본고는 한국어 영형 대명사의 적절한 해석을 위해 개념적으로 전혀 새로운 이론을 제안한다. 일련의 다양한 제약들이 서로 연관되어 있음을 보인 후, 그러한 규칙의 다양성을 적절히 포착하기 위해 적절성 이론 (Optimality Theory)을 도입할 것을 제안하고, 그 토대 위에 다양한 제약들을 형식화한 후, 그 규칙들의 위계관계를 설정한다. 가장 우선순위를 갖는 제약으로 인접 요소간 어휘의미자질들이 일치해야 한다는 어휘의미제약(*Feature Mismatch)과 통사적 결속규칙을 의미론적으로 재해석한 결속원리 B(Principle B)를 선정한다. 그 다음 순위를 갖는 제약으로, 가능한 한 선행명사를 지칭하도록 요구하는 대용존중제약(DOAP: Don't Overlook Anaphoric Possibilities)과, 센터링 이론의 전이방식 개념을 도입하여 정의한 계속선호제약 (CONTINUE)을 제안한다

This paper aims at investigating what semantic interpretation the occurrence of stative and non-statve predicates in the complement clauses of the prepositional attitude verbs make a contribution to, as illustrated in (la-b) and (2a-b). (1) a, John believed that Mary was tired (Ambiguous), b. John believed that Mary walked to school. (2) a. John believes that Mary was sick, b. John believes that Mary is sick.

This paper is a report on part of the results of a research project entitled "Research and Model Development for a Multi-Lingual Lexical Database". It Is a six-year project in which we aim to construct a model of a multilingual lexical database of Korean, Chinese, Japanese, and English. Now we have finished the first two-year stage of the project In this paper, we present the goal of the project, the construction model of items in the lexical database, and the possible (semi-)automatic methods of acquisition of lexical information. As an appendix, we present some sample items of the database as an i1lustration.

The aim of this study is to construct a formal semantic representation of the korean adverbial phrase(AdvP) composed of NP of t imp and of the adverbial particle OE. This AdvP establishes various relations between the time indicated by NP and the time of the event described by the sentence, depending on the type of th first and the aspectual property of the second. To represent formally the semantic functions of this AdvP, we used lambda-calculus and unification grammar in the way proposed by Renaud(1996).

Comparing the uses of '-canh-' with the ones of '-ci,'this study suggests that different modal interpretat ions by '-canh-' and '-ci' is based on the interpersonal relationship between speaker and interlocutor. While noting that '-canh-' and '-ci' are the modal indicators denoting degrees of speaker commitment, for making clear the illocutionary force of utterances, it is observed and explained that what the speaker is committed respectively by using '-canh-' and '-ci' is highly sensitive to the relativity of the known/unknown status of the informal ion introduced into discourse contexts .

There have been some notes on the functional unity of rules or conspiracy in Linguistics. In this paper, I show that so-called 'elsewhere condition', first mentioned in phonology, is observed not only in phonology, but also in morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. And I argue that it is a kind of functional unity of rules or conspiracy in cross-component of linguistic theories. How to handle this in the macro-scopic view of linguist ice is another major issue in further research.

본 논문에서는 주제와 초점이 한가지 기준에 의해 분류될 수 있는 것을 보이고자 한다. 이를 위해서 Rooth의 대안 의미론의 요점인 대안 집합이 어떤 방식으로 결정되고 그 대안 집합의 크기가 얼마가 되느냐에 따라서 여러 가지 주제와 초점이 분류되었다 또한 정보초점에 나타나는 초점의 한정성은 초점자체의 본성이라기보다는 이전 발화의 전제에 의한 상호작용의 결과라는 것을 보였고, 대조 초점과 대조주제의 구분을 위하여 대화함축이 일어나는지 여부를 기준으로 이 두 개념을 구분하려고 하였다.

서수 한정사의 수식을 받는 명사구는 "정확히"의 의미와 "적어도"의 의미를 둘 다 가질 수 있다. Horn(1972)과 Kadmon(1985, 1987, 2001)은 "적어도"의 의미를 의미론적 의미로, "정확히"의 의미를 화용적 의미로 분석하고, Kamp는 그 반대 입장을 취한다. 그러나 서수 한정사의 의미를 그 의미 구조와 무관하게 일률적으로 분석하는 이런 접근 방식은 양쪽 중 어떤 입장을 취하든 다음의 두 사실을 설명할 수 없다 (i) 서술구에 쓰인 서수 한정사는 항상 "정확히"의 의미만을 갖는다. (ii) 초점을 받는 서수 한정사도 항상 "정확히"의 의미만을 갖는다. 이 연구는 초점 구문에 대한 논리-의미적 분석 방법에 근거하여 서수 한정사의 중의성의 의미를 설명한다. 구체적으로, 서수 한정사는 통사적 논항에 나타나든 통사적 서술구에 나타나든 상관없이 의미적으로 동일성의 서술구에 나타나면 항상 "정확히"의 의미만을 갖게 되고 의미적 주부에 나타나면 "적어도"의 의미를 갖게 된다는 사실을 보인다.
