 소유역에서 수질 변화와 농업활동에 의한 N, P 부하량 (Changes of Stream Water Quality and Loads of N and P from the Agricultural Watershed of the Yulmunchon Tributary of the Buk-Han River Basin)

  • 1997년 5월 20일에서 8월 30일까지 북한강 지천인 율문천의 수위변동과 유속을 측정하고, 수문 자료 수집과 오염부하량을 예측하고 9개 지점에서 수질시료를 시기별로 채취하여 분석하였다. 율문천 소유역은 임야 60%, 주거지와 밭 20%, 논 20%였으며, 농가수 366 가구, 비농가수 322가구, 그리고 인구는 2,622명이었다. 조사기간(1997년 5월 20일~8월 30일)중 유역의 총강수량은 18.000 천$m^3$였고, 하루 최대 유출일은 7월 1일로 129.8 천$m^3$, 최소 유출일은 8월 17일로 0.4 천 $m^3$가 유출되었으며, 전체 유출율은 72% 이었다. 조사 기간중 모든 지점에서 $NO_3-N$ $1.4{\sim}12.6mg\;{\ell}^{-1}$, $NH_4-N$ $0.84{\sim}2.52mg\;{\ell}^{-1}$, T-P는 불검출~$2.20mg\;{\ell}^{-1}$. T-N은 $8.40{\sim}27.30mg\;{\ell}^{-1}$의 범위를 보였다. 이에 따른 T-N 부하량은 최대 $1,512kg\;day^{-1}$, 최소 $5kg\;day^{-1}$, 그리고 T-P의 부하량은 최대 $67.4kg\;day^{-1}$, 최소 $0.3kg\;day^{-1}$로 계산되었다. 강수중 $NO_3-N$의 농도는 $0.7mg\;{\ell}^{-1}$, $NH_4-N$$1.12mg\;{\ell}^{-1}$이었고, 농업지대 유출수는 각각 8.5, $2.0mg\;{\ell}^{-1}$로 강수의 13.5배와 1.8배 수준을 나타냈다. 소유역의 토양유실 예측량은 연간 12,635 Mg 으로 추정되고, 농업부분에서 N부하량은 101,210 kg로 전체 N부하량의 52.3% 였으며, 특히 토양유실과 비료에 의한 오염부하가 42%로 높게 추정되었다.

고령지 시용 부산물 퇴비의 이화학 및 분광학적 특성 (Physicochemical and Spectroscopic Properties of By-product Composts Applied in Gangweon Highland)

  • 이 연구는 강원도 고령지에 투입되고 있는 부산물퇴비의 특성을 평가하기 위하여 현지에서 채취한 부산물퇴비의 화학적, 물리적, 분광학적 특성 및 부숙단계별 특성을 조사하였다. 등록된 부산물퇴비의 평균 유기물함량은 33%, C/N비는 13, NaCl은 0.8%이었고, 수분함량은 53%로 현행비료공정규격과 큰 차이가 없었으며, 중금속함량은 허용기준치 이하로 나타났고, Odor, $NH_3$ 가스, $CO_2$ 가스함량은 미등록 부산물퇴비에 비해 등록된 부산물퇴비가 상대적으로 낮은 값을 보였다. 미등록된 부산물퇴비의 특성 분석 결과, 유기물함량은 13종 중 3종이 25% 미만을 나타냈고, C/N비는 10 이하의 퇴비가 5종, NaCl 함량은 8종이 허용기준치를 초과했다. 수분함량은 8종이 50%이상이었고, 16% 이하가 2종으로 나타났다. 중금속함량은 부산물퇴비 모두 허용기준치 이하였고, Odor와 $NH_3$, $CO_2$ 함량은 등록된 퇴비에 비해 매우 높은 값을 보였다. 분광학적 특성 분석 결과 등록 부산물퇴비는 B와 P형태로 주로 분류되었고, 미등록된 부산물퇴비의 분광학적 특성 분석 결과 Rp와 P형태가 많았다. 홍천과 양평의 돈분부산물을 사용하여 부숙 단계별로 냄새와 $NH_3$ 함량을 조사한 결과 부숙기간이 경과할수록 현저히 감소하였고, 14일이 경과한 후에 부식산의 형태는 fulvic acid에서 나타난 P형태를 제외하고 모두 Rp형태로 분류되었다.

Ensiling Techniques for Shrimp By-Products and their Nutritive Value for Pigs

  • An experiment was performed to evaluate different methods for preserving shrimp by-products and to determine their chemical composition. In the first experiment three ratios of shrimp by-product (SBP) to molasses (6:1, 4:1 and 3:1, wet weight), and to cassava root meal (3:1, 2:1 and 1:1, wet weight of shrimp by-product and air-dry weight of cassava root meal) were investigated. The pH of the SBP ensiled with molasses at a ratio of 3:1, and with cassava root meal at a ratio of 1:1, decreased during the first week to below 4.5 and remained low up to day 56 of ensiling, whereas the pH of the mixtures with higher ratios of SBP remained above 7.0, and the material deteriorated rapidly. The dry matter decreased initially in all treatments but then increased slightly from day 28 in the treatment where shrimp by-product was ensiled with cassava root meal at a ratio of 1:1. The crude protein (CP) and ammonia-N $(NH_3-N)$ contents of the preserved shrimp by-product material ensiled with molasses at a ratio of 3:1 increased significantly one week after ensiling. The CP content then remained constant, while the $NH_3-N$ concentration continued to increase up to 56 days after ensiling. When SBP was ensiled with cassava root meal at a ratio of 1:1 the CP content of the silage increased significantly up to 21 days after ensiling and then decreased back to the original level after 56 days, whereas $NH_3-N$ increased markedly up to 14 days and then remained fairly constant up to 56 days. However, the $NH_3-N$ content was significantly higher when SBP was ensiled with cassava root meal than with molasses. A balance experiment was carried out, arranged as a double Latin-square and including 6 F1 (Large White ${\times}$ Mong Cai) castrates fed randomly one of three diets based on cassava root meal, rice bran, and fish meal (FM) or shrimp by-product ensiled with molasses (SBEMO) or with cassava root meal (SBECA) as the main protein source. Apparent organic matter and CP digestibilities were significantly (p<0.001) higher for the fish meal diet than for the two shrimp by-product diets, although CP digestibility in SBEMO and SBECA was similar (p>0.05). N-retention was significantly higher for the fish meal diet than for the SBEMO diet, which in turn was significantly higher than for the SBECA diet (p<0.01). It can be concluded that shrimp by-product can be preserved by ensiling with molasses at a ratio of 3:1 or with cassava root meal at a ratio of 1:1. Nutrient digestibility and N-retention of diets based on these shrimp by-product silages were lower than for similar diets based on fish meal, probably due to their high chitin content and inferior amino acid balance.

  • In order to study the influence of culture conditions on cell growth and lipid formation by Mucor sp, various carbon and nitrogen sources initial pH and C./N ratio of medium were investigated. Glucose was found to be suitable carbon source in terms of lipid yield and ${\gamma}$-linolenic acid(GLA) content. When NH4Cl and (NH4)2SO4 were used as nitrogen source lipid content was high(19-21%) but GLA content was low(15-17%) On the other hand when NaNO3 and KNO3 were used lipid content was low(about 13%) but GLA content was high(22-23%). The highest production of lipid was obtained at a C/N ratio of 40 using glucose and (NH4)2SO4 as carbon and nitrogen source respectively. it was found that lipid yield was high at pH4.6 Also this fungus did not grow at 35$^{\circ}C$ and lipid yield was highr at 15$^{\circ}C$ than $25^{\circ}C$.
