Abstract

The purpose of the study was to investigate social support as a mediator in the relationship between social activity and successful aging among older adults. For this purpose, the non-ramdom purposive sampling and snowball sampling procedure were used to select the older adults over 65 years old who registered at the Senior Welfare Center in Daegu and Kyungpook and data were collected from 254 elderly. SPSS and PROCESS Macro Program were utilized to analyze the collected data. Findings of this study showed that participation in social activity, social support and successful aging were positively related among older adults, and those who participate in social activity actively and perceive higher level of social support seemed to experience higher level of successful aging. Moreover, the participation in social activity and social support were statistically significant factors in explaining the variance of successful aging, and social support was a statistically significant mediator in the effect of participation in social activity on the successful aging among older adults. Finally, based on the results of this study, the practical implication for the improving successful aging among older adults and the further research were recommended.
