  • Objective : This study aims to investigate core herbs and formulas in Internal Medicine on the Liver system (IML) to enhance the efficiency of teaching IML, Herbalogy, and Formula Science, as well as to increase the integration of these courses. Methods : The study employed the frequency concept, commonly utilized in previous studies, alongside network analysis. Results : This study identified frequently used herbs, herbs with high centrality, frequently combined herbs, and core formulas. The herb with the highest frequency was 'Angelicae Gigantis Radix', while the herb with the highest centrality was 'Citri Unshius Pericarpium', and the most frequent herb combination was 'Zingiberis Rhizoma - Citri Unshius Pericarpium'. The network analysis results revealed a total of 5 herbal combination communities. Conclusion : In this study, we identified core herbs using traditional frequency analysis methods. Additionally, to complement traditional analysis methods, we discovered core herbal combinations, and fundamental herbal prescriptions through network analysis. The results of this study can be utilized as foundational data to enhance the efficiency of education in Internal Medicine on the Liver system (IML), Herbology, and Formula Science courses, as well as to improve coherence and consistency between foundational and clinical subjects.

Methods : Prescriptions that include both Coptidis Rhizoma and Evodiae Fructus have been selected with the use of programs offered by http://www.koreantk.com, http://youl.net/data . This study compared and analyzed the main effects of the selected prescriptions. Results : Prescriptions that work on upper digestive system tend to have Coptidis Rhizoma to Evodiae Fructus ratio of 2:1~10:1, and Prescriptions that work on lower digestive system tend to have ratio of 1:1. When Coptidis Rhizoma takes up 50% or more of the total dose of the prescriptions, these prescriptions tend to have major effect on the upper digestive system, and when it takes less than 50%, these tend to have major effect on the lower digestive system on the contrary. Conclusions : The prescriptions based on Coptidis Rhizoma-Evodiae Fructus Pair have a tendency to treat digestive problems caused by mass of fever in Liver-system. On this basis, further studies are expected to unveil the effectiveness of these prescriptions on adult diseases.

  • Objectives : This study was intended to understand characteristics of symptoms, oriental medicine prescription and laboratory test results according to elapsed time of stroke. Methods : Through the medical records of 205 stroke inpatients in the oriental medical hospital in the year 2010, we investigated manifested symptoms, administered oriental medicine prescription and clinical pathological examination results. Collected items were classified to depend on stroke types, cerebral infarction and hemorrhage. We analyzed association between manifested symptoms, the oriental medicine prescription, and laboratory test results of stroke patients and elapsed time. Chi-square tests were performed to determine the significance level of association. Results : All symptoms, prescriptions and laboratory test results in cerebral infarction patients were associated with elapsed time. Especially, symptoms, prescriptions and pathological examination results showed very high statistical significance with elapsed time (a symptom; chi-square(df)=164.3(22), p<0.001, prescription; chi-square(df)=93.5(22), p<0.001, and pathological examination results; chi-square(df)=164.3(22), p<0.0004). But in the case of cerebral hemorrhage, there was not statistical significance. Conclusions : The elapsed time of stroke may be an essential requisite in catching symptoms and prescribing for stroke patients in oriental medical treatment.
