  • 10GBASE-T is 10Gigabit Ethernet over horizontal structured, twisted-pair copper cabling.(1) It aims to transmit data at a speed of 10Gbps at a l00m distance away, through UTP (unshielded twisted -pair) Cat-5e cable 4-pair. This paper looks over the characteristic of media over Cat 5e, 6, 7, and then suggests how much noise should be removed from it in order to offer the transmission speed of 10Gbps as sending data through each physical medium.

  • Chloramphenicol acetyl CoA transferase (CAT) and angiotensin- converting enzyme inhibitory peptide (ACEI) were fused to C-terminal region of rice ubiquitin to examine the level of transcripts or enzyme activities in yeast. When two chimeric genes under an inducible Gall promoter control were transformed into Saccharomyces cerevisaie, both CAT and ACE inhibitory activities were enhanced by three to four-fold as compared to those containing no ubiquitin gene. However, the levels of transcripts of ubiquitin fused and un fused genes were not significantly different each other. Therefore, it was suggested that the expression of foreign genes was post-transcriptionally enhanced by fusion of plant ubiquitin in heterologous organisms such as yeast.

  • It has been shown that C2-ceramide (C2), short chain ceramide, plays a role in mediating contraction of cat esophageal smooth muscle cells. We examined the effect of newly synthesized ceramide analogues on the C2-ceramide induced contraction in esophageal smooth muscle cells isolated with collagenase. C2-ceramide produced contraction of smooth muscle cells in a dose dependent manner. (omitted)

  • Various aspects of antioxidant activity in vitamin C were evaluated in this study. Relatively high level of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity was detected in vitamin C, but not in non-antioxidative vitamin, vitamin B1. Vitamin C also reduced the production of lipid peroxidation in Chinese hamster lung fibroblast (V79-4) cells with $IC_{50}$ value of $4{\mu}g/ml$. Vitamin B1 showed comparable reduction in lipid peroxidation products ($IC_{50}$ value was about $10{\mu}g/ml$). It was shown that vitamin C also dose-dependently enhanced the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) in V79-4 cells, and these effects were not observed in vitamin Bl-treated cells. Our data suggest that well-known antioxidant vitamin C involved in direct activation of SOD, CAT and GPX.

  • Caroli syndrome (CS) is characterized by multiple intrahepatic biliary cysts which are continuous with the biliary tract. First case is a 1-year-old, Munchkin cat that presented with icterus. This patient was diagnosed with CS based on imaging and histopathology. With surgery and supportive care, the patient has been well managed. Second case is a 1-year-old, mixed breed dog that presented with anorexia and abdominal distention. This patient was suspected to have CS based on ultrasonography, and died after 7 days. Although unusual, CS could be considered as a differential diagnosis for young animals with hepatic cysts.
