An Analysis of Intensity Attenuation Characteristics by Physics-based Strong Ground-Motion Simulation (물리적 지진모델링 기반 강지진동 모사를 통한 진도 감쇠 특성 분석)

  • In this study, we analyzed the intensity attenuation for M 6.0, 6.5, and 7.0 earthquakes using the broadband strong ground motion simulation platform based on the physical seismic modeling developed by the US Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC). The location of the earthquake was assumed to be near the epicenter of the 2016 M 5.8 Gyeongju earthquake, but two of the representative US regional models provided by the SCEC strong ground motion simulation platform were used for the propagation model. One is the Central and Eastern United States (CEUS) model representing the intraplate region, and the other is the LA Basin model representing the interplate region. Five modeling methodologies are presented in the version 16.5 of the simulation platform, and Song and Exsim models were used in this study. In the analysis, we found that different intensity attenuation patterns can be observed with the same magnitude of earthquakes, especially depending on the region (CEUS vs LA Basin). Given the same magnitude and distance, the instrumental intensity in the CEUS region (intraplate) could be larger by a unit of 2 than that in the LA Basin region (interplate). Given the difference of intensity attenuation patterns observed in the study, it is important to know the regional intensity attenuation characteristics to understand the accurate level of seismic hazard imposed in the Korean Peninsula. This study also shows the level of the uncertainty of intensity attenuation if region specific attenuation characteristics are not considered.

Older Drivers' Characteristics and Optimal Number of Guide Names on Road Signs (도로표지에 대한 고령운전자의 인간공학적 특성과 적정 안내지명 개수에 대한 연구)

  • Due to the lack of judgement in an information processing on road sign, older drivers usually are having a hard time driving than young group. Furthermore, according to increasing in aging population, older drivers in Korea have been growing much faster. That means research for older drivers' characteristics and the number of guide name for road sign should be needed. In accordance with suggestions, this study was carried out the number of guide names for road sign with a variety of ages from the twenties to the seventies. For the sake of this study, statistical verification was conducted to confirm a change of speed, a reading time and a misreading rate with Driving Simulator and Electrooculogram tool. As the results of study, change of speed in the age range has shown that the higher the proportion of age, the lower the rate of velocity. Also reading time in the age range with regression analysis found that the higher the proportion of age, the higher the rate of reading time by 0.106sec. Finally, a binary logistic model was used to find the main factors. As the results, 4 number of guide names for road sign have been the best of them for older driver. The result of this study verified the importance of ideal guide numbers on road sign for older driver and proved itself to be an effective method to determine the road safety for the road signs.

황비창천명 삼족오문(三足烏紋) 고려 동경에 새겨진 배의 국적

  • 2017년 5월 필자는 황비창천명 항해도문 고려 동경에 새겨진 배가 기존에 알려진 것과 달리 고려의 배가 아닐 가능성이 있음을 입증하였다. 황비창천명 항해도문 고려 동경의 원 도안은 북송대에 유래하여 금대에 크게 유행한 뒤 무역을 통해 고려에 유입되어 크게 유행하였다. 따라서 우리나라에서 출토된 황비창천명 항해도문 고려 동경은 중국에서 유래한 원도안을 모방하여 재주조, 변형, 재창조한 것이므로 뒷면에 새겨진 배는 고려의 배라기 보다는 중국의 배라고 보아야 한다는 것이다. 그러나 국립중앙박물관과 국립대구박물관에 소장된 삼족오문 고려 동경(덕수 4927; 덕3194)에 새겨진 배는 평면형 저판 및 선수미, 중첩된 삼판, 최상부 삼판에 보이는 가룡목의 흔적 등 여러 면에서 원양항해용 평저선형 고려선박으로 볼 수 있다. 흥미로운 사실은 황비창천명 항해도문 동경이 기원지인 중국에 비해 고려에서 널리 모방, 변형, 재창조되어 활발하게 주조 및 유통되었다는 점이다. 유리판(于力凡)의 견해를 받아들인다면, 황비창천명 항해도문 동경은 북송의 휘종(徽宗)(재위 1100-1125) 황제의 성덕(聖德)을 찬양(讚揚)할 목적으로 주조되었다. 그러나 이배근의 견해를 원용하면, 고려에서는 항해도문안을 태조 왕건의 조부인 작제건(作帝建)의 설화로 해석하여 태조 왕건을 룡손(龍孫)으로 지체를 높이기 위한 상징물로 활용했을 개연성이 있다. 이것이 황비창천명 항해도문 동경이, 북송과 금을 통해 유입되었음에도 불구하고, 고려에서 이를 모방 및 변형하고 독창적으로 재창조하여 널리 유통되게 된 사회문화적 배경이 되었을 수 있다. 이는 차후의 연구를 통해 밝혀내야 할 과제다.

  • A mycological survey was carried out with the soil samples collected in Korea from Sptember, 1978 to December, 1979. Special attention was paid fungus genus Penicillum. One hundred twenty three isolates, as a result, were obtained from the Korean soils. Among these, sixteen species were iedentified and described in this paper. Almost all of the fungi reported here are new to Korea. One of them is an asomycete cleisothecia of $120~50\mu$ in diameter. Ascospores of this fungus were found lenticular with an equatorial furrow as indicated in the previous descriptions.

First Record of Hypsagonus corniger (Agonidae) from Korea (한국산 뿔줄고기속 (날개줄고기과) 어류 1미기록종, Hypsagonus corniger)

  • A single specimen of the family Agonidae was collected from the coastal waters of the East Sea, Korea. It was identified as Hypsagonus corniger Taranetz by having the first dorsal fin with seven spines, long supraoccipital spine, sharp spines of body plate, no process on the supralateral bony plates, the broader distance between the first and the second dorsal fins than base of the second dorsal fin, and longer second spine of the first dorsal fin than the first spine. A key to the genus Hypsagonus from Korea is provided. We propose a new Korean name, "Ga-si-jul-go-gi" for the species.

English Writing Education based on Internet Tools and Software (인터넷 도구와 소프트웨어 활용 쓰기 학습 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to explore how effectively can learners improve their written skills in English language classrooms with the application of internet tools and software. First, the study compares and analyzes existing research on English writing and describes research background. Second, the study describes how internet tools can be used effectively in the English writing classrooms. For example, learners pick up vocabulary on the internet bulletin board and create sentences using the vocabulary. Third, the study analyzed changes in learners' in-class attitudes towards software and internet tools using comparative measures of performance. Unlike with offline instrumented classes, the in-class application of diverse software and internet tools such as websites and IRC (Internet Relay Chat) had a major impact on the improvement of learners' writing skills.

Boundary Layer Flow Under a Sluice Gate (수직수문하의 경계층흐름)

  • The boundary layer flow under a sluice gate is numerically solved by the random vortex sheet method combined with the vortex-in-cell method in a boundary-fitted coordinate system. The numerical solution shows that the boundary layer developed along the vertical sluice gate wall is the primary cause for the discrepancy in the contraction ratio between the laboratory experiments and inviscid theory; the bottom boundary layer plays much a smaller role in the discrepancy. By dimensional analysis it is concluded that the discrepancy is inversely proportional to the 3/4th power of the gate opening, as analyzed by Benjamin(1956). The results of the numerical simulation and dimensional analysis show a good agreement with experimental results obtained by Benjamin(1956).

  • Objectives The purpose of this research is to study the Psychological Characteristics of Korean Medical Students focusing on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 and the Beck Depression Inventory.Methods The survey was conducted on 101 Korean Medicine Students to investigate psychological characteristics focusing on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 and the Beck Depression Inventory.Results 29.7% of students scored more than 10 points in the Beck Depression Inventory. Students with depression according to the Beck Depression Inventory showed the higher scores in the Pd, Si, RC4, WRK, FAM, Mt and MDS scales as compared to the students without depression tendencies (p<.05). Students with depression according to the Beck Depression Inventory showed the higher scores in the Pt, RC7, ANX, A and PK scales as compared to the students without depressive tendencies (p<.05).Conclusions Students with depressive tendencies seem to have more difficulty adjusting socially compared to students without depressive tendencies. In addition, students with depressive tendencies will likely have other psychological problems compared to the students without depressive tendencies.

An Evaluation of the Validity and Reliability of the Face Mask Use Scale's Korean Version among Community-Dwelling Adults (한국어판 마스크 착용 이행 측정 도구의 신뢰도와 타당도 평가: 지역사회 거주 일반 성인을 대상으로)

  • Purpose: This study evaluated the validity and reliability of the Korean version of the Face Mask Use Scale (K-FMUS) among community-dwelling adults. Methods: The participants of the study were community-dwelling adults in Korea using face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic. The English FMUS was translated into Korean using forward and backward translation procedures. The construct validity and reliability of the K-FMUS were evaluated using the exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses and the internal consistency reliability test. Results: The K-FMUS comprised 6 items divided into 2 factors. The variance of the factors was approximately 79.1%, which suggested that the scale indicated the effectiveness of face mask usage. The two factors were labeled as face mask use in society (4 items) and face mask use at home (2 items). Cronbach's α value for the overall scale was .88. Conclusion: The K-FMUS is a valid and reliable scale that can be used to measure face mask usage among community-dwelling adults in Korea during the COVID-19 pandemic.
