Two Cases of Korean Medicine Treatment for Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss: Focusing on Delayed Hearing Improvement

Abstract

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report two cases of patients with sudden sensorineural hearing loss who showed delayed hearing improvement with Korean medicine treatments. Methods : This study was conducted with 6 weeks after onset sudden sensorineural hearing loss patients who treated in ophthalmology, otolaryngology & dermatology clinic of Korean medical Hospital. The patients were treated with Korean medicine including acupuncture, electroacupuncture and moxibustion. We evaluated the patient's improvement before and after treatment using the pure tone audiometry and patient's subjective symptoms. Results : The patient's pure tone audiometry and symptoms were improved after treatment. Conclusions : It is considered that Korean medicine could be applied to the initial treatment and salvage treatment of sudden sensorineural hearing loss.
